My mom wants to get an iPhone, crazy! Could you guys give me reasons why she should get an android phone.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

Well, if she isn't a tech savy person and will be using her phone for basic use, then it's probably the best choice to get an iPhone. The learning curve is much greater for an Android device. I even have trouble explaining how to use an iTouch to my parents.
The iPhone is a good phone, but for me personally, I wanted something a bit more involved and customizable. It's all personal preference.

Androids rock
iPhone's seem too locked down to me there's no real way to personalize it (e.g.-themes) so every iPhone looks identical. Androids u can make your own unique setup that no-one else has. Someone correct me if i'm wrong but i don't even think u can even have widgets just change wallpapers on the iPhone.

That's funny, the guy has an atrix from ATT I think he's a lil lost just like his network. Tb rules the network lol. This is getting tense, I decided to keep my phone and live happily ever after the end. What was I thinking Droid eats Apple!!!

Ha ha my thoughts exactly. Honestly if you want a great battery and stability go with the Iphone 4, but if you want your phone to do more and are big on functionality and don't want to be tied down thunderbolt. Honestly thus far my TB is my favorite phone. Sure battery life isn't great, but I'm never really in a place I can't charge it...
i honestly love my TB. never really did like the iphone... can't really customize it to your likings, sure you can jailbreak it, but there's only so much that you can do to make it your "own." but to each their own.
I'd never buy a bitten apple...

Tried the iPhone briefly but it just didn't come close to the level of customization that the TB and other Android phones has... even for basic options like the GPS. For example, when I asked a friend if he could choose the type of GPS he wanted for Google Maps, he said no.

Simply put. No.
honestly I came from AT&T iPhone 3GS, I've had more network problems (no lte/3g), my GPS takes about 10 minutes to load, and the battery life sucks.
though I still love the thunderbolt. I'll probably go back to the iPhone 5 when that comes out (inb4 steve jobs controls you) the only thing I notice from jailbreaking iOS compared to rooting android is overclocking. Jailbreaking you can do EVERYTHING else. Full themes, boot logo, remove what you don't want, hell you can even run android on iPhone. Overclocking is the only thing android has on the iPhone.
It's personal opinion, this is a android fanboy site so they're gonna argue... I like both phones. I could have gotten the iPhone 4 but I got the thunderbolt, either way I would have been happy.
Oh P.S., please argue about my post half of you don't even run a *nix based system but are all about DROID OS, but use Windows. Use a real *nix based system then look at droid. Much different. Only people I give props to is CM7 team for developing from ASOP source.

Flash on iPhone = Frash
Widgets, notifications = can be done with jailbreak, i have both on my 3GS still
and not all people need those, the only thing you got me on is battery.. i haven't taken out or even used more then a gig on my sdcard, plus carrying around an sdcard seems annoying..
it's all personal opinion really... my thunderbolt is sick like i said i could have got the iphone 4, and i'm 100% happy with the purchase but neither one is the best, both have pro/cons.
and open source, unless your building your own arch systems don't bother throwing that out there, you're probably using windows...

Had iphones for the longest time, realized they suck. Being locked down is never fun and android lets me do what I want with the phone I spent my money on.
And as for the "Droid" for a nickname, no sir droid is a phone and android is the os.
I chose Android because Microsoft stopped working on Windows Mobile 6.5 (which was awesome).
It was the device I chose, the GS2, for the swapable battery and amazing camera. Android is what came with

I don't like being constrained. I was an early adopter of the g1, I broke a few and didn't have money to buy a new one. I got an iPhone 3g real cheap from att. I couldn't stand the constraints built into iOS. It made me insane that I couldn't change the wallpaper, this "feature" wasn't added to iOS until much later.
Not into being told how to use MY phone! Android for life!
I was also kind of disgusted with how apple conducts itself as a company and the pervasive culture of elitism in the iOS community didn't strike me as cool either.

This. 1000 times this.
The customization and community/developer support makes the possibilities endless for Android. iPhone has some great things but you still can't change the default look and feel of iOS. I get bored with looking at the same thing all the time.
Firstly, I've chosen the Android over iOS simply because Android OS is smarter as we all call smartphone. How is it smarter? We all know.
Secondly, variety of choices, more options.
Thirdly, it's cheaper.
And to OP, "Droid" and android are two different things. Droid as you capitalize the letter D, is a phone. Start using correct terminologies.
Switched to Android after WM 6.5 was declared dead. Didn't care for the backwards direction I saw WP7 heading.

This is hilarious.
I use Android because of the ability to do so much customizing without needing to void the warranty. I carried a myTouch 3G and iPhone3G at the same time for a number of months (almost a year). My iPhone icon grid looked like every other iPhone, but no two Android phone's home screens look the same.
I'm not cool enough for an iphone.

Tempting

I am really temped to replace my iPhone with this phone. I'm just afraid I'll regret all of the sync able stuff, the iMessage, FaceTime, and the complete stable iOS platform. Any advice?
with facetime, imessage is all apple only crap. you'll just have to get them to download tango so their apple software can be compatible with everyone else
You get 2 weeks to return the phone so why not give it a try

iOS is not more stable than android. That's a huge myth. There have been studies that have been dine that show iOS crashes more than android. The difference is android actually tells you when it crashes so you can find a solution. Apple tries to hide it from the user.

I've used both iOS and Android for a really long time.
I gave my iPhone 4S to my dad who barely speaks English because it's sooo basic. It's like a kids toys which is limited to the max. I never felt like I had a "machine" to play with. I felt like I had a flip phone which was only good for talking and texting. Even the web is very limited.
I'm not being biased. I really felt limited with the iPhone. (If you look at my Avi hard enough, you'll see the pic is taken with iPhone.)
The only things I miss about the iphone:
-Good front camera (the colors were better)
-imessage. (although there are 3rd party solutions, and group texting solutions, it was just easier)
All of these features and more are available in the LTEVO, and the LTEVO does it better... FAR better.
I'm not biased. If the iPhone was the best, I would own it, but it is not (given that the iPhone 5 is on the near horizon).
My wife owns the 4s, and it's more of a mobile problem, than a mobile solution, and my benchmark tests 1:1 show the LTEVO as the clear winner.

just dont rip anyone off in the process, duke
I went from the EVO to the 3d to the 4s and literally waited around for the LTE to come out not liking the 4s.
Essentially it comes down to what you like. As nonbiased as these guys/girls want to act they really aren't. No disrespect btw, you'll see my point in a sec.
You came to the LTE forum asking if you should change and why.....now go to the apple forum and ask this and see their "nonbiased" answers. Most of my friends have and love iPhones but they are also not tech junkies, I am. I liked the freedom Android gave me and missed it so I came back. I also liked the OS platform in Android and again the freedom to customize it at will to my specific taste. My Android doesn't look like anyone elses and theirs doesn't loom like anyone else's either. Apple you get different wallpaper lol.
Also, "jailbreaking" is very glitchy IMHO and way more trouble then what you really unlock. Android rooting actually gives you almost unlimited potential to the phone and a rooted Android phone with stock os IMHO is more stable then a jailbroken iPhone. It's also not reliant on a pc or program to reset or do stuff with. I've updated my Rom and stuff on my phone a ton of times and I can't remember the last time I hooked it into my pc. Freedom.
Notice I am saying Android and not LTE btw, just my opinion and experience. It just boils down to what you want to do with the phone. They both essentially do the exact same things. Same apps same calls same text ect...
For the record I still have my 4s, use it as a back up some times. I did like group messaging and the battery but I jailbroke it and battery sucked. Known issue. Plus these devs have gotten these roms to far surpass the iPhone battery no exaggeration.

If you dont like tinkering, stick with apple. If you want to learn and toy, go with a nexus.
That Depends
If you have everything Apple (Macbook, iPad, etc) stick with them. It will be far easier to sync everything (as Apple likes to make their products work together). If you don't have everything Apple, there are two choices... the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the LG Nexus 4. The Samsung is faster and better in almost every way, but if you want the stock android experience without root go with the Nexus.

Lol, I mean yes. Restrictive and small. But games and apps are more popular and big names like Disney and stuff like that, my daughter likes to play and not much of that is available on android.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
If you're not feeling the borders of restrictions due to your way of usage, then its just about the screensize. So if you want a way to use the apps, then go for an iPad Mini.
Gives you the best of both worlds.
Disney option for your daughter, and a good phone (XZU) for you.

There is nothing wrong or bad about the iPhone. It is the best out of the box solution for most people. No need to add apps or do more than minimal set up. It works and works well. Not for me though-I like big screen, customization, variety of apps and the ability to experiment. Android is less defined and more challenging-a tinge of excitement in an otherwise mundane landscape.
Android is more defined and less challenging than ever-it's losing its edge. With CyanogenMod going corporate, hopefully someone new will step into the captain's chair and boldly go where no one has gone before. We are talking Smart watches, Google glass, flexible phones and credit card phones that slip into your wallet. Maybe a phone implant with your hand as the dial pad? What about a phone you never touch? Sounds like something Steve Jobs would like to do. After all, Android fell from the Apple tree.

Urm, sorry, but android was only in beta in 2007, not released publicly until 2008, iOS was mainstream in 2007. And Eric Schmidt came from Apple. Just setting some facts straight.
I think for a child's needs, iPhone is a lot more suitable. Has better security and apps. But agree with above poster, get her an Ipad and keep the ZU for yourself!

Android was actually meant to power printers back in the days, and then they concentrated on making it into a smartphone OS - but with physical buttons like a good ol' Blackberry. Then when the iPhone got released, they scrapped all of that and went with the touchscreen experience. A smart move, but Android wasn't the first touch friendly OS.
But let's not make this thread into a flame thread. OP is curious and is thinking about jumping ship. I was an iPhone users before I got a Desire HD, and it was "fine". iOS is an okay OS for what it is, but I quickly grew tired of its restrictive nature. I jailbroke and what not, but let me tell you that things that isn't "native" to iOS ("widgets", and other springboard mods) ran like complete ****. If you want a simple and straight forward experience, then iOS is the perfect solution. I've recommended the iPhone to a lot of friends who only send SMS' and do simple things. If you're an advanced user that likes to modify and actually DO stuff with your device, it'll be hell on earth.
If you want a PHONE, get an iPhone. If you want a flexible DEVICE, keep the Ultra.

I dig apple products. I own pretty much every apple products, except for the iphone. I had the first gen up to 4s. I needed big screen phone because of poor vision..hence the Note1. But now im a much happier camper with zu.
Iphone5 for the ZU? Heck NO. 5s maybe.
I very like iPhone 5s hardware specs...it's sick....nothing to say.
To each of us their own... I'm quite happy with the Ultra, could be perfect if Sony fixes the SOD. Nevertheless I was playing with the 5S yesterday and it's silky smooth, couldn't avoid imagining it with a bigger screen... But that doesn't exist, so far there is no perfect device but at least we have plenty of options.
