Camera Brightness - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Hi guys, I got this phone yesterday and I'm freaking loving it. The first Android phone that I can actually compare to my iPhone 5. I was wondering is there any way to lower down the brightness when your taking a picture? For some odd reason every time I go into the camera app the brightness goes all the way up.

Pretty sure that's a built in "feature" that allows your viewfinder to be as accurate as possible under all lighting conditions.
If you really can't stand it, you can give Tasker a shot. I have Tasker do this for Gallery/other camera apps so that videos and pictures are more pleasing to view.

Can you elaborate more on the Tasker app? I've never used that.

It's an app that lets you set certain conditions and when those conditions are met it will cause something else to happen that you have preset.

So I can set the brightness leven for when I open the camera app y doesn't go all the way up?

I don't know that specifically I'm just giving you a brief overview of what gasket does. It's a free app though, I think.

It's not a free app. You can get it on the play store here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
If you decide to get it, it's a very powerful tool, especially for non-rooted users. You can program anything to basically do anything. For me, I have it turn down the brightness whenever it senses that the camera is launched.

1. Hit the plus button on the bottom right
2. Hit "Application"
3. Select "Camera" from the list of applications and hit back
4. Hit "New Task"
5. Enter a task name or just hit the check mark if you don't want to name it
6. Hit the plus on the bottom
7. Hit "Display"
8. Hit "Auto Brightness"
9. Under "Set", select "Off" and hit back
10. Hit the plus on the bottom again
11. Hit "Display" again
12. Hit "Display Brightness"
13. Drag the slider to the level you want and hit back
14. Hit back again
That should be it. If you want it to turn auto brightness back on after you exit camera, just press and hold the green arrow, select "add exit task" and just do the same thing (go into display>auto brightness>on)
Weird...it didn't work for me. There must be an overriding feature in the camera code that prevents this. Let me play around with it some more.
--edit-- Anyone else got a clue? Any sort of tasker script I write, the camera will flicker for a bit, but the app will inevitably override the settings tasker applies.

Yeah just tried and like you said it doesn't work

Wave Launcher / Anyone Using It Or?..

Could someone please download the app from the market, setup and let me know if you any text freezing while typing, scrolling issues while on the Internet or XDA App? It was messing with my phone but would like to know if others have issues too. (BTW... I really like the App)
Thanks

Wave Launcher is fully customizable. You can change the size, location and even thickness of the gesture-area. To change it, look for "Gesture-area presets" in the Settings screen.
The setting the works for most people and is my personal favorite is "Bottom Left - 20%". It will never interfere with the keyboard or scrolling this way.
Note that you can also have Wave Launcher automatically disable in Landscape mode which is often used for typing, games, etc.
The app is very powerful and highly customizable, please go through all the settings to make sure you make the most out of it.
Any reports guy's?

Used it and it interefered with a lot of things going on on the bottom of the phone such as opening the app drawer and typing. Just my experience others may vary.

As Mike said above.
I also tried it for a bit, and even changed the popup swipe location but it is just OK. I think bottom corner 20% was the one that worked best for me, but even then I would accidentally press the Home button. Sides are for screen sliding already, and top is for notifications, so there is not much free room to swipe around. Its a fine launcher, but I did not find it useful enough to keep.
I thought it would let me make a gesture to swipe it onto the screen, not follow my finger around everywhere, to where I cant even get rid of it without the awkward swipe back into the same corner of the screen.
What it should have is a setting on how far to follow you across the screen, so if I swipe up from bottom corner, it appears, then it follows me around but only until I get to say 50% of the screen height, then it goes away.
That way, if it appears accidentally, I dont have to swipe is back down, but simply continue the swipe up motion until it dissapears.
I tried it but didn't care for it. Holding the Home screen button essentially does the same thing. Aloso, If you're running stock then you've got your most recent apps in the notification drop down. Unless you are constantly switching between apps, it's pretty pointless.
I use mine for a quickdial and store a few contacts there. so far it hasn't interfered too much
Thanks for your feedback guys!

Easy note to use?

When I need a note, it needs to be very simple to use. Simple to open, simple to type, simple to save and simple to find.
One tap from the homes screen, no title to fool with, auto save on closure and easy to find later.
I have tried several of the note apps but none seem to meet all these things
AK notepad almost does this and I use it but there are two issues I have with it.
It takes two taps to open from the home screen and the notes are embedded in the program are are not visible as separate files.
Any thoughts?
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.socialnmobile.dictapps.notepad.color.note
Great and pretty simple, one click for open and another to edit , than back key to save.
The best is Motorola Widget "sticky note" that comes with the stock Motorola roms.
*Don't get too lazy
Have you tried Evernote?
IMO "Colornote" is the best and it only uses a couple permissions, which makes me like it even more...
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
I agree with the color note. One tap on home screen opens app to your list of notes and one tap to open individual note. If only using one note it will open right to that note. Autosave on close. Simple easy...
Sent from my MB200 using XDA App
Perhaps I am do not have these setup right, but..
Using a shortcut from Home...
Colornote requires one tap to open from Home, a second to select new note, a third to select Text
Evernote requires one tap to open from Home, and a second to select new note. But the curser defaults to a title field, requiring a third tap.
Geesh, I don't use notes very often but when the need arises there is a little stress to get something down fast without fumbling with the software. A note app that opened to a new note on a single tap would be sweet.

Sounds like one of those non-issue issues. You have to tap to type. Right? Short term memory?

Voice Search Missing!

Where did the voice search shortcut go? It would have been nice if a long press on the recent apps button brought up voice search. When I'm driving, I want to be able to "call home", or " "navigate to Best Buy". I tried to create a shortcut, but the voice search is not a app or widget, so I have no easy way to get there without multiple steps.

I noticed this too :/ I use the Dragon Go! assistant app and it has the same problem.. The quickest way to get to it is to use the google search widget. It's voice button gets you straight to it.

Yes, that's what I've been doing. Just wish there was a voice search only widget so I could put it on my home screen and not clutter it up, or a long press on the useless recent apps button.
Also, where did the Sound Hound app go? I can create a shortcut, but if I go to the apps area, it's not there! Tried to uninstall and reinstall market Sound Hound and you can't! Total garbage!

Soundhound is under Music now.
found a workaround
I've been looking for this shortcut (soundhound) and a couple others that seemed to disappear from the all apps drawer. The program is listed as installed, but you can't start it easily! This is what I found posted:

I modded mine to use the focus button on the camera (half press of the camera button). Whenever you're not in the camera app, hold it at half press, and voice actions pops up. I'm putting it into a zip right now, link to follow.
I'm sending ian in here to help u all out, he make a key remmaping the focus button to voice actions
Ok, after a long (LONG) day. I've got the zip, and I've managed to get it uploaded. This just makes the focus key (half press of the camera button), act as the search key, outside of the camera app. Hope you like it. Thank ticklemepinks appropriately for getting me to post this

There's a way to bring back the "Voice Search" shortcut. I have it on my dock right now.
Someone at AndroidCentral created a thread about it, but since I don't have that many posts right now to send you guys the link, here are the instructions:
1) Download "QuickShortcutMaker" from the Play Store.
2) Launch QuickShorcutMaster.
3) Do a search for "Voice Search" and you'll get a list of Voice Search Activities.
4) Select the one that has "RecognitionActivity" in the description.
5) Select OK.
6) The "Voice Search" shortcut should now appear on your Home screen.

Thanks for posting this, but since it's not an apk, and I don't think it's a kernel file, I don't actually know what I'm supposed to do with this zip. For the record, I tried changing the extension to apk and that didn't allow it to be installed. My evo is a stock, unrooted one at present.

You have to flash the file via custom recovery. Not something you can accomplish completely stock.

Ah, okay, I just got the phone yesterday and haven't installed any custom recovery yet. I should probably get on that. I ended up with an evo3d on 1.50, and therefore wasn't able to take advantage of such niceties. Thanks for letting me know.
You you possibly map it to a long press of the recent apps key? That would be more practical, think the half press of the camera key would happen too easily.

[Help] GMD GestureControl

I'm developer of application that allows to control tablet (or phone) with gestures similar to iPad.
GMD GestureControl on XDA
I added support for Nexus 10, but I didn't know touchscreen resolution, so I need your help.
If your device is rooted, please install application from that thread (or Play Store) and send me calibrations values:
1) Open application
2) Go to 'Advanced' tab
3) Click 'Calibrate' and follow instructions on screen. Basically you have to click 'Start' and then touch borders till calibration values stop increasing (maximum is registered). Then click 'Stop'
4) Open Help tab, click Email developer->Good overridden settings. Application will prepare email with calibration values. Email it to me.
Thank you.
Just sent you an email. Hope it helps but not entirely sure if the values are right because the screen resolution of a Nexus 10 should be 2560x1600.

Love the work! I have been around XDA for a long time, probably three or four years before I started using this screen name & they added the one name rule. I have always supported those developers that seem good people with great ideas. I never tried your "lite" version, nor did I try any XDA beta versions. I read what the app did, loved the idea, saw a few screen shots & reviews/comments from a few folks I know & respect & instantly purchased both GMD & S-Pen Gesture Control pro apps from the Play Store. I also instantly shared my positive feedback with many via G+ & a few sites.
Having a long XDA history, I have seen a lot of great ideas come & go. Some never quite live up to what they could be, some are ahead of their time & others just are nothing new, just the latest incarnation of some semi-popular feature.
Occasionally though, something comes along that is simple, yet elegant & happens to be an absolutely precise representation of tha natural progression & evolution of base features. This app is just that, the extension of natural progression that touch navigation is becoming. This app is like a feature that should already be integrated from Google, so natural & simple, and yet, so necessary. Anyone that hasn't at least played with this app, is missing out. It is by far my favorite app & I highly recommend supporting the developer, whomever he or she is.

Hey Stupididea, Can you help?
All I want to do is simple snappy ios gestures.
5 finger pinch to home-close
4 finger swipe left or right to switch apps.
5 finger pinch to close-home is not in the default settings so I had to make a custom one.
Its works,.. after 8-9 attempts..
I think Im missing something here. Can you assist with a walk-through of reccomended settings for what im looking to do, or
perhaps update the next build with these settings as a default toggle?
Cheers!

What you wanna do is the following:
1. Go to custom gesture tab
2. press create gesture
3. type in your desired gesture name
4. type "P" (without quotes) in Gesture Path
5. select 5 touch points
6. Tap action type and select: Action -> Status Bar Actions -> Home
7. Hit "Save"
8. You're done!
I need to lay off the sauce.lol I just noticed the 4 finger pinch to close. Works great!

hi,
take a look at "fast reboot" app market .?there is a free version ,dont know if it has settings option ?( actually, the pro version has settings , to be correct )
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greatbytes.fastreboot&hl=en
Install, open fast reboot setting ( small gears in left bottom corner of app )Select , 2 nd option "Auto reboot options " and tick your option's ...on unlock and you can set on lock also .
If you know this app, then you will know it does not really reboot but closes (kill ) and opens up app ,excellent app .
Been using it for years (you will see market figures thats it very popular )
good luck
The free version have no settings and I have to click the fast boot icon for it to close apps.
Thanks for the reply.
Anyone else have any good apps that can automatically kill apps when I turn screen off?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
most likely you will remove that application, bcoz neither it will save your battery and may it drain more battery than saving by closing app.
If your application remain in BG, it will just take some RAM not juice, and everytime single application try to kill appliction in BG with screen off will drain more juice.
there is also in built option for this if still you want it, go to setting - development option - limit background process, you can set your desired level.
You can use ZDBox, its free and have so many utilities, the task killer can kill all non marked running tasks when lockscreen comes. Check it out, i love this app.
