[Q] Down the road, how can we get our batteries replaced? - T-Mobile HTC One (M7)

Just bought an HTC One, and I plan on keeping it for at least several years. But what worries me is how I keep seeing reviews on how the battery and repairability of the phone is very poor. In a couple years, I might need to replace my battery. How would that be done? Would HTC still be able to service a phone that would be by then a few generations old?

I would imagine the battery itself should last like 2 years which is about when people upgrade

You can add lifetime warranty to your phone plan for 3.99 a month. If battery goes bad your phone gets replaced....
---------- Post added at 11:30 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:29 AM ----------
So $4 a month for 24 months is $100. ... Not bad

While nice, that doesn't solve the problem when the phone is older and the internal battery can't hold a charge. Kinda makes the phone useless if you've got that dangling off of it all the time.

Thats where all the apple like quality comes into play. Say, all you do is get it replaced under warranty OR insurance like squaretrade. Done deal.
Apple solved this a long time ago when it launched the iphone and made millions happy
If you truly plan to use your phone past 2 years then good riddance! I personally would be happy to get another one

With the iPhone 4/5, Apple made the battery really easy to swap out.

Even if I didn't want to use it past 2 years, a difficult to replace battery lowers the resale value.

Replacement would be by HTC repair. You send the phone to them. I think they will still stock the battery by then.

No iPhone battery is easy to replace, where are you getting this from? Put it to you like this, if Apple has to replace it then it's NOT easy to replace.
Resale value? Bro like I said use warranty or insurance and sale it.
But to be quite honest with you I had an IPhone for 2 years before I bought the HTC One. Battery life was decent as I sold it to an ebay buyer without a hitch.
Btw, phone retail value will diminish overtime just like anything does, IT GETS OLD

Any idea how much that is? Maybe judging by older devices or something. I know Apple is like $80.

To be honest your better off with a 2 year insurance from squaretrade. Why? Well you get to replace/fix your phone for any problem.

All phones have a 1 year warranty from the manufacturer. All you need to do is walk into a Tmobile ( or whatever carrier ) at 11 months and have it warranty exchanged. Then you have a new phone with new battery. Will cost you a $20 fee

That's an easy swap. It's 2:25s long, and the repair doesn't start till 1:15
The iPhone 4/5 could almost be considered a phone with a removable back and battery pack.

That's not practical man. Be honest with yourself, who wants to do minor surgery to their phone just to replace the battery?
I don't think the OP wasnt looking for that either but a more natural way.
As such then please just get a warranty swap at the 11th month or get insurance (squaretrade) . Those are the only options for a phone battery that won't hold a charge.

Even these guys had a tough time, and they tear things apart constantly.

I just hope and expect to get a good 2 years from this phone battery. After that it will be recycled/resold.

I remember reading somewhere that it could last about 500 charging cycles before the battery's capacity would decrease, so you'll probably be fine on a two-year contract if you charge every 2 days or so.

leaving rezound.... proximity sensor.

Not by my own choice...
I had posted some time ago about thsi Proximity Sensor issue, where I had to have the speaker of the phone basically behind my ear for the screen to stay off. Well I spoke to Verizon and they admitted that it sounds like a hardware issue and I could get a free replacement.
BUT... they wanted to offer me a LG Revolution (whut?), Thunderbolt (Even the tech laughed at this choice) or Charge (whut x 2)... and maybe a Razr standard.
I begged them to give me at least the Razr Maxx and the tech asked her supervisor 3 times, getting denied each time... finally I laid it into her and said I want to speak to a supervisor because I:
1. am a customer of 8 years,
2. have 4 lines,
3. am being treated unfairly by given the opportunity to only replace my defective item with an item of lesser quality, and
4. believe they should stand by their assurance of certified devices by ensuring they actually work as advertised.
She came back and her supervisor didn't even want to talk to me, but just to get rid of me, their giving me a 16gb Maxx... I hate leaving the Rezound but there are none left. *sigh*

That's funny cause the charge guys that are having problems are getting offered the nexus. I got my Rezound as a replacement for my charge. I wouldn't go back. I'd call tier2 back a talk your easy into something else. Just my 2 cents.

I am one of those guys who needs his phone to be a phone more than a portable computer/gaming thingie... but I also need it to last a whole day. Which is why i would not give into the standard Razr. I also have an upgrade in September... if I really hate it we'll see what comes up in Q4 from VW.
Give them time to replenish their stock, probably wiped out from the ICS upgrade...
I got my Rezound as a replacement for the Droid Charge. Just call back and get another person. They have call centers all over the country and each have different supplies. The next person you talk to will probably have a Rezound.

I got a free replacement from the rez to nexus a month ago and I really don't know why you guys are so reluctant to switch to anything else. To be honest the only thing I miss from the rez is the camera and the fantastic radios, other than that the nexus is a lot nicer imo, especially with a 2150mah extended battery.
If you're really that hell bent on getting another rez replacement then why not tell the idiot tier 2 reps that you barely get through the day on a 3800mah battery on the rezound and a razr just won't cut it for you, get them to send you a razr maxx and sell it and buy the rezound and make some profit.

Tint can be fixed with screen tweaks, and there are other features on the nexus or other verizon devices that make it surpass the rezound in many ways.

I recall reading somewhere that the sensor can come unglued and thereby block proper signal reception. Whatever the case, overall the Rezound has been my favorite phone. I've had the Eris, the Incredible, the Incredible 2, the Galaxy Nexus, and the Rezound.
Like I said, I have an upgrade this September. I am sure, whether it's this Q4, or the first in 2013, there will be other phones released.

Rezound has probably the BEST camera on VZW right now. GNEX camera sucks, as do the radios.
When my wife's Tbolt went bad a few weeks ago, we got to choose the warranty replacement phone and we went for the Rezound. I don't have to tweak anything to get the display to look good and the camera is amazing.

No, the galaxy s3 has the best camera on verizon right now and what's wrong with taping 2 things on the official build 1 release of AOKP to make the screen have the deepest blacks and true whites making it a better looking screen than the rezound? And have you tried jellybean on the nexus or the s3? Once you go butter, you never go back.

[Q] Is it worth it?

Hey Guys
I'm moving back to the big red in about a week and I've had my eye on the note since it was first anounced internationally. I really want to know is it worth the hefty $300? I really want to get it and finally have a great smartphone, but I'm afraid that I'll hate it, or have buyer's remorse within the first couple months after. What do you guys think?
That all depends on what your looking for. I personally think this is the best phone ever (as long as we can get this bad boy unlocked which is looking pretty good). For me it was about size, I love the size of this phone but I completely understand those who think it's too big (there just wrong but it's okay) and then there's the spen I personally haven't used it that much but if you like it then there really isn't any other option. So if you want one or both of those then I'd say get it, if not than maybe the s3 or the dna might be a better choice(be careful with the dna though with the battery and sd situation).
I completely agree with everything he said, it is ridiculous the battery life this thing gets I'm a power user and I still have battery left the end of the day which is just nuts not to mention the phone is awesome.

I actually love the size of that thing, aha. I want it for the fact that it's a beast when it comes to processing power and screen size. I also like that I can also expand the memory on it. I was thinking about the DNA, but I'm coming back from the EVO lte, and I actually hated what HTC did to ICS, and I also don't trust that small battery with a 1080p screen running all day. So would you say it's a go?

If the size of the phone isn't a problem for you, then go for it. Keep in mind that Best Buy will match the price of Amazon, I got mine for $200.
I'm partial to the note but I will tell you the dna is a fast phone with a great cam and screen I have both. .. The dna however is going on ebay for Christmas money. . . It's all what you like and how much you want to spend... The battery isn't the downfall for me it is the memory but not everyone needs more then 10gb of memory

totally agree with everyone. its the best phone i ever owned and ive had alot. you will not regret it.
Actually still debating this myself, I already have the phone but am deciding if it's worth keeping and selling my Galaxy nexus or returning and keeping the nexus. The note is faster, has much better battery life and radios, but $850 is $850. I have until like January 2nd o chose so I will see what happens.
You get 14 days to decide, which I feel is plenty. I definitely think it's worth the $300 coming from my Incredible.

If you buy on contract, you only have 14 days to cancel an upgrade though. I've heard best buy or some other retailers give you more time to decide you want another phone, but you still have to keep a verizon smartphone contract after the 14 since that part is up to verizon. Since the OP said $300 I'm assuming he's buying it on contract.
Edit: To be clear that is what I've heard online, not from official sources. But I've heard people say Best Buy associates often make it seem you have the full 30 to completely back out when it's only to switch phones in the last 16.
I don't think the size of the phone is as gigantic and everyone makes it out to be. I have a size 29 waist and it fits fine in all of my pants even with the fairly bulky flip cover. The only issue I could think of is if you have small hands and mostly want to use it one-handed. I don't have any issue with this, and I found that typing one-handed isn't bad when you use the stock one-hand keyboard which shifts the keys toward one side of the screen.
If you get it from verizon the holiday return policy is good till jan 15 for any purchases after nov 27

Why so much. I thought it was 699 off contract plus tax?
Thanks,

I paid $700 for mine (So I can keep my unlimited data) and I still think it is worth it at that price. For as much as I use, what I use it for, and the battery life is amazing, I couldn't imagine having any other phone. The size of the phone becomes a nonfactor once you adjust to it. I know I will have this phone for quite awhile and look forward to what the next Galaxy Note has in store for us down the road.

I did the same thing for the same reason. I wanted the first note but that didn't come out on verizon and I'm glad it didn't. The extra GB of system memory really allows the note 2 to multi task. What blows me away is I can put the phone through the ringer and not have to charge it until I want to (when I go to bed).

Get a mophie or some other wireless charging/extra battery case for it.. it'll obviously definitely add to the size/weight of the phone tho over a standard case.. I wouldn't get the cheap chinese one's off ebay tho, horrible things that don't last long at all.

Yeah ive tried 2-3 different Chinese ones, although admittingly they were for my iPhone and not the HTC one. They were great for the first month or two and then and then they all started having issues. 1 would fail to charge ever again regardless of charger, another failed to hold a charge for longer than ~4hrs, another would constantly cycle charging on/off while switched on and trying trying to charge the phone. Just had a bad experience overall and waiting a month+ for RMA is a bit much. Much better to get a legit one for these reasons at a place where you can RMA in your own country if you ever need it.

Thinking about upgrading but never had an LG phone, thoughts?

I have pretty much had note phones since they launched and was all set to get a note 5 when I saw they removed the SD and battery stuff so now I am on the hunt for something else and saw the V10. Does LG try to block rooting phones or anything like Samsung had for security knox? Any major issues or anything come up with this phone or LG? I am a bit set on just getting one since it's one of the few phones that still have some of the features I want but I've never dealt with LG before
I came from the Note series and I'm very happy. Rooting is easy, no knox type security.

i believe the screen is the same size, but you have the on-screen navbar rather than the off-screen physical buttons of the Note.
ive been a huge Note fan but i too am considering this device. i saw it in the Tmo store and was immediately drawn to it. i see some users with car bluetooth issues tho, so that's making me hesitate just a tad. but we'll see, maybe we'll both end up getting it. with a plethora of storage and the promo giveaways they are drawing some of us in haha.

Yeah not gonna lie, I saw the free battery, charger and SD card till the 15th and thought well maybe I should just jump on it. The bluetooth issues seem odd since it's user an older BT and not the new one like the note 5 has but my car is behind the times because I love it far to much so all I got is an aux port which from how the headset line is setup is gonna sound pretty good maybe even not need to edit the volume settings to make it louder like I did with the note 4.
I just really can't accept a phone without a removable battery and an SD slot on it. I know it's not for everyone but when you have had one for years you find it very hard to go without and after poking around on google it seems my choices are slim.

ah, i forgot about good ol' line out. but i dunno, i may get one and just test out everything within my return period.
yeah, non-removable battery makes me nervous, but even tho i had spare batteries for the Notes, i never needed them! but not being able to store everything i want, without an OTG drive, is an inconvenience for sure. keep us posted on what you end up doing..
Edit: by the way, i think LG holds promise. they made the Nexus 4, which a friend of mine used for over 3 years! and i had the Optimus G briefly, buying from a friend to help him with financial problems, and it seemed very solid and was maybe the most powerful phone at the time.
I'm. In the same boat as you guys, needed the storage and battery. As far as the spen, you have the screen capture (which is mostly where I needed to use the spen), where you can write on it with your finger. Not as nice as the spen, but if you want to use a stylus, you have that option.

I called the shop and will pick one up tonight, I forgot that we can return it in 14 days without any issues so I will just take it for a test drive and see. I keep hearing mixed reviews the more I read of them today.

Not if it's within 14 days at least from a real tmobile store. I did it with another phone a few upgrades back and didn't have an issue, just say the phone isn't for you or you can't get signal like on the old phone.
Isn't there a $50 restocking fee? That's what I was always told.

Yeah I keep reading that and it's the only reason I haven't gone to try T-mobile with this phone (would be coming from AT&T). If I find service isn't what I hope for I don't want to pay that $50 restocking fee.

i ended up picking one up myself, and i honestly don't think you'll be disappointed. it's way cool! feature-rich yet seems to maintain a light and snappy feel. and i'm glad to say bluetooth music works fine, it even auto-connects when i start the car, just takes maybe 10-15 seconds longer than my previous Notes.

They are charging me a restocking fee for returning the Note5. Got the 64 GB one with the wireless charger so I had to pay $215 up front. This phone costs $49 up front (doing jump and monthly installment). Actually saved me money for a phone I enjoy more.

I was nervous when I jumped from my note 5 a week ago, at first i was more interested in jumping to the galaxy s6 edge plus.for me I always felt the note or edge series can do no wrong, but it felt like the whole time I was being cheated, never understood why til I seen the LG v10 I felt that way. LG is doing the whole more for less thing and I feel more justified paying $600 for a device

There is the fee but honestly if I keep the phone for a week and change I think it's fair. Better 50 and find another phone or 600 for a phone you aren't happy with. Kinda pissed the clerk at the store off when I told him that logic, forgot how much the people in tmobile stores rub me the wrong way till last night. Almost an hour to upgrade my phone, none of that was waiting it was all the sales stick after I said I just want the V10 and nothing else I even said I will pay full price for it right now if you will shut up.

Just started playing with it today it feels nicer then my note 4 and a bit quicker but could be I haven't brainraped this phone yet. But from feel and look alone I do think it seems a fair price for what I got and the free stuff LG is also a nice bonus. I hope development on this phone picks up to the same levels as the note did. Damn it samsung why did you have to take away my SD and battery.

LG G Pad X 8.0 Bootloops When ~30% Battery

Wondering if this is a common issue with these.
I got this tablet for my son during the first "Tablet On Us" promotion last year and it's a piece of junk. He's had issues with it basically within a few months of getting it. The biggest one is it reboots and goes into a bootloop once it gets to around 30% battery. I'm assuming the battery % is actually reading way off, hence the battery is dead or about dead even though it reads 30%.
Is there something I can try? Flash a custom rom? Factory reset?
Thanks.

It's clearly a battery problem. I had same issue with my OPO. Just replace your battery
If its still under warranty, change it. I changed two (son and daughter ones) already. and i think my wife's one is starting to do it as well.. always happens at 30%. The device is great except for this damn battery thing.
if you got it thru t-mobile I bet it still under warranty. call them. or call lg.. But i think t-mobile is the better option. They order a new one for you and send it to your local store. you'll go and pay $20 for the exchange fee. If you go thru LG, the warranty should be in effect but you have to send the tablet in.. and wait.. at least with tmobile direction, you get a tablet right away. I rather pay the extra few bucks and get one right away. shipping to LG maybe $8-10?

Sorry, completely missed that you replied. I think I'm going to give that a try. Replacement batteries are $80 on eBay, not worth my normal DIY at that point.
I'll see what T-Mobile says. Glad I'm not the only one with the issue.
Bro today i tried readback utility and its failed.
But it worked with k3note. Also worked for lenovo A7000+ and successfully fetched recovery.img for both devices
Mtk drivers installed properly. But dont know where it went wrong?
I think oppo managed not to respond while power off.
And also i searched that oppo will fully prevented fastboot services since 2016
https://forum.xda-developers.com/r7-plus/help/decision-oppo-bootloader-fastboot-t3348114
So all ptovided resources brought Nill out come for my device.
Started hating my device.
And specially thanking for ur efforts made. And also for the time and patience u invested.
Anyone know of a compatible battery for these? Batteries are $80 on eBay and can't find them "for parts" cheap either. Curious if you can take another similar sized battery and just splices the wires.
just wanted to chime in that I am also suffering from this. Had these issues for the past 6 months and sadly missed the warranty period.
I had to fall back on my 5 year old samsung tablet for my son.
I used to work in wireless and my experience lead me to the phrase, "LG, Lucky if its Good.
I broke from this belief to give them a shot years later only to find nothing has changed with their quality.

I know I'm almost two months late to this post, I haven't logged on here in a while. Do you happen to have a link?

I got the one from Amazon about two weeks ago and replaced it with great success! No more boot loop and normal charge and battery functionality. I think it was like 22$
