There isn't a Nook Tablet configuration with 8Gb storage and 1Gb RAM -- only the 16Gb tablet has 1Gb of RAM. So, double-check your device to make sure which you have...
I suspect that the OP was referring to the 8GB Nook Tablet with 512MB RAM since B&N had marketed them as 8GB and 16GB models. I had gotten an 8GB model thinking that I could make up for that with an SD card but the 16GB model runs a lot smoother with the 1GB RAM. (I ran across this thread looking for ROMs for my 8GB NT which I am giving to a friend if I can find a good ROM for it.)

Hi all,
For android on TP2 (rhodium 400 for my case), would it be worth upgrading to a 4GB SDHC to run the android files?
Would it be noticeably faster?
I see 4GB microSDHC goin for about $8 on Amazon, and I might go for one if it makes any difference in android performance. Anybody's opinions?
Currently I have 2GB (I think class 1).
Thanks in advance.

If it's not an SDHC (or better) card it's technically "classless". At any rate, I doubt seriously that you'd see any better performance on it. I have a 2gb "classless" card and an 8gb class4 card, and honestly Android runs about the same on either card...

most of the 2gb cards are pretty good in speed, name-brand manufacturers didn't have to put a class on it - i get around 19mb/s read, 10mb/s write on my sandisk 2gb.
anything more - 4gb/8gb/16gb/32gb have classes because they had to do some tweaking for the sdhc specifications, with classes meaning minimum sequential write (C2, C4, C6, C10 = minimum 2mb-4mb-6mb-10mb/s sequential write). obviously, there are some cards that could perform faster than their minimum write speed (my sandisk 32gb C2 does 5.5mb/s write, and my a-data 16gb C4 does 9mb/s write)
just don't get a crappy generic
Mine must be classless. I am not exactly sure how fast my 2gb is, but it's at a decent speed. When I transfer about 200 mb files, it takes me about a minute roughly. I will just stick to my 2gb then.
Saves me $8 bucks! Thanks to both.
Just saw something mentioned on verge as well as ifans.com about a possible new nook tablet (8 gig instead of 16) possibly coming out this wednesday? Anyone else heard any news on this?
http://www.theverge.com/2012/2/20/2811295/nook-8gb-tablet-to-launch-february-22nd
Take this how you will...but...brother in law does work for walmart as a manager in electronics and DID confirm a new one IS being released....was not sure what day though. So perhaps there IS truth to this rumor/post what have you?
Another new tablet?
Yes, I read an article early this morning when I giving my NT a CM7 makeover. I wonder if this one will have a camera. I am a serious fan of the Nook devices and grateful for devs who are willing to delve in and expose the true nature of these devices .

My bet is on a lower price point and fewer features to better compete against the Fire.
I'm guessing that in addition to lower storage, the new one'll have a certain miracle security hole blocked...

You win the bet! But 8G of memory instead of 16G seems to be the only change in features.

There also appears to be half the RAM for the 8 gig version.
Nook Color ????? Only difference I guess would be the processor.

The screen is better in the NT than the NC, and the weight is slightly less. I'm wondering what the price of the NC will drop to now?
NC is now $169

I wonder how that'll affect performance.
I compared the xloader and uboot source code for 1.4.1/1.4.2. The big differences I could see all had to do with accommodating for the new crappier memory chips. Also saw a reference to an "ELATION" device, which may be the codename for this crippled POS. Nothing that I found changed or related to the bauwks bl hack.
Seriously... 512MB is what the Nook Color has. I suppose if you look at this as an upgrade for the nook Color, it's okay. But it's a severe downgrade for $50 IMO. Dunno.

I thought the NC Had 256mb?
what the! you think they would have kept the 1gb of ram to have the performance edge over the kindle fire

Hi guys, I wanted a 9.7" tablet but not sure what to go for so would appreciate your help. This would be my first ever tablet!
I want something to read books on and play game/surf web/watch youtube etc, budget is $220 USD. I've done some research and have narrowed it down too (prices I got online added next to each tablet):
Ampe A90 $210
(has 1.2Ghz A10 CPU; 1GB DDR3 Ram and 16GB internal storage, plus 7000mAh battery)
ONDA VI40 $220
(has 1.5Ghz A10 CPU; 1GB DDR3 Ram and 16GB internal storage, plus 5000mAh battery)
ICOO D90w $218
(has 1.2Ghz A10 CPU; 1GB DDR3 Ram and 16GB internal storage, plus 5000mAh battery)
Cube u9gt2 $209
(has 1.2Ghz Rockchip CPU; 1GB DDR3 Ram and 8GB internal storage, plus 8000mAh battery)
Ployer Momo11 $200
(has 1.5Ghz A10 CPU; 1GB DDR3 Ram and 16GB internal storage, plus 7800mAh battery)
Given that there prices are so close which would you go for
If you are looking for something with dev support, meaning custom ROMs, you can get an HP Touchpad for this price if you look around online. It has a 1.2ghz Dual Core Snapdragon S3, 1GB of RAM and around a 6000mAh battery.
surely the Chinese tablets would have dev support and are better specs wise?
The Ampe A90 seems better though as it has extra 8GB internal storage but this has a Rock CPU compared to an A10. Not sure if there is a difference as the speeds seem the same.
Anyone else?
Im thinking its either the Onda Vi40 Elite, Cube U9GT2 or the Ampe.
Leaning towards the Onda.
Ended up getting the vi40 for £153 from the UK. Looking forward to it.
Not on your list, but I highly recommend cchecking out the Advent Vega.

What is the big difference between the 16 and 8gb besides the ram ?
there really is no other differnce
(besides ram and storage)
yes. the internal sd goes from 8 to 16gb and then the working ram from a half a gig to a full gig. maybe the later gives it a tiny speed boost ? maybe...
There's a bit more to it than that. Fattire broke down some of the key differences when the 8GB launched.
Also, one should note that no version of B&N's OS before 1.4.2 will work on the 8GB and there are quite a few roms (I think all of the cm7 based ones) that will not work on the internal memory of the 8GB model without some modification.
Also, less RAM = less multitasking capability. Someone actually made a point the other day that we oddly enough differentiate between the two based on the internal memory size (8GB vs. 16GB) when in reality, the important difference is actually the RAM, as this actually has performance implications on the device.

I found my way here while trying to make an informed decision. I could be totally wrong, but it looked to me like the 16GB has 2X the support from this amazingly talented pool of xdadevelopers. (SOLD! )
Oh, yeah. And the 8GB is cheaper, too.

If that's the case, then does the difference between the 8 and the Nook Color come down to the processor and the price?

Nook Tablet is lighter, has better battery life, a microphone (though it doesn't have bluetooth and the nook color does, albeit short ranged) and as you mentioned the better processor, which is kind of important.
So I should I even root my nook tablet (8gb) yet, will it just give me the market?
It depends on what you want.
Just rooting will give you access to the google play store which has a ton more apps than the B&N app store. You could install a custom launcher (like go launcher or adw launcher) to give it a full user interface change as well. Or you could install a custom rom like cm7/cm9 for a complete OS change.
Hello friends!
Recently I bought a chinese tablet Fugn C-30. At the first inspection, I found out that there is much less battery. Then after trying a bunch of utilities from google play, SD Insignt showed that instead of 64GB ROM there is a Toshiba 016G94 16GB memory card. And it seems there instead of 4 GB of RAM there is only 1GB. A pair of other utilities claims that there is a quad-core CPU instead of an octa core... :crying:
And I had a question. How can I get to the actual specifications? How to make the system display truthful information?
I would really appreciate your help.
