Two days ago I received my One from T-Mobile. The auto sleeping/locking after inactivity feature is preventing me from using this device. Due to my severe physical disability (Spinal Muscular Atrophy), I am unable to push the power button to wake it up. I know this will drain the battery faster, but I have no other choice. Any suggestions to fix this are greatly appreciated.
Also, I cannot get Android Screencast to work like I did with my Sensation. The screen shows, but mouse/keyboard are nonfunctional.

Aside from maybe installing a custom rom, there is no way to force the screen awake.

Is it just the power button that causes you difficulty, or can you perhaps use one of the volume buttons? There may be apps that can change the functionality of the buttons and can be remapped to turn on the screen. Barring that, the screen turns on when power is applied to the USB, so maybe you could use that fact somehow.

The volume buttons aren't possible either. I'm not able to apply enough pressure to press down. Some days my mouse is even difficult. I am also not able to plug/unplug the USB. I appreciate the suggestions and welcome any input at all. If someone has specific questions about my exact limitations, to help figure out a solution, please private message me!
So you're looking for a way to never have your screen go off, is that right? And you can't press USB hard enough to insert? That means you'll be unable to charge a rapidly draining battery. That's not good. (Never sleep while plugged in seems like best option, to me)
If I can think of anything else, I'll come back.
Peace.

I'm thinking that you could have someone construct a large switch in the middle of the USB cable, which would turn the power on and off.

Well, a large toggle switch on the usb cable would allow you to disconnect and reconnect the power, which would cause the screen to come on.

This is a good idea, however, I am not able to toggle a switch. What I am envisioning that you are referring to is something like a lamp that has the on off switch in the power cord instead of on the fixture. Is this what you mean?
Is there no way to edit the root to prevent the screen from automatically turning off when the device is idle? Also, any ideas on getting Android Screencast to accept mouse and keyboard input when connected to the PC via USB? From what I have read it is something to do with Jellybean. Perhaps an alternative app?

thanks for the reply, I can't find extended controls, where is it?
the reason they disabled the option is because the super AMOLED screen can be prone to burn-in and washing out. i suggest NOT leaving it on for extended times (especially if the screen is not changing images)

Good to know. I don't leave it on while charging, but I like to have my music more accessible when driving since this thing doesn't have music control on the lockscreen.
I would never, ever leave the display of any of my OLED devices on when I am not directly interacting with them.
I had bad burn in on my old Nexus One from simply having the display on while charging.
I learned my lesson then; never again.
HI, since I've always had issues (from stock rom up) with hw capacitive buttons (home/back/search/menu), I would like to disable them, maybe my Folio is faulty on them (randomly the back button fires by itself, even if the tablet was left alone on the table).
So I ask Artem or anybody who knows it: I can build from sources, what is the minimal diff I can make to the sources? Is it sufficent to comment out line 'CONFIG_KEYBOARD_FOLIOCAP=y' in tegra_betelgeuse_android_defconfig?
Thank you.

one "solution"
Hello, posting for the first time =)
Anyway, i've had a problem with folios crazy buttons and screen response since day one.
Nothing really changed for me with rom updates and different apps. I have tried it all...
I had enough and finally unplugged that little cable that connects into circuitboard
of those buttons and power-led. This is really no solution but takes care of that problem =)
It also disables power indicator led, so that's a little inconvenience =/. But since unplugged,
touchscreen started to work in every way better like its more responsive and doesn't "freeze" anymore.
But this requires you to disassemble your folio to get to touch with the cable to the circuitboard.
Removing plastic back cover isn't enough, but you Dont have to detache the screen from faceplate.
I'll plug it back on when there's a software fix for buttons behavior. Meanwhile enjoying peace from
button madness =D. Sorry if poor english, i'm Finnish

Hi,
I'm looking to try out a Note. But want to know if there is a feature in some kernel or flashable zip of some kind to achieve this. I searched around but got mixed results so I'm not certain. thank you in advance.
I remember having that option on my Vivid. However, I do believe that is an HTC/Sense option. Someone correct me?

It doesn't really need to be 'swept' to wake. all I want is something that I can touch (or hold) on the front screen or bottoms to wake this thing up. anything? if not, I think what I'll do is go for the international version which, its middle button wakes the note up.
thanks!
you can flash a cm based rom and set device to stay awake while charging. you can also set to wake with volume keys. unless you mount phone with both sides blocked. i personaly set to stay awake and have modified my sunglass holder to hold phone. sits just above rear view mirror and works great even though power button is down and cant be pressed. if you want to stay with touchwiz screen times out at 10 minutes and no option to stay awake. however if you have sqlite editor you can change the database to stay awake but i have had issues with this not wanting to stick after reboot.

so you want to wake/unlock the device without using any hardware buttons?
i use lightlock or proximity screen off/on from the play store. it uses the front sensors to wake/unlock or sleep.
i set lightlock to just 1 sec so all i have to do is put my hand/finger over the front sensor then my note wakes up

Does this mean it wakes up in your pocket?
no. it will only wake if it senses a proximity change
so if you use lightlock and just cover the sensor, nothing will happen. if you cover the sensor for a set period that you choose and then remove your hand, then your device will wake.
you should try it out. it makes using your phone feel futuristic. impresses a lot of people especially when you show somebody with an iphone lol

Hello Dear XDA members,
So I have an Amaze that you guys helped me root and install custom ROM on back in Jan, thanks! Now the power button is going out, it's very hard to turn the screen on and off. I have been using the camera button to turn the screen on but I can't turn it off with that button. If the phone runs out of battery I have a really hard time turning it back on.
I called HTC and they said I they will send me an RMA code but they didn't, after a few days I called back and they said while its still under warranty they can't help me because the phone was a demo unit originally. Well I got it from Craigslist not Tmobile so maybe that's why.
Anyway, is there a way to fix the button? I mean 11 months is a very short period for a $599 phone! Anyone knows how to fix this? I really appreciate it. Thanks !!
Ouch. I bought mine from craigslist too but checked my imei before buying. You can use a widget that will act as as power button. See if you can still push the button with ease if you take the phone out of its frame.

I came from the nexus one to the amaze when it came out. Having broken power button phobia from the start, I've found "screen off and lock" from market for turning off the screen, and "quick boot" also from the market for reboot, etc. Don't know of any methods off hand to turn it on, once off...
I did however notice that with the back plate off it's easier to get a firm click pushing the power button with just my finger.

Check to see if its the actual button thats not working properly, or if its the back cover. My phone sometimes doesn't have the power button register when i press it down the first time, but its just the button on the back cover that's wearing down and not making contact with the phone. Take a look and hopefully thats all it is, and all you have to do is replace the back cover which runs you anywhere from 10-15 bucks on ebay :good:
google 'button remapper apk' and use it to set your camcorder button as your new power button.

What andy55 said works but only if the phone isn't completely off. This only works in sleep mode.
Also, try taking off the back cover and press and hold the rubber area with your fingernail where the power button should be. I found the button on the cover wasn't making adequate contact with the phone.
Hi,
My power button was not working properly (at all sometimes) so I decided to open my DNA and Fix it...
I opened it a and found that the actuator was broken.
Now my power button looks like the picture I attached... do you know the way I can short the pins to power on the phone? Also do you know how can I fix it?
Best Regards.
UPDATE 1:
I found the problem of my power button sometimes working and sometimes not...
Just like Nexus One power button, the inner cable was not flexible enough, so after a while it just get cutted. So, the only chance to fix it is to replace the whole main flex cable... not cheap and hard to get.
So I looked for where that flex cable goes in to the mainboard... and I found it.
It's the PIN number 13 on the connector on the right side of the motherboard. That's the pin that controls the Power/Lock button.
When that pin is "grounded" the circuit is closes and it activates the power button.
I recommedn to solder on the flex cable and not the mainboard as it is very difficult.
If you have any question just ask. I really don't have the time to make a complete guide, but I can surely make the time if you are interested.
Come on.. Any help would be appreciated...

Looks lik you must replace the entire flex.
That would be the easy fix... but they are out of stock anyway...
I made some discoveries that might help. I updated my first post.
Interesting. Great findings so far.
I have a very oddly behaving power button. After short periods of sleep/screen off the power button works reliably. After long periods of sleep/screen off it takes a firm long press of the power button or perhaps two presses of it for it to function as intended. I suspect it will soon stop working entirely. Any additional advice to salvage the device afterwards or fix it preemptively would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Droid DNA that's having power button issues, at this point the only way I could get it to turn on was to plug/unplug from charging cord.
I was going to get it fixed and found that I would have to buy the part and then take it to Cellairis who would then fix it for $40. (not a bad deal)
When searching for the power button, I found out that there's a Gravity Screen App that will power your phone off and on! (of course there is, and more than one)
