Now I have got two questions: First, should I flash a ROM with xRecovery, or CWM? Second, what order do I need to wipe data, dalvik-cache, cache partition?

The recovery version doesn't really matter. For stock kernel both xrec and cwm are available (I recommend xrec), but the nAa custom kernels all have cwm preinstalled.
The order of wiping data, dalvik-cache and cache partition doesn't matter at all, pick whatever you want .

i prefer using CWM.. just go for CWM.. or use both?
wipe data, dalvik-cache, cache partition b4 and after flashing any custom rom once..
make sure u hv the correct kernel for the rom..

Hey guys, quick question. I am currently running CM7 on my V but it is to unstable for me, too many FC's and reboots. I would like to flash That Ain't Sense ROM, found here:
http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-all-things-root/312747-rom-theme-wait-aint-sense-4-6-2011-a.html
Under the directions, it says:
how to flash:
put gapps and rom on sdcard
wipe the hell out of your phone
flash both and reboot
enjoy

When it says, wipe the hell out of the phone, what specifically do I have to wipe, and at what time during the process? Since I am moving to an entirely new ROM, what do I need to wipe?
P.S. I am running thunderc recovery.
Data, cache, system, dalvik cache and something else i can't remember. If am i not wrong, ROMManager doesn't work on the V, so you can't switch back and forth freely, unless there is another method.

You wanna wipe before flashing a new ROM. I wipe data/cache, then Dalvik cache then flash ROM, then gapps file

Is that all I have to wipe? I made a nandroid backup but I just want to make sure I'm doing this right.

This should be in Q&A
That's all I wipe. Wiping everything won't hurt though. Just don't do a factory reset through the settings with the phone booted up. Do it through the recovery.

Hi, i decided that i wanted to unroot my phone. I just flashed my stock kernel and CWM and Superuser are still there to my surprise, i tried doing this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719 but i do not have an external SD card to put the files onto. I'm just worried incase i need to take it into Samsung for some reason. Thanks:good:
Did you do a full wipe? And wipe dalvic cache! Then try again to flash the official ics firmware.

I don't have CWM anymore and yes, i did a full wipe i also have stock 4.0.4
I want to try different modems. As far as I know, the modem file (zip file) can be flashed in CWM recovery mode.
Do I have to do something else after apply the zip update in CWM? For example, factory reset?

No? If it just says flash in cwm just flash it why would you have to factory reset?

You don't hit update zip. U hit flash zip, either from internal or external sd card . It's considered good practice to wipe the cache when flashing a different modem if I'm not mistaken.

Try to update cmw recovery to the latest one. Just update it threw rom manager and make sure you pick the right phone and carrier in the list.
I tried doing so,bur i only get like 7 phones from that list

You'll need to flash CM9 first, then the options will show up. Its looking for a specific name in your build.prop, and CM9 or AOKP should get it to show up.
Tried doing cm9 does not work also

after you flash CWM recovery.
did you wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache?
wiping those before flashing new rom usually solve the problem.
i usually wipe data/factory reset too but doesn't require
i suggest you back up your un-corrupted efs folder contain your IMEI first before you flash anything.
dont be like me. =)

Extract the kernel (boot.img) from the rom.zip
Flash it via fastboot mode
Goto cwm, & wipe everything
Flash the rom
Reboot

A clean wipe always includes
Format system
Format data
Format cache
Wipe data
Wipe cache
Wipe Dalvik cache
And you may install any Rom provided you use right kernel
