Keep cleanrom and scrolser here on att one !!! - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Guys scrolser is A great dev and he is going back to Verizon and developing for them because at&t has crappy service where he is.so I was wondering if anyone would want to chip in and help buy him a device ??? I haven't asked him but I doubt he'd be opposed to it!
Just throwing it out there as an option ??

Arhd is actually running real smooth for me, compared to cleanrom was. International seems to be where it is at for development.

So if a phone was purchased for the dev then the area he is in will get better reception? That sounds like an ingenious plan to get a free phone

The HTC one x, HTC Hero, and HTC Evo 4g had lots of development. This phone has quite a bit support, but it's mainly from the international side. So far I prefer running their work on our phone. The way things look, international will be where all the attention is focused for our phone. Maybe if s-off happens it will attract more Att dev, but who knows.

You might want to check out the international One forum as well. Their roms are compatible with our ATT version. I'm currently running Renovate and it has been my daily driver. Also I'm sure the latest versions of android will be seen first on the international version.

I find it troubling you seem to have this elitist view of what is or what is not considered development. Scott pours tons of effort in maintaining all of his roms across many devices. Some feel it is worth to have him dev on this phone. Do you really feel the need to dismiss Scott's effort and someones request to get this guy a free phone?
TLDR: Get off your high horse. Its embarrassing.

If he is actually wanting to work on the amaze I'd be glad to donate, mdeejay does great stuff used his stuff on the sensation. This is a dev I would love to get the device to if he is actually wanting to work on the amaze and own a device. Kinda sucks right now to get a device for someone at this moment with newer devices coming out it seems like most devs want to move on to those newer devices. It'd be awesome to have a dev who would actually want to own and use an amaze. Back when I was on the galaxy s2 forum they got Eugene373 a phone and because he was gonna use it as his phone he ended up bringing them so much great roms. To throw a device into a devs hands who is just willing to work on a couple roms for us, is kind of a shakey idea on one side its great and appreciated that they wanna help the amaze community out on the other hand they got lives and their preferred devices so you never know how long they will be willing to help out for.

I would argue the quoted part above - our device still isn't even remotely obsolete. I was at a tmobile yesterday with a guy who works there who owned an amaze previously, but they gave him a htc one.. he isn't impressed. It is slimmer, and it includes beats - but otherwise it is the same phone without being able to access battery or have a microSD.
Sure, the international version is quad-core, but the newest phones in the US haven't made any attempt at pushing hardware specs-- we are still good competition.
There are a ton of devs that are still developing for devices that are definitely inferior to ours spec wise, that alone is a very big factor.. if they use our phone, they will fall in love(or they have bad taste!)

Well I partially agree with you, its not so much that the amaze is a bad device, its not behind the curve nor is it stale, however, the newer devices are easier to dev for from looking at the one s and one x even with no kernel source they are farther along. I love the amaze and I don't see anything compelling enough to upgrade to anytime soon. With that being said the amaze is no walk in the park to dev for, with missing drivers its already a not so easy phone to deal with, I truly hope if mdeejay or any developer that gets our device for that matter likes it the way owners of it do so that they can see a reason to get it beyond just helping us.

Given that we have already received nothing from them, is there really anything to lose?
I mean, the only thing they can hold back is the ICS official ROM, but we already have that...
If they do release the official rom, they cannot legally hold back the kernel source. So, what can they do?
I seriously considered a few days ago what would happen if one of us kindly emailed HTC explaining everything and politely asking for the kernel source.
THEY CAN HAVE US ALL ARRESTED FOR INTERNETS HARASSMENT, CHARLES CARREON HAS FREE TIME NOW.
Actually, the only thing we can do is keep asking, hashtag it up gentlemen, but keep it CLASSY. Type like English is your first language. Though they do hate bad PR, totally going to put #HatesCustomers on the end.

VZW could give a **** less and bugging them will never result in anything positive development-wise; they will release on whatever schedule/circumstances suits them, customers be damned...but I'm all for pounding on HTC via social sites or other avenues, i.e. petitions, letters, etc.

Tell them how sense slows down the device and we want AOSP but that's only possible with source and you should probably tell them about all the drama that goes on around here because we don't have it, oh and all the devs leaving us
You nuts? You gotta at least tell them something they want to hear. Try something kind of like this:
To whom it may concern,
I am an aspiring Android developer and for years, I've absolutely loved Android devices from HTC. In fact, the Galaxy SIII, Nexus, and other competitor phones have zero appeal to me because I've always loved HTC. I don't feel comfortable with any other hardware manufacturer because I know I can always expect great design, ergonomics, and a manufacturer-designed user interface that makes sense (so much so that you guys even call it Sense).
My latest device is the HTC Rezound, but I upgraded before the One X and other devices were coming out because Verizon is the carrier in my area with the best signal quality. I love my Rezound because it reeks of the superb design and quality I can always expect from HTC. However, I like to develop on it as well, and I've recently hit a few snags because I lack the kernel source for the phone. So I ask as a loyal customer, could you please let me have it?
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Your fan,
[NAME HERE]
Their not going to release a ICS kernel source when it hasn't even officially been rolled out yet in my opinion. Hopefully when it is released they drop the source quickly.

7 MONTHS?! That should be illegal. What the hell was stopping them?
As for our source, I doubt they are allowed by Verizon to release anything before OTA drops. Which will not happen until their new cash cow (Droid Incredible 4G) has had time to move plenty of units. So... probably no sooner than 2 weeks from now. That's if you're optimistic.
"...reeks of the superb design and quality..."
Perhaps not the best choice of words, lol.

Kernel Source Useless?

I'm genuinely curious if this big kernel source drop is going to be beneficial to us or not. I've heard two sides to the story:
1. "HTC b trollin' man, they drop source and release a new kernel..."
2. Devs can use the old kernel and fix the issues that HTC fixed, along with the other issues AOSP ROMs were having like sound and MMS.
I have no idea what's going on, and I'm curious whether I should expect things to blow up here soon, or if this kernel source has been essentially useless. I'm generally unaware of how long it takes devs to pick apart the kernel code and utilize it. Any input from those with knowledge on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Both are correct. It doesn't really help sense based Roms because sense kernels are going to be newer than source.
However, aosp roms can now be fully functional. Aosp is what many people on here care about and are waiting for.

It's only been a little over a month since the phone first came out. Give more people time to transition and we should start to see more activity. It isn't that bad so far, but most development is based around Sense because no one wants to wrestle with AOSP. Once they get AOSP stuff finished though, we'll be golden.

Yeah, I'm sure that's true. In my head, I figured everyone would be working to get to that point as quick as possible once kernel source was released. Like a giant team project, haha. Instead, it appears that only a select few are tackling it. Even custom kernels seem to be a rare mention. Oh well, I'll continue to enjoy the Sense ROMs as much as I can until someone cracks the AOSP code.

I know that Preludedrew is working on JB for our phone, I talked to him about it yesterday on Gtalk. Deck mentioned in IRC that he was working on it as well, I believe.
The kernel developers are hiding so far, probably because we don't have the big guys working for us yet. I'd love to see a Tiamat kernel, even if I'm personally not a fan of custom kernels.
Kernel.org is also down, so that's slowing things up for everyone.

I've been seeing this all over, but I can access the site and perform downloads just fine.
There's is (are) custom kernels out

I'm actually happy with the stock kernel. It has a great balance of performance and battery life. Then again I prefer my kernels to be rock solid, as opposed to cutting edge with random reboots.

I always used custom kernels with EVO 4G and remember zero reboots due to kernel issues . Easy overclocking and underclocking, volume mods, performance increases while still improving battery life... Yes please!

This makes me sad. Maybe the EVO won't have the development I pictured it having after all. I'm not giving up hope for the future, but if you're correct in your assertion, that is saddening.

So far my experience with HTC phones have been a very disappointing one. Coming from the OG Epic, all I've kept hearing was how awesome the development for the OG EVO was. So of course when the EVO 3d came out it was my phone of choice over the Epic Touch. That was disappointment number one. Then when the LTE came out, I've noticed all the OG EVO developers and owners was all excited about this phone, so i decided to give HTC another chance. So for I've been more disappointed then at any point. The lack of ROMS, the pitifully performance of sense 4 and HTC's new stance on locking bootloader and sneaky updates with new Hboots was the last straw. What phone will I get next? Im not sure, but it won't be a HTC.

We've had plenty of roms for this phone. Development has flown. Idk what your complaining about.
HTC has always locked the bootloader and always updated hboot to close root loopholes. This is nothing new.
This is all par for the course. You should know this having owned the 3d. Settle down my man

I know what he means about ROMs... They're all more or less the same so far. Modified stock is great, but not what many are after when they think of development being great.

+1 on that. Seems like the other guy isn't to bright seeing as this phone is only a little over a month old

And aosp is in the works and has been since shortly after launch. These things take time.
If you check out the aosp threads, they all mention ongoing development.
We JUST got kernel source. Devs have day jobs, they do this in their free time

Oh I know that, and I no way meant to say the devs aren't doing great work. I just wanted to explain why he said there were not a lot of ROMs right now. I understand that statement, although there is plenty of reason for why that is.

I think my old incredible will get jb before my rezound

The guys in the incredible land are pretty amazing. They have a booting JB and a lot of functionality working.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751992
Playing with a few of these builds is fun on my old incredible but it also makes me realize how much I like my rezound more. Hopefully my rezound lasts as long as my incredible has.
I hear you man. I straight up jumped ship to Samsung galaxy s3. I doubt I'll be back to the rezound. :banghead:

?? Is this a way to push devs to port JB? People are starting to forget that this is a rezound forum. It seems the rezound threads are either bashing the rezound or promoting another device. I'm just happy I have an HTC, especially the way the rezound is already. HTC hasn't even announced anything about JB on ANY device yet...
At least all the trolls went to the GS3..oh wait they still come by here and still troll :rolls eyes:

I love my rezound and I loved my incredible. I just hope that rezound has a life like the incredible did. I also know there are a bunch of old inc guys in here too that might not be paying attention and want to try jb out on their old inc.

That and the fact that people keep comparing a 3g phone to a 4g phone in development
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
well yeah...it most certainly will since the incredible has been completely blown open for developers...all the rezound needs is source and you can thank the 8 month overdue ics update for that...
And I like the rezound :-( I loved me nexus but it DIDN'T work all three of them.. come on Google!

I've heard of a lot of people going through multiple GNex..
And yeah this is off topic, but this whole thread is kinda useless anyway. The Rezound forum is starting to feel like the trash forum. All the leftovers come here to die or something.

The only source getting released is the kernel, we still need to crack their proprietary RIL which won't be getting released. The additional of a 4G radio has made it more complicated then the Incredible.

I'm one of those guys. Sweet, I'll have to keep watch on that thread so I can try it out. Running CM9 on it right now; would like to see how JB runs on it too (pretty much the same I'm assuming, once they get the kinks worked out).

There is a CM9 with partial linaro toolchain on it that you might want to check out. It seems to run really fast.

Will have to check it out. It's just running the Unofficial CM9 port right now; was running that for close to a month or so before I got my Rezound. Was surprisingly smooth.

Same here. It is/was a damn good piece of hardware. Especially for being a single-core, 2 year old phone.
