No sound from rear speaker? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Anyone else ever have this problem. I just bought a Galaxy Note 2 off craigslist looks brand new called verizon said it has a clean ESN and has never been activated.
Audio works through ear speaker, headphones, but rear speaker isn't working at all. I did some research and sounds like there are a lot of different audio issues with this phone. The water damage indicators are fine to so I don't think it has water damage. There isn't a nick or scratch on the phone.

Still sounds like it's a defective device. I would take it to Verizon for warranty replacement, if not then Samsung. Or I've heard it's easy to replace yourself as a last resort

There are 2 things that would cause what you describe:
1. the mic hole is plugged or blocked by something. Look on the bottom edge of your phone and you will see a very small hole. This is for the microphone. If there is something plugging the hole, you can use a needle or something similar to clean it out. Dont blow directly into the hole, it will just force stuff deeper into the hole towards the microphone.
2. If there is nothing blocking the hole or if it still does not work after cleaning, then the microphone is bad and needs replaced. You can take it to your carrier if you have insurance or find a cell phone repair facility near you and have them replace it.
I will try to clean and see if it works I called this mobile place but he said he don't replace them cuz its very. Hard thanks

Well I will admit that its not the easiest to replace, but any cell phone repair technician should be able to solder a new microphone on for you. If he cant do that, I wouldnt take your phone there for any type of work because it doesnt sound like he is qualified to perform some repairs.
True ill try to look for a better shop wait what you think it will be the cost to replace the mic
Sent from my HTC Mecha using xda app-developers app
Well that depends entirely on the shop, but probably in the $50-75 range.
So I Googled for shops in my area no luck its the same as other shops that its hard yo change that so I guess the only thing left is use it for 3 months how it is or get a replacement for 100$
Sent from my HTC Mecha using xda app-developers app
Well if you have a backup phone you could always use that phone and then mail-in your Thunderbolt to get it repaired at a shop that can actually do it for a reasonable price. I just did this exact repair on Monday and it worked fine, no problems at all.
Where do you live and what is the name of the shop

Screen off during call problem

Screen turns off when placing phone to ear as expected however does not come back on when pulled away. Only after the 2nd party disconnects will the screen come back on after pressing power button and the only to the lock screen. This is a new issue. Anyone else having this problem or know of a solution?

Maybe faulty proximity sensor. I had that issue in my galaxy nexus. Ended up getting a new one

I'll inquire with Verizon about that.

Are you stock? Rooted? I ran into this issue a few times with persus kernel.
I'm having the same issue. Anyone find a fix for this?
Just got off the phone with Verizon. They're sending a replacement. Something wrong with proximity sensor. Actually appears to be a speck behind glass over sensor.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
I have also been having a bit of trouble with the same thing. On top of the screen not always coming on when I move the phone away from my ear during a phone call, sometimes when I pull up the keypad while on the phone and attempt to press a key, the screen will turn off. I think it's because the shadow of my hand makes it think it's back up to my ear. I see two little sensors next to the camera; one of them appears to have a little speck or dot on it. Maybe a piece of dirt in it? Can somebody who doesn't have this problem check and see if they see a very very tiny dot on the sensor closest to the in call speaker?
I've been having the same issue with my Note 2, I was wondering if this could be a software issue since I have messed with a few roms but decided to go back to stock. I've been looking everywhere for a solution, even went as far trying to find replacement files to see if that would fix it, but to no avail. I guess I'll have to replace the device.

I have found a fix for this, at least for me, as I mentioned in an earlier post I had flashed a few ROMs, decided to search the other carriers galaxy note 2 forums and found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2070360&highlight=proximity+sensor
Luckily there is a Perseus kernel for verizon too here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2048013
Will do this later and report.
Edit: the perseus kernel by itself didn't do the trick but beanstown's stock root/deodex and jelly 'beans' roms did! I now have everything working like new with cleanrom installed

I would say it's something wrong with your phone then. I use my music every day on the way to work on the bus and I haven't had any buzzing since taking the ota. I'm on complete stock never unlocked or rooted. I like this phone the way it is so I'm leaving it be. But the ota fixed it for me.

I'm on my second one and I've tried a few different ear buds. Still lots of static at low volumes. I haven't flashed the new update yet though I'm waiting on the next Viper beta with the ota merged in to see if it fixes it. Its on Verizon's change log so it must not be very rare. I don't get this static on ANYTHING else but my DNA.

Galaxy S4 Home Button making clicking noise

Just yesterday my home button started making a clicking sound. It has been dead silent and now it clicks kinda like a mouse click (not as loud) whenever I press it. If I mash hard on it it will be silent for a few minutes, but then it start clicking again. The Wife's phone is quiet.... both bought same day. Anyone else experience this? It is annoying me as it makes the phone sound cheap, and makes me feel it is going to fail on me based on almost the same scenario with my iPhone 4 that did fail after making a random noise one day.

Same thing here. Had the phone about a month and this started. Phone is rooted, so taking it back to Verizon is out. I just ordered a white home button online. Supposedly this phone is super easy to take apart and replace parts. We'll see.

I would definitely bring it back then. I just don't want to go through the hassle of unrooting and possibly getting an ME7 phone that does not have a working recovery as of yet.

Rooting is not important to me. My phone is a work device and security reasons we can't have a rooted phone (B.S. if you ask me), so I play along nicely and do all my updates and keep it unmodified (except for developer access).

I just called and ordered a replacement. I am not worried about refurbs as a lot of the times they are better than new in my experience in being in the industry for a few years. I pressed the button down and stuck the corner of a business card in and ran it around the circumference of the button with a little bit of the card going up under the case a bit. This seems to have resolved the issues.... but just in case i have an overnight-ed replacement coming tomorrow.
Never mind. It's back. Glad I ordered a replacement now.

Don't worry, there is a fix!! I had this same problem on my S4 and I have horrible OCD so this was not kosher. I found that the cause for the clicking is the button sticking, causing it to click when you press on it. All you need to do is get an electronics cleaning cloth, a business card, and some hand sanitizer. This will save you from having to send the phone in for repair or get a refurbished device.
Put some hand sanitizer on the cleaning cloth. Not too much, just enough to make it damp.
Put the cloth over the business card
Use the combination of the cloth and the card and using a little pressure, stick it between the button and the case and go all the way around the button.
If you didn't fix it the first time around, repeat until you are able to press the button without a click.
Note -- If you are mental, and use too much hand sanitizer you will damage your phone. You just need the cloth to be damp. I use hand sanitizer because it dries extremely fast. I am NOT responsible if you screw up your phone.
Happy cleaning
I have this as well! I thought it was because I went to the beach and got a tiny grain of sand beneath the button but I guess it happens to everyone!

Weird problem:
After I replaced the frame/screen the head detection for the phone app is not working, it thinks the phone is against my head.
This is a crushing problem: I can't ever end a call.
Any ideas?
Update: the handset speaker doesn't work at all, although other people can hear me speak.

I tried the proximity sensor calibration with your values, which didn't fix the problem.
I don't think I damaged any data cables during disassembly or reassembly...
Which part is the proximity sensor?
