[Q]Updating ota thru custom rom - HTC Droid DNA

Will updating the ota thru a custom rom affect unlocked or s-off status? And can I flash back to a older ota rom with no issue?

I don't think you'll be able to complete the OTA process if you're on a custom Rom. But either way it won't change your s off or unlocked status.

That's correct the update will not install with a custom recovery or on a custom rom. Why do you want to do this? When you are unlocked and S-off there is no need for an OTA.
You can manually flash the radio and Kernel then run a rom base on the update. Or run the stock rooted rom

Ah, I guess I needed to ask if installing a custom rom based on the new ota would affect me but you answered that. Thank you

Yeah you're good man. You're biggest concern is making the kernel match the rom.

Stock rom and updates? will it work

my phone is rooted and i just put the stock rom on it (Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5_odex.zip) after having a different rom my question is when ICS update comes in 2 weeks (for sprint users in the usa) will the update work and be applied? or will i just get an error?
I believe you will also have to relock your bootloader and install the stock ruu which puts the stock recovery on.
I recommend that you wait until a dev comes out with a custom based off the ota. It will be more awesome.

That Sucks is there any way I could go back to stock stock so I can update threw HTC when released

NEVER EVER take an update when you are rooted. Every single guide to rooting tells you this.
There is no need to relock to take the update when it comes out. Just wait about an hour, and someone on here will have a flashable version of the stock rooted rom. Flash it like any other rom, simple as that, no need to worry about bricking.
Well I don't really care about it not being rooted any more

Just find the stock RUU for your phone.
Depending on whether your CDMA or GSM and what carrier.
It shouldn't be hard. Just use the search.
Then follow the instructions to flash it, make sure you have the stock HTC recovery and relock the bootloader.
Your phone will be stock!

Ah, no problem, you should be fine.
When flashing the stock RUU, if done properly, you should automatically get the stock recovery.

New update question

So I am running SuperChargedHatka rom and they just updated to the new ota. Ok my question is are we better off flashing back to stock. Relocking. Updating. Then unlocking again? Are there things in the update we can't get with custom roms?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Anyone? Is it more beneficial to go back to stock everything and accept the update then unlock again and install a custom ROM? Or is there no real benefit.

If you relock, stock, update then unlock and flash a rooted Rom, make sure it has the update in it or you will possibly flash the old rom files over the new..
Sent from my Droid DNA using Tapatalk 2...
You can't get the new radios or hboot just by flashing the ROM. So if you want them then you have to lock, run ruu, update, and unlock again. Kind of a pain but just the way it is right now. If you have the unlock bin you originally got from HTC it does make it a little easier.

Alright cool. That's what I was wondering. Too bad flashgui won't flash radios too

[Q] Downgrade from CM11 to rooted 4.3 rom

Hello all.
I am wanting to install a rooted 4.3 rom over top of my CM11 nightly. I just can't stand the bugs anymore. Is there anything I have to do besides flash the zip in cwm recovery and flash the firmware using Odin? And confirm this will not mess with my bootloader (ie lock it down)
Thanks a million!

i think it wont mess your bootloader, unless you take 4.3 directly from verizon OTA.
Done it a few times already. Flash away

DROID OTA

I'm working overseas and haven't found a way of getting the OTA for my unlocked Droid. I'm currently on 4.1.1 and Sense 4. I just need a custom ROM or Verizon's OTA

Can we flash this over stock rooted with twrp as a substitute for the OTA. Cuz if I wanna take the tradition OTA I would have to flash stock recovery take the OTA and then re root.

Don't dirty flash this one over stock. This is deodexed so it will screw things up. Been busy with getting the badseed Rom ready but I should have time to do an odexed version this weekend.

Awesome. Once its odexed I can dirty flash then?
Else I was just gonna wait for viper to update to 1.58 and flash that or worse comes to worse flash stick recovery and take the OTA but I know some have been having issues with that and the OTA would only get 40% done and fail because of some xml file differences

If you have a stock rom backup you should be able to take the OTA no problem. You just can't have anything modified in the system partition, if you do it will fail.
I just restored my untouched/unmodified stock backup and flash stock recovery and got the OTA from system updates.

I reflashed the stock recovery for the OTA, but my rom backup already had some of the bloat taken out, and other apps updated. For instance, when I tried to run the OTA is said that Kindle was not as expected, since the update was integrated into the system rom. Would I then have to wait for the odexed version of your stock version, and then have the OTA included anyway?

Shoot xposed framework had to be flashed from recovery since i still have write protection on and it needed to be a system app.

The word "firmware" is rather generalized and can apply to any type of program code flashed to a device. Don't feel dumb, because the term "firmware" is sometimes used on XDA interchangeably with the word ROM.
But their are other times when folks talk about "the firmware" (such as in posts 5 and 6 above) to mean "the other modules that are included in the 1.58 OTA aside from the ROM". I haven't looked at this particular firmware zip, but they can typically contain: hboot, kernel, radio, WiFi, media and possibly other modules.
These other modules are typically not needed to run a particular ROM. But it might be argued, if they cared enough to change them, there might be something in there worth installing.
Personally, I'm rarely in the practice up updating the firmware packages, and have only rarely seen it make much difference.
