Hi, this has been bothering me for a while so I figured I'd ask about it. Essentially, I want to remove the word 'yo' from the keyboard because I don't use 'yo' and I hate whenever it accidentally autocorrects to 'yo' when I type in 'you'.
I know how to add words to the dictionary, but I can't seem to find the option to delete pre-inserted words from the keyboard. Anyone know?

On some keyboards; SwiftKey, you can press and hold on a word and it gives you the option to remove it from dictionary.
Try it, it might work on stock keyboard as well.

Nope. Unless I'm misunderstanding pressing and holding on a word just brings up the highlight prompt to copy/paste/etc.

Which keyboard do you use? Samsung or Android?
Go to empty space on one of your pages. Doesn't matter which page
Long press until list of options appears. Scroll/Select Shortcuts
Scroll down and select Settings
Scroll down and select User Dictionary. Edit as needed.

Click to collapse
You can also go into Settings > Language and input ( or Locale and text on some phones) > Samsung keyboard (or Android keyboard) > User dictionary. You can edit your words there.

As I mentioned before, depends on what keyboard you are using. The aforementioned solution was pertaining to SwiftKey only.

Is there a way to keep the words i use which are not in the data base of my t9? Thanks!

I'm assuming you mean by using the Phone Pad. Switch to multi-type mode, enter the word, then before pressing space or enter, switch back to T9, and it adds the word to its database.

Go to settings>locale and text>uncheck the "default input" checkbox (not sure about the exact label, but it's second to the top, my phone's language is lolspeak )
Be warned though, you will not be able to access "symbols" menu. When you press
the button under "enter", it'll just act the same as the alt button, the blue one. So, you can't enter an underscore and other symbols like $.

Yes, when in the described mode, press and keep pressing the letter that contains the special symbol.
For instance, if you need the symbol 'ö', press and keep pressing 'o', the rest will point itself out.

Then this seems like a bug. Maybe report this? Where?
Swype has always frustrated me, when you need to move forwards and backwards much in a text field, it is difficult to do with your finger and I could not find anything to help in swype.
All I had to do was hit the bottom left swype button and then slide to the symbol key right next to it. BAM, there it is. It's probably most helpful for copy and paste and some other situations where you just can't move the cursor with your finger.
Just an fyi, and also wondering if this was already common knowledge?

I wouldn't call it common knowledge, but it's been known for a while. I found out about it in a tips and tricks thread somewhere.
Also, try the same thing, but slide to "f" instead of "sym" to pull up a number pad

Are there more shortcuts?
-swype key then symbol key
-swype key then f
...more?

also, in 2.2, in text entry fields, if you tap the field a movable cursor shows up that you can slide left and right.
A lot of tips like these are in the General Sticky....
that said, I do not know if its a shortcut, but I love going from the apostrophe to "s".... I can type words like "what" and then with that gesture quickly make is "what's"
also, if "bump" from one letter to the next it helps swype identify the letter you are really going for (ie, you go across a row and there could be a few correct letters).
I take it that none of you had ever done the tutorial with swype on your phone...

Swype > F is the only one from this thread that is not on there.. and that is not all that much needed from using the other number pad.
Swype -> q switches it to AZERTY. It doesn't switch it back. Pretty useless.
These Swype shortcuts are all on the Swype website lol

To switch back, press and hold the top-left button (where Q used to be) and choose U.S. English. If you've picked Korean by accident, press and hold where the A button was to switch back to English.

True. And somewhere else on the Internet someone else is talking about every other thread on xda...
exactly as the title says, i cant figure out how to switch to a different keyboard,
there's no option under the language and keyboard settings to actually select one of the other keyboard i have installed, any ideas??
I'm on cm7 also and only have one keyboard selection but I install swype beta and never looked back...do you want swype or the old sammy keyboard? Swype was pretty easy to install but I'm not sure about the old keyboard from froyo rom...idk if there is a work around to get it on cm7? You may be out off luck for that keyboard?

Are you looking to actually just select a new keyboard or install a totally new one
If selecting make sure it checked in language and keyboard settings and long press in any text box, choose input method and select the desired keyboard. thats how I did it

yeah that was it, i was used to having the option to select a keyboard in the settings and didn't know about the long press any text box, thanks
I've just installed Ultimatum beta 4 (and now I see RC1 is out) and so far haven't gotten alternate keyboards to work. I prefer Swype or FlexT9, and I go into Settings->Language and input to change my keyboard. While I can select FlexT9, the Android keyboard can't be unselected (it's selected and greyed out). When I go to type something I have to use the Android keyboard.
(I would've posted this in the Ultimatum thread in the development forum but I follow the advice about searching forums first and have only needed to post three times previously)
You should be able to pull down the notification when typing and you can switch.
Post some screenshots of settings.
When I type an email, there's no dialog or notification to pull down.
I've attached a screenshot.
