Hello everyone,
Since I can't "Yet" post on the right post cuz I still don't have the requirements.. I'll post it here and try to open this discussion...
I've been looking around on how to remove Ads from APK files. I've seen a bunch of tuts but noe helped me since the APK Iam trying to remove the ads doesn't conform with the ones on the tuts. It doesn't seem to have Google Ads but ads from Madertise!
Below is a list of files in the APK I found related to the Madvertise Ads:
\res\layout\ad_madvertise.xml
\res\values\attrs.xml
\assets\adview.html
\assets\adview.js
I've tried removing, tweaking these files but couldn't get the ad removed. All my attempts to remove/modify these makes the app unusable.
So.. Does any one out there have been playing aroudn with these kind of ads and was able to remove them or know how to do it?
Thanks in advance for any cooperation

Hi all,
I am relatively new to the android community, so I don't feel confident playing around with large parts of ROMs, however I am interested in trying to edit a ROM so that it has as many of my apps and things as default to save room.
Idealy I would like my ROM to:
-Have only the apps I want and need, so I have started stripping out some I don't
-Have my background of choice and no others
-Have a custom launcher (I am looking at LauncherPro, although i understand this only works on android 2.0 and above so cant intergrate this yet)
I am using the stock T-mobile 1.5 custom ROM uploaded by Paul onto Modaco as the ROM I am editing (Sorry I cannot post a link as this is my first post)
Once I have completed this project I would like to create a tutorial to help other people new to the Android scene, who, like me, don't have the knowledge or confidence to edit the ROM majorly.
My first step is remove the unwanted apps and replace them with the ones I do want. So my first question is what apps are vital to androids running that I wont be able to delete. Also, where can I get the .apks of the apps I want to add in?
Any other help in this project will be greatly appreciated.
Thanx
Aaron
well you can check the wiki for refrence but i due know that you can remove apps like google apps gmail email market market updater .... just remeber not to delete them like remove them and move them to a safe folder on your desk top in case you removed a vital app ok thats what i do

Thanx. I have a copy of the original ROM and the one im editing just in case. Is it just a case of trying it out to see if it works and what i can and cant delete then?
Thanx
Aaron
more or less but its better to know what your removing so check this site shttp://source.android.com/
http://forum.androidcentral.com/hacking/6037-general-rom-faq.html
You have to be careful what you are removing and changing. Removing google talk basically dissables the market which I am not sure why but it does. THere are other apps that are linked that you would not think about. You also must know how to resign the rom zip file. There is an app here called autosign and it works pretty good. Its for themers but it works for moding a rom too. If you want to replace the launcher simply delete the launcher.apk and add in the one you want. The wallpaper backgrounds are usually in the launcher.apk unless you are using a sense rom. Sense uses Rosie.apk and the wallpapers are all in htc.widgetpicker.apk (i think thats what its called).
Greets all,
I used the search bar first because I assumed someone had already addressed this, but found nothing so it is either so obvious so I am stupid not knowing. I have started getting a red star with a white outline on my notification bar and they are stupid ads. I have the native ad block on and no ad app but they still happen every day now. I do not get that on my DINC so I wonder why on my TB ??? If the BAMF team is responsible for them then I am totally cool with it because they are superb beings and deserve revenue from ads if they get it, but if some bastard has found a way to spam my device I would like to know it and do somthing about it because if I want adverts then I will turn on the TV or open up an app where they belong. Ads in apps are fine because they generate revenue for coders and thats ok, but I will be darned if someone is going to force them on me for no reason. Anyone know where they are comming from and how to kill them ????
Thanks ;-)

Yeah, that's not a BAMF feature. I'd upgrade to 1.7, and make sure you clear cache and do a clean install through recovery, if I were you. Should take care of any quirks.
The question remains
So does anyone know who is spamming the operating system and how ???? Thats like working on a spreadsheet and having commercials pop up in the middle of it, totally unacceptable. As I said before, ads on apps are ok because thats how they generate revenue and are deserving, but nobody has the right to spam me just for useing the phone. I take the same tack with telemarketers as well, have cussed many out with the same reasoning. Just because I have a phone is no reason for them to just be able to pester me.

use busybox on the command line with the command netstat and look through the ip addresses/hostnames to see which one it is, then block it in the /etc/hosts file.
http://man.cx/netstat
That or start removing the free apps you use
It's part of a new scheme by advertisers called AirPush. This allows an app to send advertising through notifications. Check google for more information because I can't post a link to their website.

Think it is fixed but will see
I started reading about airpush and looked with root explorer for any file with airpush references and found that the Kernel Manager Lite program in BAMF has a file that makes mention of it so I have uninstalled that app as I do not use it anyway, lets see what will happen. I read a lot about the airpush model and those who defend it, but I still say that nobody has the right to force me to see ads if I am not on their app, and I will do whatever it takes to stop it, period !
Similar to what we had for the SGS I/II, I would like to have a comprehensive APK List for what we can delete safely and what we need to leave on.
Here is the link:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AthriV78mnxQdE1lVzJOaE8tdmlJc1VjcUFydGhlc2c
It is shared, so we can edit to our needs.
You mean like this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1634624
yep! ty!
Very good post mate and i totally agree when root is available many of us wil want to freeze the bloatware to get even batter battery life it would be great to have a spreadhseet to know what programs are safe to freeze (or remove but ill just freeze them in case)
Bumping this thread this needs to be made a sticky mods like the similar one on the SGSII forums.
Great idea OP, but your Google docs spreadsheet does not seem to be shared properly--it says I have to request access to the file .

It now says it doesn't exist
Spreadsheet loads just fine here, I'm going to bookmark that for future reference, thanks!

question. I installed this yesterday, everything is great, up until i tried playing anime videos from my dolphin browser and i cant play those videos anymore, tried to uninstall this app and even the browser and still cant play videos, the site will not play the video if there is an adblocker. What do you think can fix this?

If I understand your situation correctly, you:
Installed AdFree
Used AdFree to apply the custom hosts list
Had problems with playing videos from one (or more) web sites
Removed AdFree
Continue to have the same problems with playing videos
If this is roughly the sequence of events, then you should not need to un-install AdFree.
In fact, uninstalling AdFree probably left your hosts file in its modified state (with ad-related sites still blocked).
Instead, you can click on the Revert button in AdFree. This will return your hosts file to its original condition. This also ought to restore joy to whatever web sites are finding AdFree disagreeable.
This should allow you do run ad-free most of the time (click Download & Install Hosts), and disable ads just long enough to view the videos you wish (click Revert).
Hi all. I see this thread has been quite for quite some time. I am hoping someone can help. I have been a user of AdFree for a while. I noticed that one website I frequent is impacted in that I can no longer see the comments section of that particular website. I added the domain in question to the "white list" but that hasn't helped. Can anyone who understands this sort of thing help? I love the functionality it provides, but not being able to comment on my favorite site is an issue. Anyone? Thanks!!
@ShermCraig The workaround I use in these rare cases is to open AdFree, and tap the "Revert" button. Then I can do all the usual stuff on the offending web site (or app). After I'm done, I once again open AdFree and tap "Download & Install Hosts" to regain ad-protection.
Yes, it's ugly, but it is actually pretty quick, but I did promise only a workaround, not a solution.
Question: What do you mean when you say "added the domain in question to the 'white list'"? I don't see that AdFree supports any kind of whitelisting.

I've actually done this and yes it does work temporarily. Unfortunately (for me) I visit the site so frequently that it becomes too much. Trying something else.
In answer to your question: http://adfree.bigtincan.com/ - log in, and there is an exception list.
thanks
Hi hope I am not annoying anybody I looked around to find where to post the question so here it is,if I choose a YouTube video and go to share under the video my share folder pops up with loads of apps is there anyway to organise or reduce the apps shown as adguard seems to be always well down the list.many thanks in advance sorry if this is not the place to ask.
