CWM Recovery - No files found? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys i just recently rooted my phone
Before doing so i made a back up on ClockWorkMod 5.5.0.4 however when i try to restore it, it says no files found?
I haven't changed any of the file names/moved the files and i can see the files still on my internal SD card e.g. Sdcard/0/Clockworkmod/backup
I have even updated my CWM to version 6.0.3.1 yet still does not find the files
Anyone can help?
Thank you

I'm not familiar with original cwm. When you flash 4.2 roms, /sdcard becomes /sdcard/0
I know in philz recovery based on cwm, you can change this location but cwm no idea

Copy the backup files to /data/media/Clockworkmod/backup and see if they can be found then

Thanks bro i appreciate it - your advice worked!
It found the backup file straight away but i havent launched it yet.
Just wondering what does the restore feature do exactly...does it reset my rom to stock and recovery to the stock android recovery?

No problem
Your phone will go back to how it was when you made the backup.
The recovery / modem wont be touched so you'll still have CWM.

Sorry i forgot to mention that then is when i made the backup file..while i had the stock rom
Also im guessing if you use the recovery..it does NOT un-root your phone?

If the stock ROM was rooted when you backed it up, you phone will remain rooted if you restore that backup.

Thanks guys for all your help really do appreciate it
I just have one last question to do with baseband and roms. My baseband version is i9300XXELLA however i want to try the Android Revolution HD rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797334 . This would still work on my phone right?

Yes. All basebands will work. Some better than others, but that is not possible to know which work best for someone without trying them all.

General > sticky roll-up thread > "flashed 4.2? Can't find /sdcard data?"
Have a read there.
Consider replacing cwm recovery with philz where you can change locations

I just did a downgrade to stock 4.1.1 using Odin (which flashed it back to stock recovery), but before I downgraded (I was on 4.2), I did a nandroid backup in CWM.
After the downgrade to 4.1.1, I reflashed recovery with the newest version of CWM using the unified toolkit and tried to recover the nandroid backup, but it said no file found. The backup was already on my external sdcard, so then I tried moving it to another folder as mentioned in this thread, but that didn't work either. I didn't have that exact directory as it was posted, but I didn't think that would matter, so long as it was copied over from external to internal or vice versa.

Yes, new rom replace all things
well since you have already done factory reset (and lost all your data) no point in whats written below
But if it happens next time and you want to preserve data, please mention if you are running an odexed/deodexed rom. Someone nice here can upload the file(s) you need and you can push them to your phone using adb

Yes stock rom will always be odexed. to check you can go to app or framework folder in system/ and see if you have corresponding odex files for apk or jars.
Edit: Also a suggestion. Don't flash mods that do not specefically say that they are for odexed roms (if you are on stock). For brightness control you can use lux brightness free from market. it gives you control on how much brightness you need
One guy from local forum gave me a restore zip file. Any ideas how can i push it on phone, if it loads only in cwm and download mode?

Hm, when i choose "mount /sdcard" nothing happens, screen just refreshes, no errors, but i cant "unmount /sdcard"
Thats strange.
add: But i can "apply zip from /sdcard" and can see all directories in /sdcard

[Q] Nandroid fails to restore

Hello,
I recently flashed my phone back to stock after running a custom rom, before i flashed the custom rom i did take a nandroid of the stock rom, today i tried to restore my nandroid which i saved on my computer, CMW tells me "Couldn`t open directory. No files found." I`ve tried to put the folder in /mnt/extsdcard/clockworkmod/backup, with no luck
Can someone please help me and tell me whats wrong or what can fix it
Thanks for any help
Are you copying the exact same files? Which cwm are you using? What backup method do you use? (Tar/blob)
If you've backed up with blobs abs since then flashed later cwm's (which now use tar as default) it may not find that back up.

My backup consists of mostly tar files
This is what the backup folder contains:
System.ext4.tar
Nandroid.md5
recovery.img
data.ext4.tar
Boot.img
cache.ext4.tar
I`m using CMW v.5.5.0.4 CF- v1.5
Thanks for the quick reply.

Hi, JJE
I am experiencing a similar situation. I understand I need to roo again the phone using the exact same CWM version I did my bkp with.
The thing is I don't seem to find that CWM version. Is there a place where I can try CWM from version 4.x to 6.x?
Thanks
Ed

[Q]How to find out which CWM used for Backup?

cheers guys,
my GT-I9300 broke - now i got a new one. Exact same model.
I used CWM for creating backups.
Now i read, however, that i only can use the backup if I'm actually using the same version of CWM on my new phone that i also used to create the backup.
I don't know, however, with which version of CWM i created the backups.
This results in the fact, that i cant use the old backups to flash my new phone.
Does anyone know a way to find out with which CWM the Backups were being created?
Thank u all in advance,
Regards

It doesn't need to be the exact same version, but there are incompatibilities between really old and newer versions. Have you actually tried to restore a backup yet?
Also, please look at the sticky threads in this section. There is one here in capital letters saying that you cannot post questions here.

Sorry for that! Ill respect it next time.
Actually i tried.... but it doesnt seem to work, as it says in CWM "No such files found" (I was trying to copy it to the right "Backup" folder in /clockworkmod/backup - but i couldnt find the folder!?) and in Mobile Odin it doesnt work either.. Tells me something about "Partition could not be found in file"...
So its.. kinda weired!
I think it might work if I were able to copy them into the right CWM folder.. but even with root in CMs file manager i cant access it.
Thanks for the help
regards
Flash a CWM recovery make backup .
Open backup folder delete contents .
Copy your backup contents to the folder .

[Q]

Hello! 2 weeks ago, i flashed CM 10.1.3 on my Galaxy S3(international) and now i am thinking of going back to the stock ROM.I have made a backup which stays in my clockworkmod folder in my file manager, and i was wondering how to return to my stock rom. As far as i know, i need to wipe the data from the phone before restoring my old backup(and the cache too, i think), but i am not sure if that would delete the backup files from my phone. And another thing i have been thinking about is,from what i remember from when i flashed my CM 10.1, the file was ZIP,but now the backup files in the folder and not in a ZIP file but seperate files, so will that be a problem?
Any help would be highly appreciated
Oh god i am so sorry for the unnamed topic, i forgot and i can't edit it for some reason >.<

[Q] A whole load of problems / partition / recovery

I have installed Omnirom version 2.4.3 on my Samsung Galaxy S3 and now I have a few problems but I have no idea how to fix them. Basically all my ROM backups were in a folder called clockwork mod but now they are no longer there. Instead they are in /data/media/clockworkmod? I have tried to copy the back up ROMs from this location to my SD card but even though the files are all there. When I go in to recovery Philz Touch and try to install the back up it say no files found?
How can I fix this? Its as if my internal sdcard has been partitioned? How can I get it back to one partition? Any help would be greatly received because I am in a bit of a mess at the moment.

Thanks for the reply and link tallman. I have read complete thread but there's no mention of how to get Philz Touch recovery to find back ups on separate part of internal SD partition. To be honest its really confusing and I think I'm over my head here. Any help greatly received.

After selecting data/media did you rebooted recovery..
If you did then just check whether the backups exist in your int SD card after booting your rom..
