[Q]Selling or Unlocking bootloader - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hey guys, so I'm a bit disappointed with my Xperia U's speed and small screen and the enormous RAM eating (friends Galaxy Y has more free than mine).
I have few questions I want an answer.
1. Is there any phone with big screen (4 inch +), dual-core processor with pretty good development here in XDA which I can afford for ~250$ (max 300$)
2. Is selling Xperia U for 180$ a reasonable price? I used it for 3 months, not a single scratch, looks perfectly new + some random stuff added that I don't need, like original Sony headphones (not the ones that come with phone).
3. Does unlocking bootloader and having a custom kernel have big impact on performance? Like could I play games like Real Racing 3 without any lagging on custom kernel? Because on locked bootloader stock kernel and custom ROM I'm lagging a lot.
4. Will we have jelly bean ports? I've been said multiple times that we're getting a port after releasing to P or Go? So it will be most likely only Unlocked Bootloader right?
5. What would you do if I were me? Sell and buy something else or unlock the bootloader?
~Thanks

I would wait definitely as jb for p is out today
Secondly unlocking bootloader will let u use custom kernels much btr than stock ones
So give this a try first

It's about when selling I can sell with warranty from the internet shop I bought. If I unlock I have hardware, but not software warranty.

Meh, I'm going to stick with Xperia U, actually, I don't need top of the line with big screen as I checked myself, I use my phone A LOT with one hand, and with 4 incher it's pretty hard. I'm going to unlock the bootloader on holidays.

Cm10 will bring a new life to our xu

Okay, thanks.

[Q] Currently unlockable bootloaders

For us with currently unlockable bootloaders (branded phones), will removing the sim-lock give us the option to unlock the bootloader?
No
That was a definitive answer. Strange, cause I know people with unlockable bootloaders in their Arcs and Rays have managed to unlock them.

I can confirm, O2 UK unlock code does not alter the bootloader status
Slightly worried about getting the phone from Rogers here. Hopefully the Sony store will have a working unit so I can enter the command into the dialer to see if I can easily unlock it or not.
Daymmm, this is hard to hear lol...

Currently there is no way to root without unlocking the bootloader, it will probably come at some point, but not now .
There is no drawback to unlocking your bootloader though, as they will still probably accept your device for warranty, unless you fry your phone with overclocking and such.
But yea, branded phones cant be unlocked at this moment, or well, they haven't figured it out yet. So if you are branded you can't even unlock your bootloader...yet . Give it time, everything will be figured out in time .

I am under the impression that selling it in the Canadian Sony store means it will not be branded for any carrier, since they'll be offering the phone unlocked. Probably even if they offer it on contract with a carrier like Rogers, it would still be unlocked, but just subsidized with your contract plan.
edit: They did say that the phone is exclusively with the Sony Store in Canada, so you can't get it straight from Rogers anyways, so no worries!
If there is brand in rogers, I am pretty sure they will lock the bootloader just like they did in xperia arc

Bought mine from the sony store locked to rogers. I can confirm that the bootloader are in fact locked. Bought mine at launch early tuesday morning.(12th)
They currently only sell XpS's locked to rogers. They unfortunately don't sell the unbranded version(/unlocked). They were also surprised by this fact apparently.
BTW the rogers bloatware that came with the device is annoying as hell. If you're going to buy on frim the Sony store in canada. Debranding would be the first thing I would suggest to do. Seeing as rooting or custom roming is out of the question.

Have to admit that i'm a little disappointed i got my phone as soon as it was released on my neywork.
That was before the information came to light, that branded fw's have their bootloaders locked.
Had i known that BEFORE i took the plunge, i would have upgraded via a third party mobile phone shop.
I am even more disappointed to see custom roms and tweaks coming out, only to find myself unable to go anywhere near them. Grrrr!
I have de-branded my Xps but i still have the bloat-crap on it. Which is now filling the ten whole spaces in my main menu.
I have been checking on here everyday hoping for a root solution and also on the omnius and setool sites but still i am without a solution :-( and my biggest concern of all is...
As most the devs and rom chefs have unlocked bootloaders, that means hardly anyone (if anyone) will be working on a solution. Double :-(

I hear you bro
Don't worry, it will come
I have faith in this community that something will be figured out. A few weeks ago it wasn't even possible to flash custom kernels and such, and they managed to figure it out. Now that things are flowing nicely, the rom developers have started working on making things again, and maybe there's more things being looked into in terms of rooting.
I've been here since my X1 and the community hasn't let me down yet, I'm confident they will find a way to get a root, and probably (given the speed even a tester CM9 came out) before ICS.
I guess you might have wait for those paid software like setool .... It will be like the same case like xperia arc. Rogers or any branded phone do not allow bootloader unlock.

My XS was locked to Orange UK 10 minutes back. Bootloader unlockable - No.
Got the code from Orange and phone unlocked to any network now.
Imagine my surprise when I saw this: Bootloader unlockable - Yes
Talk about double bonus
Too bad the phone is going to Sony on Monday for the yellow screen issue.

Interesting... I'm a bit skeptical though...

Yeah, I can't take the plunge and use this phone as my daily driver. Not with Timescape (or whatever you call the Sony UI). I want to be able to use AOSP apps. What I hate is when the UI elements creep over when you're using an app (stuff like checkboxes) and it just makes the overall experience feel inconsistant.
I have since buying the phone debranded it and flashed the singpore rom, and it does a good job at eliminating bloatware, but I want to go in deeper and install CM9 whenever that's ready.
The phone does have what looks like the test point connections, I wanted to mess around with them but I didn't have the proper screws to remove the battery cover. Anyone know what the size of the screws are so I can get a screwdriver that fits?

If you could have done the test point process, I'm sure it would already be posted here. It's quite possible there will be some type of testpoint exploit in the future.. But as of now not the case. I wouldnt suggest messing around inside your phone unless your ready to void your warrenty and at least somewhat know what your doing.
Who knows you could be some secret dev-ninja-genius. ...but then again your asking about screwdriver sizes instead of just eyeballing it like most people would do, so I very much doubt that bro.
Just my 2 cents.

I know you were just trying to be mindfull of what happens to my phone and stuff, but if I "eyeballed" the size what good would it do if I don't have a small enough bit to fit the screw? I was able to remove the frearson screws but am missing the torx.
A test point method is still possible (maybe) but the reason that there are no posts about it is that the software used (Omnius, SEtools, etc) is not yet compatible with the XS.
Im toooo interested too, my phone has bootloader blocked for my phone company, so I cant get root or do anything
Im waiting, I hope too much they find a solution soon !

Bootloader unlock not allowed

I have a Neo V which I bought specifically because I thought I would be able to unlock the bootloader and install CM9 but I have gone to unlock the bootloader and it says: "bootloader unlock allowed: no".

Read first post, he say his phone is locked, sim-locked.
There's nothing dodgy about omnius either it works perfectly, I did mine with it at the last freebie session at easter.
With se tool there is someone remotely connected to help you through.
With omnius your on your own, but it shows you what to do, also read the sticky on unlocking by test point, because both methods require test point.
If you want it unlocked now, pay or just wait am sure there'll be other free periods

I thought the bootloader would be unlockable when I bought it.
The ROM has all kinds of junk I don't want loaded into it, there is a lack of options (maybe I have been spoilt by CyanogenMod) and it does silly things like not playing alarms over speakers when earphones are plugged in and playing notifications over speakers when earphones are plugged in.
Thanks del1701 I will probably get in contact with him.

Just for your information, only small number of countries have law that tele operaters NEED to sim-unlock your phone. I'm not going into discussion if that is good law or not.
Next time try thinking a bit before you start accusing someone(for stealing or something else)!
Most contracts add up to the cost of the phone anyway, so it's hardly stealing, like the firms would do it if it wasn't still profitable.

Im sorry but you lost me at "sim-unlocked".
If you read the first post, the OP intentionally wanted to buy an unlockable bootloader phone. Instead, he acquired it through network providers (i assume cheaper than stores). He then complains here that it can't be unlocked. If thats what he wanted in the first place, then why doesnt he purchase one straight from the store, which is bootloader unlockable???
The reason network providers offer those phones cheap is because the client and provider enter into an exclusivity contract, which in return the client uses their services for a certain time frame. If or UNTIL that timeframe has lapsed, then technically the phone is still owned by the network. The simlocking and bootloader locking is merely just an insurance on their part.
Its like "buying" a car but paying in installment... If you chopped it up for parts before settling the amount in FULL, it is in most countries, called STEALING...because its not yours YET to begin with.
Sent from my MT11i using Tapatalk
Can't see mention of using provider for price.
I think he meant he picked this phone knowing it was unlockable, didn't think/know about network subsidy locks.

Don't know about screen because never actually compared mine to other phone, but I guess its just OK.
But one thing for sure, no other phone can beat lww sound quality, with its dual stereo speaker its just awesome. Even the big boys nexus got crap slower sound.

It depends on from where you buy the phone. When my mother bought LWW, it was not simlocked and could be unlocked. It dosen't have bravia engine, but you can easily flash a rom to get that feature and no it does not effect the quality much. The phone has got one of the best sound quality.
The colour choice depends on you, but white can easily get dirty.
Ooh yeah. I will buy black. Well thanks for the advices guys. If someone have any other opinion please write
I'm an XMP user and I can say that I wouldn't trade it for anything with the screen of similar size. I mean, it is quite comfortable to type with an on-screen keyboard when you're using Xperia keyboard in phonepad mode OR if you install Swiftkey, but sometimes I turn the rage mode on because of those tiny buttons. and then the hw keyboard saves the day. but if you think of it as a bloody nuisance and you don't use it AT ALL, then fair enough, go for it

Some informations I require

Hey guys I'm about to buy a new LG Optimus L9 P760 phone in the next few days and I need some feedback opinions about it. I'm asking especially those who owned it or owns it. Basically the phone has only 4GB internal memory but you can add a microSD card. From what I've heard you cannot move applications on the SD Card which means your phone will be able to handle only about 2.30 GB of its 4 GB capacity. So that's a worry for me because I cannot install the things I want within only 2.3 GB. So my #1 question is if there's any possibility to move the applications in SD Card without rooting, because that's the only way you can move them.
#2 question: Can a LG Optimus L9 P760 run the newest games, like Asphalt 7, NFS MW, PES 2013 or FIFA 2013 without lag?
#3 question: Is the 5MP camera good enough to take clear pictures? Because I'm about to use it for taking some pictures here and there. I had a Xperia X10 mini phone and its camera was good enough for me, I liked the pictures made by them.
Thanks.
Hi?
You can move apps to SD after rooting.
You can probably run all those games after rooting and overclocking.
The camera is descent. Other phones take better pictures.

Hey,
I'm about to buy LG Optimus L9 tomorrow but I need some question answered.
1. Can you move apps to SD card without rooting? Like updating to a newer Android OS?
2. If I root, does it affect my cellphone warranty?
3. If I try to root, is there any chance of destroying my phone's software and make it useless?
1. Can you move apps to SD card without rooting? Like updating to a newer Android OS?
I believe you can do this with the latest firmware update(Jelly Bean).
2. If I root, does it affect my cellphone warranty?
Nope.
3. If I try to root, is there any chance of destroying my phone's software and make it useless?
Nope. We can only soft-brick the device. No way to hard-brick it.
Hey,
Thanks for the time you've spent answering my questions. I have one more question: what's soft-brick and what's hard-brick and what's the difference between them?
I'm looking forward into buying the phone tomorrow, it looks like a good piece of business given the price proportional to the specs the phone has.
How do you rate on a 1 up to 10 scale rate your LG Optimus L9 performance?
// Apparently the rooting will invalidate the warranty of the phone.

You are welcome.
Soft-brick is recoverable by us.
Hard-brick is only recoverable by LG.
I rate this device as a 6. That is only because I am picky and the P769 model has so many software issues right now. But with CM 10.1 it is a little better. Battery life is what I like the most.
If you un-root the device before sending in for any kind of service the warranty will be honored.
If you send it in rooted LG will decide if they want to honor the warranty.
Well I'm yet not decided what to buy, I've got to choose between LG L9 and Xperia Arc S.
Oh and by the way, in what case you risk to hardbrick the phone?

I used both phones and between them much better is LG for me. In arc s just camera is better. Performance is bad and with only few apps and no games I felt that my phone is slow. Next thing arc s doesn`t have official jelly bean update and to unlocking bootloader may be not possible (deppends when phone was produced). Imo lg is much better choice.
well hardbricking lg p760 is impoosible. in theory you can hardbrick your phone when you unlock bootloader and try to install custom ROM, but in lg p760 case you can only softbrick your phone as people here say so no worries here.

I'm not sure about moving apps to sd without root, but in android development thread there people write guides how to make it work so problems can happen so root may be necessary. remember that unlocking bootloader you lose warranty not rooting (but still you can try send your device to lg in case something will be wrong with your device after unlocking bootloader. Sometimes they don"t care about it).

As far as I know rooting with locked bootloader don't influence warranty in any way. Just root lg using method for locked bootloader but even if i'm wrong unrooting is quiet easy and lg will honour warranty for sure.

Hey guys, is there any way to make the phone play music louder? I believe the standard power is not enough for me.

After you will get root access which will allow you to install custom audio modifiers which will blow you ears. You may get twice as loud sound if you set it properly. Also amazing sounds effects as dynamic bass. Many settings for various headphones, earphones. It's called viper4android. I'm on my phone right now so I'm lazy and I won't search for it. I may give you link tomorrow if you will decide to root also I prefer to get Cwm also for backup. Dunno how to get cwm with locked bootloader but if you will unlock bt im open for help.

Haha, I'm totally a newbie in rooting thing, so I may need to spend some time researching a few things here and there.
Hey guys it's me again,
I'm writing this on my phone as I bought it for a few weeks already and I like the phone.
Now I have a few questions I've encountered during usage of this phone:
#1 - I usually play a game on the phone and use the Internet so it barely stays on stand-by. Basically the battery life goes between 6 to 13 hours. Is it right to stay this time?
#2 - So when I was charging the phone, turned off as the battery was empty, it usually showed me the battery icon and a yellow triangle with a rounded arrow rotating. Until today when in the same situation, it was only the battery icon without triangle. What does it mean?
#3 - Sometimes when I press the lock screen button it takes a caption of the screen and I have to press the menu button while I'm on the main screen to make it lock again. Why is that happening?

[Q] Considering on purchasing the Z Ultra GPE have a few questions

*How does the phone hold up on day to day usage
*any issues out of the box
*ota 5.0 lollipop is now realeased for the phone,so how is that treating the device
Im most likely gonna not root it and unlock bootloader but just to get it out of the way..
**camera issue?**
Whats the deal with the camera messing up?
If you root and unlock will that already screw up the camera?
How about if your complete stock 5.0 and then deciede to root and unlock
Will that mess it up as well?
Sorry for the newb questions im gonna be new to the z ultra
Thanks in advance

Good, Had mine for over a year, dropped it out of the truck a couple of times and still good as gold. Treat it as 2 1mm thick sheets of glass on an 7mm aluminium frame.

Only the camera in poor light - just get a good manual camera and it is ok

LP is only out for the GPe version. The original Sony will get it some time in the new year

Loss of auto focus only effects the GPe version, the Sony just has startup time issues on a locked BL, and there is a work around for that

1 more question..hopefully someone using the google play edition can answer. Im most likely gonna be using it on tmobile does the gpe support tmobile LTE bands? Or would i just be getting h/h+ connection?
I have the GPe and I'm on TMo. I do get LTE speeds, and you will see the LTE symbol when it's available.

A few issues:
1. Lots of random reboots (so save your work often)
2. 5.0 lollipop is junk. Buggy as heck and unusable. Stick to 4.4.x if at all possible.
Camera: NO issues, but bear in mind its only 8MP without flash. Not the best camera available but "does the job".
Root / Unlock: I highly do not recommend it unless you absolutely NEED to root. Rooting tends to destabilize Android (which is already buggy by nature)
Other: The GPE is a C6806 which supports all GSM LTE bands in the U.S. You should expect to see LTE on either AT&T or T-mobile just fine. I use T-Mobile and have LTE
Other than that: Awesome device. Best one on the market in my opinion, although the Huawei Mediapad X1 is really tempting me....
