Possible to connect? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I have an xServe server in my house and im using it as a file storage aka my own cloud storage. i want to know is it possible to browse the shared folders on the phone and stream movies from it and music to the phone? if so how?

Found a temp thing. Not exactly direct. Plex works/

Media streaming with Android has been iffy for me personally but with some XMBC success and combinations of other things I have been able to do pretty well lately. I have much less issues with Apple products but that doesn't really help your request much. You probably know most if not all of this but some decent information that may be useful:
http://www.squidoo.com/media-streaming
Hope that help you some.

[Q] Streaming from pc

hey i have a query
I have a router soley for media streaming as such i have to assign static ips to every pc in the house connected to it
so far i have a ps3 4 laptops and 2 pc connected via wifi and i have one pc by ethernet. not including the server
the server isnt a specially made server its a dell precision 650 with 7 hdds in it and ive basically shared the root of the drives so the pc can share
is there a way to stream to my x10i?
i know theres an option for static ips so thats not an issue but bassically what i want is to be able to browse the pcs sharted drives from with in the phone and perhaps watch a movie ortv show like this
Set up a net server or ftp, probably better on ftp. Then when you've done that on the host and, if it is 192.168.1.101 then go to "ftp://192.168.1.101" then you'll get access to the root of each drive if it's set up right.
That's what I do

It also have an build in MediaServer. Im able to watch Movies or listen to Music with other streaming clients........
So finaly i want to stream the movies on my X10. But it looks like that there is no app for this. Dunno which one is able to get streams from a MediaServer.
Wasnt it DLNA which was improved / implented with the 2.1 Update?
Great shame that there is no way. Isnt it Arcos who already build an Android Media Player?
So if anyone knows a solution pls post it! Im realy waiting for it.

TV Program Recognition Software Help

Hi everyone. I could use some help in identifying an app I lost track of when I had to reset my phone. I found some app that when you point it at the tv set, it would identify what you're watching, what channel you're on and even tell you where in the program you were. I thought it was kinda cool and I have a colleague who's thinking up some uses for it from a business standpoint but I can't remember the app.
I know there's IntoNow that uses audio technology to determine most of the same things but this was purely a video capture/recognition tool. Does anyone have any idea what this app is? I don't think there's a whole lot out there but I can't find it in a google search.
Thanks for any help.

Don't think that's possible without some sort of interface that the phone and the tv can use together. That could be DNLA, bluetooth, or wireless, but I think any of those would take some effort on the user's part and knowing it's capable of doing it to begin with.
There are apps to control your computer, but those are far easier to do. There's one for winamp, vlc and media player classic home cinema, just to name a few.

Thanks for the email guys. The app is VideoSurf for anyone that wants to try it out. It's pretty awesome but I did find that it seems to take longer than IntoNow; perhaps cause it's processing the video and not just the sound?

[Q] Streaming movies from PC to Evo 3D

I don't know if this has been posted yet. I had searched and didn't find anything.
I am trying to stream movies from my PC with windows 7 to the 3D. Every time I search for media devices, it says no devices found. I think I have everything set up on the computer right but it still won't connect.
Thanks in advance!

I thought you can only stream from your phone to PC and not the other way round.
when i'm at home, i just use cifs manager to mount my windows shared folders.
this allows me to play (stream) the videos via wifi as if they were on my sd card
Try to use SimpleSync or Skifta. they seem to work
Make sure that media sharing is on on your computer

Have a look at the guide I wrote a while back. Might just help you out.

PC-> Evo streaming
This isn't exclusive to the evo but Plex is an application that can do it. Just install the computer and android version. After it catalogs your desired folders or entire hard drive it will stream it.
Awesome! Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate all the helpful responses!
Now, are there any apps that will allow me to stream movies from my PC at home to my phone at work? Both are connected to wifi.

You could try Orb. Not sure what quality you'd get, not used it for a few years but if memory serves me right it transcodes on the fly to flash format so you can watch movies on your phone via a flash enabled browser. I used it for a bit on a wii before homebrewing it.

Would this allow 3d movies to be steamed? That is really the only thing I would want to steam and I have a ton of them. Way too many to put on my 32GB sd card. I have already filled twice and had to delete a bunch of stuff.

Yeah, I know what you mean about not enough space on a 32gb SD
Thinking about buying one of those 64gb cards.
Tbh I've not tried tversity with this phone yet, but i believe it transcodes to flash, so might work seeing as we can view 3D YouTube vids *shrug*

[Q] Getting 1080P movies to PS3?

Hello. Just bought my third HTC phone and I am very happy with it. The 1080P video sounds especially appealing. I saw there was an HDMI adapter which I mentioned to the sales guy and he said that his girlfriend had one(of the phones) and their TV (which has wifi) automatically picked it up. If I am going to take good HD videos it would be great to send them over wifi to my PS3 (preferably) or my computer with a media server on it to watch them easily. I have heard of an app called awesome drop but everything I have seen is getting media ONTO the phone, not off. I know I could just USB to my computer (and maybe even ps3?) but since it can be on my wifi network it would seem there was some way to easily just push the video wirelessly to watch. I know this isn't specific to the Amaze so if you think I will get better answers I can move to a more general Android area. Thanks always XDA.
Also in the same vein is there some app to just directly move any files freely between the phone and my computer (and maybe even ps3?) over wifi? TY

I use iMediaShare Premium to stream videos stored on my device to my XBox 360. I can also stream Youtube and several other services as well. All connect via wifi.
There's a program called PS3 Media Server that is awesome. I haven't yet tried streaming amaze videos, but I will tonight. THis app is very light weight and streams really well. I have yet to have any problems, but I've only streamed some relatively low bandwidth 4:3 video over wireless.
I stream video to my Xbox 360 using an app called Twonky, It's in the Android Market, nice and easy. Let me know if it works for you.

Possibility to hijack alle sound from andriod?

The title might be misleading, but it's the best description I have for this. My goal is to make an app that streams audio from Android via Airplay to other units on the network. I know that similar appear exist, but they only stream media they can read. Making streaming from spotify or Google Music impossible as they play encrypted files.
I am assuming that my application would require root to work, and that there does not exist an easy-API from Android to do this. My question is this:
Will this application be device Specific? Does the code work on Android library's, or ie. Samsung Libs?
Sorry for this being noobishly written, but I hope you get my point. I'm no coder yet so my assumptions might be off, I am on the other hand very willing to learn
