I recently picked up a refurbished tablet and dock combo from Ebay. It is supposedly "Manufacturer Refurbished / Like new. I'm noticing however, that it doesn't seem I was provided with the "standard" dock or at least the dock I'm assuming is the one that is supplied in the U.S. My first gripe is that the left shift key is split into two separate keys. So every time I try to capitalize a letter, I'm ALWAYS hitting the wrong key. I'm sure I'll adjust over time, but it is an annoyance. My second gripe is that there are all these "green" function keys on the pad and I have no idea how to get them to do ANYTHING. My gold standard of "just push all sorts of buttons" to see what happens is failing me.
Can anyone enlighten me on this keyboard / dock? How do I get these green function keys to do something? Do you think I should push back to see if I can get different dock?
Thanks!

You've got yourself a french keyboard, not usually sold in the US or in Australia (where I'm from) or any English speaking country. However, I personally like your layout more than the standard one!
To get the green function buttons working, I think you may have to change the input language/style (in the ASUS Keyboard settings) to French setting.

Has anyone used this Vitrual Keyboard (VKB) thing?
A friend of mine said he saw someone on the train using it and appeared to work rather well.
Has anyone here been in contact with it?

Ben
I have one of these - bought from Expansys. It works surprisingly well, but there are a few caveats:
You have to learn a new typing style - index fingers only, with the rest in a fist and thumbs tucked in - otherwise you get keystrokes you didn't expect.
It's not wireless, and the cable plugs into the base of the XDA2. With no stand and no landscape mode, this makes it very difficult see what you're typing.
It should ship with a USB cable to support charging & data, instead of needing a power brick. Given the ubiquity of USB ports on pretty much EVERYTHING, this is unforgivable.
All that said, it's still way cool - add it to the Xmas list...
Nice.
In this world of pure gadgetry, there is no room for those inferior beings without a VKB, so methinks I'll have to buy one.
Bosh.
Owners, help me please. I want to buy a BT Mouse. Some mice have extra (arrow) keys on the left side. Do they work for TFP? What functions do they have?
Thx 4 Ur answers
I have one of these bt mice with extra buttons on the left side working with my Prime. The extra buttons work as forward and back when browsing and when not browsing the back button works as a return button (bent arrow). I bought it via eBay from Hong Kong for very little money. It has full functionality and is quite small but feels a little plasticky.
Yeah, the arrow buttons are supported on my mouse too. IMO the most helpful addition is the scroll wheel, so make sure your mouse has that.
I bought my mouse at my local staples, so I'm guessing it's a pretty common mouse. I think it cost twenty bucks. It's a logitech M510, I would recommend one, I've had it nearly a year and haven't had to replace the batteries yet. If I were you, though, I'd just buy whichever BT mouse is the most comfortable to you, and keep the receipt - if it doesn't work on your prime, return it and try something else.

Bluetooth pairing can ask for a confirmation code. Since your mouse doesn't have a display or a number pad, we can safely assume the code is not user-configurable. The best advice I can provide is to check your mouse's manual. However, many manufacturers just use "0000" or "1234" as the code. Try those.

I would google the model name followed by "default bluetooth PIN" or something to that effect. If that doesn't work just google the brand followed by default pairing pen.
I was in a similar situation a while back on a computer and I knew the PIN but kept getting that error, turned out that the batteries were low and when I swapped them the PIN worked instantly. Doubt as yours is brand new that's the problem though but passing it on just in case.

I bought a dock for my TF101 on ebay. Really good deal, only problem is, it is missing two of the keys. I can still type on it, just when I go to type either a B or a M I have to stop and press the little button that the key would normally press. I have searched the web and the forums for a source of supply but have not had any luck. ASUS offered to sell me a new dock, but does not have the replacement keys.
Does anyone know where I can get the replacement keys?
Uhm, doubt you'll be able to find spare keys.
Your best option is probably to steal keys from another keyboard, if you can find one with same keys.
Or, you could do what I did on my laptop
Remove 2 not-commonly-used buttons and place them on B and M. Its not the prettiest solution, but atleast you'll be able to type full-speed.
I looked for some old keyboards at the house. So far not luck...I will look at the less used key solution. Didn't even consider that.
I have several Q1Us from when UMPCs were being produced and one of the accessories that i still get use from is the very slim usb keyboard that was meant to go into the portfolio case for these units.
I decided to try plugging it into the USB OTG adapter and found it works great! I especially like that when i have to resort to a physical keyboard, the trackpoint makes it so i can control the cursor without lifting my hands from the keys like i would need to control a mouse or touch the screen.
I have not been able to find a wireless keyboard skinnier than this thing with the added bonus of a built-in pointer. The model number is Samsung AA-SK0TKBD/US.
Any ideas on where to buy one of these?

Best bet will be eBay
yeah, i looked around and all the sources that sold them before say unavailable w/ no mention of stock replenishment (no surprise since it's so old now). Acid123 is right that you'll see them pop up on eBay every once in a while. When i stopped using my Q1U as much I'd still carry that keyboard around because it's so damn useful and slim.
Somebody would make some money if they just made a slim keyboard that had the same format w/ the pointing nub in the middle (i don't care if usb/bt). Would be nice if there was also the Android specific softkeys built-in like back/home/menu/search.
This one is worth mentioning. Mine has been sleeping for a while in a "PC reparing kit".
The original pouch can be useful -even if you own a larger tab- for many purposes, including travelling, and in a "crossed legs sofa position.
Customizing the original umpc craddle to make it less thick should be easy.
The KB is good but sometimes misses keys typing too fast. Hold a letter and it will display accentuation options depending on your layout.
The mini mouse is ok but can't be used for drawing for ex. Mine tends to change direction if i bend it too much. By reflex I still use the tabs touchscreen depending the situation.
Num/caps lock lits. Fn/volume+,-,mute works. copy/paste is a pleasure ctrl/c, v or x works. Esc key acts as "escape, for ex it can show off the screen KB.
USB connection won't draw battery as bluetooth so you won't bother keeping it conneted all day long on your desk.
Hey we found the same use for these! I also used it to fill in as a super portable kb/mouse combo in my pc repair kit.
Regrettably, I never picked up the portfolio case when I was using the Q1U. I notice you still have your trackpoint! Mine fell off and got lost at some point so i transferred the blue one that's currently on mine from another laptop.
Today I stopped by an ATT corporate store and picked up the Padfone X Mobile Dock / Keyboard for $99.00
Jumping right into the goods because I really dont need to give a lengthy explanation of how a bluetooth keyboard works
Pros:
1) Perfect compliment to the Padfone X, works perfect and has a a bunch of shortcut selections that replace what would be the f1 to f12 keys
2) Dedicated screenshot key, perfect for stealing those instagram/facebook meme's lol
3) Holds the pad snug and is not a pain to detatch
4) Charges rather quickly
5) Is software upgrade-able, at the moment there is little or no mention of firmware updates for the keyboard but you'll see in the cons why we will be seeing an update soon
6) Very easy to pair with the phone and works with other bluetooth enabled devices.
7) The touchpad is very accurate and the buttons click very nicely
8) Built to last, this is not cheaply made, the keyboard is very rugged and has an all aluminum housing. The LED light alerts you to whether the keyboard is pairing or if there is a change in the battery life.
Cons:
1) The keyboard is heavier than the tablet and phone, so carrying this around in your backpack or preferred carrying bag will be a bit of a workout
2) Does not come with a charger, yes you must switch out the charger from the tablet or phone once you are finished and plug in to recharge the keyboard. I would assume the keyboard has some kind of extended battery in conjunction with its metal housing that adds weight, but the aluminum does add weight
3) does not charge natively via QI wireless, it charges only via micro usb
4) does not connect to the Padfone X in any other way but bluetooth, so there is no way the Padfone X station could charge the keyboard directly.
5) Keyboard lag when using the navigational keys too fast, although a software update can fix this
6) The shortcuts using the trackpad are a small learning curve, but no shortcuts to swipe scroll up or down on pages
7) A keyboard that costs $99, well if you want to make your Padfone X experience complete you will get this, I would say wait for the price to go down but do get one if you can.
The keyboard only comes by itself with the standard Asus instructions. It would have been nice if they could have included a dual charger of some kind, Like the one pictured in the instructions that doesn't seem to exist at the moment
Remember that this device is brand new, and who knows what kind of updates and/or features could be given in due time. With the keyboard attached it is a weighty item. Portable it is but I would have not complained of manufacturing quality if they used the same materials for the keyboard as they did with the Screen dock and phone.
I am curious however as to why this keyboard is so heavy...who knows anyone have the courage to gut theirs?
On a scale of 1 to 10 overall i give this accessory a 7 in fairness. Perhaps if they could have integrated a QI charger to both power the phone and tablet dock it would be worth its weight.
Are you sure the keyboard can receive firmware updates?
On the underside of the keyboard is a label that reads H/W ver 2.0, S/W ver 1.0

The Bluetooth keyboard works with just about any android device once paired. However the function keys have variable effects depending on the device

Do you know many android games that leverage keyboards? I haven't seen any... Most are touchscreen.
In my (extremely) testing, I haven't had any problems with simultaneous key presses. I have had issue with the trackpad when typing (palms keep pressing it) - there's a button to disable the trackpad that I need to get accustom too using. The keyboard is also so narrow that they had to remove the ' " and the / ? buttons. They have instead moved those to the buttons immediately to their left which will let you access the symbols for ' " / ? by holding the function key down. REALLY hard to get used to.
Overall, it's a keyboard for when you're in a pinch, not for comfort.

Is that a Padfone 1 keyboard dock that you're using with Padfone S?? Or did I misunderstand?
Just wondering as I am a firm Padfone fan and I need to replace my PF2 (managed to drop it one too many times). The lack of a keyboard dock has been annoying me since I got the PF2 - and the idea that I could re-use my PF1 keyboard seems a good one for now.
Cheers

Ahhhh ok - well that at least makes more sense. Doesn't help me in the short term though I guess as those padfone X keyboards seem to be hard to get hold of.
What I really want is a transformer book V but it looks like that was never actually released.

I just grabbed a new one on eBay, cheaper than it was when it was introduced, but still really too expensive.
I love that it grabs on to the tablet and gives you a nice clam shell, but I cannot stress enough how incredibly heavy it makes it. I mean the tablet/phone combo was no lightweight to start with and the keyboard might weight more by itself. Compared to the Motorola Atrix keyboard I had been using it's a considerable weight jump. You may have to invest in a man-purse if you want to carry it around.
The track pad seemed a little sloppy/slow compared to the bluetooth mouse I had been using, but since you have the touch screen, I can excuse that.
