Hi, did anyone try to I install apk not from market? I can't seem to install even I checked unknown sorces in the security settings.
It gives the screen to install but I can't press the install button
EDIT: problem solved. I had ( soft button light) app running is was not letting me install any apks. I font know why but it seems that that application and I read some screen filter apps when they are running they preventing to install non market apk.

For me the culprit was Twilight
I can't seem to install my downloaded APK files in HTC 10. . I got the message "No application found for this file type" even if I already ticked the check mark for "Allow installation of apps from unknown sources". Any idea why?

I have 4 applications in the not installed list.
I choose install for all 4 and give permissiin to install, the applications are not installing, they keep showing up in the not installed list.
What could be the issue.
The problem does not go away even after reboot.

Try signing into Google Talk and then go back into the Market. I'm not positive about Honeycomb, but previous versions of Android have used Google Talk as a type of authenticator that the device is registered to a specific user.
I've had this problem as well, sometimes dis/re-connecting to wifi works.
Check your app drawer, they are probably installed. I've been having this problem too. They show up as not installed in the market, yet I'm using them. Use the market report form, and tell them what's happening. I did and they asked for more deets and screenshots.
What I've noticed: If you check the box to add a shortcut, it doesn't happen
If you click the app that says it's not installed, it will show buttons to install and uninstall. Tap install and the list updates, even though the thing was definitely installed before. It has only happened with paid apps, but that may be a coincidence.
Again, report this stuff so they can address it.
Today I discovered how to bypass this. I guess its a glitch or whatever... just clear defaults for market. Look for the app on Google for the market link. Follow it using market to make sure its the one. Go back to Google. This time follow it using browser.(before this make sure your not signed in on market.android.com) and click install. It will pop up asking you to sign in. Click sign in. Then it will ask again to use browser or market. This time hit market and it will be at accept & download... just tap that and it will start downloading...
I am running kushdecks ics. Not sure if it has anything to do...
Also don't try on non free apps.
Just found it curious I guess.

what are you talking about? installing apks away from the market from your sd card?
no. you know how sometimes you get links to the market and when you go to the market on the phone it says that your device isn't compatible? well that.
just open the link using your browser on the phone. then hit install it'll ask to sign in. when you press the sign in button. it asks you to either use the browser or the market app. hit market and just download...
Blah, they must have fixed it. Grrrrrrrr.....I want two games from there sale! >_<
Its only for free apps or games... if it has a price it gives an error

Know of any good apks to try this with?

Try this: (note: only works on rooted phones)
Download this app https://market.android.com/details?id=com.wemobs.android.lcdresolution (free from the market) & reset your screen resolution back to stock.
Next, Force Stop Market & then Clear Data in Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage Applications.
Reopen Market, accept the TOS, & try to get your app!
I had this same problem & this fixed it for me. Seems the market checks your device's screen resolution to see if the app is compatible @ that resolution or not & if it's not supported by the app, you get the "Your device is not compatible" message.
Hope this helps.

I'm trying to download and install a couple of 3D apps from Market and I get this stupid message..
The apps are definitely compatible and are listed in the EVO 3D apps thread....
Isn't it possible to change the device info in the system ini to stop this problem...?

thanks, Im a bit of a noobie
where is the build.prop and what exactly should I change it to? I want to install 3D apps so I should change to xxx3D?
I just noticed I cant even install a plain notepad app from MArket "Your device isnt..." Is that because of the QHD resolution..? Also screenshot app got "Your device isnt..."
This android market is a pain in the but...almost as restrictive as iphone market place...
EDIT: I found build.prop and changed ro.product.model=LG P920 Optimus 3D but still ""Your device isnt..." message.
What else should I change...?
It worked for me
Thank you
I've gone back to stocj rooted rom and everythings dandy....no more issues...
Hi all, just a quick report on this issue- using CM7 copes, android 2.3.2 booted from SD card on hd2 dual boot with WP7 in nand.
I was having the incompatible issue fairly often, so I installed "LCD Resolution (Root)" free download from the Market (it allowed me to install that one) but I think you have to donate $.99 for it to work. Then, in this order, force close Market (if running), delete the data, then launched LCD Resolution and reset my resolution from 180 default to 160, hit apply but did not check always boot into this (an option), then the app rebooted the phone. After the reboot I checked the resolution- it was at 160- opened Market, accepted terms, searched for the app I wanted and was able to install it without a problem.

I just read a review of the LCD Resolution app and the reviewer said the app was saying all market apps were incompatible until he reverted to the default settings for the display
same problem on lizi y4 (gooapple v5)
I also have so many problems with "device isn't compatible with this version" in google play. I have a Lizi Y4, which is same model as Gooapple V5.
I tried installing lcdresolution, but cannot, as device isn't compatible .
What are the checks that google play makes? Is it indeed giving me this message due to density, or does it do other checks too?
Regards, JK.

Wiping cache wont work. Closing the app wont work. You need to remove the google account from settings>account and sync. Then just open google play and it will ask you to login. Just login and you wont face the error ever again.

Tried to remove the account. It is saying that account is used by some app and cant be removed. I have to do factory reset to remove account. I dont want to do that. Any other way?
One more thing I want to ask. When I tried to remove account it also say that removing account will remove all contacts, messages and other data from phone. Is it true?

Checked the net - there are LOADS of people having this issue, regardless of ROM being used - it seems to be something with Google Play itself. I saw a few different solutions being offered but none of them were being reported as being a definitive fix.
For me, it started with newly installed apps I had just paid for not showing up on the device - no icon, no entry to create a shortcut with the shell (in my case ADW Pro on ICS 4.0.4 stock, deodexed, rooted VZW Nexus). Strangely enough, when you went to the entry in Play, it showed as installed and you could actually open it from there. I got around this by creating an ADW launcher action - the entry for the actions DID show for the program.... go figure?
I tried clearing the cache and data on Play and rebooting. All that got me was no apps at all showing on the installed section for awhile until it updated. Then I was able to update one app, but still had the sam trouble with the original update that was causing the 403 errors.
Don't think there's any solution out there that truly works for anyone. We're going to have to let Google fix this one, but we should let them know - I already posted one bug report; the more of us that do so will put the isue on the front burner.

If you do a factory reset, all the data will be deleted. However if you remove the google account, the contacts synced with your google account will be shown again in the contacts list once you add the account again.
Faktory reset isn't the right way. I already did it.

What worked for me
Ok so after racking my brain with this issue I found the app I was trying to install / update (which was swiftkey x in this case) was purchased under my other email i used when Google Play was Android Market. So what I did was open up Google Play and for my HTC EVO 4G hit the menu button which allowed me to choose an alternate Google account. I originally purchased and installed my Swiftkey X on a different account than my Google Play was currently on. I picked the account I originally purchased Swiftkey X on, then did a search in which stated purchased, hit update and WAAAAAAAAAAAAA LAAAAAAAAAA!! no more error (403). Hope this helps. Seems like for purchased apps and maybe others Google will look to see which original account you installed it under. So if you were like me and started with one email account and changed it for one reason or another you will have to use whatever account the application was installed under in Google Play / Android Market for updates.
[side note] If you do not see your Google Account listed under Google Play account options. Ensure you have your phone setup for Syncing that particular Gmail account or else you will have to set that up first before proceeding.

nah... sorry, but I'm using my account for years now... never changed it in any way.
BTW, is this a form of copy protection? Does it happen on unrootet phones with original software, or only with rooted special deliveries like MIUI, Cyanogen mod... etc.?!
guys CMIIW error 403 is a problem with proxy my sugestions is try restore the old default apn and clear the proxy in setting save and reboot hope it will work
Ever since I rooted I cannot install any apps outside of Google Play using a few different apk installer apps. I do have the box checked to install from unknown sources. When I click on the install button in the apk installer app nothing happens. However, the cancel button does work. I was able to install apps this way before rooting. And I have tried installing several different apps so it cannot be bad downloads. Even the new Facebook download could not be installed.
Can anyone think of anything else to check?
Have you tried putting them directly into sytem/app and rebooting?
Thats a new one on me.... I did notice after rooting that sideloaded apps took about twice as long to install as play store or amazon apps. How long have you left it to install?

It never installed, the "Install" button did not register when clicked. It was as if the installer was telling me that installing was not an option. The "cancel" button did work and that is how I got out of the application. I have tried this several times with several different apks using a few different installers.

Hello -- was this matter ever resolved? I'm having the exact same problem.
Rooted Galaxy Note on Jellybean.
As I recall, it happened once earlier, and I think I was able to resolve it, but for the life me can't remember what I did.
I finally got it to work.
1) Force stop Google Play Store.
2) Clear data Google Play store
3) Uninstall updates Google Play Store
I was then able to updates my other apps.
Every time I mod an app regardless of the app or what I do to it when I go to install it it says app not installed, why? I have tried using apk sighner zipsighner and nothing is working im using the latest apk editor pro + does anyone have a clue whats going on???
Many reasons can cause this issue. To avoid copy/paste operations here you are recommended to an appropriate Google search. TYVM
