Landscape in Portrait mode? Portrait in Landscape mode? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Recently on my newer roms, I have been flashing, I have been getting this effect. It acts like the gyroscope is messed up. in landscape, it switches to portrait, and in portrait, it switches to landscape. However, I can restore to a slightly older 10.1 ROM, and have no issues with this. Also, AOKP Milestone 1 works ok. I have tried several different ROM's, and am getting this. I even hard wiped everything. EMMC, system, data, Android Secure, As soon as I booted up to the latest nightly CM 10.1, it did this before I could even get my gmail account setup. Anyone else running into this?

this is a known issue after the msm8660-common kernel and device merge recently
effects cm10.1 nightlies, and i heard avatar but dont quote me on that
my slim and pk builds are on newest kernel without rotation issue if you wanted to give either of those a shot

I will. I tried the Combo one of yours I think, because I like AOKP, but I don't like paranoid Android. Is there a way to get rid of the double column in the settings, and increase the font size in email? I looked around, and didn't see it. (probably didn't look enough.) My sight's not too good anymore, and the small fonts, I can't read worth a crap. But thank you Jaimie for breathing life into this phone! Well, and answering my questions too! Thought I was going crazy for a bit there.

If you go into hybrid settings then tools, click expert mode, then go into interface and you can set all system and user apps to phone mode and dpi of your choosing

Thanks again. I will probably try it tomorrow. Trying out your slim ROM now. And yeah, no landscape where portrait is supposed to be. lol.

[Q] Tazz Gingerbread 6 Fade issue

Tazz, great job with this rom; love the screenies I saw of blackend gb, too. As said in the forum I tried to post this in; it's like getting an all new phone. I was stoked to see the "tv effect fade to lock screen"; and got an opportunity to show it to my wife...... just before it stopped working. LOL.
I'm not sure if this a CM issue or the Rom Tazz made...
So to reiterate my question is simple; how do I get the screen off fade back? I tried disabling/re-enabling from CM settings; still no luck... I also tried enabling/disabling animation effects; and switching back to adw launcher (from my preferred launcher pro, thinking maybe lp was preventing it somehow).
& Hope you feel better real soon!

I've seen people saying this in both ROM threads. I'm not sure what causes it but have you tried a reboot? I believe that is what brought it back for a lot of people. I haven't had mine go away to try anything to get it back.

Also check you animation settings. Fast doesn't work, have to have it set to normal.

Yeah, I've re-booted several times. I'm not sure where the animation speed setting is.
Display in main menu has some/none/all setting, CM display setting has screen-on/off toggles, cm has time out settings, and I tired adjusting them, no luck. I even tried using ADW launcher, instead of launcher pro. It's not a huge deal. Just disappoint to see something so awesome disappear... like losing a custom boot animation, or an emulator not working right suddenly. THANKS FOR GETTING BACK TO ME THOUGH!

Its in spare parts. Also I did a fresh flash and it cameback, rebooted started returning all my settings slowly. It wasn't until I enabled auto killer. I'm going go try a fresh install and format SD card as well. This time I'm not going to touch auto memory. Its possible my exchange has something to do with it's às well.

[REQ] on screen buttons for CM9

I was on Paranoid Android, but switched to regular CM9 because I was having too many glitches with PA. One of my favorite features though had been the on screen buttons. I have no idea on what I'm doing with decompiling a ROM or anything, so is there anyway one of you wonderful devs could make a mod for on-screen buttons that works with the latest CM9 build?
If you really want them, I'll give you a zip later that enables them. They just wont look very good most of the time, if they show up. I haven't tried 6.1 yet, and plan too tonight, so I'm not sure how it will be. Just let me know what version you are on, and if you want the capacitive buttons disabled or not.
Yeah, I would like that. I'm on 6.1 and I don't really want the capacitor buttons. Thank you!
Ok, sorry it took me so long, had to work. I'm not running 6.1 so let me know if this doesn't work(but it should). I've also included a REVERT zip, just in case you want to go back to stock.
DevilToastNavButtons-6.1 4.03 MB
DevilToastNavButtons-6.1-REVERT 4.25 MB
Thank you so much! They work like a charm, also I haven't noticed any graphical glitches with them. The blue glow stutters every now and then, but other than that they seem to work perfectly.
Hmmm... really? The animation usually is the start. try rotating the screen in different apps, see if it glitches.
Yeah no everything is working fine. The animation stuttering only happens maybe once in every thirty times, and even then it's only half a second. The buttons even disappear into dots in the gallery and camera properly
Sweet. Maybe I can upgrade to 6.1 now. Thanks
Aye, perhaps you can my friend! And just as a note, though I don't see how any of it will make a difference, when I was running 6.0 before dirty flashing 6.1 I had Chad's kernel installed, however it doesn't work with 6.1, I had also flashed the jelly bean animations, Awesome Beats Google Now onto 6.1. I then flashed your mod separately and wiped my dalvik and cache before and after it. Thank you again! Now if only the audio didn't glitch every couple of seconds this ROM would be absolutely perfect! (I have no need for 3D, 4G, or Bluetooth)

Very smooth! All it needs is the call and lock circles aligned and its go time.
I have actually had to random reboots and my screen is flickering a little when just on the home screen. Its not perfect for sure but not bad for the first nightly, at least in my opinion.
I'm getting the flickering on the homescreen and whenever I'm using the Swype beta keyboard... everything else is working great! If I can get the damn flickering to stop, this Rom will become my DD...

Checking "Disable HW Overlays" in developer options gets rid of the flickering for me as a workaround.

That seems to have worked, thank you!
I'm curious, though, will turning off HW overlays reduce the effectiveness of the JB Project Butter tweaks?

Why, I'm glad you ask! I was just about to let everyone know that disabling HW overlays (or, also, changing debug.mdpcomp.maxlayer from three to 2 in build.prop) will severely impact graphical performance. It may get rid of the flicker, but your performance will take a hit.
My biggest frustration with Jelly Bean on our device thus far that keeps pushing me back to CM9 has been that it is WAY behind in graphical smoothness when Jelly Bean's primarily advertised feature is the graphical smoothness that Project Butter provides. I have to say that I just flashed this nightly build though and it's the smoothest experience I've had yet in Jelly Bean. It's not quite up to par with stable ICS in smoothness but is getting closer.
At the moment, the solution I propose for the flickering of the screen is to use ROM Toolbox to change the debug.mdcomp.maxlayer setting from 3 to 2, then reboot and change it back from 2 to 3, then reboot again. Once you cycle it, the flicker deosn't appear to return and since you're putting the hardware compositing setting back, you don't have to kill your performance to get rid of the flickering! I had success with this method but others may not. Report here to let everyone know.

I am afraid we may have to wait for an S2 official OTA to fix this. It's gotta be something that Sammy has messed with, as we are having the same issue on JB builds for the Tab 7 Plus and the Tab 7.7.
These are Exynos devices, too, so its not an Adreno220 problem from what I can tell.

Tried it and it didn't work. I'm guessing these minor bugs will be fixed in the nightlies.
yeah, I tried the build.prop settings shuffle, and it didn't work. The only thing working on mine is the Disable HW Overlay setting in dev options. Thanks for the idea, though!

Since you have it checked now try going back in and unchecking it. Do you get the smoothness back without all the flickering? I just tried it and it seems to work for now.
I found the gremlin that was causing the constant homescreen flickering for me on this nightly and on Manel's 8/27 kang.
In my case, it was a setting in Apex Launcher that had to be turned off:
Apex Settings -> Homescreen Settings -> Hide Notification Bar
So, if you're running Nova or Apex, make sure to turn off the setting that auto-hides the notification bar. Doing that and setting the maxoverlay value to "2" in the build.prop fixed me right up!

I think it does slow it down, but changing it back to 3 brings the flickering back, so that's not an option for me.
Excellent ....
Looks like it's time to play with some CM !
Thank you OP ....g
I would like to see some dock settings, especially audio through USB. Love the jellybean goodness though, running great.

Has anyone tried this rom out?

Heyyy,
I'm thinking about flashing this with safestrap on NC5 but I have never really heard much about it. May people running this rom on safestrap tell me if it is totally stable with safestrap? Because it seems like it was not built for safestrap.

I'm running it and it is mostly stable. It has a few things that don't work
1) The signal bar doesn't display signal strength. The bars are shaded gray but you're getting reception when it says you're not. It does say 4G, 3G, 1X, etc.
2) Dialer crashes from the very beginning. It sometimes works, but most of the time, you'll get the "Unfortunately, dialer has stopped working," error message. I installed Swipedialer Pro to use as my primary dialer. It has an authentic AOSP feel and look.
3) Tethering isn't working for some reason.
4) When you first long-press the power button to bring up the power menu, you'll notice that the phone just reboots! To fix, go to the ROM Customizer app, then go to ROM Settings> System/ Kernel Mods> Powermenu Toggles and enable all the toggles. (GravityBox can also interfere with the power menu for some reason, so I disabled it just to avoid any issues).
5) The Gmail app that comes with the ROM FC's every time. You have to delete Gmail from the /system/app folder with something like Root Explorer, and reboot. Then install Gmail from the Playstore.
6) Sounds settings FC every time. However, you can still change ringtones through call settings. Not really a big issue for me.
I know that sounds like a lot, but other than this, it's actually one of the BEST Roms for the S4. It's actually my daily driver and it's the only rom I've used that is closest to the AOSP feel and look for our phone (I HATE Touchwiz!!!) Lol.

Yes, GDux 2.0 is what I'm running though there is a 2.1 now. I did the slim I believe. It's there highlighted in blue text. Kind of hidden within his words instead of by itself. I'm running it right now. If you want it themed a little differently I have a zip that has everything I like in it. Toggle icons, wifi, data, and various misc. ones. The 2.0 version has round lighted toggles and the icons I like fit right in the middle of those. Looks pretty neat and it enables all toggles as well. I think you need to add a browser and maybe email. I like to put them in the rom before installing because it makes life easier.

Is there a link somewhere for the 2.1 version and is it confirmed working on Verizon?
How is the battery life? I've been most disappointed in all the 4.4.2 KitKat Roms I've tried along with Surges Base rom with the Android System & Android OS taking away a day of battery and an hour of screen time as opposed to 4.3 & Roms.

I don't think any of them can equal or beat a 4.3 but GDux is worth trying and yes I've installed it as well but I just prefer 2.0. You should be able to get it from here. They all have little quirks.

CM 11-20160115-SNAPSHOT-XNH0E0O00N-i9300 (4.4.4) -can't locate 'sticky home' button

Hi guys,
Read the recent news about CM14 being available for i9300. Amazed, I thought I'd have a look.
Noticed that it was only currently in BETA so opted for CM13 instead (Marshmallow).
As impressive as it is, that Marshmallow can run on an SIII, IMO... it is quick enough moving through homescreens, but when it comes to launching apps, it was taking roughly 5 seconds for a typical app.
More resource-hungry apps like Skype (always a slow starter), or Chrome, took about 8 seconds. I decided to revert back to my tried and trusted CM11.
Installed it, and it's looking a bit different to how I rememer, I might now being a slightly newer build than before, and some changes are welcome (app drawer icons stacked vertically, rather than swiping left-right through screens). It also looks a little marshmallowish in my opinon. All good!
However, I'm looking for a feature I truly miss: in my old KK, I used to be able to longpress on any screen, and click a 'HOME' icon to make that the sticky home screen. (hardware home button takes you to this screen).
my question: --------------- is this feature missing, along with the other cosmetic differences I mentioned, because of the newer build. Or is it maybe that I'm using a newer version of Gapps? (Im now using OpenGapps). When I browsed to the OpenGapps homepage it default selected OGapps 4.4 ARM. ---I would have thought that the 'sticky home' button I'm talking about would be more to do with the Launcher than Gapps?
Cheers if you can help

Can't help you with that, except to use an alternative launcher.
But besides, I think that's the wrong section for your question cuz this is the Developer Forum.
There is a Thread for cm11. I advice you to post your question there.
Good luck
