Hi guys! I'm new to all of this.
I rooted my Galaxy S2 on a whim with the dorimax kernel.
Now I have the following trouble: There is a noticable lag between pressing the home button and closing the app/returning to the home screen.
This effect started happening after I installed the offical JB update from my provider the dorimanx kernel made it a lot more noticable(ICS was way faster in that regard... which puzzles me quite a bit)
What do I have to do to reduce this problem? Change something in the settings or install a non-stock ROM?
----------
Also three other questions out of curiousity:
Can I use the dorimax kernel with the neatrom?(as the need rom comes with another kernel, I would have to flash the dorimanx kernel on top of it after installing everything?)
If I made a nandroid backup before installing Neatrom: would I be able to return everything to how it was(stock SAMSUNG Rom with dorimanx kernel;by simply selecting my backup under the restore option in CWM) before installing neatrom in case I dont like it?
What is better: The CM that is based on JB 4.1 or NeatRom? Is the CM version based on 4.2 usable, or do they still have some annoying problems? <----I guess there is still no stable build for 4.2 under CM?
Thank you very much guys.
If I get positiv comments I'm gonna flash neatrom first thing tomorrow morning. I allready have nandroid backup and saved a lot of my favorite apps with TB.
Another QuestioN: Would I be able to install the Samsung Stock email app from a TB-Save on another rom?<-- I know that you shouldn't do this with system apps(I dont want to reenter the server adresses for my email account in an other app)

I'm Sure someone else will know different but for me the lag was always there and I never heard of a way to reduce it, I've been using an s3 mini today running 4.1 and there is considerable lag between pressing the button and returning to the home screen so it could be a fault in Samsung JB rom's. Try neatrom, as I understand it's blazingly fast and a considerable improvement over stock.
I've been running cm10.1 for a while and it still has some big bugs (hardware composer etc) that will probably never be sorted due to Samsung's unwillingness to release their sources, and the FM radio does not work. However everything I use works the odd game doesn't (real racing 3) due to I believe the Mali drivers but other than that everything else is running ok. Recent updates have made it very fast and for me it's faster than any "stock" based rom.
Yes you can use dori kernel with neatrom and cm10.1 as well, although you will need the 9.xx kernel.
You can use the stock email app on neatrom and any other stock based rom but not on Cyanogenmmod or any other AOSP based rom.
Yea backup in CWM and you can restore it if you don't like Neatrom.
Hope some of this helps

Hi all,
Scenario: got tired of unstable custom ROMs, did a full wipe(/data/system/cache) flashed stock rom (4.0.4 XEN) for my region. After setting up the first time ran Odin again to root with new Siyah v5.0.1. Got rid off Vlingo using Apex launcher trick(or Go launcher EX).
Now I noticed tonight I no longer have any home button lag with only the above changes to my phone. In other words happy me. However I cannot find any suggestions for any home button lag fix in Siyah's changelogs while the Vlingo assistant with it's annoying lag was present at first boot before kicking it off with the launcher trick. Now this used to result in no more Vlingo but still lag when pressing home.
Does anyone know if anything changed in the Stock rom 4.0.4 or Siyah 5.0.1? Don't get me wrong, happy with the result Just curious.
This is just from personal experience of using my galaxy s2 and by no means an expert...
But I never use the stock rom (with the exception of gingerbread) because anything after gingerbread lags like hell on my s2.
The only reason I can think of are the bloatware from samsung taking up all the hardware resources of the phone, thus slowing it down. Whereas I find most custom rom "cleaned" up the phone and require less resource to run.
I don't believe there is a problem with the kernel but I can be wrong!
If you are afraid of unstable custom rom, why not try CM9 stable mod? It has served me greatly.

This isn't about bloatware but the delay which was programmed into the stock to wait for a second press on the home key because of voice commands/Vlingo. In 4.0.3 deleting Vlingo did not fix the lag because it was hardcoded in the stock ROM.
Hi,
Should be a fairly easy quick question
I'm running Siyah 1.8 Kernel on my phone to have dual-boot, which I really like as I can use a lightweight ROM for gaming and things and also have my stock features to hand as well.
However have decided I have tired of Stock and would like to use CyanogenMod JB 4.2 as my primary ROM and stick with my current WanamLite as secondary.
Are there any issues with flashing a new Primary ROM with CWM and keeping the 2nd ROM as it is?
Thanks

The Siyah thread gives you instructions on how to flash CM 4.2. If I remember well you can only have it as 2nd ROM (??). If so, than you can just select in STweaks to boot always into 2nd ROM for instance. To keep your WanamLite version, just swap 1st & 2nd ROM.
Hi everyone
My issue is somehow strange, I performed a clean install (full wipe, etc..) with Dorimanx Kernel 7.43 of Neat ROM 4.0 (XXLSJ) as primary ROM
When I install secondary ROM, Neat ROM boot loops and get stuck on the first Samsung bootanimation (where the logo is being drawn again and again)
I fixed permissions for secondary ROM, but still no boot, neither primary, nor secondary
I thought that ROMs are independent but seems like I'm wrong
Now I'm hesitating to retest the same with 7.44 kernel and 4.1 ROM (XWLS8)
What Have I messed ?
PS:
I reflashed my ROM and my phone is working fine, this thread is not about solving bootloop (with hundreds of threads dedicated here), it's about dual booting
Dorimanx doesn't support dual boot with any Samsung jelly bean roms currently
So it's kernel related, I did not notice this detail when flying over the changelog or the infinite number of replies :silly:
Thank you for the quick answer...
Try this Siyah MCM Kernel ver 3.0.60
http://sourceforge.net/projects/cm10i9100vsync/files/kernel/
I believe it is smoother than the Dorimanx Kernel and it supports dualboot.
Tha'ts the Kernels XDA thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1891222
Not exactly sure what Conny has posted, but just incase you didn't know dual boot can't work with any siyah or dorimanx kernel till the dev fixes it, and only siyah 6 beta 1 or above and dorimanx v3.37 or above work with samsung jelly bean

1Chef is right, I thought Neatrom published a 4.2.1 release
Considering neatrom is based on stock Samsung and not aosp then it can't have released 4.2.1
Got another bootloop while trying (hopfully) the new setup (7.44 + 4.1.2 XWLS8), nothing happened
I think that siyah will give the same result as Dorimanx is forked from, maybe with latest stable future release of Siyah, it could be fixed.
Now, I got tired from re-re-re-re-reflashing my phone :silly:
I'd better wait
Newbie Takes The Plunge to Custom Rom and Kernel: Any Suggestions?
I'm still fairly a newbie, but have rooted two phones so far, thanks to the great information, tutorials, guides, resources, and videos posted here on XDA. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 and my daughter's Samsung Epic 4G.
I rooted my I9100 successfully a few months ago, but have never flashed a rom. I'm going to try out Neat Rom Lite tonight. I've finally gotten up the nerve!
QUESTION: Does anyone have any suggestion of which kernel I should flash along with it? I need better battery life. I would love to be able to watch videos and use the phone regularly and make it through the whole day without charging. Is this possible? Can a kernel and Neat Rom Lite do this for me?
Also, I rooted the Samsung Epic 4G yesterday. Any suggestions on what rom and kernel to put on it and how would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a bunch for any assistance and comments.
Hello everyone
I'm thinking to install a custom ROM to my P7500 3g but still not sure which one. I specially want to play my 720p brrip movies on my tablet. Any good roms to recommend? btw i used overcome rom like last year, the first release i think. it was good but couldnt follow the hack scene since.
If you have no special needs not covered by stock rom i would advice to stay on stock rom.

Well the stock rom starts on lagging on me lately and uses too much of the ram.Plus since I havent heard of jelly bean coming to the tab 10.1, i wanted to try the custom roms.do you recommend the cm 10.1 or the overcome rom?
I have no personal experience with other Roms on my P7500 but i have tried cm10 on my other Android devices. From what i read on the xda forum i am not at all sure that another rom (ICS or JB) will improve my Tab rsponsiveness. My Tab runs currently extra smoothly with stock 3,2 HC rom, rooted and overclocked with setcpu app using Pershoot's kernel (thanks)
GV
Be very careful .. I bricked my first tab by simply putting an american rom on it by accident. When I went to factory reset from the recovery it triggered DSOD and locked the device.. A very rapid learning curve indeed!!
aaanyway....
Been on CM10.1 for a week now on my GT-P7500.. fast , buttery smooth and a pain free install....make a nandroid backup from recovery first !! do a wipe and factory reset afterwards. I love the look and feel of it now... mmmm shiny
Thanks for the reply caramel.Ok i'll install the CM 10.1 too I'm using 4.0.4 now.In Galaxy s2 the 4.0.4 has a wipe data bug, bricks the device.Does the tab has that too?

IF you've flashed a custom recovery, there's no worry with the emmc bug.
Hi all,
This is my first post and have a problem that I hope can be solved. Firstly, I would like to say I am an intermediate user with the international S3 (gt-i9300).
I am running Stock 4.1.2 jellybean which has been rooted. I am using googy max kernel 1.7.9. I have frozen most processes using titanium backup and i am barely experiencing any lag.
My problem lies with custom roms. Whenever I flash any Rom on my device the web browser and games will have lag. However, I am not having these lags on my stock touchwizz rom. I have flashed many roms such as cm10.1.3, cm10.2, paranoidandroid, Slimbean and all these roms lag ONLY in Web browser and games. I have tried numerous attempts to fix it such as installing as first rom and second rom. Also tried different kernels but to no avail. This is annoying as i would love to use a custom rom instead of samsungs outdated 4.1.2 touchwizz rom.
Thanks in advance.
