Upgrade date now synced with contract date - HTC Rezound

So I noticed the other day that my main lines upgrade date is now the same day as the contract end date. They moved it back 4 months from what it was 2 months ago. I'm on unlimited data for 2 of my lines on the family share plan I think. Anyone else seeing this?

They did away with the 4 month early upgrades... You now upgrade on contract end date.

Can we get out of our contact because of this?

Your two lines I take it? That won't change.
Verizon used to allow upgrades at 20 months. They got rid of that. It's now the full 24 months.
And to the one who asked if this gets you out if your contact the answer is no. The contract doesn't state you upgrade at 20 months.

I'm pretty sure I read the change only affects those whose contract ends on 1/1/14 or after.

I don't know if anything is different when buying a phone from BestBuy vs Verizon but I bought my Rezound from BestBuy. I have printed paperwork that states I can upgrade my phone on a specific date which happens to be 4 months prior to the 2 year contract end date. I'm going to do some research but someone clearly changed the date that was given to me when I purchased the phone. It appears that this would allow me to get out of my contract if I wanted to.

New Verizon Upgrade Policy, Upgrade Now?

With Verizon changing their upgrade policy later this month, no more early 13-20 month upgrades, no more NE2, are you planning to upgrade before Jan 16th, 2011?
http://http://www.androidcentral.com/verizon-changing-its-upgrade-policy-youll-have-wait-20-months-new-phone
Several years ago my gym bag was stolen (containing my cell phone). Without insurance my options for a new phone were very limited.
My wife and I both have Droid Eris, mine has a custom rom, my wife's has the stock rom. If upgrading what phone will you get?
Well the link you posted isn't working, and I highly doubt verizon would do that. They would loose lots of customers to other carriers that still had upgrades.

Fixed the link, sorry to report it is true.
This sucks big time... I guess I'm getting a 1yr contract then.
Well ill be changing carriers after my contract is up next year, as im sure many people will be doing.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
Business plans are included in this change just so it doesn't hurt me at all. (yet)
I'll be calling up for early upgrade before the 16th and telling them I want a 1 year contract from now on.
Im thinking about calling verizon and asking a rep about it then tell them how stupid they are for doing that.

Wait, since when could you do an "early upgrade"? I never knew that...
From what I have read, this only goes into effect with your next contract. People who are eligible will be able to take advantage of any offers on their existing contract even after January 16, but that will be the last time such an offer is made. So I wouldn't do this right now unless your Eris craps out; I expect that there will be all kinds of nice Android phones available pretty soon.
I'm planning to switch to one year contracts going forward myself, but, honestly, I have never done an upgrade in-contract before my 20 month NE2 date anyway, so I'm not sure that this is all that horrible to me.

From what I gathered in asking this on other forums, when you're under your one year mark you can do an early upgrade prior to month 20. I have never done it but planned on trying to do once I found out more from the CES coverage.
I love my Eris but I need something a bit bigger and snappier.

I didn't know about it until last December when I got two Droid Eris smart phones.
From 13 to 20 months, you can/could get 2 year phone pricing (but without the extra NE2 discount). Even when I first heard about it I incorrectly assumed it meant that they would add 2 more years to my existing contract making a total of three years, this was incorrect. It only extended the contract 2 years total.
I/we now have 10 days to make a decision on 13 month upgrade. While I am happy with my Droid Eris, part of me just wants a spare smartphone for when/if something breaks, gets lost or stolen.

You explained it better than I can. If I do this I'm still asking to go to 1 year, even if it's $50 more. I don't like being in 2 year contracts anymore after the way the Eris was handled.

Please help!!!!

I really want to get this phone. My situation is that my contract doesn't end until next year but my yearly upgrade is 7/1 when and how will i be able to get the phone for $199?

lol just wait a few weeks.
i'd reccomend just waiting a couple of weeks, however....
If you really want to try and push it call: (877) 775 4886
It's the sprint customer service line that i've had the best luck with, they seem really nice.
Say you really want to get the EVO 3d, and want to get your upgrade moved up. Sometimes they say yes, sometimes they say no. They moved mine up from september to june.
Just hang up and call back if they say no, try a couple of times and you'll eventually get a rep that will move it for you.
Be persistent it took me 3 calls but they did it at no cost. At first they wanted me to buy out of my contract but I kept calling. My upgrade was january. Good luck
I would just wait 7 days.... I only pushed for two of my upgrades because they were August and next year.
wow we have the same upgrade day! lol i was wondering about this also. so is it 199.99 even though it's only a 1 year upgrade?

I'm 90% sure that the yearly upgrade ($75 off) only takes 75 off the original price the store is selling it for. So if its $599, you get it for $524 if you're at 1 year. The 2 year upgrade people (And 1 year gold) are getting extras off that 1 years can't get, or the 2 years would be paying 449 for the phone.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong... Someone who works with sprint or RS or BB may know better.

No, it will be much more expensive with a 1 year upgrade. However, lots of people (including myself) have had luck calling the number GreenKnight posted to get their full (2 year) upgrade early. Most people are saying to wait because it seems like the key to getting moved up is already having your one year upgrade available. As always Your Milage May Vary.
Call the number. My one year wasn't until August and I got it pushed up for a full upgrade.
i havent tried the number but i did do that thing where you pm'd that dude at the sprint user forums and he forwarded it to someone who would help get you an early upgrade but they said that since my upgrade came in july that it was not eligible for that.... :/
My 75$ upgrade eligability isn't until 7/1 as well but I called last Thursday said no . So i hanged up and tried sprint chat and they upgraded me to full discount....

i was just given the $75 upgrade not long ago and i was suppose to get my full upgrade in march 2012. I called sprint and told them im tired of my pos phone and asked them to move my upgrade or im leaving...the supervisor I spoke to instantly gave me the upgrade. I checked 10 minutes after getting off the phone with him and it was there.
and its not like i did a dishonest thing. Im getting an Evo 3D and they get my money for another 2 years. win win situation.

Well you manipulated your way, unfairly, into an early upgrade, so if that doesn't bother you, then you are good to go. But, they are getting their money so w/e i guess.

[Q] Sprint Line Upgrade Question

Wondering if anyone has had this happen to them:
I have a family plan with 5 lines. All the lines are do up for 2 year upgrades. I went into BestBuy yesterday and upgraded my brothers line to the LTE for 60 with trade in. I checked sprint online and his contract was already showing updated with the contract detail locked in for 2 years.
I upgraded my line thru Walmart to the LTE about 2 weeks ago and my line is still showing with a $150 upgrade available. I checked through the Sprint online and through the automated line. Both say the same.
I am wondering if I can just go into BB and upgrade my line again and get another LTE...
Probably so. Same thing happened to me at best buy last year. I waited three months and it never showed the new contract locked in. I went to the sprint store a few months later and upgraded again with no issues.

Thanks for the reply. Here is my situation. I bought through Walmart and paid 170 and we went to Best Buy for my brothers and got his for 60 with OG Evo trade in. I was going to return my LTE to Walmart and go to best buy to get the 60 dollar deal becuase I have an extra EVO with a broken charging port that has been laying there for a while with no use.
But when I saw the my upgrade is still available I think im just going into Best Buy to try to upgrade another on my line and just sell my EVO LTE on Craigslist or something. I dont want to risk returning and losing out on the upgrade...

Whatever your prerogative is man, go for it. I was tempted to do another upgrade on my wifes line and just sell the phone for cash, but alas, she wants to keep her upgrade for next year lol
It's gotta have something to do with the cahsiers doing the upgrades wrong. My wife and I both got our phones at Wal-mart, but mine shows the upgrade as used. Oh well

[Q] yearly upgrades.

Feel free to remove or move the topic if it doesnt belong.
Since I left apple for android a few years ago I used to get yearly upgrades when all of a sudden thy stopped. I called att and they said since I'm the account holder (share plan) and my portion of the bill is more I then get earlier upgrades. Essentially they said a portion of my monthly bill goes to paying off the cell phone and the rest goes to my monthly charges. By their logic...if I pay off my phone in a years time and they won't let me upgrade then shouldn't my monthly bill go down?? The att rep told me that is basically exactly how it works and she told be to keep checking to see if my upgrade date gets adjusted but it never does. 10 year customer paying $200/mo, I'd really like my yearly back.

I've never heard of this. On a shared plan any lines update can be used to upgrade another line. I.e. your daughter can use the update available on your phone line to upgrade her own and you could use hers 6 months later when her line is due. A good customer can usually be offered an upgrade 1 month early of their scheduled upgrade but not every twelve months. None of your bill goes to paying off your devise directly. What ever rep told you that is of their rocker. The fact is that they lose money every time sometime upgrades so they understandably have to be restrictive to how often this happens which is every 18 months.
An extra standard line on a shared plan is $10/month last I checked. This line also gets upgrades. If there are 2 people using the plan you can get the extra line and cycle the 3 upgrades to get upgrades more frequently. It costs money to do it but a year and a half is 6 months to long..

My sister is the account holder, but I'm an authorized user, and am always in att. Well I got two of our three lines upgraded early, both went with the skyrocket, but I then wanted the s3. Loved it but I wanted a bigger screen(found out the hard way you only get one trade in) so I traded my new s3 for a white note. Im the main line and we all get our upgrades like a year and a half in

You could be right but I don't know. When the Samsung blackjack 2 came out I got it on regular upgrade, maybe 10 months later I went in to the store to pay my bill and I was digging the iPhone 3g so I asked when exactly is my next upgrade date, she said I can upgrade now...I was like really?! So of course I did. I was 6 months in on my iPhone 3g when I herd of the iPhone 4 coming out, I used the text number to check upgrade status and it said I could upgrade in June of that year which was exactly when the ip4 came out (got it on launch day) as soon as I had the phone I texted the number again and it said I can upgrade exactly 1 hear from the day I got the ip4 (12 months) a year later I got the infuse checked status and now I'm back to 2 year upgrades, I got the note with my third line. So that's 3 phones in 3 years...highly u likely to be a system screw up. I called att and what I mentioned on the first post is what they said, my bill is $200, I'm responsible for the actual $80 plan, unlimited data and text, my gf is responsible for the $10 add a line and unlimited data and text, my 3 line no one uses.
So if att never gave 12 yearly upgrades than why did I receive 3 of them.

upgrade date reset

maybe i missed a sprint press release or something but my upgrade date was 5/1/2013 after i got the lte on release day. just looked last night my date is now jan 1 2014. gonna call sprint as soon as i have a couple hours to waste ugh.
edit you guys might want to check yours, my mom just called and hers has been reset from oct. this year to oct. 2014. she hasnt renewed her contract or gotten a new phone in 2+ years as shes still rocking a og epic.
Yup, mine is 1/1/14 also. I received my LTE on launch day also. Aren't the upgrades every two years? With that said, wouldn't our updates be around May of 2014?

if you used your upgrade on release date it should be in 2014...now if you just bought the phone straight up ...that doesn't affect your upgrade date
I got the same thing. I called and complained enough to finally get to someone high enough that will let me upgrade on the date that it originally said. I'll be getting the next EVO for sure.
Called and they said they have no record of my upgrade lol

Mine says 11/1/13
just called on my moms account which is out of contract and hasnt used an upgrade since she got the epic 2+ years ago. 3 csrs and 2 supervisors and 2 and a half hours later they will not reset it to oct 2012 that it was, only resolution that was offered was when she was 6-8 months to the upgrade date she could buy out the rest of her contract and her upgrade would be reset. sprint just lost my parents over this since my pops was actually gonna get her a new phone with her upgrade for xmas.
whats funny is my wife and daughters line which were upgraded to a gs3 and ip5 on launch days have upgrade dates of 5/1/13.
I would assume that this is due to the discontinuation of the Sprint Premier program, which allowed people of certain tiers of plans to get upgrades earlier than the normal two years. They killed this program about 5 months ago (shortly after our EVO release, convenient isn't it), so everyone who previously had early upgrades got hosed.
