[Q] [Xperia U] - Flashed Kernel and Rom but apparently not rooted!? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

I finally managed to flash Nemesis Kernel along with an ICS based Rom, my bootloader is unlocked and this whole time i presumed I was rooted. A few minutes ago I I wanted to download a root based app to change some governors however it turns out i'm not rooted..
Can I carry out the root process while using a custom kernel and rom or would I have to flash back to stock all over again, root and then flash everything back?

[Q] Lost root access and recovery after flashing with HYBROM 16

Rooted the phone using flashtool, then installed clockworkmod recovery using Xperia CWM-Auto. Flashed HYBROM 16, and then lost root access as well the recovery. Any Advice on how to get root acces back?
maybe u take a wrong step.
never heard such problem.
u should use custom kernel with root n cwm feature like rage kernel, x kernel, etc....
just try it again from beginning.
sent from my Walkman
Hybrom requires custom kernel, like X Kernel, Rage Kernel or Kernel by bbooff.
These kernels already include Recovery also.
And that ROM already has root access.

Yup..u should install custom kernel..
My advice go for bbooff kernel if u want to install Hybrom..
to check whether u have root access or not just check the superuser app in ur phone..

Help needed--Custom ROMs, Bootloader??

hi everybody!
I need an help. Sorry for my bad english, I'm only 16 and I'm Italian.
I have an Xperia Mini, it's my first android phone, so I'm not very good at android modding! I downgraded it from ICS (Official) to Gingerbread (4.0.2.A.0.42 build) and I rooted it. Then I installed ClockWorkMod recovery. I don't have an unlocked bootloader, but I want to flash a custom ROM based on gingerbread. If I flash it, can I go back to stock rom with CWM's restore function? And If I can't, can I use flashtool to flash it (I have the .ftf file that I flashed for downgrading)?
Thanks very much.
Welcome to our forum
You can flash a gingerbread custom rom for locked bootloader with cwm, but be sure it is for locked bootloader!
If you take a backup in cwm, with backup/restore -> backup before you install the custom rom, you can restore this backup to go back to stock. Flashing the stock ftf will also work, you have to decide if you want to restore or flash, but if you take the backup in cwm it will backup the whole firmware with all apps etc :good:
Thanks! :good:
But do I need to flash a custom kernel? Or can I keep the stock kernel?

For locked bootloader custom roms it's the stock kernel :good:
For unlocked bootloader roms you need to flash a custom kernel, but this is only possible on unlocked bootloader

but the description says..."it should work with any ICS kernel...I currently have this kernel...2.6.32.9-perf [email protected]#1
can I flash this ROM? And if my phone gets Briccked, can I repair it with CWM or it won't boot into recovery?
Sorry for my bad english :crying:

Normally it should work, but the problem is there's not specified if it is for locked or unlocked bootloader. It's stock based so it could work on locked, but it is recommend to flash a kernel. You could try it, but it could be you get a brick
When it's bricked, (mostly) you can't boot in recovery so you have to flash the stock rom with flashtool
Another little advice: If you install an ics custom rom on a gingerbread phone it could end in a brick. I had this when I was on locked bootloader, so I updated to ics (while keeping root, how to do this is in my rooting guide) and installed it again.
You can try an ics custom rom on your phone running gingerbread, just install it. But if it won't boot, flash the stock gingerbread rom and update it with root to ics
Ok. But before installing a rom, I have to do a full wipe, and wiping all will delete the CWM recovery?
I think I'll first upgrade to ICS officially. Can I use pc companion? or I have to flash the .ftf file of the stock 4.0.4 firmware with flashtool?

Read the instructions in the thread, generally you have to yes as it avoids any conflicts.

1.) make nandroid backup
2.) factory reset/wipe data
3.) wipe cache/partition
4.) format system
5.) wipe dalvik cache and battery stats.
6.) flash ROM
7.) flash supersu fix, there are lots of links out there just incase you have problems with root. this will solve your problem if u have locked BL
8.) if you lose CWM, you can use led deletes x-recovery tool to install cwm after you boot your rom
BUT TAKE NOTE THAT THERE ARE CERTAIN THINGS YOU MUST DO IN "SOME" Custom ROMS like Hasa(flashing lockscreen after 1st boot)
MAKE SURE TO READ THE THREAD's INSTRUCTIONS FIRST
Ok i read all the guides...now I'll update to ics and root it. Then I'll install a custom rom.

I tried, but it threw some error. I have a Mac...that's the problem. I somehow managed to flash a PA ROM...so at least my device is working.
Man, you are flashing kitkat kernel to lollipop rom, just don't, it won't boot, flash either .270 or .283 kernel or if you want a custom one, flash rockzul kernel.

¿How to enter in recovery mode?

After flashing the last german rom 6.0.1 with xperifirm, I am not able to enter the recovery mode. I followed all the tutorials, all possible combinations with the keys, all programs (with and without root), etc.
Any ideas?
As far as I know, you flashed with ftf rom, which wiped thoroughly custom recovery. You need to revert to 4.4 kitkat, root it, get custom recovery, than flash it with android 6.0, but only using flashable prerooted rom in zip file with custom recovery

Use build number 314. It is available on XperiFirm. Use XZDR .21 to install the Xperia Z Dual Recovery. It will temporarily root with TowelRoot to be able to installa the recovery. After the installation the phone will reboot; now you have 2 choices: Install the SuperSU .zip to keep root on KitKat or directly install a Marshmallow ROM

Working ROM for Samsung SM-T211????

I have tried numerous ROMS, but the only one, that worked was a prerooted original Samsung 4.1.2 ROM, that was fully loaded by Odin.
All other ROMS are stuck in the boot process.
I have done:
Install root - CWM or similar
Wiped
Install ROM
Any suggestions for a Kit-Kat ROM, that is debloated and working?

Go to this link and download stock 4.4 and flash it with odin. Then reflash twrp and then try the custom roms. I think that you still have JB bootloader. Need to upgrade to KK to get the bootloader.

Which firmware from your link or is it not an issue?
Anyway I tried one version, but CWM could not install it??

It reports not being able to "Update", so I guess it is an update - not an complete installation??

Doesn't matter I don't think. You have to flash that firmware with Odin and the device in download mode. Once it's finished you'll have stock 4.4 and the KK bootloader. Then reflash cwm with Odin, then use cwm to install the custom ROMs.
