I've been debating whether or not it would be worth it to upgrade to the one from my Verizon DNA. I know there are talks of a "supercharged" version of the one.... But I also like the fact of being able to go down to AT&T and pick up one tomorrow on my day off
Anyone here come from a dna? Any thoughts, comments, ect are welcome. I don't usually post to forums. So here goes. Lol
Thanks

DNA has the same screen just bigger, same feel and look. Now with mods probably the same features. I guess it comes down to if you want to go with the metal or not. Plus doesn't the DNA only have 16 GB? those are the only upgrades. Plus a features here and there. Might not be worth it unless one of the above is a big deal to you.
Thanks. Your right. I'm wondering weather it would be a waste of money or not. Thanks for putting in perspective for me.

I don't think so, Verizon uses different radios. This MAY be possible with the sprint version but the DNA was special and had both CDMA and GSM. Just wait for Verizon to release, may take a while but it will be worth it. Remember that verizon won't activate just any phone. Usually it has to be one of theirs. It's not like GSM phones where you pop a sim in.

That's what confuses me, on my razr and the dna, the settings always change to gsm settings on vzw, and since I've had more freedom now I have an unlocked bootloader and soff, I flashed a eng hboot and able to flash a different radio. so with that being said, is the radio your speaking of the hardware radio or the firmware radio that comes out in software updates?

No it's hardware as far as I know. The devs confirmed that the CDMA and GSM versions are different. I would just hold off a month or so if you need it on Verizon
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I would say upgrade.
Considering Verizon doesn't really play nice with HTC, you'll probably see a gimped or watered-down version of the One in a few months on Verizon if you're lucky. It'll likely have Verizon branding everywhere, a different hardware design so you need to buy new accessories just for it, and 16GB of storage with no room to grow.
I came from Verizon just for the One, and I think it was well worth it.

IMHO... Nothing wrong with DNA except storage space. I don't need external storage but over time...32gb is a minimum requirement for me. The One camera is perfect for me as well. A lot of my shots are taken in low light and there's no smartphone on the market that compares in this aspect.
Lastly, the dev support is awesome right now and will only grow in time.

Not true, put them side by side and you'll see that the One screen is brighter and "whiter". I like the screen on the One a lot more than the DNA, I dont regret changing phones one bit.
Also, if you have short stubby thumbs like me you can actually reach the other button, I had to use both hands on the DNA for that
I upgraded from the DNA, and I haven't regretted it yet.. The camera is a big difference, I love blinkfeed, and I love the new aluminum body.. plus I get lte, so way faster

Was thinking about switching from Verizon for the one but both of my lines are unlimited and was kinda worried about loosing it. Now Verizon is offering its customer's the option to buy a new phone with a down payment plus monthly payments and I keep my unlimited. Plus I have an inside tip about Verizon's version of the One.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
not so necessary to change a new phone. my old phone was broken,so i got the htc one.
I'm using the DNA and the One right now.
Storage is a huge plus for me. LTE is nice, especially with unlimited data. And the One looks better.
But, if storage isn't a big deal for you, I wouldn't switch to the One. The two are very similar. Especially in performance.

THIS. The battery life is better, believe it or not the screen is actually more crisp. The phone feels more high end, it does operate faster, no more WiFi notification spam, you can delete all bookmarks w/o rooting. Root is currently available, where it isn't for the current software on the DNA. More space, you get LTE and mms w/o GoSMS. This is all assuming if you were using the DNA on att like I was. I didn't think it would be much of an upgrade but after a day of use it is and worth it. I liked the DNA so much bc I was willing to use it on att w/o LTE and mms, but the ONE is for sure an upgrade.

My only question is if they'll have a CDMA version on Verizon. I switched to Verizon from ATT because of poor signal and lack of 3G in my area. T-Mobile is even worse. Verizon is by far the best carrier in my area. If they are only releasing a GSM version, I guess I'll be skipping this one.

No difference in specs? way better screen, twice the RAM, better camera, newer gen processor. Specs are a lot better. The kicker will be whether anyone will dev for it. Since it will be stock android, it should run great out of the box, without LG being able to jack it up.
Agreed with everything except wondering if devs will dev for it. Its a nexus so that's a guarantee.

Non-expandable storage is absolutely fatal. If it had 32gb fixed, I could deal with it, but 8gb and 16gb? Sod off. Nice specs, though. If it has a fixed battery that's also a major negative. Need to see more companies taking the maxx approach: make a thin phone, then use the space savings for a huge battery.
What are your thoughts now that we have an official announcement? For me, I wasn't planning on getting this Nexus anyway, and seeing no LTE makes me glad that I'm not in a position to get it this year.
I was heavily upset with hearing that it's currently only a GSM/HSPA+ device..... I am totally down for getting one, if they make a CDMA/LTE version but it's so not worth switching to Tmobile or AT&T... I still have unltd data on vzw
If it had options like 32 or 64 gb I could deal with the non removable battery and lack of lte if i was on tmobile or something.

They've had a few. The Spectrum has almost identical specs as the Rezound.
....to go from a DNA to a Note 2 and now possibly back to a DNA. I know certain users around here might drop their jaws by looking at this post based on my posting history, but I'm considering it.
I must confess, I'm a phone whore. I get bored pretty easily and always like to try new phones, etc. I had a S3 before my original DNA purchase and then I returned that for a Note 2. But now I'm kind of bored with the Note 2. I think since I had the S3 before it, I'm kind of bored with Touchwiz.
There is a guy from my local Craigslist who is willing to do a trade of the phones and he will throw $50 on top. My phone and his are both in mint condition with all of the original accessories, etc. What do you guys think of the deal?
Also, before I consider it any further, I have a few questions:
1. He said the new OTA is installed and it's not rooted. From the quick reading here, there currently isn't a root method for the new OTA. Will there be any time soon?
2. I've seen both sides of this, but will Sense 5 be a realistic possibility? Whether official or unofficial, it doesn't matter to me.
3. Do any of the current custom ROM's make the home screen scrolling any faster? This is one of the biggest ones for me. I just didn't like the slow animations while scrolling the home screens. And please refrain from saying "just install Nova". I know that would help, but I'm talking about Sense.
I need to make a decision by tomorrow, so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Convince me! LOL.
Thanks!

I like both screens. Depends to me if u want a huge phone or a phablet

As for roms making the home screen scrolling faster, idk since I use Nova, but Supercharged Hatka has a lot of speed tweaks.

I prefer the size, feel, appearance and screen type. I have not used an LCD in awhile but I really like it at this point.
The note 2 felt like I had a mini tablet in my pocket and this feels like a normal phone.
The grippy material HTC used for the back of the phone makes it very easy to hold in one hand and the shiny plastic on the Note 2 made it difficult.
The shiny appearance of the note 2 was very flashy and it did look enormous compared to most phones where the DNA comes across as a normal ish phone size.
While the battery life on the note 2 was better than the DNA, I've been getting an average of 15-20 hrs per charge with what I would describe as moderately heavy usage.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
Theres nothing better with the DNA. Screen is very subjective (LCD vs amoled). Size is also, depends on person( 1 handed use with note 2/no skinny jeans here) .
I believe with the newest its there is not a way to root/soff yet. And hopefully the devs will provide sense 5. From what I hear Verizon isn't the quickest at releasing updates but that's why we have xda.
Scrolling has gotten better if comparing to intial release.
Personally my gadget addiction needed to try something else. Im currently revisiting the dna for the moment and no real complaints.
My current issue is with development(many slightly tweaked stock roms). Waiting to see what happens after HTC one release.
Samsung devices out of the box are slightly better. You can see all the little things they added when switching to HTC.
Verizon needs to stop touching things. Everything they added is extremely annoying. I'm not extremely hype about sense 5, all I see is a rss reader. Its very clean looking though.

I think he would like it unlocked so he can mod it if he wants to, and he probably will.
Be sure you're okay with sense because you'll be using stock wayyyy more than you are used to on other phones. That's the biggest thing you'll notice - while there is good dev support, its nothing compared to n2/gs3 support. You're options will be limited and hence, you'll be using sense (or sense based roms) a whole lot. I switched back for the same reason, touchwiz gets boring quick. I am 90% confident that we'll be getting sense 5.0 so that's good. It may not be for another 2-3 months though Others and yourself are correct in saying that until superCID gets worked out for 2.x.x updates, you (we) are SOL and stuck with stock until further implementation. Because of this, again, hope you're okay with stock

I don't understand the appeal of this phone if you already have a DNA. It would be a very minimal upgrade and a slight downgrade in at leastone aaspect (screen). The only thing I am seeing that's better is a slight bump on the CPU clock speed and a better camera. Don't get me wrong. It looks like a super slick phone, just nothing worth purchasing coming from a DNA IMO

No Verizon SUCKS for locking their phones. 99.5% of people could care less about being unlocked so they just don't like .5% of us. Not sure what you comment has to do with anything do you like locked phones? Just wondering cause it sounds kinda like it. Just saying...

LOL, I agree. First off I just got my DNA Wednesday (for free) and It shipped with 2.04 and I haven't received any update notification as to this moment. Second - I have avoided Big Red for the last 6 years and things like this make me wonder if this was a "good move" for me. However I will admit that the Droid DNA is one of the best android devices if not the best they offer this phone a bad-azz no doubt about it. I like HTC and I think they would or could care less if you boot, root or pollute your phone that's why they offer the unlock codes but they have been doing a terrible job marketing their products so when the #1 cellphone provider in America say's NO, they will certainly comply.
I just got one as well in the free deal and it came with v2.04. It has been asking me to update to v2.06 though.
There is a new way to root with S-off, it is done and getting ready for release for all to do if so desired. serious, any day.
How do you check what hboot it has?

Should be able to check in the bootloader. It's right up at the top below where it tells you either S-on/S-off.
Used the promotional coupon from Verizon and got my free DNA this past Friday. It had 2.04 out of the box. About 3 minutes after I powered it on I received the notification to install 2.06 which does nothing but fix some kind of sim card problems people were having. I did not do my research before upgrading to this phone and had no idea that rooting was not an option at the moment or that may have been a deal breaker. I came from the rezound and had it rooted the enitire time I had it. Sux not having a rooted phone after having one for so long. Almost feels like right now I'm in demo mode or something. Hopefully that moonshine method comes out soon cuz I'm in root withdrawal.

I've got a Galaxy Nexus and it's about time to retire it. I don't know whether to get a DNA or hold out for a One or DNA 2 (or whatever it'll be).
I am due for an upgrade within a month.
What would you do?
Get the s4. Sell it for $600. if you dont like it get dna for $300. Profit!

I dont think you can go wrong either way honestly. The DNA is a stellar phone. Most people believe it's still on par with the S4 if not better then it. I came form a GNexus and I can honestly say that I would rather have the DNA then suffer another day with that phone. lol. The One is going to be awesome if it ever comes to Verizon but I'm personally tired of the games they're playing about it.
its really up to what you want in the end. they DNA is good enough. the S4 is a bit faster but plastic and has 13 mp cam. the One is premium build quality with 4 ultrapx and a hair slower than the s4...I would recommend the One...i ended up getting a DNA like a couple of weeks before One but am still very happy

Well not officially but I don't know how it couldn't.
I went to the vzw store today and messed with the DNA. IMO it feels a lot like my old original incredible. I like the wireless charging. I really want sense 5, but will the DNA ever get that without rooting?
I really need better battery life too. I've got an OEM 2100 battery on my nexus and barely get through a work day with about 90 minutes of talk time and 90 minutes of screen time. From what I'm reading both the DNA and One get great battery life.

We have sense 5 now from Newt etc and the ROM is MINT IMO, The DNA's batt lasts a full day easily. Now that there is a software hack looming you dont have to worry about sending it off for Jtag as well.

I knew there was a Sense 5 ROM out there by newtoroot, but I am wondering if there will be one that comes OTA from Verizon or HTC.

I believe the DNA one of the devices Sense 5 will be rolling out on. The HTC Butterfly, which is essentially the internation version of the DNA, already has an official Android 4.2/Sense 5.1 leak available.
I wonder how long I'll have to wait if I were to hold out for a One or follow up to the DNA. I sure like the button layout better on the DNA than the One. That home button on the right is stupid IMO.

Depends on what you're paying for the DNA.
The max you should pay is $50 on contract $375 off contract (used).

The vzw store had the DNA for $200 on contract. The cheapest one on swappa is listed at $390.

As mentioned the Butterfly has been confirmed to be getting 4.2.2 and Sense 5. So once the Butterfly gets it then the DNA will get it later on. Rumors are possibly with an OTA as soon as August.

The funny part about the one being slower, the s4 snapdragon 600 is overclocked a good amount over the HTC1 and its still only a hair slower shows how HTC > Samsung. Enough said

To add to this, HTC also confirmed that's the next butterfly is coming out 3rd qtr, which means a US version won't be far behind

If you'll be paying Verizon's price, I'd wait out for the One/DNA 2.
Also keep in mind that the DNA has 16gb of memory, while the One comes with 32gb as the base option. I personally would wait a bit longer just for the extra memory.

A "hair slower" is a relative statement. The benchmark differences are exactly what you'd expect from a .2ghz difference, though for real world usage the difference is negligible.
The DNA is great, it's here now, it's marginally different from the One, and it's not very expensive anymore. Especially with the prospect of moonshine S-OFF, which would enable you to get Sense 5 if it doesn't show up in an OTA any time soon, I say go for the DNA.
