1) First delete the version 1.4 CWM
>>> 1. Delete /system/bootstrap directory
>>> 2. Delete /system/bin/e2fsck file
>>> 3. Rename /system/bin/e2fsck.bin file to e2fsck
2) Download and install version 1.5 CWM
3) If you have Titanium Back up, make a fresh back up.
4) Download and copy V20D back up folder to clockworkmod back up folder.
4.5) Download and copy radio.zip to SD.
5) Reset and go into CWM.
6) set the back up format to 'tar'
7) run Back up to external SD. This will give you a latest back up of you V10G.
8) run Restore from external SD and find the V20 back up folder.
8.5) run Install Zip from SD for the radio.zip file. NOTE this update takes 2-3 min. Do not panic.
9) When the opration is finished, reboot.
You should be in a fresh rooted V20D JB. Now download Titanium Back up and restore your apps.
Please thank the file contributors in their posts for their effort.

As for android updating, it has been 14 min and it just now finished fully booting
I will post again after I restore root
Update: I was able to successfully restore root with Voodoo OTA RootKeeper
Just like everyone else has stated although, While in SuperSU the first re-installation failed, but you just go back into the app and install it again and it successfully installs the su binaries
I find it hilarious and awesome that I haven't had to re root the phone since I got it in February and rooted with 10e (when the method was easy). I used Voodoo for 10G and now with 20D
The whole process took a good 15 min.

I have restored the rooted backup. Works great except for loss of service. The update included new radio. Anyone able to make a flash able zip?

Not sure if there is a way to upgrade radio via cwm. You can try replacing /system/bin/rild to one from ics

Well, I was going to write and tell people I can't get the OTA update and also seem to be unable to reinstall the stock apps so it will pick up the OTA update (rooted with 10g from another user), but....NEVER MIND! Will try this method and see if it works.
One question - in the instructions it says delete 1.4. Ok, from the link page I get that, but curious....wouldn't installing 1.5 just erase and overwrite 1.4 anyway? Why the need to delete it, other than just having a clean install? Doesn't matter to me really, just curious.

did everything you said below and I got the MD5 mismatch! It aborted the JB update in CWM. . and suggestions?

I am looking for a file which I think is needed for the JB update to occur for Tmobile 769.
The actual OTA ZIP file has been already posted but I am looking for the file
/sbin/recovery.
If you are rooted and have received "OTA is ready message", before you update your phone, please look for the above file and post it here for us.

Im pretty sure installing 1.5 over 1.4 is totally fine(I did). Never hurts to be too safe though.

1) You may be able to just install V1.5 on top of V1.4. I don't know. It's just two deletes and one rename to get rid of V1.4.
2) If you are getting MD5 mismatch, make sure you do not rename the file directory. Try downloading again and you can also check using an external MD5 checker app.

Does this flash the radios too? Those are also needed.

Everything seems to work fine without flashing baseband.

Yes, the radio seems fine. It looks like the 4 radio fls files were patched during the update. Actually, the signal level has improved around -5 dB. Just make sure you turn off the wi-fi calling option from the set up.
If you leave the option on, it will keep on try to turn off the radio.
P.S. - Anyone know how to get rid of Quick slide apps on the notification area?

So are we saying this CWM zip does not flash the radios?
It would be good to flash the new radios. It may help with cell reception.
More bars does not mean better reception if you have not flashed the radios. It just means that the new software is not reading what it is expecting from radio.

Will this work for rooted 10e as well?

[Q] OTA Broke my Wifi

This OTA broke wifi.
I am unlocked, was rooted, but no longer.
all stock.
and now there is an "error" under the wifi toggle. it can't be turned on.
Anyone seen this?
If wifi was really broke from this update I'm sure there would be a real s$&tstorm brewing all over the intertubes. I would try the update again if you wanna stay stock otherwise try reroot and custom rom to see if wifi is back. Personally I only ran the updated version long enough to get the radio and quickly get back to ics..
You need to flash the kernel modules for the kernel you are using
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
Hey! I have that too... gonna try reflashing the kernel. Was on dsb before update but thought I'd stay stock to check battery life with it. Didn't reflash after restoring my nand.
EDIT: Reflashed stock kernel, wifi error. Flashed dsb, error on flashing the update, "mainver is older" which is exactly what I didn't want to have happen with the OTA.
trickster: When you say modules what do you mean?

Hey feralicious , how are you trying to flash the kernel ? It's my understanding if you flash in fastboot the mainver of the kernel shouldn't matter. It only has issues if you try to PH98img.zip flash it that the android.text.file needs to be changed in the zip to successfully flash.

The dsb is flashed in recovery, then goes to hboot to flash the update which is a PH98img.zip file.
I found where scrosler posted a kernel to flash that is for the OTA version and flashed that and I see that my kernel info changed a bit but still get an error for wifi.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21907238&postcount=18
So now I just tried 3 times to restore the nand I made immediately after I downloaded the OTA and I don't know what is going on but it says restored and then when I reboot it's not that stock version, it's already back to Ineffabilis. I realize all things point to operator error but I've been making nands all along and have gone back to them with no problem and this doesn't make any sense! Ugh. All this rooting stuff was going so smoothly until now. I made that specifically so I could go back to stock + OTA that I had on my phone.
I don't know if I can start all over now since I'm already updated with the mainver. Guess I can try to use con247's ROM + OTA but there are no instructions for that.
I guess I need to go to sleep. Maybe do a factory reset tomorrow and try starting from scratch.

Take the boot.img out of the Ph98 file and flash it manually in fastboot .
wipe data/factory in recovery then in amon ra go to developer menu boot to bootloader.. take the boot.img you removed and either place it in the same folder as fastboot or if you have set the path for adb so you can run it from anywhere . Open up a CMD , change directory to the folder with fastboot and type fastboot flash boot boot.img
This will flash the wifi module for you without encountering the mainver issue.
Well it seems that flashing scrosler's newer mainver boot.img should have fixed it. Right now I'm restoring a nand. I made them correctly but wasn't thinking straight about what they were, so I think I was restoring the last Ineffabilis from before grabbing the OTA. I'm now restoring the last one I made that should be stock OTA. Then I'll check wifi on that.
Was going to edit out the whole part about my nands from my previous post since I realized I wasn't remembering correctly but now you've gone and quoted it and spoiled my plan. Aha! I see the HTC boot animations so now I've got it back to stock OTA. Drum roll...
and wifi is working!
So the wifi error has to do with restoring a nand of the custom ROM. Tomorrow I'll try flashing the ROM fresh instead and see if wifi remains, unless someone knows that this will not make a difference.
Thanks.

I had this issue and it's from restoring a nand of a stock updated rom after I was in a mainver loop. What I did was go back to a stock gb nand I made and wifi was fine. I took the OTA again and rerooted. I'm good now. Do you have a stock gb nand handy??

Mine's all good now as far as WiFi as mentioned above. Just have to find out if I can use Innefabilis with the OTA. Thanks.
I did find out that I was not actually rooted after the OTA as I thought I was so that could be what caused it. Root explorer worked and superuser was in my apps so I assumed... But when I went to use Tibu just now it said I didn't have root, so that could be what went wrong for me. Now that I'm sure of root I'm going to try to restore my Innef. Nand and see if it still breaks WiFi.
Hey OP! Have you got your WiFi working?

CONFIRMED: Flashing/restoring Ineffabilis breaks wifi.
Wifi is fine with just the OTA but I get the error after restoring a nand with Ineffabilis or flashing it from scratch again.

Argh. The one in the first post of the Ineff thread, stock rooted? Yes. Someone posted in the Ineff thread that they have wifi as well.
I have a feeling it's because I didn't lock before updating?... but I read others saying it wasn't necessary. Starting over. Again.
Well I did everything over again using con247's method. This time I locked and unlocked. So now I'm ready to put Ineffabilis back on.
Hag77... did you restore a nand or reflash it from scratch? And was the kernel you flashed the stock rooted one in the first post of that thread? And did you flash before as well as after getting Ineff back or just after? What is the version/date of your kernel now? Thanks.

Download OTA rom, and remove the ph98file from it. Place the OTA rom file on the root of the SD card with the Ph98img file removed. Now , open the Ph98 file on desktop and just pull out the file boot.img ( looks like a silver disc with a white background) Place that file into your fastboot folder that you used to unlock your device with.
Reboot phone to recovery, wipe data/factory reset. Once wiped, install the OTA rom zip .. after that is done installing, go to the main menu of recovery again and select developer menu. In developer menu choose reboot to bootloader. Once in hboot, plug phone into the computer and select fastboot.
It should say fastbootusb highlighted if properly connected and in fastboot.
P.S. you don't extract it, just drag it out of the ph98 and drop it into your fastboot folder
Now, got to the folder with fastboot and the boot.img image and open up a command prompt ...Make sure the command prompt is showing the folder your in as the path .. then just type fastboot flash boot boot.img.. this will send the boot.img kernel image to your phone.
Once, that is done reboot and you should now have the OTA installed with the proper kernel.

I went straight back to my nand backup of ineff- then flashed kernel with fastboot.. I never ever ever flash kernels w/ ph file- not that it can't be done successfully I've just seen too many people run into problems doing it. Flashing kernels w/ fastboot is the only way I trust and it's supereasy (although requires pc).. So to sum up- my path was
relock- ruu to scott's posted ruu
skip all setup on ruu and go straight to the update
reboot into updated phone once
pull battery- hboot- install amonra
restore nand
flash kernel
success

Are you double clicking on it. Might have to download a program called 7zip. It is a free program that will let you unzip folders. I double click on the folder and I am able to open it up, but I do have 7zip installed so maybe thats why.
The thing is that I am pure stock, just rooted. I went to recovery and recovered to my original and only back up, everything works now, but I am afraid that the update will self push and break it again.

Well easiest way to prevent that would be to flash a custom recovery , then the update will fail. Guess , I didn't realize you could back up with the stock recovery never tried it .
Unless your saying you don't want to Unlock at all, then I am not sure because the update will get pushed to a stock rom with stock recovery. Don't think there is anything you can do except alter some files I suppose , but just as easy to accept the update

Are ATT software updates safe for a rooted phone?

Earlier this week I bought a Samsung Galaxy S III for ATT. It already had Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 on it and so I rooted it. Well the day after rooting it I get a message in my notification bar that there's a new software update available from ATT. Am I safe to do this update since my phone is rooted? I doubt the update is anything major, but does that make a difference?

You can apply the update if you're rooted using the method in that thread or by installing OTA Rootkeeper before you apply the OTA. If you apply the OTA directly, you'll need to go back to stock recovery, then install CWM again when it's done. You'll also probably want to backup the Google Search widget (I forget the exact .apk -- search the forums) and restore it after to avoid losing Universal Search.
But the easiest way is to just flash the zip in the thread above through your CWM recovery.
As for the contents of the OTA: It updates the kernel, bootloader, lots of applications, some system libraries, wpa_supplicant and it's firmware (I think that's for wifi), and the modem. I've got it installed and didn't notice a huge difference, but you might. The thread above also includes separate flash files for the kernel and modem in case you want to try just those.
Good luck!

No. There's a zip file there with the OTA but with the bootloader and kernel updates removed. You can flash that to keep your kernel. There's another zip file there with just the bootloader if you want to update that, too. Just flash both (No Bootloader No Kernel, the Bootloader).

UPDATE:
okay so I followed the steps in the thread you provided, and when I go to flash the update zip in recovery mode, i get an error and it aborts the installation. Heres the error:

d2att"
E:Error in /emmc/I747UCALG1_OTA.zip
(status 0)
Installation aborted.
Any idea as to what this may mean?
I am also getting same error I was on team epics recovery then saw it wouldn't work for that recovery so I flashed a new recovery and still get the same error.
Tried flashing the no boot loader zip. And the no boot loader and no kernel zip

It means you're using the Team Epic recovery and not the one from clockworkmod.com. Try installing the 5.8.4.5 version of clockworkmod.com recovery from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28612095. That link has zip files you can flash from your current CWM recovery.

Oh I see. So should I just download that file and replace the CWM zip file thats already on my phone. Or do I have to do something in Odin again?

Download OTA Rootkeeper from the play store, save root, then install the OTA. Reboot and OTA rootkeeper restore root.

Download the zip file for recovery, apply it using your current recovery, reboot recovery from the advanced menu, then apply the OTA zip.
Or use OTA Rootkeeper as also suggested. I prefer my OTA zip personally, but either way will work.

Okay. Wow. So after a lot of trial and error (i think i bricked my phone somehow in the middle of everything, but its okay I found out how to fix it) I have managed to get that update applied. Theres one last problem though. I applied the update by flashing it in CWM recovery. I know I have the update installed because now under baseband version instead of saying I747UCLEM it says I747UCLG1. And Ive tested the google search widget and it's still giving me local search results so that's all good. The problem is that in my notification bar the ATT software update notification is still there. I have currently postponed it for 8 hours, but its still there and the only button I'm able to press is the continue button. I dont want to press this because im afraid the normal ATT update will install over the modded one and the google search widget will mess up and stop displaying the local search results. Also under about device, when I click software update the option for "check for update" is grayed out. Any thoughts on this?

What does it say under build number? IMM76D.I747UCALG1? If not, then somehow you only got the modem installed.
I have the update applied, but I had frozen AT&T Software Update in Titanium Backup, so I wasn't getting the notification. I just tried unfreezing it and checking for an update and was surprised when it said there was one! I postponed it, did a Wipe Data for AT&T Software Update in TiBu, then rebooted and now all is well. When I check for an update now it says I'm up-to-date. So try that.

Yeah, under build number it says IMM76D.I747UCALG1.
I'll give what you said a shot and see what happens. But one thing first, what's TiBu? And also, I'm about to flash a custom ROM on my phone, so is the update issue something that can wait, or should I take care of that before I put on a custom ROM?

Sorry, "TiBu" is my shorthand for Titanium Backup. Chances are any custom ROM you install will remove the AT&T Software Update application, so you won't need to worry about this anymore.

Oh okay. In that case I'll go ahead and put in that custom ROM and report back when everything is done. Again, thanks for the help and patience.
Okay, so I have applied the ROM and everything is good! Well for the most part. At times when there isn't a WiFi signal available and it has to use mobile data, the 4G LTE doesn't work. It will connect to HSPA or 3G. And it happens in areas I know has 4G LTE available. But other than that everything seems to be working good. Just thought I'd share in case anyone was thinking of using the AOKP ROM.

T6UL OTA 4.4.2 HtcSoundRecorder issue

I have a Singapore T6UL running on 4.3 S-OFF, Bootloader unlocked, rooted. When the 4.4.2 OTA came, I tried installing using the stock recovery. But it is complaining about HtcSoundRecorder.apk and Weixin.apk and abort the installation.Problem is HTCSoundRecorder is removed automatically when I unlocked the bootloader. Can anyone help to provide me with these 2 apk? :crying:

Do you have a screen shot for us ? that sounds pretty interesting to look at.
I have never heard of anything beibg removed with unlocking thr bootloader. It is possible unlocking the bootloader makes some apps not function properly (or even show up) but the apk should definitely still be there.
I tried using the HtcSoundRecorder.apk that pradeepvizz provides, Still same issue. Complaining about "\data\preload\HtcSoundRecorder.apk has unexpected contents Installation aborted" Tried with the apk extracted from a couple of roms in the dev section. Same issue,
The original doesn't have the "\data\preload" directory. So I thought that creating that directory and copying in the apk should work but it doesn't.
It seems that the \data\preload folder is removed after I unlocked the bootloader via htcdev...
Any ideas?
I am on software version: 1.23.707.1 Any kinds soul have the backup for this version? :highfive:

So I thought we had a preload partition vice the preload folder? Unless I am just thinking of my samsung devices. Cant look up the partitions right at this second but that would make sense to me (and why I thought nothing was deleted from system or data).
Trying to update from 1.23.707.1 to 2.61.707.1
Tried factory reset. Still doesn't bring back that folder for me...
Funny for HTC to remove those stuff after unlocking bootloader.

I don't think so. I didn't get any software update prompt except for the latest 4.2.2 update since I bought the Max on day 1 launch in Singapore.
Some options that I am thinking:
Option 1: Edit the ota update script to remove checks for sound recorder and weixin. This will make the zip to be unsigned and I am thinking whether this can be flashed using TWRP or CWM as stock recovery shouldn't allow it to be flashed due to unsigned package.
Option 2: Lock the bootloader. Factory reset. I am wondering if this can bring back to 100% stock state. I am from the Windows CE world and this works on CE as it will reload everything from the ROM image.

did you try to extract the apk from virtuous ROM? that was only the ROM which i remember to have these files. the Apk files that i had linked were collected it from various posts on XDA, so that could be something causing the mismatch
I am not sure if CWM/TWRP can flash a edited zip using "install update.zip" but i think you can do that via adb sideload in TWRP/CWM.
Do you have the OTA link or the file, can you please upload so that the experts here can use it / help you with it?

Yep. I tried with the apk from virtuous ROM having the same issue. I checked the sha-1 of 5 copies of the apk from different sources and none of them has the matching sha-1 that the update script is asking for.
Can you share what is the differences between flashing via adb sideload and "install update.zip"?

i understand your frustration, but i believe this is part of Google's security improvement in the OTA process.
i am not sure on the difference between adb sideload and update.zip, just did a little bit of Google and found that TWRP may work with the OTA - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2573565
Hope something works out.
I just extracted this apk from OTA_T6_UL_JB43_SENSE55_HTC_Europe_1.54.401.1-1.19.401.2_release_341451bchda87kitj44eh9.zip
This is the EURO OTA from 1.19 to 1.54, not sure if that will help you.
i checked the update-script on this OTA and it seemed to all good and should work with CWM / TWRP if all the executables are there..
Hope for the best!

Well, if you are able to find an RUU for your phone, that can be the only clean way to do it.
you can edit the script and removed the lines which specifies soundrecorder apk and then flash it with TWRP / CWM.

I was at 12 percent and the same thing happened to me lol. I'll just wait for the mirror.
Somehow, after 4 attempts at downloading, it worked and only took ~5 mins. everything appears to be in the zip file. I loaded the BK2 file (never got cell signal, and had a lot of strange things in settings) and am applying the update now. Hopefully this doesn't screw up anything. with the BK2 my settings showed custom for the status though, so not sure if I just screwed myself out of Knox stuff.

Looks like it's working, some things I noted:
I had a few strange apps in my service folder (BoA and some games)
Samsung connect was causing a bunch of force closures.
Even though I was on unlocked before this, I ended up on Verizon (my carrier).
Everything else seems normal, and had I done a wipe I'd probably be in even better shape. Might to a whole tomorrow.

Everything else seems normal, and had I done a wipe I'd probably be in even better shape. Might to a whole tomorrow.

Don't need odin for this, it's an OTA.
Just put it on your phone, and go to recovery mode and flash from update.zip or whatever.
