[Q] Flashing and Freezing Apps Problems - Rooted Newbie Question - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hi guys, this my first thread as newbie dummie, a very new user in rooted user.
Sorry if my English is no good.. Well I have several question for flashing and freezing apps.
I'm using Motorola RAZR MAXX with Stock 4.0.4 rooted (with EternityProject) Retail ASIA (Indonesian)
I'm curious when freezed Motorola Services (with App Quarantine) it's keep running in background when i check with OS Monitor.

I've checked with ROM ToolBox Pro with Advanced Freeze feature, Motorola Services has a bloated handlers which is I think to keep the process alive. Is it safe to total freeze..?
As a Newbie (just said I dumb newbie hahahaha...) I'm just worried to disable the critical system app. Even according to this thread below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176346,
([MOD ROM] [DeBlur - DeBloat] Motorola Razr XT910 - Remove unnecessary Apps & services)
marked as green to freeze but I didn't see Motorola Services in there. Most of them is already freezed in my phone.
And secondly about flashing, I wanna flashing my XT910 but as a newbie there's A LOT question as you will know already right. Well after I look around finding the replacement ROM for my Stock ROM (even I didn't plan to delete my Stock ROM, just a backup ROM in case the custom ROM gone wild or crashed). I've found Avatar ROM and MIUI ROM is my candidate according to user feedback and video demo on YouTube also built-in features. And my question is about partitioning with BMM in ROM slots.
If I wanna activate a 2nd slot for my Custom ROM, is the Stock ROM usage partition will be affected with BMM 2nd slot partitioning..? Well I kinda unclear about dual-boot system in Android, is it just same with we do in PC (Windows and Linux for example) common paralel multi-boot system or something else..? Still can't find a tutorial for a very newbie user, even I already understand the major step.
UPDATE 3rd question
I didn't know in 2.3 Gingerbread because I instantly update to 4.0 ICS hours after buy this RAZR MAXX, everytime I install and remove apps the system is feel lag so much. CPU Widget shown 90%-100% CPU usage for about 10 seconds or more, I can't do anything after that. Is there somekind bug or because I didn't do Factory Reset after / before update to ICS..? Right now the lag is kinda feel better (maybe 50% lag less) after I freeze major useless system app and cleaning Dalvik Cache with Titanium Backup. Anyone feel the same..?
Maybe that's all in my head right now, as a newbie dummie hahahaha...
As newbie and RAZR is my only phone, I just don't want to messed up with.
Thanks a lot...

Sorry, I can't answer your first question. Because i have never remove an app or services from a Stock ROM, Other than that, i don't have this phone anymore. But I can help with your second question
Yes, it is just like dual-booting Linux-Windows. The Stock ROM partition will not affected by 2nd partition, you can choose ROM slot you want to boot when you reboot your phone.

well I didn't plan to remove the system app, just lockdown (complete freezed) prevent running in the background. Motorola Services kinda battery hog everytime. Kinda shock after I relized Motorola RAZR has 40+ bloatware installed (damn...!!!)
I've added 3rd question, just remembered now, forgot to ask in the first post.
Thanks for the answer dude, I will try it now...

Try to update it to 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. It had just released few months ago. You can always fastboot back to Stock ROM using RSD Lite if you have bricked / messed up your phone.

okey.. thanks again bro... I will try Avatar ROM...

okey this is maybe a silly question, even right now still not flashing Avatar ROM or MIUI for my XT910 MAXX..
after look and read all of the coresponding thread of each ROM, I saw the 2nd partition (or 2nd slot) is the WebTop partition for the XT910 (am I right..?)
and if I wanna flashing custom ROM to the 2nd slot, even I already backed up.. May I destroy the dependencies between WebTop and my Stock ROM..? And until now I still didn't know is Avatar ROM or MIUI can be flashed to the 3rd slot using BMM, most of users using Safestrap and using 1st slot (that's mean the Stock ROM is replaced with Custom ROM right..?), well I prefer dual-boot system.
I'm just being dummie here, really scared to flash if I bricked my only phone because this is my only phone to work and being connected to all my mate. All I want is stable ROM and long life development. Stock ROM from Motorola is so horrible, countless lag, bunch of useless bloatwares and everything you hate for an Stock ROM.
More question may came after this...

Hi ,
Please excuse me because I'm n00b at Android hacking and I just need to understand many mysterious things , please help if you can .
My Battery drains despite I bought the phone days ago ! So I decided to install a new ROM and it should solve many problems including the battery one now I have some question :
1. Why installing a new rom must completely WIPE all data/apps/media ! for a phone the GS2 the internal storage is everything , so what to do ! how to backup all apps and their data , camera photos , songs and videos , and why to suffer all that to just install a new rom ??!
2. How to root the phone so I can install a new ROM ? in the CF-Root thread there is no rooted kernel fits my model ( JPKH1 2.3.3 Middle Eastern )
3. Google uses CSC to push updates ( through Samsung ) and uses SIM to determine the Market ( then redirects me to a rubbish Egyptian one which have 10% of the US market apps ) , why is that ? I didn't even get the new market till now.
4. Which ROM to choose ? please don't say "It's up to you " there are tons of them and they look all great, that's another confusing thing .
5. If rooting voids your warranty, and you need to be rooted to use Nandroid to fully backup stock ROM so you can go back to it and use Warrenty ! how come ?
6. Camera is rubbish when talking about Night Recording , even using Full HD recording results a crappy videos , My Ex-iPhone 4 was much better wth only 5MB and 720p only, it has no auto-focus too.
7. Why does google keeps some apps on their market that's labeled "Requires Root" ( MarketEnabler and others )
I hope you 'll help me to understand all this hacking process because I just moved from iPhone
Thanks in Advance
Before posting use search button
1. Use some backup software (I personally use Titanium Backup donate to backup my apps and settings, and MyBackup Pro for sms and call logs)
If you can find a way to install ROMs without wiping ur current stock Rom and data let us know otherwise stop complaining
2. Learn how to use search button
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1246131
3. Stop complaining
4. Read user reviews for each Rom, if you are so lazy go and buy a nokia phone
5. You can restore your Stock Rom anytime you want (Actually READ the link i gave you and thank the OP)
6. You know what go and get you iPhone 4 back and stop complaining, there is plenty of apps in Andoid market but i guess you are so lazy to search even for an app
7. Man Rooting allows to some app to unleash it full potential
I hope it was a helpful reply, and btw i got my SGS II 4 days ago, i had an X10 before, pretty decent device, retired now
So welcome to Android, Apple fanboy

My Battery drains despite I bought the phone days ago ! So I decided to install a new ROM and it should solve many problems including the battery one now I have some question :
Completely wrong .
1. Why installing a new rom must completely WIPE all data/apps/media ! for a phone the GS2 the internal storage is everything , so what to do ! how to backup all apps and their data , camera photos , songs and videos , and why to suffer all that to just install a new rom ??!
Dont install the rom its your choice . If you bothered to read up you would have backed up first .
2. How to root the phone so I can install a new ROM ? in the CF-Root thread there is no rooted kernel fits my model ( JPKH1 2.3.3 Middle Eastern )
You do not root to install a new rom .
Root + CWM .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Read the section regarding versions in the basic instructions ,
3. Google uses CSC to push updates ( through Samsung )
and uses SIM to determine the Market ( then redirects me to a rubbish Egyptian one which have 10% of the US market apps ) , why is that ? I didn't even get the new market till now.
Thats nonsense .Your update is determined by your product code .
4. Which ROM to choose ? please don't say "It's up to you " there are tons of them and they look all great, that's another confusing thing .
Its up to you but you could read the hundreds of what rom to choose posts ,
5. If rooting voids your warranty, and you need to be rooted to use Nandroid to fully backup stock ROM so you can go back to it and use Warrenty ! how come ?
Rooting voids your warranty as does custom roms Samsung rules .
6. Camera is rubbish when talking about Night Recording , even using Full HD recording results a crappy videos , My Ex-iPhone 4 was much better wth only 5MB and 720p only, it has no auto-focus too.
Complain to Samsung .
7. Why does google keeps some apps on their market that's labeled "Requires Root" ( MarketEnabler and others )
They wont work without root market is not a locked down Apple product free choice rules .
I hope you 'll help me to understand all this hacking process because I just moved from iPhone
GO Back .

Hi, sounds like to me your not ready to start flashing roms and rooting.
First get used to your new device and read some more on these forums. Then maybe in a couple of months if you still want to flash a custom rom, when your more familiar with android, choose a rom and flash away. If your not happy with the rom you choose you can always flash another.
As for the battery drain problem, maybe you have install an app that is causing the problem? Or maybe you have installed many apps the require a lot of data connections? I'm not sure how long you're battery is lasting and if it is normal but it does depend a lot on how you use your device and how you have it setup to your needs.
Anyway, welcome to android and I hope in time after some basic research you will be happy with your device.
I recommend the OP and any newbie searches and reads the forum extensively, that is what i done when i first joined XDA and flashed my first WINMO ROM when the flash was successful without any hiccups i felt more confident to play around a bit more, it's all about reading up and educating yourself on here and in no time you'll be flying.

Well, that's just the way some android users are. Like Apple fanboys but then for android.
If they found out themselves, they demand it from others as well because they are the only standard according to themselves.
If you mention some feature of an iPhone, they see you as an evil dragon and try to slay you publicly to win some applause from their likeminded buddies, it gives then happy feelings at night.
If you ask a n00b question, you will be fried, because they were never n00bs. Their DNA is written in Java-code. Yours is not and you should be punished for that.
I guess all the flashing morphed their brain into binary thinking as well. You are either a fellow angel in Paradise S2™ or the devil, there is no in between. Just ignore it or flame back if you have no life as well.
To get your answers, wait for a helpful reply, spend a considerable amount of time searching or go the trial-and-error way. Your pick. Good luck.

Hello my friend,
I am new to all of this myself, but I will try and help you out as best I can.
1. I believe that you need to wip and clear everything so that the ROM works well, without any force closes and boot loops. I highly recommend wiping everything before installing a new rom.
I use titanium to backup everything. It works very well.
2. I believe CF-root does have a KH1 kernel. It is the easiest way to root. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AND FOLLOW EVERYTHING TO THE LETTER.
3. Don’t know. (perhaps its your carrier who is delaying the update???)
4. I am currently using Batista rom, it works very well. I will try MIUI and Cyanogen when they are out of beta. Im sure there are other roms that other prefer but for the moment im sticking with Batista.
5. From what I have understood, even after a NANDROID backup there is some sort of a ROM counter that can tell that you have flashed a different ROM. But I believe that, this can be reset using a JIG (I recommend buying a USB Jig, to me, it’s the easiest way to remove the yellow triangle)
6. I don’t know, I honestly love the cam and the 1080 vid recording.
7. Because google is OPEN? As long as its not a virus or anything I guess you can put up what every you want.
I recommend doing a NANDROID and titanium backup before flashing a new ROM.
Hope all of this helps. If I am not correct, could someone please correct me, I myself am new to android flashing. I had a htc legend before, I tried to root the bloody thing, but I have never succeeded HTC locked it down like hell, it’s for that reason that I own a GS2 and not a sensation (I realize that some people have easily rooted the legend, but I have never managed).
Wow, a lot of rude replies in here. Would have thought the android community would welcome a new member.
I hope you 'll help me to understand all this hacking process because I just moved from iPhone
Thanks in Advance
1- if your a noob (like me ) then don't flash a rom just flash cf-root kernel and get your root privileges without wiping.
2- First. if you had read the CF-Root Thread you would have come across this paragraph and you wouldn't have asked this question:
Chainfire said:
The XX and OXA identifiers are not that important. Usually a "KG1" kernel is a "KG1" kernel, and that is that. Sometimes (pretty rare) it happens there will be multiple different kernels with the same name in different firmwares, that are actually different. If this happens, they are usually only very minor changes and you should expect them to still be fully compatible. I include the "XX" and "OXA" identifiers so the very advanced users can deduce from which full firmware I have taken the kernel file.
Don't worry too much, just find the matching download and use it. What if there is no matching download ? You can ask me to make one, but I can tell you right now, I very very rarely make CF-Root's for kernels on request, unless it is the very latest kernel that has been released by Samsung. In the latter case, be sure to let me know. If there's no match and I'm not making one, try finding the closest match. You should treat "KG1" as a number, but instead of 1-9, we have 1-9, A-Z (where A would be 10, and Z would be 35). "KG2" is really close to "KG1", "KF1" is not close to "KG1" at all. I hope that makes sense.

3- use market enabler. and for the market app go to the android apps forum in xda and look for a thread about android market 3.1.3 download. i am in the same situation here but market enabler while choosing an American network works.
4- STAY ON STOCK. not that many roms are stable which means that you will have to wipe your phone a lot until one day the super ultra stable rom is out. plus if you want extra functionality you can try go launcher ex (the one im using) or any other launcher.
ps: you also get official updates from Samsung if you stay on the stock rom which is a big plus (no wipez).
5- dont worry, here in the arab countries they're not that strict on checking if you had rooted your device before or not. if you need to use your warranty you can just search for the steps to reseting the counter for the number of unsecure kernels that have been flashed.
6-if you like the Iphones camera better. Then get an iphone.... really no advice to give here. sorry..
7- Google (unlike apple) is not anti hacking. its your choice if you want to get root access to your device or not. and they dont encourage you or discourage you from that.
my advice to you is to root your phone (CF-root) and then install anttek app manager or titanium backup (i like the first's gui better) and freeze any app that you dont need.
also you can check out the app "screen filter" which you can use to dim your display so that it doesn't use that much battery.
also after you root use nofrills cpu control or setcpu and set the max cpu clock frequency to 800 and the govenor to conservative. change it back to 1.2 ghz and ondemand when you need to play an hd game or something like that.

Thanks a lot for your reply, it was really helpful , however the reason I asked about the camera is the 3rd party apps, as example iPhone 4 have an app called Camera+ ( AVailable in the App store ) that take even more better shots than original Camera.app

This is XDA Developers, not an Android community.
The title implies you have a grasp of what is Android and I say this in a friendly manner... there are zillions of threads where everything is explained very well, just take the time to read everything. After one week of reading you will have all your answers in hand.

Rom 2.3.6 for (yp-g70) via odin3

I come to bring you the newest firmware for samsung galaxy s wifi 5.0 (yp-G70)
version 2.3.6 released in the East fits perfectly in the other the rest of the world, but if you have a (gb-70) (yp-g1) or similar other than the yp-G70, do not try this, this is a version released by samsung only eastward but I think that soon will also be arriving here via kies

Is this rom non-wipe?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Does anyone know what changes or enhancements have been made with this rom version? Have they added the froyo-only audio features back into the music player? Performance enhancements? Bug fixes?
Do not flash this guys, I did and lost my capacitive buttons and it took me quite a while of searching to find a solution. But in the process I bricked my Player and I had to use Adam's bootloader recovery guide in combination with files from samfirmware.com to finally get my player back to normal again, but this is not something a new user can do.
So be very careful!!!

The US version is different from the rest of the world. Don't put roms intended for other regions on it, and vice versa. You should always do a bit of research before installing new roms, carefulness is indeed required!

I knew it would be different, but did not think it would disable the soft buttons.
I am just one of the many flash aholics here and could not resist LOL!!!!.
Good thing my experience flashing my phones and Adam's recovery guide and also some help on the samfimware.com forums helped me recover the player.
I also read that the 2.3.6 update fixes the zergrush exploit so using Super One Click to root it won't work.
so...have anyone (with yp-g70) tried pushing this? if so, did lose root access or having issues after?

Actually you probably should make it more clear as the Galaxy PLayers are still yp-g70. Per Samsungs website here, the Galaxy Player is a YP-G70.
I think we need to start designating whether ROMs are for the version with or without the capacitive/soft home key.

Well I do have the YP-G70 US version, it must be the fact the the rom is designed for the Korean YP-G70. Anyways I got mine working back to normal.
Just a question: for those of us that are rooted, is Odin/Heimdall the only way to get this update short of unrooting? Last I heard, Samsung Kies doesn't work too well (read, not at all) with rooted devices. Thanks.
Yes, you will lose root, but you can do it again with SuperOneClick. I installed this rom, but my camera and music player are not working.
I flashed this rom on my UK YP-G70 previously on 2.2.3 Froyo followed OP instructions. Everything went smoothly did a factory reset and wipe cache in recovery after flashing and everything works well including camera and music app. Market is missing though so I shall try find the latest market apk and see if I can install it.

Do not flash this, I was able to install the market, but I soon realised this firmware doesn't have the option to add a Google account and all Google applications are missing. I believe this ROM is for the China region hence a lot of option have been removed and is not suitable for other regions. Its a great shame because the ROM was very fast and battery life excellent. I am now going to flash 2.3.5

[Q] Just rooted my XT912, Now what's next?

I know that every method works for each version of your android system, I rooted my phone, I guess the next step is to install the boot Menu Manager, I am new @ motorola phones, I come from Samsung Droid Charge, I would like to install a fully working debloated rom, I currently have the latest update 4.1.2.
I am lost, but I know I have root, I just checked with root checker.
Please help me !!
Hi. Go to your browser and install safestrap 3.11. After that, just find a ROM and follow instructions. There's a guy named Tom on YouTube who has some good 'how-to' videos. Don't use ROM manager or ROM toolbox. They arent very reliable or up to date. Titanium backup is a good purchase that helps. Have fun and whatever you do, keep and backup your stock ROM!

D-WIZ can satisfy your requirement.Stable, smooth, best battery life,no bugs.
My english is bad....Or even worse than bad....

you just check out droidrzr.com they are dedicated to xt 912 cdma and have lots of good support and live chat support as well. incase nobody helps you here
Is ROM Toolbox still a good/safe app for debloating my stock ROM?
I came from an HTC Thunderbolt and this phone is already very different.
Also, does anyone know of an EXTREMELY STABLE ROM that is 4.2.2 Jelly Bean for this XT912?
i wouldnt suggest using rom tool box. motorola have locked bootloaders things are done differently with them while samsung and htc and others have unlocked bootloader. this is where motorola gets tricky the website i referred to you have an active chat and lots of good support if you post there. somebody will respond to you fast.
razr is kind of dead in forums because of how difficult motorola is development. it really is painful.

I kinda figured it was.
Having to use the Smart Actions app during the root process is what made me think... wtf? Lol.
Check out the CM 10.1 and Avatar ROMs is you are going for a Jelly Bean rom. So far i have liked them. FYI, i just rooted my razr a few weeks ago as well. I am loving it.

[Q] Where to download stock ROMs

hello people,
i do not know anything about phones ..i am not savvy at all.
i just bought a galaxy s2 (sph-d-710) and want to WIPE AND DELETE everything and do a CLEAN install of a STOCK ROM of Android 4.2 or 4.3. (sorry for the CAPS, but it seems that in my last post people did not see the keyword STOCK.
~~(when I say "stock" ROM i mean just the basic factory operating system that would come with a device bought in the store)
i dont' care which one.
I don't need to restore or back up anything. i just want a stock ROM.
So where can I find an official stock ROM for this device?
I just want to do a clean install just like one would with a laptop...wiping the hard drive and installing a fresh copy of Windows.
I searched for days on google for this topic but it seems like everyone has to be cool and do a custom ROM and nobody knows anything about factory stock ROMs.
Please anyone know where to download an official stock ROM
thanks

[Q] help needed!

Hello everyone! I have been flashing roms and browsing xda for a few years now. I began with the legendary htc hd2. It was quite easy, as far as I remember, never asked for help. Found out about the bad blocks in Nand a bit too late though... Then I bought a RAZR maxx, immediately flashed FTS rom in bmm and didn't do anything for about a year. Now here I am, a complete Motorola noob Every time I do something, it doesn't go right. After a lot of frustration and nail biting, I have stock EU JB on stock system, liquidsmooth 2.9 on slot3, SS 3.11 and many questions...
I want to update safestrap to be able to flash JBX kernel. Just those 2 things. Is it possible without messing with slots, roms and will it work at all?
