[Q] Question regarding clean ROM install - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hi, this is a dumb question, but I want to do a clean install of Jellybeans 14 (or 15 when it's released).
After the install, is it advisable to restore apps/settings through Titanium backup or a similar application? Or do you guys reinstall all apps from Google Play and reset all settings manually instead and start fresh?
Thanks!

A lot of people do it both ways.
I personally use Tibu but only restore the apps. There were a few apps I used to restore data with the apps and after having bugs with those apps I just decided to use Tibu to install the apps without data. I do have a separate backup folder that has full app and data backup just in case I would ever need them.
Most people recommended using Tibu to restore apps only but each phone is different and you may have no issues when restoring apps + data.

I usually restore data on games and a few other apps that are difficult or time consuming to set up. Otherwise, I just restore apps.

Thanks everyone!
I have a couple more questions:
Do I have to install a ROM downloaded into the external SD card, or should it be installed off internal memory?
If I do SD Swap, which directory should I download the ROM into?
Thanks!

I always put the ROM I am flashing onto my external SD but thats just cause I have more room there and like to keep a few different roms. As for SD swap the only thing I know about it is that it absolutely will not work on AOSP ROMS, but for flashing I dont think it will affect anything. I could be wrong though.

Will installing a custom rom wipe my internal sd card?

Wanting to know if I should install it now or while I'm near a computer.
I'm eyeing "Alien".
Thanks!
No you only lose your data partition

AFAIK, the Atrix has several partitions on the internal sd card, one being data. This is where all of your Apps are stored by default, as well as some app's data.
I would suggest using Titanium Backup Pro (about $5) if I remember to backup all your apps to the other sd card partition (this is the one where all your music is stored, and also what shows up under the stock file manager) or and external one. If you flash often, it becomes a godsend. I have mine set to back everything up every night around 4am!
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Not everything. Only the "data" partition. Don't worry about losing Nandroid backups, backed up apps, etc.
Thanks everyone.
Yeah I ended up using Titanium (long time owner) and all is well.
Cheers!

Backup of game download data for ics move

Sorry if this has been asked somewhere already but I read these forums quite regularly and haven't seen anything mentioned.
I have a number of games that have required large data downloads to operate.
Previously I have just used titanium backup to restore them when changing roms but now with ics this is no longer recommended. Can people let me know what they are using or doing to move game download data or other apps data across to ics.
I don't want to have to redownload this content as some of the downloads are over 700 MB.

Game data is stored on the sd card and like photos etc doesn't get wiped when upgrading roms, unless you format your sd card. They say not to use it but I did restore from titanium and all was fine. The only apps that don't restore are the ones that save to sd card, like xda premium and some 20-40mb games.
To be safe you can also save the stuff you need to PC.
Sent from my GT-I9100
Thanks. That makes sense.
I quite like how titanium backup puts everything together so you are able to restore the whole file app plus data in one go, but if this isn't possible right now, ill stick to saving the data to my PC and restoring it manually just in case the titanium backup doesn't work.

All the apps will restore if you change the setting in TB to install everything onto your internal memory.

Titanium Backup

if i upgrade to a different rom will titanium backup or w.e keep its backups?
Yes, but make sure you don't format the SD card. Please note restoring system data between different ROMs is not recommended at all!
Also, you might want to use the dropbox sync feature just in case the SD card fails.
So i cud just flash a diff rom without sd card in? N android n htc recomend cyanogen n support new roms they say just be carefull
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
You can keep it in, just don't format it explicitly.
Once you wipe (everything except SD card) and install a new rom, you can download Titanium Backup from market and restore user (not system) apps. They should be there since the backups are on the SD card.

Installing rom question

[Q] i am going to install jb rom for my s3..my question is..can i backup my all my apps and it's data..because i have many big games..each one about 1gb..and i dont want to lose them..is there any way?!! Plz need quick answer
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Just install "titanium backup" from play store. Backup your apps and system. Flash your another ROM, install TB again. And restore your apps.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Dont forget to back up to external SD, otherwise when wiping sd card, you lose your backups too. (personal experience)
Also make a nand backup, in case you want to revert
Plus you should already have a backup of your EFS folder .
jje
Dirry.. what is EFS folders ?!!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
EFS contains your IMEI.
it doesn't always happen, but sometimes you can lose that information and your imei becomes 00000000000000 or somesuch.
Where i can find this folder?!! Abd now..the best way ti backup my apps is via nand backup?!! Because i have many games have big extrrnal data not shown or backup with the backup apps..
Here is what i will do and tell me if i made wrong..i will backup my all data with any of backup app..then make a nand backup..to backup the apps external data..then after flashing..i will restore apps from the backup app. .and if i launch itnit will ask me to downliad the data again..but niw i will restore that data from nand backup...is that wilk work?!! Is taht all right..
Thanks....

Here's the easiest breakdown:
Get Titanium Backup. (buy the pro key if you want. If you flash quite abit, it's worth the money)
Back up all your apps (it will also back up your data) and make sure it's backed up to your sd card.
export your messages, call history, and wifi ap as xml (via TB. hit menu to see the export option)
Use your Contact app to export all your contacts as a vcf file.
If you're using a rom that has Aroma Installer, you should be given an option to back the efs folder up. I think it's also found on the root directory or in the system folder. It's a folder that says EFS. you can't miss it.
now go into cwm, do a nand backup.
once that's done.
Wipe cache and data
install new rom.
set it up.
and do the reverse of the backups off everything. (so import instead of export and restore instead of backup)
EDIT: try not to back up system settings. restoring that would most likely cause FCs or a full crash. but restoring the usual apps are almost always ok. Avoid system apps unless you know they're the same.
No.it doesnt backup all app data..i have asphalt 7 which is have 1gb external data and 23mb apps size..and when i made make backup.it just backuped the 23mb...what should i do

It doesn't matter, the big game files are stored on sdcard and are not concerned by flashing process. They'll be preserved and when restoring app the game will automatically detect them.
What we call data app are all settings, stored in /data partition and erased with data wipe process. The graphical data used by games to run are not the same thing.
What Striatum said.
Mean the flashing doesnt earase all data on sd card?!!! (I an talking about internal i dont have external card...and all thing is stored on the internal....that u meab?!!flashing doesnt delete all sd inernal fard?!!!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
no it doesn't erase the internal card. I have maintained the structure of my internal card when I flashed from stock to Omega.
The internal card is treated as a storage card. when they say wipe, they meant wipe the part of the storage that is partitioned for the rom, not for the partition that is for user storage.
So if you follow what I told you.. you would be all set.
Thanks bro

Rooted Verizon s4 MDK is there anyway to get apps to sd?

I searched the forums and I don't see anything sorry if I missed it. Is there a work around to save apps to sd card? Tried updating some apps and phone is telling me insufficient storage. Thanks for your help in advance. I have it set to go to sd card but when I got to where the apps are to move or what have you there is nothing to move to sd.

Guess I need to delete a app to get space to even get that app. Thanks for the quick response. I will delete one and see if I can get it. Hope this works. Deleted 3 apps still says the same.. I can't download Folder mount.
Apps to sd card?
Anyone have any ideas how to get apps to sd card tried deleting some apps due to insufficient space (can't even update a app) deleted 3 apps and still can't download Folder Mount as suggested. Any help would be much appropriated as I am stuck can't update apps or install like this. Did I miss a work around in the OP?
How bad is your storage situation? In terms of MB available?
Also, do you already have Titanium Backup installed? If so, just back up a bunch of apps to your SD card, delete the installs, and then restore from the backups after you've got Folder Mount running and your storage cleared up.

As a reminder, the "/mnt/sdcard" device is INTERNAL memory on this phone. You want to move your apps to /mnt/extSdCard, which is the microsd slot.
I've never tried it, but pretty sure I saw an option in Titanium Backup to move app to sd.

Thanks for the response. So can I go into root explorer and just move that stuff to that designation to fix it?
You could flash a rom with the app to the SD card function. Like darkslide

If I did that wouldn't I still have the same problem when I revert back to stock Rom? Or you thinking flash that save that app(if its a app at all, not sure if the rom your talking about has it baked into it or not) on titanium and restore it on other rom?

No, you can't just move them there. Applications won't be recognized if you just pick them up and move them.
If you choose to use Folder Mount, that's where you want to move things to.
can't

Ok never mind. That isn't going to work. I can't download folder mount that is kind of my problem. out of space when I have plenty. as shown in the screen shots. So basically I am going to have to wipe everything and use my titanium backup to restore apps? I have a feeling even if I erase all of the apps it will still say that as I have so much storage free(internal). Sigh
There are multiple me7 based ROMS that can be flashed that have native app to sd

I haven't pulled the battery oddly enough..(you would think that I would have done that first)... I will try that when I get home as it is in a otterbox case and I am at work and it's a pain to get out. As far as ME7 Builds go last I heard once you flash to a ME7 build you would be stock on ME7. Which I am not trying to do. I am happy with touchwhiz at the moment. Not really into the plain dark look as it is just that to plain for me. Which Rom where you suggesting that you can revert back to a MDK build with? I have a nandroid already. But I tried deleting apps to see if if would let me download it and all it does is delete that app and I can't put the app i just took off back on. With all the storage available. Just kind of baffled that no one has really ran into this. I have TWRP on it now. I might switch it to 4EXT Recovery as it just has way more options.
1. Deleted apps no difference
2. Deleted Cache no difference (TWRP style wipe)
3. When I get off going to try and wipe Delv/Cach (see if that does anything)
4. If all else fails I will do a complete wipe and start with that app.(Even though you can just change the file destination in root explorer to go to sd card. There is also 2 places it stores on your phone you have a internal sd and a emulated storage. I believe this is wear the hang up is being caused.
Just seems strange that you are getting any type of error with the amount of internal storage you have available. When you get an app from tue store itsaves to your phones internal storage, which is not even close to being full. Also if you are rooted you can go back and forth between MDK and ME7 builds. Devs dont really mess with bootloaders when making roms...
