(Urgent) Hang - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I couldn't find any thread or post of this matter.... So, my brother has a S3 I9300 and was running 4.1.2 version.... He has experienced lots of hangs/freeze until the home button does not respond... He have to pull out the battery and put it back so that the phone can turn on.... So, anyone can help me with it???

So there's a bug called sds. Sudden Death Syndrome. It wipes the internal memory including android to the point the phone is dead and needs motherboard replacement.
Samsung released a fix for this in 4.1.2 - see the important sds thread "are you covered" created by me. Its stuck at the top of the general forum. It tells you how to identify if you're affected.
If you are, and you're using an older 4.1.2, the side affects are long freezes and hangs.
The newer 4.1.2s with version 2 fix are much better. There is another thread in general called "ultimate freezing thread" or something which may contain methods that temporarily relieve freezing.
First things first, read my thread and find out if the device is affected. If it is, compare the device version of android against tgr ones in that thread to see which version of the fix it has. Then take it from there

is it safe to assume that my phone is the patched version that is not able to be rooted ?
This might work better.

It also appears you have problems posting in the correct forum.
At least I got my reporting fix in for the day.
I'm moving this into Q&A Section where this should be originally posted

Froyo...

Does anyone here remember the good old days of not needing / wanting any of this fancy stuff.. back when a phone was a phone not a computer

useless thread is useless. That kind of post belongs on Twitter or FB.. or in the General Off-Topic thread.

I remember the WinMo days when mods would get rid of such useless threads...
Wait a minute, that gives me an idea....

***Roll-Up Sticky Thread*** Stickies found here!
Then have a good read around the forum and get familiar with what is going on development-wise, and take it from there.
As always back up, including efs

Excellent advice, random stranger!
hello there, i also used to have an ACE, and was using it when my S3 had SDS lol ..
first thing to do is check if your emmc is safe, you can use this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.vinagre.android.emmc_check&hl=en
thanks guys for welcome i will check out the sticky threads , but before i do i want to know more abt SDS n EMMC it got me a lil worried
@exge as suggested i downloaded the app and my eMMC chip is VTU00M and fwRev: 0xf7
Sgs3 sudden death ?
No. Sane Chip.
So what does all this means ? i haven't run any test tho.. can you guys tell me more about this

This means your chip is safe. And doesn't have the problematic emmc chip.

just to clear it out " VTU00M 0XF1 " is the affected chip only ?

S3 doesn't keep settings after a restart

My s3 doesn't keep settings after a restart and basically has never been 100% at it. Eg. Ring tones will revert to default, default application settings get forgotten. Phone has been rooted before but actually isn't right now.
Running 4.1.2
I have done a factory data reset.
Any thoughts?

Really? The s3 q&a and troubleshooting forum is the wrong forum?
Since the phone has been rooted im hesitant to send it back. Its actually also had the screen replaced.
Still hopeful someone has better advice than tell me im posting in the wrong forum. This place used to be friendlier than this im sure.
Just saw the link for the lte specific forum. Will repost there.

Not if you have I9300 yes its wrong if you have I9305 really .
Btw, what forum would be a better place for me troubleshooting question?
The I9305 forum Q&A logically .
You had two bits of advice ignore them both or not .

Thanks for the advice. Already took one of them... other one; not sure how my warranty would hold up with being rooted and a screen replaced... sad face.
Considering a cyanogen or perhaps liquidsmooth rom that I've just seen a bit about.
My concern is that even a new rom doesn't wipe or refresh all the parts where things like default settings might be kept during a restart. So hoping some advice comes through in that regard perhaps.. but not in this forum.

Closing this thread as it was posted in the wrong place. The new thread is here in the I9305 Q&A section.

(Ask) Jelly Beam (4.2. _)

When will we get 4.2._ for SGS3 ? Anybody know?

There was really no need to open up a new thread for this question since it has been asked numerous times already. A little bit of search would lead you to a thread like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2210279
Yeah moderator should put on an stickie..
Really people are posting threads insanely..
