Contact pictures, broken up images - AT&T HTC One (M7)

I was wondering why the pictures of my contacts look like dots. It's like the image is broken up into dots, anyone else experience this?

That's just how they are if you don't have the contact linked to a social networking profile or choose your own picture from the gallery.

That is when the sync picture resolution is not big enough to prevent the picture blurr. That is why I think they use dots to display it.

hey bro i had the same problem... if u transferred the contact from a different phone by HTC transfer tool, this what u will get............
best solution is change your contact to gmail account (no more on phone) and change the contact pictures that u want with pictures from gallery for one time (i know its sucks).... also if u have some of ur contact linked to facebook, that should update ur friend pictures without dots

Actually, there are issues with gmail as well. Check out this long thread over at Adroidcentral about the issue:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-one/270273-contact-picture-issue.html
I setup all my contacts on gmail.com and uploaded hi res images (some 3000x3000!) and they still show up dots. I'm just living with it right now until I get the urge to move all my contact photos locally to the phone.

here's what I did
open the contact touch the picture it gets larger with a setting in the bottom right corner. Choose that and then from the choices choose phone and the picture cleared right up. Did not work with every picture so I deleted those and got new one's from gallery / facebook or where ever.

Facebook contacts pics

I have an xt910 running on the latest EU version and I am facing a problem. I have some of my contacts linked with their Facebook so their photo shows when they call me. The first time I linked them everything was ok and their pics was shown correctly. But when someone updated their pic it showed it as blanc. Now none of my contacts has a pic displayed regardless if it is a simple Facebook contact or a linked one. I have the latest Facebook app from the market. I think it has something to do with the folder which the Android stores those pics and I want to delete it to see if it will force the update. Does anyone knows where they are stored or has any suggestions about the matter;

It was easy to force update of Facebook contacts on wp7.. Not so easy on Android..
I'm interested in a way to force it besides using an app which is free on goggler play, which messed up my contacts by attaching the wrong image to the wrong person..
Sorry, this is my first Android phone.. Previously on wp7, blackberry and Nokia 5800..

Go into config/aplications/manage apps/... and clear the contacts app cache, this may solve the black pics.
Thanks

I just cleared data for anything with "contacts" in the name, and your contacts will resync.
I have Facebook and friend caster pro installed. Friend caster syncs HQ pics when setup correctly and has kept them up to date for me.

This this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nloko.android.syncmypix&hl=en
In conjunction with getting rid of the god-awful Facebook app and using your Browser (which is quicker, less of a battery drain and doesn't scan your text messages!)
HD contact photos on Play Store, that app fixes blurry contact pics
None of these apps sync with facebook I dont. Have the pictures on my phone to do it manually
There is an option for fb
i use Facebook contact sync by danut chereches. it pulls 720*720 images and links it to your contacts. it can also set how often to refresh the info as well. you can set the pic size if u want as well...
it has a nice feature that links the contacts based on fb notes that are attached to you phone contacts when you first linked it via facebook's app. so it's practically automatic.

facebook contact picture issue

As the pictures of facebook are low res, I downloaded an app to insert high def pictures from my computer (HD contact photos)
Now I found a method to download the high res picture from facebook, but cannot find a way to set the contact picture back to facebook picture...
I had an HTC wich had a little arrow next to the contact pictures wich was used to switch between a preloaded one, or the most current facebook one.
Does this phone have this to?
thx
Use haxsync it works great.

Screen Shots and Saved Photos Locations

So apparently the photo gallery will only show pictures you take with you camera. So where are the other photos like screen shots and saved imaged from texts and the internet. I cannot locate them. Is there a 3rd party photo gallery app we can download to view these photos?
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
Press the "My Photos" slide in the main gallery. It will take you to album view where you can see screenshots and downloads.
Sorry to hijack is there any way to get rid of the Facebook photos inside the gallery I hate that thanks for the answer if there is one?!

I've read this is a bug that HTC is aware of but have also read that HTC support told a user this is normal operation. If you are rooted you can freeze "Facebook for HTC Sense" which stops the photos from populating your gallery but still leaves a blank "Friends" panel...which I think is better than nothing.

Good to know. I'm having connectivity issues as wellso I may swap to an s4 if it doesnt get better soon.

Low resolution contact images

Ok we have all heard this before, but this seems to be G2 specific?
Previously this issue had been fixed google side circa 2012 and hi res images were sharp on stock Android with Nexus 4. Now however they're back to blur on G2. Anyone get the same?
Same here low res

Yup. And I wish you hadn't pointed it out.

Just use haxsync on playstore. Changes your pictures to hi res.

Is there a way to do this without a Facebook account?
For example, my gmail contact photos on the desktop are higher resolution but those same contacts have different pictures *and* lower res on Android. I sync all my contacts, so I'd expect their photos to be synced as well.
Aw, man, this is a bummer. Wonder what the issue is, as this was resolved by Google some time ago...
Back when it was still an issue, I used "contact photo sync" from the play store. It stores your contact photos as a separate picasa/Google+ album, and syncs pictures there. You have to start with hi-res pics on your phone, though. At any rate, it worked well for me and doesn't use Facebook.
Still bummed if this is an issue (my sprint g2 arrives Tuesday)

If you readd the photos it should be fine. I did this and then when I reflashed and synced there wasnt a issue.

This app worked great. You just need to get the settings correct so it updates all your stuff correctly. Thanks.

What do you mean by re-add the photos? Do you mean put the photos onto phone, then setting it for each contact?
Found a solution for Google+ contacts:
Download contacts+, go to the contact whose pic is ugly, tap the pic, choose sync from Google+.
This will fix the image, then you can uninstall contacts+ when ur done.

I decided just to let LG know about this issue in a chat. I loved this part of the exchange:
REP: Unfortunately this will be the resolution that the phone will display after you sync with the account. Since the pictures are not coming directly from the phone but from the server, it will be displayed that way.
me: hmmm, i came from a Galaxy SII, running android 4.1, and it did not have this issue
me: the G2 is on a newer version of android
REP: That's right. This will be the actual phones feature.
me: so this is a "feature" of the G2? to have low res pictures on sync?
Low Res Contact Pics FIX
1) Star All Contacts or only Contacts with Pics
2) Settings > Sync > Sync Now (this is the step that helped me ensure all contacts will sync with high-res photos).
3) Clear Cache/Data in Contacts App & Contacts Storage
4) Go back to Settings > Sync
5) Sync all your contacts back in and you got your high quality pictures
EDIT EDIT:
Make sure you clear cache/data in both Contacts App and Contacts Data. When I only cleared Contacts App, half the photos were still low-res.
When I cleared both apps and then synced, all photos were high quality.
Special thanks to @AndroidStop & @yyz123 for figuring this out & posting steps
