So I got my One a couple days ago and I've decided that I really like sense, which is surprising because I've hated every version of sense yet. The app drawer is my favorite, and there's a lot of things about the launcher that I like.
There's just a couple things that irk me about the sense launcher. Is it possible to tweak it at all or is it all closed off? I'd love a 5x4 grid, a static search bar and to put blinkfeed on any page. I doubt those last 2 are possible but I can wish.
Is anything like that remotely possible?

Really? I'm able to pick it up and drag it around the "Panels" interface but it always jumps back the default position once I lift my finger.

I'm using Go Launcher right now, and I'm pretty satisfied. Is there any better theme app than this? what apps do you use for your theme?
I really like go sms pro and a few others They make a lot of decent apps, all highly customizable. I used go launcher before I got CM9. As for others? Idk.

I used Go with my Droid X and Liberty and loved it. Since this is my first HTC I've been giving sense a try, but the thing that drives me nuts is the home screen only sits vertical, where as Go works either or.
I never did theme mine, the craziest i got was enabling some of the cool page transition graphics. I'm starting to lean toward Go again, esp if i can get the sense clock/weather 4x1 widget. I have to say i love that thing a lot.

Being only vertical is what drives me nuts about Sense. If there was a way for the homescreen to be auto orientation, then Sense would be all I need.

Same with me, that's a waste of space. Apex launcher doesn't have that black menu bar. Not sure about other launchers.
I used it in the past but found it "choppier" then other options. ADWLauncher EX is my go-to nowadays. never had a problem with it.
I'm trying it right now. It seems to be the only one that I can find that offers a 5 column app drawer and allows resizable widgets for free.
It seems pretty fast, there is choppiness every now and then but that is usually when I'm running other stuff at the same time.
The biggest downside is the Honeycomb menu bar. I emailed the developer about this issue, hopefully they will take care of it since it is a fairly simple fix. If some of you like it too (except for the menu bar), I'd encourage you to email them and complain. The more complaints the higher the chances of a fix. [email protected]
I tried most launchers and the one i like the most is Nova Launcher.

Is it possible? For me its just a wasted home screen and annoying that the phone likes to default to it as the default home screen. Anyone else feel like Sense 5 would be better without it?

The only way to "disable" blinkfeed currently is to not set anything up and to set another screen as your home screen. It will still be sitting there on the far left, but ignorance is bliss, so you just don't swipe too far left. LOL I'm sure it will come with time, but the developers are still concentrating on getting all the bugs out before they start working on the tweaks.
You can just set a different homescreen as the default one.

On your HTC One Home Screen just swipe to left.
Just tap and hold on any blank area of the screen.
A Panel will appear on the top. From the available panel, you can set one as your alternative to BlinkFeed. Just tap and drag the panel you wish to set it as home screen. Drag the panel to “Set as home”.

Same here. At first I was like "What is this garbage???"
But after using it for some time now, I really like it. It is a great content delivery vehicle, and honestly has made twitter something enjoyable now.
I hated and despised blinkfeed to begin with. Eventually I kinda grew to it. Only have my Twitter feed instead of FB and all that going to it. Quite useful now.

Now she's at work with her new phone and I'm at work with my old Note 2 so I'm of no help. From my Sensations days I asked her to pinch to zoom to bring up home screen preview and rearrange them there but she said that is no good. The little screen to add another home screen page she says she can drag the home screens around but can't rearrange them. Is there any special trick to rearranging the home screens on the HTC One?
I have the same problem. I've been told that it can't be done with Sense 5.

I can help. Just open the app drawer, long press on the app you want to remove. Drag it up and it will load back in the drawer leaving a blank space. Then drag the app you want to replace down to the blank space on the dock.

If that doesn't work for you, drag the other app down to the app you want to replace and it'll make a folder on your dock. Then just remove the app you want gone. Either way, it's more steps than it should be but you'll get the result you want!

No. You dont drag it TO the drawer. You drag it FROM the drawer TO the taskbar. After, of course, dragging the icon you want to replace FROM the task bar TO the drawer.

It makes sense to me. What didnt make sense on my S2 was to first create a shortcut on a homescreen panel and then drag it to the bottom task bar. Thats two steps. With the One, its one step. From the drawer to the taskbar.
Thank You for these tips. I have been trying to figure this out. I will admit some of these things are strange coming from the Nexus 4 but I can deal with them for this awesome phone.
So when I drag it as per the screenshot. It does add the app to the drawer but then you can not remove either of the apps and this thing is pissing me how

I've got a few more screenshots that will hopefully help from here. Once you've created the folder, click on it to where it brings the two apps up. Then long press the app you wish to remove and drag it to the drawer.

Does anyone know if this is possible? I keep finding myself pressing back, but then it would just leave me back in the app drawer instead of closing the app drawer and bringing me home. I want to close the app drawer with the back button and not need to press the drawer button.
Bump!
It could be dependent on the launcher you are using. I am using Nova Launcher. When I am in the app drawer and I press back, it brings me back to home.

It's rubbish because it doesn't conform to standards and as such is a sore thumb for the user experience. The purpose of conforming to standards is to create consistent operations throughout the product instead of having someone press the back button because it works everywhere else and not work here.

I agree to an extent, only because I find that compared to navigation on the One X, the app drawer makes things clumsy and you have one extra thing to think about. I don't like it, it's not intuitive, but this is a beautiful frackin phone so I won't complain too much.
Is there any way to make a selective widget, like the DuckDuckGo widget, persistent in the place of the Google search widget? I ask this because the Google search widget that is persistent doesn't take up a complete grid like it would if I was to add the DuckDuckGo widget to every page at the top.
Adding the DuckDuckGo widget drops everything down much further, even with another grid space added on Nova, than just having the persistent widget does.
I saw with Lightning Laughed you could "pin" a widget in place and it is almost like using a persistent widget, in that it stays in the same place as you scroll through homescreens, but its still very very different. I have also seen Overlays but that is completely different as well.
So is there any way to modify Nova, and of the other launchers, or a ROM to use the DuckDuckGo widget as persistent instead of the Google search bar?

Apparently SS Launcher allows pinning as well, I am currently emailing the Dev and discussing persistent widgets but I don't have much hope because he doesn't seem to know what I am talking about or the differences.

Not at all, the ssLauncher Dev has no idea what I a, talking about, he doesn't speak English as his first language so its extremely hard for me to explain things to him. I eventually gave up.
I've heard that the Dev responsible for Action Launcher adds just about anything his users ask for so I am going to email him later today and see if he can and would add that. Ive been trying to figure this out for quite a while and no one knows anything about it and the few that do, I've found 2 people who supposedly know, don't want to explain what edits need to be made.
I'll post back when I get dome talking with the Dev over Action Launcher!
