[Q] International S3 rom JB 4.1.2 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had an international s3 with international rom. I rooted custom rom but then I flashed back to stock, but I used a VodafoneNZ 4.1.2 stock rom not the international unbranded UK. Ever since then I've been having battery issues so I am just wondering whether there is a difference between International Unbranded 4.1.2 and VodafoneNZ 4.1.2 apart from what I heard that I would be receiving updates according UK if I had international?
If there is a difference and the NZ rom is draining my battery, how do I flash to international 4.1.2 rom if Im already on a stock NZ 4.1.2 rom? I tried finding guides but all are for custom rom to stock rom

Maybe one of the apps drains your battery.
Just follow the guides to flash a rom...

Same same for every stock rom, factory rest/wipe, flash via odin (and 're root) or mobile odin (to keep root).

Should be my last question. hmm ok, let me get this straight. So I put my phone into Android Recovery mode (since its stock theres no CWM) and wipe data, wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache? Then use odin to flash a stock rom?
If what I said was correct, will it trigger my flash counter?

Here you go...and as long as you got root, flash counter can be reset, not sure though if it will be triggered via Odin at all.

[Q] When we flash to official ROM does our Kernel flash to official too?

Hi Guys,
Recently I rooted and flashed with the custom Kernel on my SGS II. But now decided to go back to the official ROM.
So my question is, when I flash it with official ROM (through ODIN). Will the custom Kernel be replaced by the official Kernel that came with the official ROM?
Thank you in advance to the kind soul that replied.
Yes.

Yes, if you needs custom kernel again then you have to flash it separately via Odin again.

If you don't have jig, I suggest to flash to ics first, use triangleaway and then flash back to stock with mobile odin

No official ics releases yet. They were just suggesting a round about way of getting rid of the triangle by flashing a leaked version of ics then using an app to remove the triangle then use something like CWM or mobile Odin to flash back to a GB Rom.
Like I said long winded process.
Just flash an official firmware. Then flash cfroot kernel for that version of firmware. Then if you want to get rid of the triangle use a USB jig available for a few dollars off eBay.

How to get Official JB Update (when it's out)

Hello
I just wanted to ask a question about the official jb update from Samsung.
I'm currently running a custom Omega ROM, if I want to change to the official Samsung JB, when it comes out, how would I proceed best?
I tried to find out how to revert to Stock, so I could just do an OTA update, but I don't have an original Stock Firmware Nandroid Backup..
I live in Switzerland and had a Swisscom branded Phone, which was not locked.
What do you think?
**EDIT**
or the leaked JB test firmware
You can find your firmware at sammobile.com. Just flash it with odin.

If from OMEGA rom , do you want to go to a rom stock samsung , run before a nandroid backup and save the folder EFS , performs a wipe date , factory reset ,then after with ODIN flash rom stock samsung , if remains in boot-loop repeat a full wipe from the recovery ....
I would wipe phone and install JB as its a new OS not an update .
jje
there's still something i don't get..
i do still have the ota option on omega.. is the firmware seperate, which would mean that i would be possible to be on omega rom and have a stock firmware, or do i also return to stock rom when flashing the firmware?

No, because Omega is a costum rom,it's based on a stock firmware and kernel but, it's a modded firmware so you must wipe everything and flash with Odin if you want to go back to a Samsung Stock firmware.

Unrooting, everything back to normal

Hi. I have rooted my S3, to see how it works with PS3 joystick (i am not too impressed)
I have rooted successfully via odin flash guide, but now i get strange problem.
Every now and then, when i want to turn on dispay, it works and show me that clock and then when i swipe to unluck, the phone doesnt respond.
When i power again, display dimms, and nothing happen. I cant unlock my phone, I need to hold power button to reboot, and than it is normal till i lock the screen and want to turn it on again.
My question is, how can i solve it, and if i can't, how can i get everything back to stock and normal?
Try turn off ripple effect in setting, see how it goes.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
First of all, try disabling lockscreen entirely.
Then try performing a full wipe. If nothing changes, flash stock firmware via Odin. If this haven't helped, root your phone, reset bootloader flashing counter via TriangleAway, then flash full stock firmware and make a warranty claim.

As i thought, now, without changing anything, the problem goes away. But i think it will came back
I forgot one big thing!
!!!! When i first flashed PDA, i flashed it with something CF, not insecure kernel (MY FAULT). Then i got this problem but i can say that i couldnt use my phone. Only just after reboot. Then i flashed insecure kernel, al now problem is still here but it is not so often, but i must fix this.
So maybe the problem is because i flashed wrong file, so "bad" files are still here?
Is there an easy fix for this?

Start from scratch again. Backup your data, flash original firmware with odin, root it again, triangle away if you want.

Ok now, here is my next question.
I flash original firmware form here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969 Is that right or not?
Than i know now hot to root, and i think this triangle away is easy too.
And one more question, which firmware is the newest and best? This XXALF2; Firmware Info PDA: XXALF2 Phone: XXLF2 Date: 05/06/2012
I remeber that i had OTA this month so 6th month is pretty old IMO :S
You can go to sammobile.com to find the latest firmware for your country. Then follow the instructions as in the link you posted above.

Are custom roms for s3 better than original? I had HTC Hero for almost 3 years and i had custom roms for it but it was only because i wanted it to be faster and smoother
For me, yes custom roms are better than original stock rom.

The best way is to root, total wipe, then flash custom ROM and not flash over the stock ROM!

[Q] Stock recovery flash

Can i flash stock recovery with mobile odin
you can't flash a stock recovery. it comes with a stock rom, and mobile Odin is made exactly for flashing stock roms

once you already went back to stock rom, then your traiangle away but still want your phone rooted. what you can do is to search here in XDA the CFAutoroot for our S3 and your system status still be NORMAL. works for me
