unlocked sgs2 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

my buddy has a sim unlocked ATT samsung galaxy s2 on tmobile. he wants me to root it and change his software, will this remove his sim unlock? and if so is there anything i can flash to redo it or make it permanent?

Some Jellybean firmware will remove the unlock, but you can use GalaxSim Unlock to unlock it. Download the free version from the developer's xda thread, or download from the play store and pay a small fee to unlock.

[Q] Help

I got a galaxy note that i bought for cheap but its locked to rogers. Is it possible to make it work on Mobalicity and if it is how can i go about doing it?
Buy an unlock code from eBay and network unlock it.
Root it then flash a stock-ish rom free of Rogers bloatware.
Input correct APN values.

Unlocking a new T-Mobile P769

If I were to buy a new T-Mobile P769, how would I go about unlocking it to allow different carriers?
Is this correct?
1. Buy Phone
2. Buy T-mobile Pre-paid sim
3. Wait for OTA JB update
4. Unlock bootloader using methods in this forum
Does that sound about right, or would I need to get an unlock code from E-bay?

Click to collapse
1-4 would not help with carrier unlocking your device. Refer to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252254

[Q] Unlocking Galaxy S3 (4.3, rooted)

Hi all
looking to unlock my galaxy s3 which is rooted on a custom rom on firmware 4.3
i understand its very difficult to unlock this phone for free on 4.3 and it looks like a paid option may be my only choice.. however when using free applications to unlock my phone they all cant read the current sim lock status which is slightly worrying. (i used vodoo, galaxasim)
to confirm i checked by using another carrier sim into the phone and it did indeed ask for a sim unlock code, so im not sure why none of these applications can detect the sim lock status
so im looking to purchase an unlock code and i hope it will work! can anyone recommend any options for me or is a paid unlock code the only solution

Unlock To use AT&T sim?

Have a T-Mobile S5. Switching to ATT. Need to unlock need a unlock code. Can I flash a rom that unlocks the phone? Or like kernel?
Just call T-Mobile and have them give you an unlock code. They will do it if your account is in good standing or you have paid off the device.

Rooted & unlocked question

I'm selling my Sprint Note 3 that I had rooted before the lollipop upgrade. Since then I put a lollipop rom on it.
Two stupid noobie questions that I couldn't find answers to when I searched ..
1. Since I'm rooted am I also unlocked ... can he use an att Sim card and use it on att?
2. Do I need a specific rom that would make this possible ... or is there a way to test it to prove to him that it works?
Thanks for the answers.
Just FYI... There's a difference between unlocked carrier and unlocked boot loader.
You do not need a custom ROM to use another Sim card, but you need to unlock the carrier on the phone
Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA Free mobile app
Is there a way to tell if I did a carrier unlock? I don't really even remember what method I used to root it.
You unlock the boot loader to flash a custom rom?
To sim unlock you would have had to run SSU.app or GT.app to international unlock then odined a older radio mj4 or mi3. Then change the APNs to match the carrier's settings for internet and mms messages.
I called sprint and got the master unlock codes ... is there an easy way to unlock it now that I have those?
