I just got my droid dna couple of days ago, its an amazing phone, but the camera wont focus on anything sligtly away from the phone, it has amazing close ups (macro shots) but fails to focus on something as close as 15 inchs to the camera, I have tried using other settings, and other modes such as landscape mode, iv tried various camera apps, iv tried doing a factory reset. But no luck at all its killing me, I hope its not a hardware problem because I dont live in the states, and I wont be able to have it replaced, please help

I know it sounds stupid, try cleaning the lens. It's free
That was the first thing I did, again the camera does an amazing job when focusing on really close objects, but fails to do so when the object are sligtly away from the camera, so I guess This does not have anything. To do with the camera, Being dirty.

When you say won't focus, are you touching screen to focus on that area first, and if so does it look like it is trying to focus, but doesn't seem to properly focus.
I tried mine, and when I touch the screen to the 15" away object it focuses fine to that object, and takes a clear pic.

Yes I touch the screen and the shutter sound sample plays and it looks like it's trying to focus but no luck, do u suffer from the same problem? Did anything work? Do you think it's a hardware or software Issue?

My Streak used to take very good photos which came out natively at 2592x1944 pixels, around 300kb in size. But suddenly that has changed and now photos are only 640 x 480 pxls and about 80kb. I've made no changes nor can I find any means of returning to the higher quality. Can anyone shed any light, please?
When using the camera there are settings for this. I am on my IPAD so i cannot provide instructions. Maybe later when I am on the phone.
Hi,
There is a strip of very small settings buttons down the left hand side of the viewfinder area, touch the top one and a scrollable box comes up, somewhere in there are the resolotion settings. Make sure you check the superfine option, then pick 5MP option.
The buttons are really fiddly, it takes me a couple of tries to get the settings menu up.
Hope this fixes your problem.
The pics I take with my streak are usually around 800MB

Not on mine I'm afraid! There are five buttons on the right side (brightness/contrast, store location, white balance, flash mode and zoom), but none whatsoever on the left side???
I remeber that being the case before the Froyo update. Are you on 2.2?

Yes, I am. And I had high quality photos both before and after updating to 2.2. It's only recently that this has happened and I can't think what I must have done to have caused it, nor can I find any resolve. The last thing I want to do is a cold reset, so if anyone can suggest how I might be able to reinstall just the camera app, perhaps?

HI AidanBell,
the option to set the quality of the camera is just below the brightness and contrast option.
Once you click on it just scroll it and you will find it.
Thank you so much. At first I still couldn't find it, but eventually I realised that the brightness/contrast menu is scrollable - which is not in any way obvious nor have I ever known before! So of course scrolling down I've now finally found all the quality controls. So simple and yet so beautifully hidden! Thanks again to everyone who helped with this. Job done.
so anyone whos linked to facebook, when you get a text and you use the stock app, do you notice low crappy quality images on the lock screen? same with a call?
their actual fb images aren't this low of quality; i can see them in the people widget and the quality looks fine. however, they're much smaller and lower resolution on the lockscreen when you get a text. any thoughts on this? i just started using the stock messaging app again so i'd like to know
I have noticed. It looks horrible. I wish HTC would fix it.
Same here, they're nasty.
ok good, as long as its happening to us all. hmm, there's gotta be a way to fix that.
We can fix. We just need root
lol how? nobody fixed that on the incredible roms running sense 2.0 and above wtih the 3.0 lockscreen....it was always ****ty quality lol
I just had my girlfriend call and text me both. I am not having this issue.
And yours is linked to facebook for her, or is it her google image?

3 users of this phone I know of have this same issue... I highly doubt any one with the pictures synced with facebook are not having this issue.
My wife's picture seems OK. Can't take a screenshot of the lock screen but it looks the same as her contact picture which was synced from facebook. Bottom contact

Wow, last poster has some nice image quality there. Mine's got that low-quality FB imagetag, however. Would really like to make it better.
My contact photos don't look so hot on the lockscreen either.

hmm, tried several times and it didn't take. go figure
and here's my widget:
that's facebook. really ****ty quality. meh.
Camera - Default
ROM - All
First noticed it - Two months after launch
When I take a picture in my living room, it's usually dark. So the image would look like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
But I joke you not, right before the camera settles and finishes its adjustments, I can quickly get a snapshot out that looks like this:
That's freakin amazing! How can I make it stay like that manually? I've been messing with the settings but nothing I do can duplicate it manually.
Is there a solution to this?
Bump
Still looking for a solution.
Its the camera focus, in first photo it focuses on ur tv, so it drops lighting from everything else to get a clear image of tv image, 2nd photo did not get chance to focus so there is no drop in lighting
This should be the reason

Is there any way to manually manipulate it before the shot to get the desired focus like in the second shot? Because I was in the dark and I think it's damn cool that it saw the surrounding area.
Any camera in auto mode would do this. One trick is to make in focus on something else. Point the camera how you want it but tap the wall in the image. This will tell the camera too focus there instead of the center. You can also shift the camera so it's point at something else, half press the shutter button, keep it half pressed, point the camera back to where you want it, then press the shutter button the rest of the way. Second method may cause the focus (not exposure, which controls the brightness) to be off.

Ah, now that makes sense. I wonder if there are any mod cameras out there that allow us to use manual focus. Hmmmmn.....

I'll have tried like 5 different camera apps and get the same results. At my daughter's swim practice, the sun sets behind the pool. If I focus, it takes a super dark photo and you can't even see her. So I have to focus on the concrete, and hit the button and instantly aim at the pool. Lol. Then everything is bright and crisp. It's weird. I too tried playing with every setting I could, with no luck.

Lol Well it's good to know I'm not alone in this . Guess we'll just have to make due.
It's auto exposure setting for the brightest object in the shot. It is NOT the focus. Focus = blur or no blur. Exposure = brightness. Use my suggestions and it should be much better. Any camera would do this in auto mode.

It's a hardware problem, you will have to RMA. There are plenty of threads about this in Q&A.

Open your camera program. See bad green screen or something unrecognizable. Open Options. Change quality to 3 Mps. Change sides to 16/9. Turn focus to "far away" (not auto). Press by your finger to back camera with some power for 5-7 seconds. Move finger away. If it's - have a fun! If it's not - press again. Open Options. Change quality and sides back for your pleasure. When you make photos you can turn on "Auto focus", but when you turn off camera program you should change in options focus to "far away" (not auto). I hope it will be fixed in Andriod 4.0.4.

Same problem here. It seems to be an hardware problem. Just after the end of my warranty. I'm very disappointed bout Asus...
From time to time I like to utilize a good stock wallpaper for maybe the lock screen or so forth....
Am I the only one that thinks that the stock wallpapers really suck on this phone? There is only one that I like... Just a thing I guess....

I actually like the dark ones - very elegant! To each his own I guess!
I have the green wavey one on my lock screen, that being said I'll probably swap it eventually because the white spots when viewed from and angle keep freaking me out that part of the display has gone bad. I'm partial to the geometric android stock wallpapers and I found and app called plastexo in the app store that has some intersting 2d vector style designs.
I changed mine within minutes of getting the device...

If think this is kinda funny. This is the first And only phone I have not changed the home screen yet. Lock screen yes. I think the stock home is just so simple yet elegant. Everything just pops off the screen.. Ive tried to make black backgrounds over the years but never liked them. This one. I like..?
