Kernel source, Now what? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Will devs update 4.1.2 ROMs when they free time to make it stable?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app

A good developer/hobbyist would!

Since most ROMs are CM based, I believe the devs are waiting for CM to do something with the source code.

Oh OK thanks!

the kernel source is only a part of the issue
afaik there is still not source for all the other hardware..
kernel source is great but video, audio, nfc, etc driver source would also make things MUCH better..

I thought all that was included in the kernel source

Why no kernels

I understand that some people are making ics rooms and other types of roms like miui. But why are they all getting stopped because there are no kernels for them. What is stopping the kernels from being developed?

I think we need the ics kernel source code
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
It should be possible to make our own kernel from AOSP source code no? I mean, the Droid Eris has a working ICS beta build and working kernel and there hasn't been an "official" Android release for Eris past 2.1.... as far as I know Froyo and Gingerbread were both ported to it from scratch as well.
Dev's now-a-days are stretched thin with how many phones there are out. Most of them are concerned with supporting ROMs and not working on other development outside of that.

No, not few Kernel devs, too many phones, not enough money.

Now that ICS is official....

How long do you guys think until we see kernel source code? I'm looking forward to having OC and these new linero tweaks I hear about

The source isn't available already? I figured it was since it got released.
No the source hasn't been released yet, but it should be soon. The skyrocket which got official ICS on the same day as us just had its source released which means we should see ours really soon.

There is a thread with a YouTube link some where in the gnote forum about linero.. Basically it is a group of uber Linux geeks that took Googles implementation of android and then streamlined/optimized it in ways no one previously thought possible. They are able to achieve a 20 to 50% perfomance improvement with the same hardware - no overclocking.. The thing is, when you add it all up, the recent ics update, the source code release, and the linero optimizations; then you factor in a cadre of fantastic rom developers, what you get is..... My scream for some truly superb gnote icecream.! I sure love the Opensource.

There has been some discussion regarding project" butter tweaks" and the very real possibility that butter is full of cherry picked Linaro gems. If that is true, then we are looking at much the same thing. Still, I would prefer that our developers have the ability to cherry pick Linaro, specifically with our device in mind, rather than a more general... the one size fits all approach Google developers are forced to take.
Take a look at:
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Lina...-and-showing-the-power-of-Open-Source_id31140
(The writer does such a good job of summarizing Linaro; so good in fact, he makes me believe that I understand it.)
And also the xda thread:
"Android Development and Hacking>Android Q&A>[Q] Butter vs Linaro".
(It is a very short thread, easy reading, and they have that Linaro YouTube video linked to play within the thread. In the video they run two operations side by side to show before and after while the developer explains and answers questions. The Linaro developer - has got to be seen to be believed... No really, I'm not kidding. He is computer geekness, wikapedia should post his pic under the definition.)
**warning*"just opinionated rant below!
Last, and not least, the best thing about Linaro group- they are practical and highly productive Opensource subversives, they methodically underminine attempts to lock down and " Iphone" the android ecosystem. No small matter, given the phenomenal growth and it's pervasive utilization in our society.

Has anyone built cm7 for the Rezound? I know I'm going backwards, but I want a stable, fully functional aosp rom til ics kernel source is released. I've searched, but don't see anything

No.
All efforts are being made for ics....working in gb would be counter productive since its been replaced by ics, and the work wouldn't translate to ics.
That's from what I've heard the last few months....

Kernel doesnt impact the RIL version wise. To my knowledge you would have to rewrite a new java RIL

CM9 / CM10

Howdy,
Since our source code has been released, do you guys think our Rezound will officially supported by the CM team soon?

someone will either need to get a rezound or someone like chad or dmeadows would need to apply to be a maintainer which i dont think they will do. We will probably get unofficial cm10 in time and maybe even more unofficial cm versions (cm11?) when they come out.

yep what poison said. its posible if we can find a maintainer but for now as long as we sync with source and put out builds they are stable enough to call them builds. lol
chad is working on his kernel, but he is a busy man, so give it some time. ants lenoob build is awesome as far as cm9 goes. And Neo and i are working on making a build bot for nightlies for AOKP
Hoping!
I love the simplicity and speed of CM so much I'd pay $50 to someone who could get it officially supported. Lol. That's s much as I actually paid for the phone!

So there is hope for i9305!! this is great.. I have been concerned (and am still a little concerned) especially since I'm picking mine up today. Watching closely for Samsung to release the Exynos source code - seeing is believing. Is this Exynos4 Quad Open Source Develop Schedule accurate..
