[ROM][AOSP JDQ39E][cfX-Toolchain 4.8.1][SR20]
I downloaded the Rom, and after using twrp to wipe data and cache and system, I flashed the ROM. Nothing. I had been running SnowJB v1.1. Does it matter what I was running before? I see that some Roms come with an instruction that you have to have updated to the stock JB OTA upgrade. Is this true for this Rom? I tried to restore my original factory ROM but when I attempt to upgrade software OTA it says no upgrade available. I'm sure I've done something wrong, but what, I don't know. I downloaded the Rom and Gapps directly to my phone. Normally I have downloaded to my PC and then transferred via USB to my phone. Could that have been a problem?
As you can see I am new to this. Any help appreciated.

I asked on the CFX site (not yet on XDA as I need 10 posts before I can post on that thread) and they said something about LGNPST. I found this but not sure how to do all the steps. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230994
This sounds like you haven't accepted the 20j OTA.
You NEED to have done this OTA update to boot Any of the 4.2.2 roms in this forum currenly, as it updates the TZ, which allows the phone to run mako kernels.
You can also use TeenyBin

Dont boher with OTA, you can just LGPST the jellybean update now. Download somewhere in threads or irc

Hi, I've flashed my S2 (Android 2.3.4) with litening rom (V2.0 XXKG1) a while back.
I've been wanting to root ICS on it with Odin (it's from the UK so I'd use the official firmware from Orange, if there's no better choice), but I'm afraid that since it contains a custom rom that was designed for gingerbread it might have some incompatibility issues.
Do I need to restore my phone to factory settings or can I just root ICS on top of what's already there?
Also, once I root the official new firmware will all those pesky stock apps from samsung come back?
Thanks for any help!
1) Follow whatever instructions the specific ICS rom has re: flashing it.
If it says it's OK to flash directly from GB, then go for it. If it says do something different, do that. If it doesn't mention flashing something else over the top of GB before flashing the ICS rom, I think you can pretty safely assume you don't need to (unless the dev of the ICS rom expects you to be a mind reader).
2) Re: restoring factory settings first, refer to 1 (but likely for most roms so you don't end up with a lot of FCs on system apps).
3) That will depend on whether the rom you flash has those pesky apps included and whether you need to do a factory reset/wipe or not (refer to 2; likely)
Hello,
I have flashed my SG S II with Lite'ning Rom v2.3 XWLP2. Previously i was on a gingerbread previous version of Lite'ning rom, which worked flawlesly for several months.
Everything seemed fine and i restored with Titanium only my missing apps+data (not the system data).
After a few hours, the phone started to at times not be able to see the sd card. More importantly, it would suddenly hung and reboot, appear to be working for a couple of minutes and reboot again. This would happen for 10 mins. Then without changing anything, everything would be normal again for 5-6 hours, after which rinse and repeat.....
Does anybody else have the same problem or did i do something wrong? Could anybody know if fs there anything i could do to fix it other than reflashing again?
Thanks in advance guys...
Factory reset in the first instance, then a reflash with a clean install of everything (No Ti restores).

So basically all I need is to flash a Rom that has been updated to ICS and it will update my phone too? I thought I needed to update the firmware and then flash a Rom
As I said yesterday, follow whatever specific instructions the rom you're wanting to flash has; for example, CM7 is pretty specific about having to flash the rom twice, CM9 requires a wipe/factory reset if you're coming from another rom.
Rom is another name for firmware.
Modem is separate, a few roms come with a modem & overwrite/replace your existing modem, most do not. Kernels are also included with pretty much all roms & will overwrite/replace your existing kernel.

Hmm I suspected that firmware was the same as Rom but wasn't sure, thanks again.

If you are rooted, NEVER EVER take an ota update. It will unroot your phone (possibly permanently), and could likely brick it as well. When the ICS update is released, wait a few hours and someone here will post a rooted version that you can flash.

Again, WHEN it comes out, just wipe everything, and flash a stock rooted version. But you don't have to wait until then. If you want to return to stock, just wipe everything and flash the latest stock rooted rom.

You might have a bad download or a bad flash. I use that zip anytime I want to go back to stock and never have any of those problems. Maybe redownload it or do a full wipe and reflash
We're comin from a pure power source.
If you are having issues with your current ROM. You could always run the ROM Upgrade Utility (RUU) found in the link below.
http://bit.ly/u3pMEN
Make sure to download the correct file.
(RUU_Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5_Radio_1.06.00.1216)
After it has finished downloading. Re-lock your phone.
Then run the RUU.exe
This will take you back to the Stock HTC ROM.
DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR DEVICE DURING THE PROCESS. IT COULD BRICK YOUR DEVICE.
Remember this will delete all your current data/apps so use TWRP on the android market to back up all your downloaded content.

There is ABSOLUTELY no need to run an RUU in this situation. The OP just flashed the wrong rom, or it didn't flash properly. All they need to do is wipe and flash again. There is no need to re-lock, run an ruu, then try to re-root...

Greetings,
I have a German T-Mobile GSIII that asked to update itself tonight. The current baseband is BOLF1, it attempted to update to BLH3. The update failed with a code 7. I have CWM loaded and also the Siyah 1.5.2 kernel. I am downloading the full BLH3 file from SamMobile, do I just flash that with CWM or do I need to do something else. I have seen comments on the various boards about opening the .zip and changing a setting to supress version checking, but I am not sure if I need to do that or if that is related to the JB leaks.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks
Mike

Never take official OTA's when on a custom ROM. If you really want the official OTA, either wait until a rooted version is released, or if you can't wait just go to SamFirmware, download the full ROM (not the OTA file) and flash it with ODIN. It'll overwrite everything except your external SD card.

Thanks for the help. I am on stock except for the kernel, not sure if the kernel counds as a custom ROM or not. I guess it does. I had renamed a ton of the origional apps (added .bak to the end) causing verification errors. I am slowly going through and fixing each of them. I have the full ROM from SamFirmware (the origional BLFB not the latest) so I should be able to fix this.

It's because OTA ZIP's that are downloaded to the phone only contain the parts of the ROM that need updating, not an entirely new ROM. You can, however, download the update as an entire ROM from SamFirmware.
Hi,
I am trying to root a second T959 phone, my wife's, but am not having much luck. It is currently running Froyo 2.2 w/ KB5.
I tried using AIO Toolbox to root, but that did not work. The first problem I encountered is that it complained that 'verification failed' when I tried to reinstall package.
I searched through the forums, and found that I have recovery 3e. Noticed that on the recovery menu too. So I did what this thread indicated:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423&highlight=root+3e
Ran the install.bat, and it did its work. I was still not able to apply the update.zip, but I was able to run 'SuperOneClick' to root the phone, or I thought. SuperOneClick reports that I have rooted the phone, but none of the apps think so. So right now, I am still stuck, with a phone that I cannot root.
I found this other thread talking about using ODIN to flash in a CWM instead of using recovery. I am a bit hesitant about this, as I am worried about flashing anything at this point without a backup.
I realize that I could ODIN to stock and I would be able to root and upgrade ROMs without problems, but I would really like to backup using Titanium before doing so.
Maybe I missed something somewhere, but is there a way that I can root this phone on the current fw?
Solved
Ok, found this thread with further searching, and it solved my problem.
Phone rooted and upgraded to JB! Woohoo!

My question to you is did you just download and install the rom? im still on kb5 and am rooted and looking for any OS upgrade GB at least but dont have access to a pc all the time. Do i have to have one or are there any roms that i can flash from my rooted stock froyo?

You don't need a computer to flash a ROM. Find a ROM you like, I recommend a JB ROM as they are supported, anything prior will not be. Download the ROM zip and gapps zip if required. Use a root file app, I use root browser, and move the zips from
sdcard/download to sdcard. Boot to recovery, wipe cache, advanced>wipe dalvik cache, wipe data/factory reset, install zip from SD, install ROM then install gapps, reboot and profit!
*you might have to flash the ROM more than once as it has to update recoveries and partitions.

ty for your reply it was very helpful. i got impatient and flashed a ram before i saw it and everything went perfect. But i do appreciate not only the reply but the steps as well. i am now running iczen with subzero on my vibrant and its the most beautiful thing ive ever seen. lol. i dont even recognize my phone anymore and it feels like i just got a 800 dollar phone for free. i have even recommended every person i know with an android phone to join the site as well as read all steps carefully. thank you again sorry for the long post but i have just been so thrilled about the results i have got.
I was recently on a rom and today i updated to CM 11, and couldn't make any calls, or texts. I could connect to 4G though which is weird to me... I then went back to beans rom 22 which is 4.1.2 thinking it'll work, but nothing. Can you please help me! Please. I have no idea what baseband i should be on.. thanks
You may have to odin either to a rooted stock rom or a complete odin unrooted stock image to fix it. I had a similar situation and after many attempts I was forced into going back to stock and rerooting and unlocking via adam outlers casual process which is located in the Verizon i605 development section. You will need to know what version you first rooted on and use that odin image to restore. Hoope this helps get yiu in the rigjt direction.

Just do a factory reset from a touch wiz rom and it wii fix the problem... no need to poison back to stock.

I was having this exact same issue and still haven't resolved it. No, restoring to 100% stock does NOT fix the issue.

whos room are you using ? im using sspencer10 and everything is perfect just as a normal 4.4 kitkat very smooth and work 100% perfect u should try it out
If you load a TW ROM, then boot into recovery and wipe everything, then install the TW ROM it should fix it, don't do a restore from a backup as it won't fix it. I have used nephilims latest and it works every time. Also, once you install 4.4 you will probably loses phone and text if you try to install any other rom

I'm in the same boat. Odin'd back to stock Verizon rom, but still no phone or text messaging. LTE works fine though.
After you get your tw rom loaded go into settings and do a factory reset. Do it from settings and not from recovery. You must run through the setup to reprovision your phone do not do a restore and it should fix the problem.

Hey all, I was wondering if there was an update to this? (Or if anyone else has found something that has worked)
Here is what I have tried so far (and all attempts have failed)...
** All the following attempts at installation used CWM Recovery 6.0.4.3 **
1) Install the ROM (SlimROM 4.4 over 4.3, clean install, wiped cache/data/system/dalvik 3x)
2) Flashed Nandroid of Stock TW ROM (rooted), then installed Slim 4.4 (Clean flash failed, then tried dirty flash, which also failed)
3) Reverted back to stock (The Official VRAMC3), Re-rooted, Installed CWM 6.0.4.3 (Dirty flashed first, which failed. Then did a clean installation, which again failed)
4) Flashed the new MJ9 Modem (with the 4.4 ROM installed), which failed.
Has anyone else had a similar problem, which then fixed it?

Any other advice? This method did not work for me unfortunately.
Any update on this??
The above method did not work for me either.
Hey all, I got it working (the data/network connection that is), with a little effort. Here is what I did in sequence...
1) Reflash the ORIGINAL VRALJB image via ODIN. I used the one found here. You want to make sure you get the one that replaces EVERYTHING, i.e., NOT the alternative restore.
2) I set up my phone and used it normally for about four hours. (This may or may not be necessary, I'm not entirely sure. I also rebooted the phone about five times during that time frame.)
3) I unlocked and rooted the phone via the method outlined here. After that was done, I installed CWM 6.0.4.3 via TWRP (which the unlocking process installs).
4) I then installed CM 11 and the respective Google apps. (I first did a backup, then a factory reset, then cache wipe, then dalvik wipe. The next thing I did was install CM 11, then Gapps.)
5) Restart the phone and success!
