Hi
i did a mistake by flashing my S3 and erased the IMEI. I have any backups from the efs folder.
Now the phone cant find the SimCard and cant connect to the GSM Network.
Is it possible to restore the IMEI by another software based solution?
Or ist my phone scrap?
Thx

Thx for the Information
Any idea how much it will cost?
$350
In fact you can restore your IMEI if you have one (f.e. it should be printed on box with your SGS3), my friend successfully restored his EFS by downloading filestructure and replacing some variables like imei, BT mac etc.
Search for QSTP to repair imei of the phone.

It is better to unroot, reset flash counter and send it in for IMEI re-programming.

Of course it's better but sometimes you can't send it for whatever reason .

He didn't try to unlock it did he??
You ever figure it out
I have the same problem. somebody please help me
I have the same problem as well, happens randomly on my vibrant. No service and imei null/null. flashing thru clockwork doesnt change it but odin fixes it temporarily.
I take it that nobody backed up their original EFS folder and files..
When rooting you had to back up your original EFS folder before trying to unlock your device!
EFS contains sensitive IMEI information.
I don't think you can recover the imei if you never backed it up to begin with.
So you might have null/null IMEI or even a fake IMEI 0000XXXX <-- something like that.

I did backup original EFS and restored as well. It shows my original IMEI but randomly my phone shows no service and my IMEI is reset to null/null. If I remove battery and reboot phone everything works fine until God knows when.

Have you backed up your EFS folder?
If not you need to flash back to stock and send it back to samsung for reflashing, because as far as I know the IMEI is in there and cant be restored without a backup.
No I did not back up the efs folder. Will there be any issues if I continue to use they phone with the generic
IMEI? Or should I send it back?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
One it may give network problems as IMEI is part of the handshake process with the network .
Two you may find it impossible to prove ownership of the phone
Three you may not be able to block it if stolen .
Four Some countries its illegal to alter the IMEI code .

Does the phone work, and make calls and send texts? If so it should be ok
But its technically illegal to change your IMEI in most country's.
I am surprised the generic IEMI isn't blocked on your carriers network
Also if your phone gets stolen or lost you wont be able to get it traced via IEMI or blocked.
how did you get generic imei to go on your sgs2 i hyave same problem flashed rom now having problems making calls ect ??

I think there is a way to restore your IMEI. Though you should know that it is unique to every phone and you can't just use another phone's backup. Check out this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1772741&page=5 I read it before, might help you.

Hello lads. I have really really big problem with my I9300. I upgraded jellybean from 4.1.2 to 4.3, everything works perfect, but one main problem appears, I can't call, and receive phone calls. My samsung says that i'm not registered on network. I tried to install modems I've rooted device, and nothing happens. Today I decided to downgrade 4.3 to my previous 4.1.2. And surprise surprise, same problem Not registered on network. By the way my IMEI is normal. What should I do next? Any advices? Thanks

Hi.
Check for your Serial Number.
Go to, Settings, More, About Device, Status.
If it's 0000. It's corrupted. Also check for Baseband sometimes it shows unknown.
You have corrupted your EFS.
Backup your current EFS before you do anything from this point forward. You can try using PhilZ CWM.
Best bet is try to flash latest 4.3 Rom using Odin.
I9300XWUGML4
Try to restart your phone.
Yes, my serial number is 000000...

Same problem here. In my case, the problem is slightly different. the phone was a XXEMG4 that i had to downgrade to unlock and consequently recover IMEI. After recover IMEI (I didn't make an efs backup…) i upgrade to 4.3 and can't register on network.
I've been making a lot of research on the subject and i understand i should made a backup of the efs, but i didn't…. My question now is:
Is there any possible way to restore the efs module in v2 permanently, so we can flash another rom without losing it ?
thats the 1.000.000£ question for me

Your efs is corrupt, patched modem may enable it to again be read but will have to be patched reach time you flash new firmware/modem.

Makes no sense, you can restore a backup at any time. If you've already corrupted efs without making a backup then things can only get worse if you don't start making backups before you flash.
Lads. Now my IMEI and serial looks alright, but there's still one but. Internet is working with my SIM card, but I still can't call and send messages. In status:
Network: Meteor
Mobile network type: UMTS
Service state: Out of service
Signal strength: -99 dBm 7 asu
What should I do now? By the way, I've tried to reset factory settings, restart couple of times, when I'm trying to register on network, device says me TRY LATER. Oh, and when I turning my phone on, and PIN shows, it saying that my SIM CARD IS LOCKED, EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY
Sim locked to network ask your vendor to unlock .
Hi,
I've a s4 mini which has the IMEI code broken..searched in Google for solving problem but I don't have a EMS folder backup.
Is there a method for change the IMEI with a new one or from another device that I don't use?

IMEI cannot be tampered. It is present on a read-only partition.
To recover imei just flash stock samsung firmware using odin.
Also make factory reset. Good luck.
In many Samsung phones IMEI can't be recovered cause EFS partition is broken or just wiped. If phone has IMEI 00000... maybe You can recover it by flashing stock using Odin but if Your IMEI is 0049... only devices like Z3x or Octoplus and other can recover it.

Altering IMEI is illegal in most countries therefore not allowed to be discussed on XDA
