I just rooted my Jewel and the only ROM I really want to try is stable CM10. I've read everywhere since I'm s-on it may not flash correctly. Is this true? I have the lastest H Boot and firmware and have not flashed any custom ROMs yet on this phone at least. Should I just flash it or should I do something else. I would appreciate any input.

Very true. I have an FAQ post for specific questions like this. And about 2 new posts a day are asking this same question.
Latest firmware: you need to downgrade using babyracun and then S-OFF. That'll fix your every issue.
Earlier firmware: fastboot flash boot boot.img
That'll flash the kernel for S-ON and allow your ROM to boot and work.

I'll be honest I read the DirtyRacun procedures and it looks like brain surgery. Wow what happened to simple flashing without all this extras? So if I want to stay simple and keep S-On I just need to flash the boot img before or after flashing CM10? Sorry for my noobness (which I am far from) but I've been out if the rooting game for awhile. Thank you very much for the help.

HTC happened. I did babyracun and facepalm within a few minutes. Far from any type of surgery. If you want to stay S-ON then you'll just need to use ROM's that are 3.16 based. No AOSP ROM will work with the latest touchpanel firmware. So... Just S-OFF. Its easy.

I am confused as to which roms I am able to flash. I am Unlocked, s-on, with twrp. I have read a bunch of threads and think I understand what s-on means but not sure as to which roms I can flash. Some of the roms say that you can flash them but a lot don't mention it at all. I would like to flash a non sense rom like cm 10 but I get stuck in the cm 10 loading screen. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks
You can flash any rom you want. You can now get s-off too. Go to unlimited.io and use the dirtyracun method. If you don't want to do that you will need to flash the kernel separately.

I have a 64 bit running windows 7 and not familiar with running it from a disc. So I guess I'll flash the kernel separate.
So flash the rom then flash the kernel?
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I'm not exactly sure, I've never had to do it. I think you need to extract the boot.img and the flash the rom then fastboot flash the boot.img.
In case anyone is wondering I got it to flash and boot up by flashing the ROM then right after that I flashed an s on kernel that was compatible with the ROM I flashed.
Thanks for the help in leading me in the right direction.

Hi. If I didn't search thoroughly for a question like this, I apologize ahead of time. But I was curious if there is a way to s-off hboot 2.09 that is currently s-on?
I have not tried dirty racun yet.

I went s-on since day one after I got bored of stock and have never had any problems Tbh, I almost pity all the poor s-off folks who were too terrified to take the ota All it takes is a couple extra steps to flash anything and its been worth it so far. I preordered so I had plenty of chances to S-Off early on but I don't regret it at all.

Now s-on is not bad at all right? The only con is having to flash boot.img through fast boot when flashing a rom?

Another con is you can't update your firmware unless you relock and take the OTA or hope a recovery flashable zip comes along
So if your hboot was s-off, how is it any different than s-on? You still have to run the RUU to go back to stock then get the OTA right? Or are you talking about some other OTA?

There are Firmware zips available right now for 3.15 that can be flashed in the bootloader but you must be S-OFF to flash them.Just flash and everything is updated except hboot, kernel, and stock recovery.
Flashing those firmwares is the same as taking the OTA except for what I mentioned above

Ugh - took the OTA on an HTCdev unlocked boot loader and now it seems hboot 2.09 locks down the systems (can't update supersu binary, they locked down /system?). Now on viperboy stock rooted rom...
Hopefully they come out with an s-off technique for 2.09, need to be able to "hide" supersu/root binaries on my device...
Any news on s-off for hboot 2.09?
Hi, I'm am a noob, I got the JB update, then decided to root my phone. I am unlocked and rooted. I would like to turn s-off but my hboot is 2.09.
I am trying to flash mean bean and every time it gets to around 25%, my phone reboots. I am using twrp to try flashing it.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Or what I need to do?
Thanks again.

I believe uou first have to unlock your bootloader in order to be able to downgrade. And as far as being s-on you might not be able to flash many of tge available ROMS. Keep in mind that guide is for CDMA by the way

I think I saw in one of the threads you are on cricket? If so your flash is safe using this guide
You need a computer to unlock bootloader. Go to htcdev.com and you follow the guide there then continue with the link i posted. You are CDMA by the way. Also look at the guide this other guy posted by ramjet.

Hey people. I'm having a hard time flashing roms on my 4GLTE. Ill wipe, factory reset and wipe the cache but when I install the Rom it doesn't do anything. I've only been able to flash 2 roms the stock with goodies rom and the viper rom. And ideas on what's going on or help? Thanks

Follow the tutorials under General and start with posting details such as current specs, SON, SOFF, Hboot etc., then which ROMs you have tried and steps you have done to attempt installing them.
The more details you give the more XDA can help.
Please give us some more information. Are you s-off? Are you on the most recent firmware? Have you updated your touch panel driver? What do you mean by "nothing happens"? Are you getting boot loops or is the phone not booting at all or is the touch panel unresponsive?

Sorry I'm on S-On I do have the latest hboot. I've pretty much tried every updated Rom in the forum. It will either 1, stay on the HTC screen, 2 it will boot loop or 3 ill just have a black screen where ill have to restart back into recovery and go back to my previous backup. I have the Viper Rom right now. I can try to attach a screen shot of the roms I've downloaded and all of them gave me 1 of those 3 problems except viper and the stock with goodies Rom

Being that you are s-on you have to flash the kernel/boot.img first use flash image gui from the playstore or fastboot flash the kernel.
I suggest getting s-off it will save you so many headaches

Some ROMs (like Viper and MeanBean) include a kernel installer for S-on. For those that don't you'll need to follow bigdaddy's advice above.

You can use an app called Flash Image GUI from the Play Store to flash the kernel, assuming you can get your phone to boot into your current ROM. What specific problem are you having flashing the kernel with fastboot?
Your other solution is to get S-off, which is preferable

Like I said before... You NEED to downgrade in order to use any AOSP ROM's. Not sure how many more times you're going to make these posts. Lmao.
READ THIS! YOU NEED TO DOWNGRADE TO USE AOSP! DOWNGRADING IS A PROCESS TO GAINING S-OFF! SO JUST S-OFF!
Fastboot works just fine. Just need to know how to use it.

You NEED to S-OFF.
Please listen to delakit. As long as you have the 3.16 TP you will ONLY be able to use 3.16 based sense ROMs. NO OTHERS. You HAVE to downgrade your touch panel, which can only be done if S-off.
(Side note, this is what makes me not wanna wait for HTC One price to drop. You end up with updated FW/SW that is always more difficult to S-off, if supported AT ALL).
