I'm not trying to make a versus thread. I have tried all three and to be completely honest they all basically feel the same to me- I was just wondering if there are any snazzy features in one absent in the other. I am personally using Nova launcher currently but it has stopped working on me several times on AOKP build 32. Also if anyone could give a little input for reliability on either apex or trebuchet as i've been using Nova the longest I believe.
I think apex is the best. It seems to be totally fully featured, as in a few things that come free as opposed to paying for a few extra features on nova (I can't remember exactly what the were)

I installed APEX as soon as I installed AOKP and I havent look elsewhere.
Apex bothered me with its "All, Downloaded, Widgets" app drawer setup, and I didn't see a way to remove the Downloaded tab. So I use Nova.
Apex They are great at responding to e-mails if you have any problems. I was having an issue they gave me a beta version that's not released I gave them feedback and then they pushed the beta to the play store

That part of it is a tad on the weird side, since it is not called that in the drawer
I have to be honest, I used ADW back with CM7 and just kept on using it. Easier to keep backed up even since no ics rom seems to use it so it's not a system app.
As long as I can make folders and stick five apps at the bottom I'm happy.

I feel apex is very stable and customizable and free. Nova u have to pay for more features and i never use the cm9 version so i might check it out but idk apex has all i need and plus some

Apex is nice mite go back to adw when mms counts r fixed with it in ics love apex but it almost the same and i already paid for adw plus 20 bucks worth of pro themes ( i like a custom dock backround )

well it sounds like I need to get more friendly with Apex, but I do agree that trebuchet is a good launcher. Nova has just unfortunately slipped up too many times for my tastes...
Apex ftw!
I've been playing around with apex and got my homescreens how I like them but one thing i've had trouble with is widgets. Several widgets have needed re-sizing and in order for the widget to not be chopped off i have to re-size it to where it takes up more room than it should. I have stock (240) dpi, and I played with the persistent search bar but no dice. It may just be that they aren't being sized correctly in the first place by apex i dunno...
Why i say trebuchet beats them all its because it works the way it should no issue really simple settings and doesn't too much like a custom launcher...

I use Nova and paid for Prime. It's only a little bit of money. I tried Apex and didn't like it as much. I didn't like Trebuchet because I couldn't do anything about the dock. Roll with what you want.
i didn't like Trebuchet launcher. There wasn't really that much customization you could do. Apex was pretty cool IMO but, for some reason i couldn't place down any widgets, so i moved on to Nova Launcher. It works fine for me. I haven't had any problems whatsoever and i can deal with the free version. Just my 2 cents
I like apex it has a little more options to customize things like folders and how they look. It was a little annoying how I couldn't put Widgets down from application drawer but if you long press screen you could place widget down or download apex apk and move it to system apps through root explorer and reboot.

I have used Go Launcher since the start with my Tbolt. I use a lot of widgets and it bogs down. I thought I would try Sense. It runs great until I leave it (run a program or put to sleep. When I hit the home key I get a green and white HTC screen and it says "loading". With Golauncher you could tell it to stay in memory. Any way to make Sense stay in memory?
Thanks in advance.
If you're rooted you could try the v6 supercharger script. It makes the launcher harder to kill and helps it stay in memory.

You could also add this to the bottom of your build.prop
ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1
It forces the launcher into the memory.

Doesn't go launcher have an option to lock home in memory built into the app.

I'm not rooted. Just using a stock TBolt. If I get rid of most of the widgets sense will stay in memory. It does run faster than GoLauncher (will all the widgets running). I'll just keep it minimal. So when is Verizon going to step up to the plate with the one x or s? Then I could run some widgets!

I have not rooted my EVO LTE yet. But I installed ADW EX for now and can't stand the menu button on the bottom. It takes up too much space.
I'm not a Sense fan and was hoping version 4.0 was better, but but after a couple of days I still prefer pure Android. Unfortunately I can't figure out why HTC and others are adding permanent home, and back and recent buttons when ICS looks better without them.
Even when I root and install CM9, for example, I'll have a huge menu button that takes up too much space.
Anyone see what I'm talking about?
What can we do about it?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Man I installed go launcher and I'm wondering the same exact thing. I upgraded to this phone to have a bigger screen than my s2 and I can't even do that without sense..
Does anyone know how to get rid of that menu vertical ... at the bottom?
I think an option is to use Apex or Holo launcher. They seem to be better suited for ics. Just saw a video review of it here http://goo.gl/cykps
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Another option is Nova Launcher. It is a true ICS launcher that is really slick and and does away with the three dot menu.
There is a mod that could be flash to remove menu bar and remaps it. Have you guys tried it?
Sent from my EVO using XDA
If you flash cm9 they remapped the buttons that crap is gone, it's running way better than sense also. Just a few minor issues.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
But is there an official CM9 out for the evo? One thing I'm not liking is the 1gb ram and sense. Sense is still too heavy for 1 gb ram. Sometimes it takes 15-20 seconds to load the sense launcher.
I bought apex pro. Better, but when I jump to different apps then hit the home button, sometimes it takes a few seconds to load the launcher.
That just tells me memory is running out somewhere (sense).

OP, just to clarify, when you unlock and run CM9 , you WON'T have the big long menu bar. Even on sense, if you're rooted you can get rid of it.

+1 on Nova.
Running Fresh 1.0 with Nova launcher, no lag but never really had any of the Sense 4.0 reload issues that some talked about anyway. Figured it was just the GS3 people trying to troll but maybe a bad batch of cells went out too..
Anyway, NOVA is sick! Setup the way you want, gives you better visual then GO etc (IMO) and great on footprint (memory). Works very well and as the other user stated, its native to ICS anyway. Give it a shot, blows the doors off anything else I tried and no lag anywhere..
Fresh is great too IMO, there are some great multitasking tips using the ROM toolbox, adjusting heaps etc..works well also,

What you say would be a solution for my discontent. I'm going to root soon and will remove some of the sense bloatware, but removing the menu also interests me. Regarding CM9 once it's officially supported ill be on board.
I bought apex and almost bought nova instead. They both look interesting.

Just to let you know the menu button on the bottom shows because those apps having been optimized to ICS, yes after 7-8 months and developers still doing the same, thats the reason you dont see any system apps doing that, cause their optimize, I wish developers would tho

Another option I wouldn't mind would be to hack the recent apps button to make it think it's the menu button. I'm used to long pressing the home button anyways. I think the Sgs3 is like that.

Is there a way to send Emoji's with the stock messaging app? Maybe I am just totally looking over something but I don't see it anywhere. I know I can see them when other people send them to me. Well they have a "Android-like" skin to them but they are still there. In stock Android I know you can use them for 4.0 and above.
My wife did some research, could not find a way to use those on Android.

Oh you can definitely use them on Android. If you run stock Android and it's 4.0 and above, it is built into the native messaging app. If you don't have stock or 4.0 and above, you can download a messaging app like Handcent and you can use them that way. They are definitely ways to use them. I just want to know if there is a way to use them in the native messaging app in Sense

Hmmm. Here's what I would try next, just for the hell of it: remove all of your icons from your dock and from your main home screen. Change your wallpaper to something else stock. Reboot. Put one normal, everyday (like the phone dialer or people, etc) icon/shortcut - not a widget - in your dock. Reboot. Check lockscreen. See your shortcut?
HTH!
Try going to personalize under settings and go to lock screen. There should be options for different lock screen options.

What did you install before this happened? You said you are stock, but are you rooted? Delete anything? This wouldn't just disappear without either clicking that setting off, or deleting something you shouldn't have.
I know you said stock... but did you install a different launch.. ie Nova, Apex... etc. and stop/freeze sense. When i did that i lost the lockscreen apps. Kinda sucks but sense needs to be running to have those, regardless of using it or not.... Good luck

Don't disable Sense. As far as enabling it to change the dock, just go into Nova settings and use the "Default launcher" button towards the bottom. Go to Sense, "Just Once" and set your dock. Hit the Home button and click Nova, "Always". Done.
