Hi guys, first sorry for my bad english.
All began few days ago, charging speed become very very wierd like 0 to 100 % takes 10/12 hours...I do admit its not first time had this but iv repaired that with changing kernels but not this time.Thats the first issue.
Other issue is the battery life decreased rapidly. From 61% to 0 battery widget said it need arround 1:50h to deplete while IDLE.I mean i wouldnt ask for any guidence here if i wasnt able to figure it out by myself.
For all saying dw battery stats i did,and nothink major that other than Clock widget made some huge wake locks and kept device quite hot so i disable it.
First time all this occured was while i was using Buzz Launcher and tougth the drainage may come from it so i switched to Nova launcher.Im using Ultima rom currently with Siyah kernel, and i did try all kerneles with all possible settings and nothink either repaired the battery to go further than 5/6 hour lifetime or charing speed.
So tommorow or today idk ima go to visit the shop that bougth phone from and demand to change my charger from wich i know my first issue is from but i really am afraid if the battery isnt screwed also so to ask for change also.
Also iv done wipes/caches wipes everythink,Ussually helped before but not now.
MY question is can that baattery performance now sucks cause the terrible charging speed that is on now????I want be sure or see if someone had this problem.
Thanks
Given the number of kernels you've flashed I'd suggest going back to completely stock rom and kernel to test.
The original chargers are prone to failure and your battery is only guaranteed for six months, as this is a consumable item for regular replacement.
Also, questions go in the q&a section to reduce clutter in here.

Strange thing is though i get about 5 mins worth of usage before it drops the first line off the battery.. I get max of about 5 hours of heavy use before i need to recharge.. This normal for gs2?

I am using the stock ROM and not having any issues with the battery lasting less than a day. I had to make a few changes to the settings, but once tweaked I am really happy with it.
Normal for me... a day and a half of light to moderate use. Plenty of syncing every hour, lots of Wifi and GPS, never switch any radios off, lots of FM Radio, auto brightness.... blah blah.
KL1 + LPR baseband, stock rooted, bloat removed. No silly apps, no silly task killers, no battery defenders/benders/superchargers/tweaks or other nefarious idiocy
Im fully aware on how to search.. Wasnt asking for tips on battery life just generaly wondering if my stats was worse then the majority of users on here..
This forum is getting worse for big heads..
Anyways thanks for the input.. Will have to do some "searching" on how to optimise my battery.

For others ive attatched my battery stats for today.. Seems a little quick.. I also did a few tweaks to setting as suggested above. Hasnt made a difference.

You're phone is active most the time, rarely sleeps. If you compare with mine above, you notice that the activity is in short infrequent bursts. The screen being on takes a huge amount of power - it's a big screen. And OLED.
I would say considering the sheer amount of use you give it, it's doing rather well... NO comparable smartphone (except the Razr Maxx) will give you much different. It can't.
By the way. not sure why the battery falls off a cliff from around 30% in your pic - scary!
1st, the post was apparently originally posted in a different location, then got moved to the Q&A section by a moderator.
2nd, your screenshot has what looks like a LOT of screen on time. What are your display stats for screen on time? (hh:mm:ss) From my estimation just looking at the bar graph, it looks like you have over half, and nearly 2/3, if not 3/4 of your overall battery time with the screen on, and the phone being "awake". With your overall battery time being 7:16:39, from your screenshot, that's about 3.5 to 4 hours of screen on time? If you are constantly using the phone, or keeping the screen on, it logically follows that the battery will drain.
3rd, JJEgan's point was this: This entire forum is meant for developers. (the name of it is "XDA Developers", after all) Yes, there is a Q&A forum, but more and more, users who are not developers are posting all over the boards stuff like "why is my phone doing blah blah blah" on commonly answered questions, (which is a clear indication that they didn't look or search very hard for the answer, even if they say they did) or, even more offensive in my opinion, "upload XXXX file for me" without so much as a please.
Non-developers are welcome, obviously - heck, anyone can join. But more and more people completely disregard the forum rules, which are plainly posted for everyone to read at the very top of each forum section.
Ahh ok.. Sorry.
I joine the forum as i have a genuine interest in all things phones wise.. Wether that be cooking roms, mods tweaks etc etc.. I dont come on here on the sole basis of asking questions.. Every now and again somethings niggle me about my device so the best place for info surely is xda developers. Though i only use the app at the minuite to view posts i did'nt actually know where the search link was. Though now i do i will use it...
Anyways:
Yea i did notice that big drop on the end of the battery stats.. Thats happened a few times ive noticed.
Dont think ive seen anyone elses screenshots look like that.. Could it be a sign of a dying battery? Or just wrong stats.
Ive read that the battery stats clearing does nothing as the stats it shows is whats using the power n not actual battery level.
My phones only about 5 months old too so everything in it should be in as new condition.
Strange..

Almost 4 hours of screen on is about average, actually. And I can't tell; looks like you still have about 20% or so left on battery in those shots?
I had round about 20% yea. Heavy gaming today though.. No jobs to do
As long as its not too bad i can manage. But thanks alot for your input..
Really appreciated.
Sorry for the confusion mods as to where this was posted.. I will climb under my rock untill i manage to blow something up inside my device messing with it lol.

We can't help you without some more info. You have to provide logs of wakelocks at least. Or better yet do a complete wipe and not install ANY apps for at least 2 charge cycles. If you have bad drain without any apps installed or any sync taking place then its a bad battery or ROM issue
Then install apps ONE by ONE and let them setttle in and take note of wakelocks
None of this is new information and these steps documented hundreds of times. Please make the effort to search a little more next time before starting a new thread on a subject present in almost every other thread. You will get more help from posting in an existing thread than starting a new one, especially over something like battery drain. This point is also clearly stated in forum rules and most stickies

Hello, guys. My problem is this that when i go to bed my phone has 20-30% battery and i put it on charge and when i wake up it is on 40-50% and it doesn't want to move.It has been on charge around 7-8 hours. Then i have to plug it out and play a little bit to waste some of the battery and then to plug it back to charge to 100%.Do i have to change the firmware or what ?Thanks in advance.
Stock rom and kernel? If yes then try another charger and lead first.

Continues then wipe battery stats .
Drain battery to zero charge fully drain again and charge fully then use as normal .
That is purely to rule out any wrong reporting and start the battery recalibrating .

This will do nothing. This is the biggest misconception in regards to Android Battery that XDA has ever seen.
Example of battery stats:
Screen on = 2h 40m
WiFi on = 5h 33m
Why does anyone think wiping these back to 0 will help anything? Charging the phone to 100% wipes the battery stats anyway.

HERE WE GO AGAIN PURE IGNORANCE .
IT wipes the battery stats how many times does it have to be repeated BATTERY STATS WIPE
IF you actually read the post you would see it was an attempt to return all to zero nothing to do with battery stats calibrating phone .You can read Diane Hackborns post in that regard just as i did the day it was posted . So dont come that battery stats crap with me .
Just giving the OP a zero state to work from does not matter if its duplicated or not zero start from the beginning rules out one possible fault area as unlikely as it may be .

Wow. At first I thought you were just rude and unhelpful but you're actually unknowledgable too.
What % the overall battery level reads at has nothing to do with "battery stats". Whether any individual system is at 0 or not is completely irrelevant to overall %. The OP does not need a "zero state". Stats and calibration are not linked at all. It rules out NOTHING (except perhaps any level of knowledge you were hoping to trick the OP into thinking you had) Try reading Diane's post properly before flaming!

Well its got me beat with this battery thing too..
It either barely charges at 100-400 mA or the phone is using more power than that and so it effectively discharges slightly even though connected to wall charger.
You can cross these things off the list as things I have tried so far:
>tried other chargers and leads
>took battery out for a while and put back and restarted
>wiped battery stats several times
>did a backup and wiped system/factory reset
>inspected and cleaned mini usb socket on phone
>tried all the battery calibration and charging apps
>tried charging to 100% even with phone switched off but it never got there even after 24hrs
>with and without siyah kernel
>done lots of yelling and hair pulling / tantrums
By the behaviours I dont suspect a dead battery. It seams like the phone is only asking for a low charge rate from the charger for whatever reason.
Please offer any suggestions you think will help narrow this down. I use cm nightlies.
When did it last work? Do you have a nandroid you can restore too?
It could be hardware. I stability generated by a faulty USB port.
I would be tempted to return it to stock. Problem still exists, send for repair. If not, it was software

thank...no nandroid to go back to. hasnt charged properly for at least a month. so you are suggest flashing a stock rom and see if that fixes it?
You could try wipe + different stock based custom rom + stock kernel first.....
But ultimately if that failed (since you've tried everything else) then I would go fully stock next.

ok...would i be able to come back to CM afterwards if that works and keep the fix?
One step at a time. If it works we know its not hardware. What we don't know is what software / data is causing it.
Lets find out if it works first though.
Do take a nandroid backup first though

It's got to be hardware then. I would recommend full unroot, Triangle away, stock rom + send for warranty repair.
Am thinking about getting an S4 to replace my work phone and dropping my personal HTC DNA (since I only use a few minutes per month anyways). Issue is that it has to remain 100% stock due to the security application installed so I can't debloat/root/install new rom or anything.
For those that are still stock, what kind of actual battery life are you getting on average?
It depends on usage honestly. App x can cause more battery drain then app y. Location also presents another variable. During my work weeks when im not using/talking on it a whole lot I can go 48+ hours without a recharge. In short it gets pretty good battery life.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
I am stock (not by choice) and I male it through a normal day of not much use at work then heavy use at home for a few hours. Screen on time about 3 hours or around there and normally have about 40% left at night. Could easily make it 2 days.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
I think you should expect about 3 hours give or take of screen on time on non debloated stock rom, as for idle time, you should disable what you don't use and what the stock rom will let you disable and that should easily get you though a day on a single charge.

Hello to all,
after having a stock i9300 for 11 months (I never kept stock for such a long period of time) I decide to install a custom rom.
After reading a lot I noticed that the most popular rom for the S3 i9300 is the omega so I followed that route.
I intalled the latest 4.1.2 version yesterday and today I was surprised to noticed that the battery lasted less than 14 hours.
I did a clean installation wiping cache/delvik etc.
This performance is horrible compared to stock.
I could easily make a whole day regardless of usage.
1. Are all roms as bad?
2. Will a possible change of the kernel provide a solution is so which one?
Other than that the rom looks great with some added features from the 4.2.2 which look great and fresh.
But I can not accept the phone not easily go through a day.
I also noticed some issues with Skype (not the latest version as this did not work well even on stock).
thank you
p.s. I could not post to the omega rom due to the fact I am new here......

You are being judgmental.
I spend several days reading the forum and educating myself.
I did read in the omega topic that some people experience battery problems.
Some of them reported that a different kernel provides better battery life.
I did not notice though that after flashing a rom you need several cycles for the battery to be calibrated.
Furthermore, in most roms I read about there are several people (not all) complaining about battery life.
This is why I asked if all custom roms increase performance while decreasing the battery life.

I Agree, its totally out of order to treat a noob in that way, but unfortunately some members think they actually own the site and therefore have a god given right to speak to new members like **** because they have more thanks on their profile, This complex they suffer from is extremely infectious and has a specific name, its called delusions of grandeur ! There is no known treatment or cure !
After several days I noticed that the battery life is a bit better but nowhere near to the previous performance.
How long does it take to re calibrate itself?

I also used Omega once but the battery life was just like yours.
Try doing the following:
1. Download greenify, understand how it works and greenify your apps.
2. Install startup manager, disable useless apps.
3. Disable wifi settings such as "notify me for new networks". Also, while in sleep mode, make sure the option is set to never.
4. Put auto brightness on.
5. Disable sync.
You can go ahead and install a different kernel. Googy or Devil or siyah would be a great choise.
All of these should improve your battery life.
Thank you for your reply.
Out of curiosity why does this rom consumes more power since it does not over clock the cpu?

They are many factors that affecting your battery life.Everyone have different angle viewing things. So depend on them what a good battery life mean to them. You can try other rom though. I'm using foxhound 2.5 with googy max kernel. It bring a good perfomance for me. And you can try to buy a 3200mah battery for your S3 with original size xD It can last more longer. And try the comment above it should improve the battery alot.
well I always try not to leave wifi on when not in use and do not run programs that use battery resources. I do never use mobile data and gps is always off. I did install greenify but there was really nothing running on the background.
Still I am under the impression that the stock rom provides signifficantly better battery life.
So my question is why? (Only out of curiosity).
