If you have the extra money, buy the S4, no point in buying an s3 at this point if you can afford an s4
And the 4.2.2 update might possibly include most non-hardware dependent stuff but for that update you might have to wait months

Great news guys. Look like Samsung has begun rolling out ics update for our Note. Does anyone received a notification for update yet? I won't because I'm on custom rom. Check out this article below.

Not our Note version and only in Germany, so far. But this means it will be rolling, and spilling, to everyone. It is good news; at least until there is some announcement about Jelly Bean and then we can all do this dance over again.
It sux that we wait 6-8 months for the newest OS then only get to enjoy it for a couple months before the best one rolls in.

But why wouldn't it just say specifically where? I was all excited until I came to XDA to see if someone had posted... And found out it was for international and only on Germany

God only knows how long it'll be before we see it on this side of the Pond. Will this at least speed up the devs getting the source files they need to make custom kernels? The various "leaks" (aka free beta testing for Samsung) have been great- each better than the last, but I believe what they are REALLY waiting on is the source so they can really tweak the kernel.
Before anyone starts flaming on me, I am NOT asking for an ETA of anything.. just wondering out loud if the source files are typically released in short order and if the release for the Int'l Note will be sufficient for us here.
I dont believe a kernel source for the int note will help us since it is different software

Yes we have basically the same physical phone and the idea is the same but the internals are completely different, even if source comes out when I post this message it will have absolutely no benefit to us for kernel help. Apks maybe but beneficial software is a negative.

Most likely if you want to get the ota update or how ever ics comes to us you have to be out of the box stock which is achievable with the stock odin file. When the update comes out you can bet there will be a cwm or odin file on here to get it on your phone the same day so its up to you.

There is a separate forum for the International Note. But thanks for the info anyways. This could mean it is possibly going to be made for our device.

I doubt we will see this from AT&T. The Note 2 will launch this Oct on AT&T so AT&T won't release this til after that, also JB is comming to the Note so we won't get it til JB is ready for the I717. So we may get everything (XXLRQ and JB) in Jan this give AT&T time to get more sales out of the Note 2. This is just how AT&T is :crying:

New features can be confirmed here,

Wow.. You tried flashing a ROM for the n7000 on your i717? Don't do that, you're lucky it failed and not bricked. The only purpose of this thread is to talk about porting the new features to our device, there's nothing ready yet for us AFAIK.
Edit: looks like you have an n7000 device, go ask in those forums.

Kind of a stupid question for some of you xD but I just want to be sure that I'm going to be able to get all the ROMs i can get with the normal Galaxy S3 pebble blue. Is it going to be the same?
This would be the link I'll be using http://www.expansys-usa.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-black-unlocked-16gb-238383/ to buy it!
I just want to make sure there wasn't any hardware/software changes to the black version. Obviously, there shouldn't be but I don't want to go wrong for buying this one!

But it appears as if it is the US version with the dual core and 2GB of RAM.

I'm getting serious about buying an i-9300. Reading a review on Newegg, dude said his came from Chile and it hadn't got Jelly Bean yet. Never bought an unlocked phone before -- does this make sense? Should I worry about where it comes from?
Thanks!
The makes are different, and update comes slowly to seperate regions. 4.1 came to Poland first. But this doesn't have to be the case next time. So, just buy it from anywhere. And if u wanna get the latest build as soon as possible, u can always root and flash the latest official or leak software. For instance,I'm ruining the latest leaked version 4.1.2 with mutiview. So go ahead and buy..

Galaxy S3 – We have received this update from Samsung and after our rigorous testing, has been approved and passed to Samsung for release. We hope for this to begin pushing out to O2 handsets over the coming week or two (hopefully before the end of the month) so keep your eyes peeled on your update screen. We'll let you know if there are any unforeseeable issues or delays that crop up.

Honestly what interests me the most is the official kernel which should provide the official drivers so even if only the US variant gets the official update, shouldn't be that bad.

Not sure that would really help that much since the US variants use very different hardware (Qualcomm processor, Qualcomm Audio and Radio). It would only be useful if Samsung includes updated drivers for our international models.

Yeah.. I read the same somewhere else too...
Samsung says that it is because of the lack of RAM the international S3 has (only 1gb).
I don't know the real reason, though, as there have been many AOKP as well as AOSP for 4.4.2 and they are quite stable on S3.
Samsung Marketing reasons?
I guess... If at all the us variants gets the update.. With kernel source... developers can page it to the international varinats too

Yeah..lack of RAM because all **** preinstalated by samsung
