Hey folks, I've been nugging around the bootloader unlocking problem, since I own a Neo V which is locked, and the service menu in the phone says that the Bootloader cannot be unlocked. So I've read through some threads about this, and I wondered upon the idea, if I unlock my SIM lock(probably with TurboSIM, since thats the cheapest solution), would that enable me to unlock my bootloader, and start the real modifying of my phone?
What do you guys think? Worth's a try?

no is the right answer
Contact your network provider to remove sim lock on your device ( if your on contract and haven't expired/over yet maybe they will not do it for you) after you removed the sim lock, you can unlock your boatloader and mod your phone..
For me Linus Torvalds is the greatest man on earth

I have the code to unlock my Xperia S, got it for free from my provider
But I do not have an "locked" sim card.
How do I enter the code then?
Just pop in any other SIM and it'll ask you to enter the unlock code.

Damn.. I want to unlock my bootloader now.
Or, if you must unlock it now, go ask someone who has another provider for their SIM for a few seconds.
problem solved. Next time post this in the Q&A section.

Yes that would be a solution, but it makes it alittle harder to get hold of a micro sim..
Oh sorry, tought that was like a FAQ section. Maybe a mod could move it?
You won't be unlocking the bootloader I don't think, just the sim lock on the phone.

Sim unlocking the phone doesn't seem to have anything to do with the bootloader unlock. And if you don't have another SIM card, then you probably don't have to even SIM unlock your phone in the first place.
There are some users on this forum which claimed SIM unlocking the phone will get rid of the bootloader lock as well. I have unlocked my phone, and have proven this to be false. Strangely, whenever I questioned the users for their proof they never posted it.

You are right. I don't actually need to remove the sim lock. But I read somewhere that the bootloader became unlockable when the sim lock was removed.
But if that wasn't true for you, it probably won't be for me neither..
Doing a SIM unlock will not unlock the bootloader. Both are unrelated. As long as there isn't a test point method you will not be able to unlock the bootloader.

i need to unlock my bootloader

get an unlock code from your network provider, some people have said that once they removed the simlock its let them unlock the bootloader. if that doesnt work then theres not much you can do untill someone works out another way to unlock it
no fastboot mode.
Theres only one solution I know of, and it may be a crazy one....
Use search first, and read the other 500 threads created on this topic ;-)
Short answer: No, not able to be done yet.

If you want to unlock the boot loader, use the wotanserver.com
* In addition to sim unlock you get an unlocked bootloader.
However, it seems to me that at the moment, this service does not support SXS
Try to write the administration service.

= the post above was completely unnecessary as it does *NOT* provide a way of unlockning bootloader for SXS.

What is a "rootable bootloader"?
For the Croatian members:
I've just called customer service of Vipnet( Vodafone) and they told me that there is no problem, you can unlock boot loader for only 480 HRK (~65€).
Well, if there's no free unlocking solution in few weeks I'll have to milk some cash. It's still better then locked for life.

Hi guys, I bought a Xperia go ST27i from Austria (T-Mobile) and I'm trying to unlock it because of the startup message "SIM network unlock PIN".
I have been looking for a solution on the web for a long time and I haven't found it yet.
Could somebody help me about that?
Thank you.

ok, as far as i know you can remove the SIM lock by entering a network/SIM unlock code. You can usually get one from your provider. You have to pay them of course... :crying:
I know that german T-Mobile phones can be unlocked that way, not sure if its the same in Austria...
Removing the SIM lock does not affect the status of your bootloader! If its locked it will stay locked.

Thank you stothegee, I really apreciate your help!
I have been looking for a topic about it in T-Mobile website and I didn't find nothing good.
In the meanwhile I found this service:
cellfservices com => "unlock-sony-st27i" (I can't post links yet)
Do you know it? I would like to know if it's reliable or not.
Thank you for the help

Hi All
Excellent work on getting the locked boot-loader root I now have a rooted z2. Is there any chance someone could look at changing the status of boot-loader unlock allowed=no to yes (if at all possible). I have lots of faith in you all and I will be a happy bunny if/when I can get a custom kernel to run on my phone.
Thanks in advance

Every Z2 comes locked but some are not unlockable. To answer OPs question there is no way to unlock it with bootloader unlock allowed = no.

I got that part, I was just gathering general knowledge about it since I'm going to be very new to this device. Mine should be unlockable since it's "Network Unlocked". Yes I do know the difference between Bootloader and SIM lock, just stating that typically ones that are factory unlocked for use on any GSM network also have unlockable bootloaders.
I guess that makes me a happy camper
O.K
I have been in contact with O2 (Via Online Gurus) who have told me two different things on two different occasions,
1) You need to unlock your Sim lock with a code (which I did from them) and then flash a generic unbranded FTF. This will change the rooting status from NO to YES........................... This did not work
2) You need to talk to Sony as it was them who locked it................. Gahhhh
I have sent Sony an email saying this and I am just waiting for a reply.....................
Now we wait

I think now you'll have to buy a new phone from no operators at all if you want it bootloader unlockable.
Although I'm curious. Here in Greece all phones come unlocked even from operators. I mean Sim unlocked but they are branded. I bought mine from Commode and I checked three of them and their bootloader was Yes on unlock status.
Weird.
