So, here I was just sitting, thinking about our beautiful L9's and how they have come a long way, when I started thinking about the current method to unlock the p769 boot loader. As most of you know the current method has you flash a p760 and p765 kdz onto our p769 which messes up our touchscreen. This is when I got to thinking. What about restoring to a custom tailor made p760 nandroid backup in CWM with the correct touch firmware already in place? This way we would have the p760 firmware needed to unlock the boot loader, AND our touchscreens would not be messed up . Anyone think this is possible?
In short:
1. Flash nandroid backup from p760 (with p769 touch firmware) via CWM
2. wait 30 min
3. unlock boot loader as you normally would on a p760 or p765
4. restore to p769 nandroid of jb or ics with unlocked boot loader for custom roms

I was under the impression that the touch screen issue is in the uboot file. And that file is what unlocks our bootloader.

Oh is it? then couldnt you just flash the uboot alone? instead of the whole kdz? The main goal is to find a simpler more user friendly way ha

I see. That may be possible. But I am not sure if you can flash a new uboot without unlocked uboot.

You can flash a new uboot without an unlocked uboot, you just have to be rooted (dd if/of), or even unrooted (fastboot via omap). As for being able to unlock using that method, I'm still testing that out on my backup P769 with no luck so far.

Hello,
is it possible to relock bootloader after ulocking it? I need it due to the warranty.
in short, No. please search the forum for details, as this is discussed.
i suggest you just try the luck sending the phone in and not mention anythong about the bootloader. of course should flash to stock rom if that still can be done

Why you want the warranty? Want to sell it later? Or did it already got any fault?

I think, he did not say he is sending to service center. He just said he needs it for warranty (in future).
See how smart these new pals are. May be we are all idiots to unlock it without giving a second thought. lolz
I do not have yet any fault, I just want to try alternative rom and I want to have way back to stock rom
My last phone had after 3 month of use some problem and I must return it. So I just want to know if it is possible
I thought that flashing the stock u-boot & x-boot will re-lock the bootloader.

Maybe this should be in a sticky post somewhere. I have seen a few people ask about re-locking the bootloader.
If this works, we should start collecting u-boot & x-boot images.
There is no way to relock bootloader. Here is good post about bootloader and omap4430, it applies to L9s. In our case ics xloader ,uboot or both simply don't recognize that bootloader had been unlocked and it just appears locked.
I see. Thanks you.
So, you guys with unlocked bootloader, have no problem with fact that your devices have no warranty?
If you don't mention the unlocked bootloader to the customer service and your device has an unrooted stock ROM, there is only a few chance that they check the bootloader if it is for an hardware issue.
It only requires a little bit luck .
If i will make root by this:

cwm requires unlocked bootloader
I think you need to install the "CWM Recovery" bootloader to flash a custom ROM. And with a locked bootloader, you can only have a bootloader signed by LG (not a "CWM Recovery" one).
However, you can try this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2095825
It is a "CWM Recovery" which is not directly placed inside the bootloader (instead, it adds a step on Android start). When I tried it on my P760 (when it still had a locked bootloader), it failed (but you can still try).

Actually that recovery will not work on jb,
Ok, that's why it failed for me.
Now, you have your answer, you must stay on ICS if you wish to keep your bootloader locked with CWM Recovery.
However, I would be curious to know what happens if a JB ROM (custom or stock) is installed through using this "locked bootloader CWM Recovery".

I received "Security Error" when attempting to boot when I tried this a while back. It just won't work because the kernel needs to be signed by LG.
So may I at least root phone or even root is not possible without unlocked bootloader?

Okay, so I restored animusFL's deodexed stock backup, and then I flashed the CWM recovery V20F update, but now my phone is stuck at the T-Mobile logo, and even if I try to flash a KDZ with S/W upgrade mode it doesn't work because I was previously on JB. I'm unable to access my homescreen to activate LG Software Mode. Can somebody please provide me with a simple hotfix? Please I need this fixed before night lol.
EDIT: I'm unable to access my Locked Bootloader CWM as well, before the flash I selected to preserve root and recovery but it didn't work... So now I have a phone that says T-Mobile constantly. /:

Hey llxaot, I'd be interested to know if you tried Kuma82's suggestion & if it worked. I'm in a similar boat ... working phone, but locked bootloader and not rooted on P769 with v20f OTA.
Kuma82, my phone is fully functional now. I'm "simply" trying to unlock bootloader & root the device. The methods in the links look to restore function of a device that's been soft-bricked, etc.
Is this the only currently known method for unlocking bootloader on P769 v20f?
Basically get fastboot working via Lelus script, flash the uboot and xloader from the 3rd link in that post & I'll be unlocked & have ICS recovery on device?
Then, I just need to flash back JB, flash CWM recovery (if I want) and root?
SO DAMN CONFUSING...this is by far the most difficult phone I've ever worked with.

I fixed it with Lelus' help. Kuma's would definitely work but I can't seem to get fastboot to work. Anyways, what I did was went into LG PC Suite and clicked on Device -> Emergency Recovery or something like that. Make sure you don't have the local server setup from cmahendra's offline KDZ flash method. Then you just find where you put in your device's IMEI code or whatever and click OK, it'll flash the stock v20F firmware straight from LG's server to your phone! Then you have to re-root (I recommend LG Pwn method) and install busybox and then flash Artas locked CWM recovery. About the whole bootloader thing, just wait. @carloswii5 is making a video to upload soon on how to do it, that's when noobs like you and I can do this.

What unlock BL thread did you use? It's possible after issue "adb reboot oem-unlock" and your phone just normal reboot. Many people has that problem. Let me guess it about new board hardware version. But some people keep trying to unlock and they success in third or fourth try.

Hello i have just purchased this phone and i want to unlock the bootloader and install CWM and then Cyanogenmod but im finding it is very difficult to do so.. I have a few questions.. i have found some info on here but it says from tmobile 10g..which i am not.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277639. Why is it so hard to do this and why after so much time has an easy fast method not been posted anywhere. It pisses me off they lock this thing up with all this built in bloat and make this so hard for users.. we are paying for the phones-therefore we should have 100 percent control over how they are used..
1. Is there any easier less risky way to unlock my bootloader and install cwm/cyanogenmod than this clusterfack way
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277639) for noobs ha
2. I rooted and flashed Cwm but i cannot get into it either with key combo or adb reboot recovery(brings me to android with open stomach screen, thats it..and i assume if i try to flash a zip like cyanogenmod IF I DID GET IN WITH A LOCKED bootloader it wouldnt work or id get security error)
i have busybox installed and phone is fully rooted..I need to avoid bricking and security errors at all costs
3.i need detailed step by step instructions for lg l9 p769 21d (locked bootloader) willing to offer a bit of cash to anyone who can help me successfully Unlock my Bootloader without any device brickage or security errors.
Update: Itried installing the artas test version on cwm with his installer and I now can get into cwm..the stable one wasn'tworking..
So now Ihave recovery just bbootloader locked preventing me from flashing any new ROMs...sighh

yes you can root with a locked bootloader.
to unlock your bootloader you need to have root access.
You can always backup your TA partition, and then unlock bootloader, and then restore the TA partition and restore bootlock as well.

What you could do is use flash tool to go back to another firmware, then root, and then update to the newest version. But not flashing the kernel. then you can flash the modified kernel with CWM, and then flash the new kernel afterwards.
I think there is a tutorial on here that tells you how to do it.

ah yes, OK, that's what I was wondering, whether it is possible to downgrade the firmware with a locked boot loader, using Flashtool. perhaps I will try.. thanks
I just remember on some other devices I've had, a locked boot loader wouldn't allow a firmware downgrade.
