Ok I have a question....... - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been looking for a thread about if superoneclick can root the S3. If anyone can help me with this please tell me where to find it at. I have superoneclick v2.3.3 downloaded on my computer already.

I don't know that, whereas why not simple download cf-autoroot, not that a big file.

I don't know what that is and have never heard of it. I have only used superoneclick before.

If you never heard about it I guess you should do some reading before you go on rooting, go through the stickies!

Ok I guess you didn't read my first post I have rooted before I just haven't use the one you are talking about. I have looked for threads on here and other sites and haven't seen anything that is why I'm asking.

I read your first post and the guides explain in detail how to root and what are the options (cf-autoroot, cf-root), hence if you would have read you would know . Both options can be found in the dev section.

The I9300 is not in the compatible list, but you can always try if you are aware of the risks of bricking or just choose the simple and 'safe' way.

I'm with Christmast. Read the guides and go with cf auto root. Choose either philz recovery or twrp recovery and flash via odin or preferably mobile odin (if required)

Ok talking about flashing.....I have never done that before. What is flashing...... The only thing I root for it to freeze the apps that runs in the back ground that kills the battery life.

Yep. Initial root requires a computer.
If you really need to root right now, download Odin and CF-Root on your phone and ask someone to borrow their computer or use a public computer. Move the files to the computer and root it in less than one minute and you're done!
i have a few questions maybe you guys can help... so here we go:
when you root with odin, it unlocks the phone giving you su right. does this also change your rom?
how is the launcher different than the rom? difference between flashing rom and kernal?
last one... when you install a custom rom, can you delete it if there are bugs to reinstall a different one or use the stock?

Problems/doubts related to rooting the phone

I was going through threads on rooting, ROMs, kernels and bricking. Before reading threads about bricking I wanted to root my phone but after reading I got scared of bricking my phone which I think is difficult to debrick (unbrick).
Is it really the case that we cannot debrick the phone at home? Is it ok to root with such a consequence?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
All I can say is if you're that worried about it, don't root your phone or flash anything. Leave it on stock & enjoy it.
Is it possible to change ROM without rooting the phone?
And what are the chances of bricking the phone while rooting? And if bricked what is procedure to make it as earlier

use this to root your S2...It is 100% risk free. However use only if u are on ICS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
Also, read everything before u flash a rom/kernel..95% of them get bricked without reading or consulting properly

[Q] How can I unroot my phone ?

Hi,
I want to unroot my SGS3 just to compare with stock ROM. I tried this :
http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-unroot/how-to-unroot-galaxy-s3-i9300/#comment-4415
But during the flash of cache.img everything stops and the phone is rebooting.
But like I said in the commentaries when my phone is rebooting I've a black screen. Then I tried to flash it directly with Heimdall but I've got this error
ERROR: Partition corresponding to -modem argument could not be located
Ending session...
Rebooting device...
Re-attaching kernel driver...

And when I remove the modem.bin my phone stays with the "Samsung" and never get to the PIN code.
Do you have any idea how could I unroot my phone ?
Thanks.
PS : I'm using Ubuntu, I can't use Odin.
Use mobile Odin. This can unroot I believe.
Edit: sorry this isn't correct search for cfroot (with cwm recovery) there is an unroot method in 2nd post (unable to post link atm, sorry)

Yes i read all your posts you have UBUNTU so what you need to do is buy ODIN mobile from play store download a stock rom depending on your country from sammobile.com. Extract the zip file get the tar file and put it into your sd and use mobile odin to flash back to stock.

No. Once you're rooted, there are tools you can use to update ROMs without a computer, but you've got to at least have superuser access.
There's no way to gain that which doesn't require a computer.
I think he's on a rooted ROM already, hence why he's wanting to go back to stock rooted. Use mobile odin from the play store. There's many threads on how to use it, so search for one of those. I'd give you detailed instructions or link you to them, but I'm on my phone and not at home to get to the computer. Hope this helps

Looking to root my SGS3 again

I would use CF-Auto-Root or CF-Root 6.4 but I can't find any working link anywhere and it seems this site has some issues http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/
I once used Framaroot, worked like a charm. Went to use it again... It doesn't want to know
I'd greatly appreciate it if a suitable link was provided.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately all the links say "Database error". And attempt after attempt on all 3 options, Framaroot is still being stubborn.
if you are using a stock rom you can re flash it by using Mobile Odin Pro. it is in the play store for about $6 . make sure to tick the option for Everoot. this will install the rom pre-rooted. you may want to back up efs folder before flashing anything . Best of luck.
nevermind I forgot you need root to use it. sorry
Framaroot should work if you flash an older unpatched build but that could be risky.

I learned staying away from mg4 the hard way. I flashed Cyanogenmod 10.1 nightly to a stock rom only to find that I dug my own grave as I previously had an mg4, so I had to flash back to it. And I'm not sure what I've flashed via recovery, I may have but I just don't remember.
Edit: and on a side note, a rom is different from firmware right? Since I got into the whole imei problem I forgot what goes where and what flashes what, it shook me up.

Thanks for all of your help. Although I may not use your methods now, they will certainly come in handy in the future.
As for cm... although it was one of the best things that happened to my phone... I will not touch it again or anything like until 10.1 is stable because it gave me hell xD I'll be running with my rooted phone and root apps until that time comes.

if you are on MG4 firmware or rom. you will most likely lose imei if you flash any previous modem. I would back up efs folder going forward. probably best to stick to MG4 based builds for now .there are some custom roms with the MG4 base in the android development threads .since that is a newer build than most. that explains why it has been patched. why framaroot and cf root are not working. There is a prerooted stock firmware for MG4 if I find it p will share the link
