rooting do not affect kies recognition of phone as i had it rooted and updated to newer version
Kies is pretty crap, and will brick you a lot when you update through it

Hi
Seen plenty of threads about updates with kies after rooting, but what about after installing Clockwork mod recovery (still got original rom). Can I use the update process on the phone found in options and the process when connected to a pc and using samsung kies. and if not how to I get the original one back?
Thanks in advance.
Peter.
Yes, as long as you keep a stock rom for your phone region
You will lose root when you accept OTA updates or update via KIES.

I'm gonna flash JetMod (custom rom) on my S Advance.. now I've got a doubt.. Will KIES and KIES Air work -- or does this 2 only work with the Stock ROM..?

Any way to use it on a Custom ROM..?
Good evening all ..... I updated my s2 using kies update has gone well, now on 4.0.3
but now i do not have SU access :/ really confused to why this is any help?
Hello haven't used kies for ages now but if you've upgraded on their you have probably downloaded and installed a whole new rom thus you have lost root access. Look up on the forum the best way to root your current rom. All the best.

kies installs stock rooms with the kernals, you need to reroot your phone or use a rooted kernal like siyah which will root your phone.

Hey,
What's happened is now you've upgraded you have stock kernel without root access. Simply flash a custom kernel or CF-Root kernel and you'll have root access again

I rooted my Galaxy S3 the other day with the intention of installing one of the JB rom's out there. I thought as my S3 was not locked that the official JB update would be a little way off yet. Yesterday I find the official JB being pushed to my phone. It went through the update process and then said it could not update because my phone had been modified. I checked the rom version and it is now 4.1.1 so it seems to have actually updated everything apart from the interface which is still ICS.
Is there a way to get around this? If I do a factory reset will that wipe the root? Or can I do something to hide the root from the update?
All advice much appreciated.

Thanks for that. didn't realise the interfaces were the same. Was expecting a bit of a facelift but then I guess it's what's under the hood that counts.
It did say it couldn't update the software because the phone was modified so I am wondering what, if anything I am missing.
One thing I did notice pretty much straight away was the battery seems to be running down quicker. Could be my imagination of course but I will test it over the next few days to be certain.
flash any stock Rom and change csc

Rooting will not stop you from updating OTA through KIES. It wont update through direct OTA.
Update via Kies or download the DLJ4 and flash with odin. You will have the same result
Cheers

i need help please!! i have instaled on my samsung galaxy s3 gt-i9300 SU PROversion and the triangle away...i can make OTA updates but when is installing it stops every time on 25%...any sugestions??
Hey man. I think u should use triangle away. Then unroot.. then format. Then wipe everything else.. then download some ROM or try kies firmware upgrade. That's how i got some updates. Actually custom ROMs are way better than stock and when ultimately or phone crashes, u can revive it using kies firmware upgrade.
