OK so this is what happen
I install cm 10.1 with stock Google play 3x. I don't like the way android does updates of system apps and keep 2 copies of apps in system and data, so I go to play store apps settings, uninstall updates and use link2 SD to uninstall stock versions too.
Now I download Google play 4x apk and install as user apps, it give me no connection error
How do I fix this? Tried wipe and restart
I had this problem before when trying to install Google play as user apps so it van updates it self without shadow copy but haven't managed to make it work, have to fixed via restore to stock or reflash
Is there anyway I can make it run as user apps, or deal with this shadow copies? I can't integrate updates all the time

Hi,
I am currently on Galaxy S2, Gingerbread 2.3.3, and am planning to uninstall the System app Google Maps using Titanium Backup.
For now I will use a third party app (Sygic). However in the future I may want to install it later, but if possible I will choose to install it as a normal app instead of restoring the system app.
Questions -
1. If I remove Maps, will it affect any other part of the system that you would like to caution me about?
2. If I replace the system app with normal app, will I be able to upgrade to next version of android whenever it's rolled out for my phone?
You may just freeze it...
But as I know, there is no problem after removed it from system. I've my maps removed as system as well and installed with Burt Maps which Is non-system app.
PS, if you installed custom Rom, you won't get official update anymore.
Won't effect system upgrade.

When the first version come out i installed the apk (3.4.6) then it silently update to 3.4.7
But now it stopped at 3.4.7 while my old Galaxy S update itself to 3.5.16.
why?
Is there a way to force update without installing the apk?
I try to clear cache but it doesn't update after acceting terms and condition.
What phone is that?certain phones won't be updated to the newest version of Google Play automatically...

It is in my sign
Galaxy S2. -> won't update
Old galaxy S -> update properly
I read this in a german tech blog (but on my desire it doesn’t work):
-kill market/play out of ram.
-go to settings/apps
-choose market/play
-delete cache
-start market/play
-press home (to run market/play in the background)
-after a few seconds start market/play again
-now the market/play should upgrade
if that doesn’t work wait a minute and try again.
again: for me it doesn’t work. but there were many people saying it does work.
I also found
*#*#2432546#*#*
but don't work for me even if checkin appear
i know you are searching a way without installing the apk but here it is

That happens because of the play store restore function which restores all your older apps back to the new rom... Happened to me a couple of times... What you can do is switch off data connection and install all apps manually yourself
Those apps you haven't installed will be still sent when you switch on data, just go to respective app in play store and cancel each ongoing download
PS: Try changing the backup and restore function in settings

Also try disabling automatic update of apps.
Try clearding data/cache.
Since stock firmware has old collection of google apps, and updating means it doesn't over write the system apps, it justs creates another copy- would it be possible to wipe the collection of stock google apps, then flash over a new updated collection of google apps? I have
gapps-gb-20110828-signed, but with 2011 date that seems pretty old. Isn't there a 2012/2013 build?
Also my phone has LK1 firmware, would this be useful to you guys?

simply update the app you want to, and then integrate the update into rom with the help of link2sd or titanium backup

cheers will give updating system app a go. It's worked for play store, but for maps and youtube when I action, integate... it says system full. Even though I still have 70MB free.
I guess uninstall updates, delete maps & youtube manually in es file explorer and re-download again? It was only play store that is handy having it integrated, since that is an essential app to download other google apps.
got it working. rebooted, then let kies update firmware, rebooted again, then integrated maps and yotube
seems to work, however since doing linksd update system app, google service has stopped responding. No way of having a clean ROM with very latest google play store? The one I've seen has a older build, and other google apps. So it'll update it anyway.
one work around is moving play services and play store to user app. Delete any play services/play store in system. Now it won't create another copy, it'll use the user one. Of course if you do a reset it'll lose those files, but since it's easy to restore or recovery not a big deal (and saving 20 MB)
By mistake, with Titanium backup I deleted Google Play Download Manager & Google Play Services.
However, having re-installed the very latest Google Play Services, applications still do not download.
Aside from re-installing all Google apps, is there a way of only getting the Google Play Store properly working?
Thank you so much.

Didn't work, unfortunately...
I had to re-install Scrubbers 5.0 Lollipop rom!
Thankfully, all data was backed up so there is no loss of data.
However, I am surprised that the rom had to be re-installed from scratch simply because Google Services was removed...
Despite clearing cache, data, factory reset/restore did not solve the problem.
That said, it was my fault for removing Google Services.
I've just installed minimal Google apps over the rom, saves me manually removing the $hit/bloatware.
