Hello!
My wife and I both have Note 2's and she wants to sell hers to get an S4 instead. We are both rooted and running TWRP recovery and JellyBeans. The buyer of her Note 2 wants us to leave it rooted and running the most current Beans ROM, but we of course want all her data removed. Simple question: how does one remove all user data, folders, etc without removing root/custom ROM? Basically return the phone to factory fresh, except for being rooted, with the ROM and recovery installed.
Thanks

Twrp should have this too, but with cwm you can format sdcard (which is the internal sd)(TO BE SAFE REMOVE EXTERNAL SD BEFORE FORMATTING SD CARD) then wipe data and flash rom from external sd card and it will be a fresh flash with no user info. When you give it to the buyer, they put their sim in, turn it on, enter their gmail and its all good.

All you have to do is reboot to recovery and do a factory reset. In TWRP its the 2nd on the left. If you plan on turning over sdcard, just go thru and format the sdcard. but i'm sure you plan on keeping your ext-sdcard. After factory reset, just go thru and format the internal sdcard. Your all ready to go.
Oops Boosted already explained.
Thanks for the info guys!

I am about to sell my T-Mobile Galaxy Vibrant and I wanted to do a hard reset on the CM7 operating system. I do not want to remove the CM7 system or anything like that, I basically want to restore it back to first time setup ie: enter gmail username and so forth. I re-booted into recovery through CWM and I was given the options of:
- reboot system now
- apply update from sdcard
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- install zip from sdcard
- backup and restore
- mount and storage
- advanced
(In Advanced Menu)
- Reboot Recovery
- Wipe Dalvik Cache
- Wipe Battery Stats
- Report Error
- Key Test
- Partition SD card.
- Fix Permissions
(original menu)
- power off
The only reason reason I am asking is because on my HD2 (CM7) I had an option of a Hard Reset in CWM which I used to revert my phone back to first boot (technically). I do not have an option for that on this phone and I want to make sure I do not brick it prior to selling it.
any help would be greatly appreciated. Please keep in mind I do not want to remove CM7 or make the phone stock again. I basically want to reset CM7 so that it removes all of my personal info.
Thank you.
wipe data/factory reset should do the trick. If you want to delete all the stuff on your internal card you need to format internal memory as well

Not really too concerned about the internal card, because I basically went through and removed apps and other stuff one by one.
Wipe/factory will do the basic job. If you trust the buyer, that's adequate. If not, you should try to repeatedly overwrite all SD cards with shred, a Linux command, or equivalent. Too bad that is not built into recovery, as shredding /data wouldn't hurt either.

I trust the buyer, she is a co-worker of mine and just needs a phone. So the wipe/factory will basically restore me back to when it ws first flashed. That is all I really need to hear/know.
Thanks for the help guys.

BTW, I am gonna pull the SD and SIM so as long as I can revert it to the state it was after it's original flash I will be happy.
That leaves only the "internal sdcard" (odd terminology) and whatever might be hiding in /data to worry about, and that's only if your phone might end up in Nigeria or Russia or somesuch. Factory reset should be fine otherwise.
Tip for new owner: I went to a T-Mobile store and they gave me a sim for free, no paperwork. $1.99 if you do it online and requires physical addresses, no PO boxes allowed.

The SIM wont be an issue, she gave her mother her phone, because her mother had the Samsung Behold (Worst phone I have ever seen). They got tired T-Mobile telling them they have had no issues or complaints with the Behold (which is a lie) and wanted to make them pay full price for a new phone. My GF and my co-worker both sent numerours Behold's back to T-mobile. We had to send one of the replacements back 2 days after getting it because the radio was done...
Anyways away from the little rant I am pretty sure we will be good.
Thanks for the info guys
(clicked thanks on your post already)
The title should give a pretty good overview. However, for completeness, here's the deal. (BTW, I've searched and haven't found a good answer. It could be that I'm not searching properly though.)
The Vibrant is running MIUI 2.3.7. It has worked perfectly, GPS included. I upgraded to a GSII during the Valentine's day thing, and now need to wipe the Vibrant so I can give it to my daughter.
I've backed up everything available to my computer, and am now looking for the best way to essentially reset the phone. I want to put MIUI back on it ultimately.
I understand that 'factory data wipe/reset' in CWM doesn't remove everything. Should I format stuff via CWM? Should I Odin back to stock, then reflash everything? If so, does that remove saved passwords, apps, etc.?
Thanks for your help!
Wipe factory reset will clear apps and user data like password.
It will not remove anything on SD card though like music, pics.
You can format SD card and external SD card.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
No need for external SD at this time, so I'm keeping it
So, format SD card from CWM? The word format frightens me a bit. I guess the OS stays in a different partition, so I don't have to worry about deleting that, right?
You can always just hook it up to your PC and pull everything off the internal that way. Then when your teen gets it there won't be anything on it.

Ok so before you all try to get on my case I know now I am suppose to install these roms from the internal sd.
problem is I tried to installed CM7 because I hate stock roms. I am not new to flashing since I have done it on the g2x, milestone 2, x8, transformer prime but this is the first to only allow me to install from internal sd
so anwyays I tried with no success. I wiped all and left my phone on over night maybe thinking it will take some time.
So at this moment I am charging the battery using the macguver method and also I think i need clockwork recovery 5 something something
right now I have version 4.0.14
So my main question is how do i send the rom i want to the internal sd and or is there a rom that I can install from any sd card?
just want to boot up, get my paid version of cwm, get cm7 on and have a wonderful time playing with this phone!
thanks!

Flash recovery-atrix5.img, clear davlik-cache, cleardata/factory reset, then reboot system
Hey I fixed it! I let the battery charge for like 30 min on the macguver way and then I used the auto unlocked v4.2 and then, I downloaded cwm 5.020 and renamed the same as what the auto unlocker had which was like 4.9 something, open auto unlocker and selected flash cwm.
Then I wiped data and cache. Installed cm7 from ext sd. Wiped cache again. Rebooted and now it's perfect.
Would have wrote and Better response but I am on a phone!
Evening and thanks for reading my thread!
I am a new user to Android and just picked up my Galaxy S3 today. I already read some information and decided I wanted to theme my Android device, just like I did with my old iPhone 4. I wanted to install the Android Revolution HD ROM. As per suggested I used the SuperWipe zip first to remove the stock ROM and then wanted to install the new one. I forgot to pick up a external SD card at the shop today, so I thought I'd wipe the phone using SuperWipe, connect it back to the PC and put the 700MB Revolution ROM on the internal memory card and flash it from recovery mode. However, now I can't seem to get my Galaxy S3 connected to the PC at this point.
Is this the result of me being a dummy or am I doing something wrong. I had the intention to pick up a SD card tomorrow, however I'm kinda puzzeled on what to do now.
Thanks for reading and hopefully someone can offer me some advice!
I never use superwipe and never will just because i dont need it,you can wipe your data from recovery and some roms come with superwipe so i dont think its needed.i may be wrong
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Never use superwipe, I know too many people, who have f***ed up their devices with that cr*p..
Just wipe your device normally, with CWM and everything will work fine. I have never used superwipe, and I'm glad I didn't even consider it..
Even if you are using an AROMA ROM, don't in fact NEVER use Super Wipe
Anyways, hope I didn't scare you too much.Just wanted to make you caucious

Hi, personally i've used superwipe on many many occasions without any issues, all it does is re-formats some of the partitions like the /system, /data and others. Thats why you wont be able to boot into you rom again as there is no rom on you phone. As far as i know there are two possible ways(there may be more but i've used one of these methods lots of times.). One is to use an external sd card like you intend to do. Or you can use adb(this is my preferred method). You can find instructions to download and install adb online. Once you have adb you can simply use the "adb push" command to copy the zip file from your pc to you internal sd card, then flash the zip as per the instructions.
Will a system format wipe my internal sd card? I am rooted with twrp. Sorry for asking such stupid questions. I'm coming from a galaxy nexus where you could make mistakes and it would never brick. I am being much more cautious with my S4. Thanks in advance.
I have the same question as I am also coming from a Galaxy Nexus. I've read it does not, however I haven't read that with someone using it on a S4. Can someone confirm?

I've wiped data/factory reset, and my internal storage was untouched. But, I'd say its always best to back up anything important, just in case.
How about the external SD Card. I assume that's safe as well.
Wipe data factory reset makes your phone explode. J/k
It won't touch internal or external SD.
Factory Reset will not delete either the internal or external SD card files. So pictures, videos, downloads etc will all be there. However it will clear all apps, their data, and your settings
That's what I figured. I always used CWM, however since they were late to the game with Loki I instealled TWRP (and actually like it a lot compared to CWM so far!)

I migrated from CWM about 6 months ago, I definitely prefer TWRP now. I was happy so see how fast Loki support was incorporated for the S4. Already having fun playing with Roms
