I asked because there is a fix for 4.2 GPS, but this is first instance of it not working on stock I recall. Only thing I can think of is making sure the apps have permission in location access settings.
Edit....I should also have asked how you updated to JB, was it by ota, lgnpst, or flashable zip.
I used the update function...I'm a noob what's that?

See its strange ...my phone picks me up no problem
However when I actually use the navigation feature it never finds me. The GPS location works wonderfully and the" get directions" feature work. Its the navigation feature that never shows me going on the road
It worked once or twice when I got lost in Louisville ky but hasn't since
Louisville is a big city but I get lte quite often so I don't know

I am not on stock but theses settings are pretty standard, after getting them set as shown download GPS Test app and t will show how many SATs are in view and in use.
anyone else having this problem? guess i cld try a reset but idk

They probably removed the option like many other options in the ICS update.

I can confirm longpressing search can pull up soundhound among other things.. when you longpress it currently, what happens? Were you using gingerbread last time it works, and are you on stock ICS now?
I have no idea if it worked when I was on stock, I have been using custom roms like energy rom for a long time now.. once definite difference between stock and most roms, we don't have an area in system settings to change app associations like there was on stock- this might be because they removed the APK that deals with app associations.
Or are you using soundhound free or paid? I am on paid, and maybe they made that a paid feature?(I bought when it was 10 cents on the market, lol)

Sorry, I was so distracted by the random girl toes by your post.. what is u/g? And upon thinking about it, the long press of search is one of the few features they might add with the paid version, I'm pretty sure free was mostly functional, but I don't think that would be included on the free version..

My SoundHound JUST started coming up in the sound search! The only thing different about my phone now is that I installed Handcen SMS...I tried to do a voice search on Google today and noticed that Handcent, QR Code Reader, and SoundHound all showed up along with Voice Search for once.
I'm pretty sure there's no rhyme or reason to this, but now it seems to be working fine and I didn't have to u/g to get it working either...but prob still will anyhoo...

That horizontal arrow you mentioned is called Wifi Direct
Due to the leaked jellybean some of the xda people have been complaining about the wifi direct issue as it appears while the wifi is switched on.

You can install an AV app that has a firewall like avast. It should allow you to block anything and everything trying to get out.
It should also log and report any malicious programs. I use it and it is very good.

Aside from this great quote, thanks for the WiFi Direct icon. It's been driving me nutz trying to find out how to dispose of it. Guess I'll have to just wait for the OTA version of JB which is supposed to be online any day now. Unfortunately given Samsung's reputation for "on-time" releases, it might be another month or longer before the official 4.1.1 makes it to us.
Thanks, nodstuff!

Ain't nobody got time for that
If one was using the stock ROM but had it rooted, updating would presumably deroot the device, right? Or would the update fail?
I meant Q-slide was suppose to be working with other apps, like the whole browser not just certain videos, and it was suppose to work with other apps natively. In the notification bar there was suppose to be a Q-slide bar under the brightness bar and you could select apps to play over your current app.

bloat isn't really a factor here but we can all expect better JB roms
Took AT&T long enough

Dude I NEVER had that option since I took the phone out the box at the AT&T store. You're saying you had that to begin with? I find that very odd....
So I did some searching around to see exactly what Q Slide is SUPPOSED to be and I think you must have this feature confused with something else or another phone all together. Even on various videos and LG's own website, Q Slide is used to watch VIDEOS and use apps at the same time. It says absolutely nothing about having 2 different apps on top of each other at the same time. I think you are confusing yourself mate.

While browsing a bit last night I luckily stumbled across a recovery flashable zip that fixed all my GPS issues on AOSP. I had previously tried all the other fixes that have been posted thus far and none worked on the 20130601 VRB nightly, the previous VRB nightlies, any of the PA releases, or any of the other various AOSP ROMs.
In the post it states that this will work with any of the t0lte phones, the VZW Note 2 is the t0ltevzw for those of you who have only heard of it referred to as the i605, so I gave it a shot and lo and behold my GPS locked within 5 seconds where it previously wouldn't even pick up any satellites.
So those of you having the same problem try flashing this:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/40116-42...de-hello-halo-0604/page__st__490#entry1184057
Here is a link to it in my Dropbox for those of you who would rather not use Rootz:
http://db.tt/PnvlFhgy
The way I flash it and the way I have always gotten it to work is to open Maps first, click the GPS shape to get it to find you, wait until it says "Unable to locate", reboot directly into recovery, flash this fix WITHOUT WIPING ANYTHING, reboot and open Maps, profit. When you are testing Maps after you flashed the fix make sure you are outside to give it the best possible chance to find satellites. If it still locks show but you are getting a lock try using FasterGPS from the Play Store to change your GPS.conf, to do so open the app, grant it superuser privileges, and select the correct continent and region under NTP Server. It should be North America for the continent and United States for the region unless you are using the i605 out of country, if you are using it out of country then select the appropriate continent and region.
I didn't create this nor in any way, shape, form, or fashion take any credit for this fix, the credits go to alba on Rootz. The only thing I have done is post it here so hopefully the people with GPS issues will see it and finally be able to use it.
EDIT:
For those of you that flash this please leave a comment starting if it did or did not work and what ROM and kernel you're using. If you haven't flashed a kernel then just put something like "using kennel that came with ROM." This way maybe we can see which ROMs it works with and which it doesn't so hopefully we can troubleshoot it and get your GPS working.
Also if the fix doesn't work download GPS Status or GPS Toolbox from the Play Store and see if your phone is even seeing the satellites. If it is it will show you something along the lines of either 0/0 or 0/x# of satellites. I have included some screenshots to show you how to find the number of satellites in GPS Status.

Had it on my work phone, bone stock 4.5.605.14 OTA ROM with lots of stuff disabled... It works, but it is very slow, laggy, and jittery, but aside from that, lots of functionality seems gone or more difficult to use, such as the Measure Lab add-in is gone that I used frequently, in fact all Lab add-ins are gone. I removed it and side-loaded version 6.14.4 back in and everything was wonderful again.
Jitters on new maps
Some, if not everyone, of us have seen the jumping of the screen in the new maps. I have found that if you use Expanded Desktop (if your ROM supports it) the map jumping goes away. Objects that overlay on the screen, like the search, or addresses, etc...seems to have a flutter, but the map itself does not jump around.
i thought of trying this because I noticed that when the screen jumps, it would move just about the that same amount as the size of the status bar. Other times the map would show through the status bar, so without the status bar, things work much better. Not a fix, but workaround if you do not want to downgrade.
Not sure if this is helpful to anyone with the mindset and skills to dig deeper, but wanted to share.
I'm on the latest Infection with that maps release. I had to pick up my wife's sister on my way home from work and she was in a part of town that I don't know so I had to use maps. It was jumping around like crazy. So I hit home button the went into developer settings and disables hw overlays. It instantly stopped jumping around during that session. At end though when I was going through menu it started acting weird. But the twenty minutes I was using the navigation it was fine. Oh and I heard about the hw overlay fix somewhere in the infection thread I believe.
