Does anyone know if the Viewsonic G Tablet will be compatible with Android 4.0?
I'm really hoping that with the better then average specs the G tab has that it can handle this latest and greatest ROM
It is not about horsepower, the source code for drivers is not available yet and may never be even with the agreement... Froyo is the only os with true drivers from what I gather. Maybe ginger will have them soon. Otherwise just settle for nexflix on ginger or a camera/skype on froyo. Very frustrating!
U do know
#1 ICS was just announced
#2 2.3 is not supported by VS or nivida on this device
#4 There is a search on this site and a site called google?
I'm not trying to be a a$$, Just tired of these type posts we saw all this with 3.0. Please use the search before asking any questions. I can guarantee you that that 99% of all questions you would have are located in these forums. I have been a gtab owner since the beginning and before there was a spot for it here on XDA, I have see it all posted and searched for it on my own.
I did try to search for the answer before posting this question, I tried Google first and couldn't find anything that matched even with a very basic search criteria, I also tried to search for it thru this site with no luck. As I'm new to the Viewsonic G Tablet and to XDA Developers I was hoping the question wouldn't annoy anyone to severly. I guess I was mistaken.
A search for the term "Sandwich" in the gtab forums here returns at least 2 other threads on the topic.
You realize between your two ***** posts you've spent more time and space then the OP's original and reply posts... cmon with the forum whining, it's stupid and you DO sound like an @$$

His point was that there are rules in place that we are all supposed to follow. It doesn't hurt to make new (or not so new) users aware of the rules. The very first rule is:
FORUM RULES
1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.
I like this rule too:
2.6 All members are expected to read and adhere to the XDA rules.
If you haven't read the rules they are located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=1101
From what I have heard ICS wants 1 GB of ram while the Gtab has 512 MB. That may have some impact on the operation of ICS and may make it not worth porting to work on the Gtab.
That can't be right. The Nexus S only has 512MB of RAM and Google has already promise an ICS release for it.

Everything on a forum was discussed once. That is not really an enforceble rule, but only in a few cases. That's why is a forum, we can have different oppinions, otherwise it would be called a blog.
And BTW, the way "search" functions are implemented on forums sucks. Sending people to Google is ridiculous IMO.

You're preaching to the wrong choir. I didn't make the rules. Didn't say that the rule was enforcable. What I did say was we are expected to follow them (even if some choose not to) and that there is nothing wrong with pointing the rules out. Sure we can have different opinions & I was just stating mine. I personnally have had no problem finding what I need through search. It just takes a little time familiarizing yourself with how it works (IMO). If you have a problem with the rules and the XDA search functions maybe you should address your concerns or suggestions to XDA or one of the moderaors.
Also, I didn't suggest sending anyone to Google, although I still do use Google to find things because XDA does not contain everything.
Well ics has the same hardware requirements as gingerbread, so its theoretically possible to run it on a vgt with the help of a willing dev

well even if anyone was able to do so wouldnt they need a rom to base it off of pluse a working kernel then having to rework all the drivers on it i mean it wasnt supose to run honeycomb but they have a port working on it so if it was that and it was that the port so go just as fine for ICS just the same as honeycomb is

Enough said. I don't believe his intention was to belittle even though some took it that way. It won't be the first or last time someone speaks or writes something out of frustration. There is also nothing wrong with letting users know how to better use the forums. Could it have been said better, yes. Each of us comes here to either help or be helped. How about we just get back to doing that!

New On XDA or New With Your S3, Here are few Things You Need To Remember Before Posting in the 'General Q&A section' about your Issues.
Here You See And Learn Many More Things When Your Are New On Xda
A Very Nice Detailed Info By Saywhatt
[HOW TO] make a substantial THREAD, POST, QUESTION and POLL
[GUIDE] HOW TO POST: Understanding the UI in posting
[HOW TO] make a substantial THREAD, POST, QUESTION and POLL
Huge Thanks To Saywhatt For Sharing Knowledge
So Here We Go ,
Well we always do notice that people in the 'General Q&A section' are not putting nearly enough information in their Post and Title to get proper solution to ther issues.
Reasons:
[*] A bad Title like ' plz help', ' urgent', 'phone dead' etc.
[*] No relavent info about the phone Model/ ROM/KERNEL/MODEM etc in there post.
Since insufficient info causes hindrence for members who are willing to help and leads to ask lots of questions from them and the very same(lack of info) will delay getting the solution for you.
So this Guide will show you what you need to include in your post to get the most efficient answer to your question.
We'll start with the Title:
- Just Writing Help , Bricked , Guys Help Me out Wont Be Enough For People Having knowledge Of You’re your Issue To Help You Out.
Provide A Better Title Like
“ I Soft Bricked My Phone “
“ Having Kernel Issues”
- You need to be precise, and describe what you're looking for in your thread.
Next, the Information you need to state before you even get into asking your question.
Dont Start Off Or Just Dont Write 'I Flashed This Rom/Kernel And Cannot Boot Up or Stuck At Logo / Boot Loop plz help' and sit and wait for solution's to pour in for you.
Rather try to provide more basic info like:
- The make of your phone. There are many different variants of your device Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 /G/M/P/T
- What Rom/Kernel/Modem you are using?
- Are you rooted/unrooted?
- Have you flashed any mods/scripts/themes?
- Have you changed DPI? If yes, to what?
- Have you done anything to try to solve your issue prior to posting the same?
since these would be very valuable information,
which do aid a member who is ready to help with your issue for sure.
Additionally, visual aids like 'Screeen shot' or a small 'Video clip' will help a lot in resolving issue's in a better way for sure.
For people who are with Stock Rom's:
Please dial *#1234# and post the results (thanks to fxrb) if your not sure about the Rom/Kernel/Modem info.
And also adding the relavent info of ROM/Kernel/Modem to ur signature will save time in providing the same.
After You Completed The Above Steps Its Time When you can ask your question.
And do Remember:
- Do not ask "What rom/kernel/theme is the best?" -or- Something that you have not searched for (it is infact very obvious if you havent), since its against XDA rule
- Be specific and precise in what you want/need. Do not write a 10,000 word essay, or a 3 word question.
And Always Remember On Xda The Most Important Rules :
- Be polite: People never want to help someone who wont appreciate it, or is rude to them. Remember your p's and q's
- Do not bump your thread: It gets annoying and against the rules
This is just a begining and will take a bit to include all of the information needed.
I know there are lots of more experienced users than I, and would love feedback of what to include.
Please do not hesitate to post in the thread or even PM me with your valuable inputs you think needs to be included in this thread.
Reserved
and another one if needed
and one more
well its a pretty decent effort from ur end for sure Buddy
now its the people (new Comers) who has to utilize the same in an efficient way
and if its made 'Sticky' by the Mod's, will be more helpfull

A useful guide for noobs but unfortunately as is always the case on XDA it will probably get lost in translation and as usual you'll have people on asking the same usual questions, the only solution as ive said all along is when people register on XDA as part of the sign up process they must tick a disclaimer that they need to use the search function and if they don't and ask noobish questions they get a temporary ban for a week and if after that they persist a full ban, it might sound extreme but as far as i can see this really is the only solution to stop noobs from posting the same questions day in, day out, year in, year out, it seriously has to be implemented, many good people have left XDA from when i first came on here because of noobs and to be honest you can hardly blame them, pretty much every answer noobs want is highly likely to already be on XDA somewhere and can be found via the search function.

Not supposed to help here the guy is pointing out the correct thread for help .
But in my opinion it would be far better to either rename General to Questions and Answers or just have an open forum where everything is mixed up under one label making it even harder to find anything .
But it also reads as a number of users would prefer utter chaos and no rules .
Their is a significant rise in bricked help lost IMEI posts all due to complete failure to bother reading the rules or even the basic faqs and guides .
Sh**** if a user cannot post correctly how on earth are they going to flash without bricking .

The polite way is to answer the question, then point out it's in the wrong section, rather than just spam "post in Q&A" to force your post count up, at least 500 of his posts (assuming they don't get deleted) are "post in the right section" with no help at all.
You two forum police will do much better if you offer help whilst informing them they are in the wrong section.
they need to learn that they will get help if they follow the rules

But if you just spam "post in the right section" it just makes you look like an ass, you are showing no desire to help, just boss everyone around and call them out in public, you can at least send them a PM something along the lines of "I have reported your post regarding xxx question to the moderators so it can be moved to the correct section, in future please post questions in the Q&A section."
This post accomplishes the same thing without basically shouting "GTFO YOU NOOB!!!" that is basically what you put across whenever you post in these question threads.

Thats where you are wrong i am afraid .
The posts arrive in General section as users are to lazy to read the rules and far to lazy to bother to read faqs and guides . The majority just want a quick fix and care nothing at all about what XDA was or should be .
Glenbun takes a months holiday and we will still get multiple bad post jeez as i type this there are probably three more bad posts .
End result is a forum that's hard to navigate hard to find anything as the good stuff is hidden under piles of rubbish piling up on a daily basis and that's what noobs complain about what is basically their own mess .
Time in my view for a serious review of the rules and the layout as neither really work .
Multiple experienced users no longer bother to even read these non development forums .

Instead of spaming the thread just report the post and tell the mods to move it to QaA thread. No need to talk about that.

Also, if you have any suggestions you can always put them here ---> [All XDA Members] Feedback/Recommendations for XDA. It is read by the Admins daily.
hey guys, I have a question : i have a galaxy s2 phone bought from france, but now i'm in lebanon and i need to use it with a lebanese sim card. the problem is that lebanese cell companies have restricted the use of cell phones that do not have their imei registrated with their companies. Is there a way i could unlock my phone to work with a lebanese sim ? Or should i say unlock the sim ?
I am very confused, if someone could explain to me how this lock works and how to get my phone working in lebanon. Thank you very much in advance !!
Based on your description of the issue, it sounds like you can't do much (or anything) on your end of things... If the carrier requires an IMEI registration, it wouldn't matter whether your phone is unlocked or not, since the carrier still needs to recognize your IMEI. I don't know how the process works, but I would guess you'll need to talk to the carrier about having your phone "registered".
I have to say, their policy is quite retarded, if that's true...
Are you serious?
There is clearly a [Q] here, so don't you think that Q&A is the appropriate subforum?!
Also you when you categorized your thread as a question thread, you probably got a popup message stating that you're about to break forum rules by posting the thread in the wrong subforum, but you still went on and posted it here anyway.
Not to mention that there's a sticky thread on top of this subforum saying that this, what you have done, is against forum rules.

Okay, first of all, let me just state that this post was, before i reported it, in the Galaxy S II General subforum.
Second, just because my join date is recent doesnt mean im a complete idiot that can't read rules and start my period on new forums by breaking rules, there are plenty of people out there who knows to read rules before entering a forum..
Also, how is this flaming?! Please explain.
I was simply telling this member that he was breaking forum rules, maybe a bit harsh or not, since you get several warnins in several ways if you're about to break forum rules.
At least it was a more interesting problem than the usual repetetive tripe that appears on here.
Ive not heard of the OP's problem before.
Correct, having a recent join date doesn't mean you're an idiot, that's not what I said. Thanks for reading the forum rules, not many do. Flaming is verbally attacking someone, so technically, maybe you could class it as not flaming. Either way, it's a harsh way to enter a forum with that kind of greeting. True the OP may have posted in the incorrect section, but next time there's no need to be harsh about it. Apologies if I've over-reacted. End of discussion on my part, this isn't helping anyone.

I could understand that he bypassed sticky threads, or the he/she didn't actually read rules of posting. But i couldn't understand how he bypassed a popup warning that appears if you post a question in wrong subforum. So that's what got me angry.
But maybe i overreacted too, you cant expect anyone to know everything, even if you know that everything has some forms of rules, which you clearly should know about, otherwise there wouldn't be any rules
well i dont either want this to be an unrelated discussion, so i'll just say Im sorry for overreacting. To you Hopper and to OP (if he/she will even read this )
I know this is an odd request but I need the picture to show a friend and I cannot find one.
Could someone take a picture of their Galaxy S 3 booting up where it says "Samsung Galaxy S 3 i9300" just before it gets to the glowing Samsung Logo.
Thanks and I'd be happy to mark 'thanks' afterwards. I know it's a weird request haha.

Uh... google?
Also post questions on the Q&A section and not the General section.
My mate needs one without watermarks or branding that he is allowed to use for his blog or something where he won't get into trouble with copyright or whatever. I obviously already directed him to google. He said if needs be he'll register here himself and ask. Though I offered because I already have an account here.
Also I thought this was a general topic, not exactly a 'Q and A' topic so I posted it here.
Its not a topic its a question .
Topic as in open for general discussion .
I would post boot i have no logo .
My then about where it goes. A mod can of course happily move the thread if needed.
He just needs a picture of the words "Galaxy S III GT-I9300" on black as it boots up. Not the spinning blue logo or whatever.
Dunno if I remember correctly but even if you custom flash the phone it should still have that before the rom boots up its own logo etc.

Your topic title indicates a question. The word "Could" always is used for a question hence should posted on the Q&A one.
As for your request I don't know how to take a screenshot with just the text dunno also if that's even possible best is try again with google I'm pretty sure you'll find one eventually.

I'll say it one last time.. because I've already repeated myself and asked nicely quite a few times...
My mate doesn't want to use an image from google. I don't understand how that's hard to understand.
This topic isn't a debate about being able to lmgtfy
It's "Hey, if anyone has a moment, could they please snap a pic of their SGS3 booting up. That would be great and I'd love you forever"
Honestly I would have expected the worlds biggest smartphone forum to have delivered by now. It's a very simple request and I have asked nicely and I thought we made it clear what he wanted. You guys are normally so helpful. He's not asking for a custom kernel forged from custom silicone. He's asking if you'd take him a quick pic of your phone on a table/chair/floating in the air, at it's boot up, and be cool with him putting it on his blog.
If it could have been me who could have helped, I would have done it no questions asked.
Actually you haven't repeated yourself at all. This is the first time you've said "not from Google".
Previously you had said:
- no water marks
- no branding
- allowed to use.
All these criteria are met on google. Moving the goal posts now is pointless. Besides this site is indexed on Google. Guess what happens to a picture we post here?!
Jeez. Get a grip

HAHA man they get so upset around here dont they? I dont have a s3 anymore since I am now on the note 3. I would have done it instantly.
Come on people give the OP what he needs and move on. No need to bash him or anything. Sure google works but why go there when there are thousands of s3 users right here?

My then about where it goes. A mod can of course happily move the thread if needed.
He just needs a picture of the words "Galaxy S III GT-I9300" on black as it boots up. Not the spinning blue logo or whatever.
Dunno if I remember correctly but even if you custom flash the phone it should still have that before the rom boots up its own logo etc.

BTW the logo doesnt change when you flash a new rom. You might have a red wording with custom recovery but thats it

Translation - why do the work yourself when you can ask someone else to do it.

This is a developers forum, not a "help" forum. We're all here to develop, learn from developers and contribute to ongoing development. Of course there may be backlash when we're asked for non-development stuff that is already readily available in the public domain.

First of all i am not going to start a virtual argument over this, and secondly there isn't anything wrong with just helping someone so we all can just move on. Instead everyone wants to poke and joke.

I helped! No one joked!

No one helped sadly.. I got a friend of mine whom I knew had the phone to take a picture for my other mate who wanted it and she gave him the express permission to use it. I honestly thought that XDA would have helped me out by fulfilling the actual request within minutes.. I guess I was wrong.
Oh and thanks Jet.
