Jelly Bean, 982.124.18.enCA [Rogers/Fido] - Motorola Droid RAZR

For Canada, JB is pushed via OTA today on Rogers.
Update # 9.8.2.124.18
I am looking for sbf or fastboot files for xt910 Rogers Razr if someone has found it please post it.
Thanks

Fido
Fido would be appreciated as well.

cannot see it yet.
I just switched back from CM10 to base rogers and I cannot see the system Update (yet).
If someone else finds it please post, I will keep looking for it and post the OTA file once I see it if no one else has.
Thanks for the heads up.
now all we need is root on a windows computer.

a list of all fastboots. you can see 2 rogers there, 1 is ICS, 1 is GB. i forgot which is which tbh lol...
but im having trouble too with the OTA. kept failing on me, and if i manually update it using safestrap3.11 it just fails on verifying phone build.
i defrosted all bloatwares, cleaned cache and dalvik, nothing helps. i really dont want to factory reset just yet, or even trying fastboot since im too lazy to set it up again, but at this point, that seems to be the only solution.
anybody got any ideas?

Hi Red...
Do you have the OTA file? Can you share it?
You may have to fast boot the ics, then root, then voodoo, then upgrade.
Remember you cannot go back to ICS once you upgrade with OTA, and so far root in JB only works from a Linux machine for our xt910's

i got frustrated and caved in. i just fastboot the JB image. check out the sticky in dev forum. works fine. no roots is ok for now, coz all im missing is TiBu and my saved games lol everything else is backed up by Google.
there's an OTA in one of the thread in General forum. it's titled Fido, but somebody on page 2 posted the Rogers OTA files.
but yes, now that i think about it, i should fastboot ICS, root, voodoo, and upgrade. oh well. :fingers-crossed:

I got the update notification but it failed so I tried unrooting

I got the update notification but it failed updating so I tried unrooting my phone and using :
6.7.2-180_SLC-35_R02_SIGNLATAM_SPYDERICSROGERS_P012_A012_HWp2b_CFC_fastboot.xml
I am a noob and I don't really know what I am doing. I finally got that XML to work
but now when I check for updates it doesn't say there are any updates anymore
any ideas? Is the update stored on the phone even if it fails?

[Q] Verizon Update on rooted phone, now bricked.

Help.
I have a rooted Thunderbolt and I have been able to reject the update from Verizon until this afternoon when my phone started to update on its own. The update didn't go through and I got an error icon. Now my phone just goes through the same cycle of turning it self off and trying to update and crashing.
I am able to get to the Clockwork Mod recovery page but the only option that works is the 'reboot system now', which starts the phone and the whole cycle of trying to update is started.
Does anyone have an idea of how to get my phone working again?
Thanks in advance.
Mike
I'm really sorry to hear that happened, I'm not sure what you can do. Hopefully someone will be able to help you out. But at least I can tell you that you are not alone! I wasn't rooted, but my phone did autoupdate on its own at about 2:30pm today.
I posted about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1234844
Pull your SDcard, wipe the pg05img.zip file, and try again. You might have to reflash clockwork.
This is the problem with running rooted stock ROMs. I know flashing a new ROM isn't what a noob wants to do, but it will avoid these very confusing headaches.
whats if you rooted using revolutionary? As far as i know there wont be that pg05img.zip file to delete.
Would you always be in danger is this if you are rooted and stay stock?
Why would someone want to root their phone and stay stock ??????

Nope. One only has to keep up with the current releases, rooted versions of which come out within days of official release.
Are you sure it is the Verizon update?
I have the same behavior on my T-bolt since about 10 pst today. However, just before the phone shuts down to reboot, I see a note about a new version of Clockworkmod Recovery 4.0.1.5.
So I have been working on the assumption that it is CWM Recovery that is doing an automatic update.
I also am running rooted stock, and have not updated to latest release.
OK, it isn't the update to CWM Recovery that is the problem; it is the Verizon OTA update, which they have figured out how to force on us. I fixed my phone using the solution given by Mike later in this thread.

This, plus "root while you can" - there's no guarantee that rooting will be possible with each subsequent (unrooted) release, but you can root now and stay rooted to keep your options open. Also, getting full backups of everything is easier when rooted.
Did the fix work?
Mike, did you try what loonatik suggested? Did it work? Waiting breathlessly...
Unless I am misunderstanding the problem wiping cache from Clockwork recovery should clear out the update and it will quit trying to install it. For the future if you go to settings in the about phone or software update section (dont remeber which) there is an option to de-select scheduled update checks.

Wait.. what? Most ROMs I've seen are debloated.. At the very least they have VZW crap removed
Thanks guys for all your help and interest. I tried the solution offered by lunatic but it did not work. Thanks any way I was still looping through continuous on and off cycle. I did however did find a solution on another site. Here is the solution from Sele.
http://www.thunderboltforums.com/forum/htc-thundebolt-hacking-guides/2257-rs-guide-how-get-rid-ota-forced-reboots-rooted-phone.html
It was easier fix than I thought it would be. Step #1 worked.
I also did this to stop the update from happening again.
"If you are rooted use root explorer or super manager and set system to R/W. Then navigate to /system/etc/security. Find the file named otacerts.zip and rename it to otacerts.zip.bak and reboot. Should fix you up."
I'm sorry I can't remember who offered this solution to give credit to. I haven't had any updates yet but only time will tell.
Good Luck with your phone.

Definitely a handy resource.. Every time a new OTA comes out, this is a very frequently asked question.

[Q] ready to update my x2 but would like a couple questions answered first

I am ready to install the latest update to my x2, but i am currently rooted and have the pulldown toggle zip and crt animation on my device, as well as the supercharger script, i know its very easy to remove the supercharger script, but would the crt or pulldown effect the install? Anyone encountered this issue yet?
thanks for the help.

In order for you to update your gonna have to sbf back to 2.3.3 if that's what your on. If not, then the update will fail because of the root. You will be able to update once you sbf & wipe data in stock recovery as well just to be safe. Hope that helps
Edit: this is for if you are trying to get the ota...sorry I should clarified that first
thanks for the help that basically clears it all up, seeing as im fairly happy with it right now im going to leave well enough alone, when they roll out a bigger update i will consider it, thats what i figured i was going to have to do.

Just use titanium backup then and back to stock, do the update and reload ur apps. Takes all of about an hour, tops.
Droid X2 - Eclipse v1.0
yeah i have all of that done already, i might give it a try, thanks
Rp...I don't think it will fail just due to root. U WILLA lose ur root.
It most likely WILL fail due to the mods/or rom u run due to missing files that are necessary.
if u are stock rooted I think it would work...but either way good idea to go back bone stock just to avoid any issues altogether
im running the completely stock rom, removing the script i have isnt an issue what so ever, is there any way to remove installed zips that were installed in the recovery?

True always better to be safe than sorry
if your on stock and you want to return your animations to stock you could possibly extract framework-res.apk from /system/framework/ of the stock gingerbread and push it via adb to your phone or you could use root explorer to do so as well. that should erase your mods to animations. and you'll most likely have to reboot after. but animations should retrun to stock after, than unroot and take the ota. but its never a bad idea just to go to bone stock via sbf as rp076 suggested
For taking off the toggles u can just flash the stock notification zip from one of those threads I think it is there somewhere. Or ask the creator of the toggle zip u flashed for the stock one...
But ur safest bet is sbf and data wipe. It's not hard to do at all and is just a good thing to know how to do
I recovered my stock rooted backup from eclipse .8 and took the OTA no problem. You will lose root but Pete's one click will work to root again. You won't lose any apps.

Why do people keep thinking that just because you have root you have to SBF.. Root has nothing to do with the OTA update..
If you try and it fails it's not due to root, it would have to do with something frozen, or you have OTA Blocked with Rom Manager, or something else changed...
Of all the phones out there I can't think of any (ever) that have blocked OTA updates just because of root access.. In fact OTA Blocking had been added in to Rom Manger a few years back to prevent the OTA updates so people wouldn't update and lose root on updates that were not rooted yet.
On a side note, why would you SBF to 2.3.3 instead of just going to 2.3.4? You're just adding an extra step there. That would be like flashing back to Froyo SBF (what's the point?) if you want 2.3.4 GB..

Calm down killa...just stating what I know thru past experiences & I'm not the only one who's had the problem before. When the 2.3.3 update first came out I couldn't update because my phone still was rooted, NOTHING FROZEN OR REMOVED. I read in other threads at the time that sbf'ing was the way to fix the problem. Once i did that, i was able to get the update installed successfully. Its not a wrong procedure, but a way to be sure to get a clean install. And as for flashing back, I was saying to do that if he wanted the ota
Side note...rom manager isn't or hasn't even been available yet for this phone ...surely you knew that

[Q] RAZR 6.12 update to ICS

So When I first bought my RAZR (not he MAXX) I rooted it and took all the bloat off. And I didnt install any roms or anything else. Now that we have fastboot files and the community is picking up with new roms I though id flash ICS on it, problem im having is that I cant update it to 6.12 because im guessing i uninstalled all the bloat. Ive tried recovering the bloat from titanium but it still didnt work (maybe i didnt have all the bloat recovered or something). So that is my problem, I am wanting a taste of ICS but im having trouble updating to 6.12- is there a way to maually flash 6.12 or let it update with all the bloat uninstalled. Or really anything that can help me would be very much appreciated. I am using safestrap newest version with 6.11 isntalled.
Thanks in advance
Are you trying to get to 181 on a cdma version
I have an easy way to help but need to know your current setup. If 173 I have a painless no data loss fix
its 6.11.744.xt912.verizon.en.us Android version 2.3.5 the kernal is 2.6.35.7... and im not really sure exactly the version to update too, as i dont plan on keeping it anyway. It just says under dt's ICS rom that it needs to be on the 6.12 update in order to flash it.
I wish there was a rom of just the complete stock version of the RAZR that i could flash and then update the stock rom.
I have a stock 173 but it won't work for you. You are going to have to use an rsd utility and completely go to 173, ota to 181, then flash 84 if you want. But you will be stuck until a newer version comes along.
Did you make a backup before removing bloat? Just restore it and you're good to update.
You also need to be in non safe mode if you're not already.
If you don't have a backup, now is a good time to make one. Then it's off to sbf land you go!

Manually trigger soak update

So i downloaded the soak update when it was launched. Resided in cache directory.
But since I was rooted and had bootstrap it would not install. I have sbf'd back to stock today and was wondering if I copy the update back to the cache folder, is there a way to manually trigger the update process?

EDIT (Found out how):
Placed it on the root of my external SDcard re-named to update.zip
Then held volume down while powering on, pressed volume down until I saw android recovery, then pressed volume up. When I saw the yellow triangle I pressed and held volume up and down and it brought me to stock recovery where I chose the zip to flash.
Why would you want to run that update?
Well, I guess the biggeset benefit I want out of it is the 1080p camera. I have it on 2.3.4 rooted and has been fine (on stock rom). So, I figure I am a candidate for a stock rom on this phone as I haven't (In the past 8 months) unlocked and flashed a custom rom as they all seem to have snags of some sort.
4G is not that important to me as I live in Michigan and we were/are yet to see WiMax in my area, and now with the LTE push that's the nail in the cofin for this particualr phone. But even with that said, I don't see a fully stable ICS release yet for our phone - as that is what would get me to unlock and flash - so I am not concerned with locking the bootloader as the next hopeful release for this phone should be ICS.

From what I have read this update will not allow you to ever unlock your phone should you decide you ever want to. I'd check into it a little deeper before you flash just in case. ICS will come eventually

Save yourself potential grief down the road and just install the 2.3.5/cm7 rom or the 2.3.5ish rom if you dig blur for some reason. Both have 1080 and are extremely stable. That way you get your 2.3.5 fix and if something comes out in the future that you need an unlocked bootloader for you wont be screwed. I mean think about it, if you plan to keep your photon till q4, cm9 and the rest will be perfectly stable very shortly after they leak ics. And really, our devs will release a better build than anything that moto might deliver.
Also, you posted this in the incorrect forum.
I'm not sure how to manually update. I'd recommend flashing MoFo 2.3.5ish as not to lock your bootloader incase down the road you change your mind. I'm running MoFo 2.3.5ish and it's fast, stable and has the 1080p camera (the only reason I'm not on an ICS ROM). Then, once camcorder becomes working on ICS, I'll move back.
Cheers!
I ran the update manually. I did so by renaming the update to update.zip, stuck it in the internal sd root directory, booted into recovery, and ran the flash update.zip option.
Just a heads up, you need to be on 196_6 for it to work. It throws an error with 196_7.

OP updated
I wish there was a way to do this while being on the current soak update. I'm already on 2.3.5 but I'm having ridiculous issue and aren't sure how to fix them...
What I mean exactly is I wish I could find the soak update files (2.3.5 update), rename that to update.zip and flash it thru Android Recovery. I'm debating on switching out my current Nandroid backup (thru BSR) system.img with one I downloaded from another post that is from the soak update to see if that helps correct my issues... any thoughts if that would work?

My bootloader is already locked. I'm already on 2.3.5 from the soak update. The reason I'm hesitant about flashing the file in OP is because it says "Blur.Version.4.5.3.6.MB855.Sprint.en.us.zip" and the soak update is "Blur.Version.4.5.4.12.MB855.Sprint.en.us.zip"
I looked at the files and see some of the newer apps in there but none of the other updated system apps. That's only reason why I'm somewhat hesitant to rename and try to flash thru Android Recovery thinking that my device would throw an error because it thinks I was trying to downgrade it...
So if the file in OP is soak update, than why is it say previous official 2.3.4 version?

Verizon XT912 Razr Upgrade to JB

Hi everyone, I have a quick question. I am currently running Stock ICS rooted with Safestrap 3.11 installed. Can I perform the OTA JB 98.72.16.en. update? I know I should use OTA Rootkeeper to temp unroot before attempting to upgrade. Then restore root after upgrading via the saved backup. Yesterday I tried to install the update but it failed at some point during the process. I did not have Safestrap installed at that time. Not sure if there was something wrong with the downloaded update or not, but I don't want to try again until I know it will work and not screw anything up. Has anyone else updated to JB using OTA from a rooted Stock ICS ROM? If someone can point me to a detailed procedure that would be great. Thanks
I actually just did the same thing. Just beware, the kernel upgrades with the OTA as well, so if you're running any custom ROMS, they may not work with the new update. In order to perform the OTA update, you should unfreeze any bloatware apps you may have frozen with TItanium Backup. I also used Voodoo's OTA Rootkeeper and maintained root without a problem, although I've heard mixed things. I left Safestrap installed when I upgraded, but I don't know if that was a good idea or not.
I actually had problems upgrading with safe strap installed. Gave me a failed update 3 times until I finally un installed. Flashed fine after that. Safe strap does indeed work after for me. That is with the official cm10.1 nightly rom. So far so good. Still dual booting on a phone with a locked bootloader. Ha...

So uninstalling Safestrap might be the best bet. I am running a rooted Stock OTA ICS ROM, nothing special, just what came from Verizon. I actually started with Gingerbread 2.3.6, rooted that, and when ICS came along, I did the OTA after temp unrooting with OTA Rootkeeper. Been running that since. Now I just recently got the message on my Razr that JB is available. I tried updating but it failed. I think the download might have been corrupted or something. I redownloaded the update earlier today but have put off updating until posting on here. So i guess I will uninstall SS and then try the update again and hope I keep root. Then reinstall SS after that. If anyone else has any input or ideas please feel free to post your methods and results.
Anyone else have any experience performing the OTA update to JB or installing Stock Verizon JB in some other fashion. I would like to hear about it as I am still a little unsure about performing this update and don't want to lose root priviledges. Thanks.
Well I just tried to perform the OTA JB update again and it failed again. I temp unrooted using Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper, set SuperUser to OTA Survival, rebooted my phone, and then attempted the update to JB and about 1 minute into the process it craps out and gives the triangle exclaimation point and then reboots 30 seconds later. Nothing seems broken, its right back to my Stock verizon ICS 6.16.211.XT912. Of course I am rooted but as i stated in a previous post, I have been rooted since GB 2.3.6 and was able to perform the update to ICS using the same method I tried here for JB. What gives? Is anyone else having these issues. I have seen on other forums something called the DroidRazrUtility which is supposed to update you to JB and provide root if needed. Is this the only option for me? Also if I perform a factory reset will that screw my phone up since it is rooted? Will I lose root if I factory reset it? Will a factory reset then allow me to update to JB with ease? Lots of questions but I want to be sure of what I am doing. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Tried two more times and the update failed each time. I think I am going to try a factory reset and see what that does. As a note I did have CWM Touch 5.8.4.5 installed with ROM Manager but uninstalled both and also had Safestrap after that and I made sure I removed that too. Unless I didn't get it all removed. Is there a procedure to ensure they have been fully removed?
For those of you who are having touble getting JB to load on your XT912 Razr, use the following script by Developer mattlgroff. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192467
Follow the instructions as he says to and it works perfect, to include rerooting using the Razr Blade script. Be sure to not only thank him but donate if you can. Developers like this are a life saver to all us that rely on them to provide us the freedom we deserve on our mobile devices. I spent 2 days doing everything I knew how to do to get JB installed and all to no avail. Used mattlgroff's Droid Razr Utility and life is once again good.
I have a rooted Razr Maxx and can not get the update to work. It has failed 3 times now. Any suggestions?

Should I do a backup first? If so what is the best for that?
