System Recovery won't load? - Motorola Droid X2

I can't get my System Recovery to load. It installs fine(doesn't as about SU permissions). When I try to open it I get the following error: "Sorry! The application System Recovery (process com.tenfar.a4.recovery) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
I have tried this several time. I have confirmed that I am rooted and am updated to 2.3.5. I am trying to install Eclipse.

Which system recovery are you trying to use?

Not sure TBH! The file that I am using is MOTODX2_Bootstrap_signed.apk

Ok, thats the right one. I dont know why it wouldnt work. Even if you arent rooted, it should still install. It will only ask for root when you push the "install recovery" button. You just installed it like a normal apk file right? You didnt try to put it in system/app/ or anything did you?

No. I had the apk on my SD card. I touched that and it installed. When the install was finished it asked if I wanted to open or done. I chose open and got the message from above.

Thats weird. Maybe go into the app info for the system recovery app and clear data and cache for it. Maybe it will clean it up. I dont have very many thoughts on this. I've never ran into this problem.

It finally worked after 10 data wipes.
Followed the directions to load eclipse. FInally got Eclipse on there and working. Thanks for the advice.

For future reference, were you on stock rom or something different?

[Q] (bad) installation aborted?

I am Currently running VEGantab ginger and wanted to try a different rom
I get the following error when I try to install VEGan 5, or Caulkin... I followed the directions in the sticky
I wipe data/factory reset, clear cache and delvik, then I go to choose the zip from the sdcard and I get this message:
Finding Update Package
Opening update package
E:Can’t open /sdcard/roms/gtab.VEGAn.1.00.beta5.1.user.final.zip

Installation aborted.
I can still install VEGanTab Ginger from the same directory and Vanilla, so I don’t know what the issue is.
Any fixes?

I have tried that several times. I have also donloaded from the XDA forum, and from VEGAn's site.
Rename it to something like Vegan.zip, put it in a different directory or something to see why you are having issues. It could be too many characters, or something simple like that.
when you browse to chose it to install, it errors then?

I tried renaming it, but it still didn't work. Thanks though. Maybe re-partitioning?
I don't see how that would help installing.
Something is going on with the install since it's aborting at install.
You said you can install other ROM's without issue...just this one, right?

Actually this seemed to fix it:
Reboot device, go back into CWM
Clear data/cache/dalvik, etc. (maybe a few times?)
Install from zip
Worked this time!

[Q] Deleted Talk.apk, how can I get it back

For reasons I won't go into (mainly because they're boring) I deleted Google talk.apk from Root Explorer (I was following instructions to update the app but those didn't work) and now I can't get it back. I've factory reset the phone to no avail. I have Google Voice installed, but can't seem to get talk back. If anyone could help, it would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Thanks!
BTW, I did a search before posing the ?, but the only solution I found was for a different phone, and when I ran those steps, when I tried to open Talk, it would just FC.

Have you tried snagging the files from another Photon and installing? Can you post what steps you have already taken please?
Yes....factory reset won't restore system apps. You can flash Juggs update.zip and that will restore for you. Then would have to root again of course but is easy enough.
Just download a custom rom , unzip it and copy the required app to your device.

I will try that as well. When I did a search, I found where someone had posted the talk.apk.zip file which I copied to my sd card, unzipped and then copied to system/apps (through Root Explorer), but that is when I started getting FC's. I then installed it (from Root Explorer) even with the same result. It may be that it wasn't the right version maybe? So if I extract it from a Rom, do I just copy it to the System/Apps folder (using Root Explorer)? Sorry for the confusion, and thanks much for the help.

I don't (and didn't) have that file, only talk.apk (which of course was deleted). Isn't the odex like the cache? If so, would it have been removed when I ran App Cache Cleaner?

Well short of getting the apk from the very same rom version ,you will have to reflash he rom.

Hey faria, thanks! I did the top link last night (that was the one that I copied the talk.apk.zip (2.2) over to my SD card, extracted, and then copied to /system/apps/. I installed from there (btw, I did change to R/W first), but all I got was FC's on talk. I'm thinking I needed to reboot after installing, maybe? I'm not really sure why I would need to reboot though, but if that is all it takes, I'm happy. I will try that when I get home tonight (don't have a spare cable with me right now). Thank you sooo much for your help.

If you still end up having problems.....
Juggs update.zip is just the latest OTA with a few minor modifications. So basically it will restore all to pretty close out of the box and restore any system apps.
However, you can also flash the sbf which is the actual newest OTA exactly like the one pushed from Motorola/Sprint. This requires using rsd and isn't quite as easy as the update.zip which can just be flashed via bootstrap recovery.
Any one of these methods will require you to root the phone again.

Yeah, I'm gonna flash the sbf, I just downloaded it and installed the drivers and stuff, but I think I'm gonna wait until tomorrow night (only because it's been a really long day, started at 4 am MST just ending), so I think my brain is fried. Thanks for all your help today, I'll let ya know tomorrow how it goes. What a freakin pain in the arse this talk.apk has become....haha
Update: I flashed the sbf, re-rooted, and everything is great now, have Talk back. Thanks for all the help!

Get update to redownload and try again?

So I had cwm installed when the ota tried to install, which of course failed. I installed stock recovery and tried going into that, it did an update, rebooted and was updating again(not sure why twice) and then a red exclamation appeared. Rebooted and the OS version was the new 2.0, but the radio was the old version still. I luckily was able to reflash amonra and restore my cwm backup from prior to update.
Does anyone know how I might go about getting the phone to try again, this time with stock recovery installed from the start?
Anyone know how to clear all the downloaded update files and get it to see there is an update and download again? The "Check new" option does nothing at all. The status option shows the update, with the original time I requested the download. No prompts to install it since what I assume is the first one where it beeped right as I was pressing home. I'd like to clear it out and just have it redownload and install. Must be a way, hoping someone knows one.

Ok, yeah found it at /cache/kumo/OTAupdate.zip. Deleted it and rebooted but when I do an update check it still does absolutely nothing(no dialog at all after pressing) and the status still talks about the last time i started the upgrade process. Any other files I might need to change/delete to get it to start downloading again?

Make sure you either move the titanium backup folder off your internal storage if it is.. it get's wiped. I am new to using Titanium backup and when I went to reinstall titanium backup apps I realized they don't show up so I am assuming Titanium defaults the backup folder onto internal storage.
Yeah it defaults to /mnt/sdcard which is internal for us. Moved mine to ext_sd so that should be ok at least.

[INFO]Please download Latest/Official CWM v5.8.2.0

A preface:
This is neither development or a question. This is simply an informative post that needs to be in the development section to save many users issues. (also most people looking for custom roms dont look in general section)
I did not create this.
New official CWM v5.8.2.0 (link below)
A few of us have confirmed that it now properly backs up and restores the boot.img
This Helps with the following issues
-Possibly fixes bricks (by properly restoring boot.img)
-Correctly comes with Staging/System unmounted
-Nandroid Restores properly the boot.img (of backups created with this CWM). This means no more issues when restoring a Rom if you are coming from another from (for example, if you are restoring Virtuous after wiping cm9)
Additionally:
-Backups are now about 10x faster
-Restores are a bit faster (not as dramatic as backups)
Still no go:
-External SD Card (Pretty sure)
-Reboot into recovery (probably a software issue within OS anyway)
Manual install:Here is the link to the file if you prefer to manually install (EASY WAY BELOW) -Must have unlocked bootloader

Easy Install -Must have unlocked bootloader.
Use Rom Manager:
Install Rom Manager from the market -> Open -> First Option: 'Flash ClockworkMod Recovery'-> Done.
This can be done over your current CWM (if you installed it via ViperMod) or manually)
If you have issues installing via RM try this

This cwm is more up to date and will prevent many end users from making the mistake of installing an outdated version. These 2 threads can (and should) be merged as long as the thread title has the latest CWM in it and the OP has some information regarding it.

It should not. all my previous ones are there after flashing in RM
Though: I dont think it will retroactively fix the boot.img restore and backup issue meaning, you should probably make new backups if you want to be able to restore the kernel properly in the future

Yep, I am runnig Virtuous ROM.
I did go in and clear cache and data and tried all over again.
It starts, the "blue bar" at the top of the screen starts to scroll across and gets to about the end and just hangs. If I remember correctly from my other phones it should boot at that point and do its thing?
I will uninstall...reboot and reinstall.
If that doesnt work, maybe I will try the old fashion adb deal.

Hi guys, I have a Noot Tablet 16 GB using CM10.1.

I can't. First it's not a play store app, and second, I don't have a backup.
How did you install it in the first place?
Edit. Ok, re-reading op, I assume you originally side loaded an apk file, un-installed it (without backing up) through TB, and are now trying to re-side load the app? Assuming this is all true, are you using the same original download file from the first install?

Yes, I download the APK, installed, test it, uninstalled with TB (because I was using it and I remember that I need to uninstall that APK, so I kill two birds with one stone), try to reinstall very same APK, always fail.
I assume you are rooted and have custom recovery. If so, go into CWM/TWRP, wipe cache and dalvik-cache then try installing. Also, before doing any of that go into settings under security and make sure you have unknown sources checked.
Good luck

What app is it? If it's available on the Play Store install the app there. As for the the previous uninstalled app there must be parts left behind. Look around in your File Manager. For now on use the settings to uninstall apps.
