Battery Life? Samsung 4.1.2 vs AOSP 4.2.2???? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone done a true comparison of the battery life between
- Latest Samsung Rom 4.1.2
- Latest AOSP Rom 4.2.2 (anyone)
I'm curious to know which one has more battery life?
Has anyone done a real test and posted results?
Thanks

For me 4.2.2 with DorimanX kernel got better battery than any 4.1.2 combination. And again, this is just my opinion.

Same here. I'm using SlimBean build5 with Dori 9.16 and battery life is better than stock 4.1.2.

Aokp cm ect have better battery life than stock. I could get 1% drain over 8 he's sleep. 12% with stock
alliance 7.3
siyah v6.0b5
nels1

I think aosp has better battery life but I came from PAC man rom 4.2.2 to chameleon (Sammy base aosp apps and look) and battery's almost as good

I was worried about this too but after using 4.2.2 for last couple of weeks its pretty much the same as 1.2. Tried Illusion Rom and RootBox and battery life is satisfactory. Especially since I didn't do anything to improve on it. Didnt even try custom kernels which will improve it for sure!
So for now I can't see myself going back to 4.1.2

[Q] AOSP vs Touchwiz

Hi all,
I keep reading but I don't seem to find a definite answer for this question. I read somewhere that because of i9300 processor (samsung didn't reveal the codes or sth) the performance and battery life on Custom ROM based on AOSP and CM is not as satisfactory as Stock or Touch-wiz based roms.
Is this true? I love to use CM but the battery indeed seems to drain faster. Any idea of when i9300 users might get to use solid AOSP or CM based ROMs?
Thanks mates!
I am curious about this too. It seems that AOSP ROMS will always be imperfect as long as the Exynos codes arent released.

I have messed around with a few ROMS (mainly sammy based one's) and using a SAMMY ROM with a new launcher is a strong base.
Why not start by finding a good sammy based ROM (i'm using Viking ROM although may switch to HyperLight) get a nice setup, then you can simply backup and mess with ASOP & CM yourself knowing you have a rock solid alternative to fall back on.
You can make up your own mind then ^^

Cm10 is rock stable and has better battery life than sammy. (For me) but camera has some problems. Just try it. You can always revert it to sammy

CM10 is still nightly build right? I tried some ROMs like slimbean and liquid smooth but the battery performance is significantly not as good as stock. Am i right?
Yes right...
The stock ROM gives awesome battery life...
I tried CM10 but it seems to drain battery faster...i mean not that faster...
On my galaxy sl i9003 you cant even imagine what actually battery drain is....
Life 7hrs and gone but on my S3 the battery is OK about a day or day and a half and still 34% left !!

Wah. A day and a half??? I can't even achieve it with stock rom. What kind of tweaks do you use?
I just rooted a while ago and have just been flashing ROM this and that. Have never tried custom kernels or mods.
Would love to hear some tweaks that will last me 1.5 days with CM10. haha. Share with me bro.
If you can tolerate the few minor issues/glitches here and there, nothing beats CM10.

okay. So i do not need any kernel and tweaks for excellent battery life is it?
tried so often cm9&cm10, lately slimbean.
was AOSP fan on my desire, but not on the s3 (yet)
none of them made me stick to AOSP for more than 1week...
too many "bugs" - minor things who annoyed me like: **** camera&video (unstable), battery life, calling bugs (low voice volume) etc
ive to admit that slimbean + siyah kernel beats everything, the battery life is rly nice (nearly liek sammy roms). siyah kernel helps alot concerning the battery life on AOSP!
still ive to use a sammy rom cuz of stability and reliability.
id look forward to a fully working AOSP rom, hopefully soon.

What good is a ROM that is stable (as in doesn't crash) but ISN'T fully functional (as in has issues w/ hardware) ?
I want a ROM that is both stable and fully functional, even if it isn't the benchmark champion.
For me, the stock ROMs offer the best of the 2 worlds: they are stable and functional.
Yeah, let the flame start, but I am yet to see an AOKP/AOSP/CM ROM that doesn't have a single issue with hardware.
So, stock ROMs for me are the winner.
I use NOVA Launcher Prime, BTW, but the TouchWiz that came with today's stock JB (France, XEF) is extremely fast and as customizable as Nova Launcher.

There is miui rom that offers sammy+miui experience. I think it's called rayglobe, but it's based on 4.0.4 so it is never as smooth as jb

samsung vs aosp roms (battery) / show ur WIFI drain results!

hello,
iam switching between samsung rom and aosp roms lately and the battery life keeps me wondering.
using a custom kernel and slimbean (ie.) the battery life rly improved compared to a few months now, but WIFI takes still more battery compared to samsung roms.
is that normal? any advises for that? ive exactly the same apps and 0 wakelocks cause of other apps (everything tweaked rly).
but still WIFI takes 1,5%/h on an aosp rom.
any experiences on that?
what are ur results?
I'm on CM 10.1 and the wifi consumes more battery for me either. but I'm not much bothered about it 'cause i charge the battery whenever needed.

You will have to play with a combination of Devil Kernel settings to get the battery life you want. But your still not going to get stock battery life as this is so experimental everyone is still playing with settings to get max out of it. You can get 18 hours out of the latest, but not with heavy use.
I m getting very good battery life on the latest nightlies..... Idle drain is lowest I have seen on any ROM I have used. I m on stock cm kernel

Me too. Getting the best battery performance i have ever seen. Was in disbelief. Purposely put on wifi to help it run down faster. ha!
I was getting an extra 5 hours easy with the stock kernel. Tophaholic is right, the idle drain is next to nothing. Beans is still better than stock, but not quite as good as cm10.2 in terms of battery life.
I am running the latest nightly for 10.2, but I am getting terrible battery life. Any ideas how to force the CPU to idle?
!0.2 has the best battery life of any AOSP rom ive tried, mainly because of android 4.3. Cant wait till we get a sammy build!

[Q] SlimROM 4.3 battery drain??

I just upgrade my i9100 from ASNET MIUI V5 ROM ANDROID 4.1.2 to SLIMROM BUILD 2 ANDROID 4.3,... but after it my battery got drain very quickly... even in sleepmode, battery drain 100% in just 6 hours without doing anything????... From I know android 4.3 should be better battery life than 4.1.2....I would like to use my i9100 as mobile data and wifi tethering only for my galaxy s4 i9500, is there some kernel and ROM better battery life for suggestion??

Honestly, I've also used the SlimBean. Consumes a bit 'too much for my taste, the only ROM that does not have a battery drain is the Cyanogen 9

Best Kernel for i9300 BlissRom 4.0.1 (Battery life)

Hi - I'm using BlissRom 4.0.1 on my S3. It looks great.
My battery drains fast though - and nothing much is coming up in Betterbatterystats.
Anyone use any Kernels that improve battery?
Thnx!
