[Q] Missing battery file, bricked? - AT&T LG Optimus G

My friend's phone gives him an error saying it's missing the battery file. Is it bricked? Should I be trying to return the phone back to stock via the unbricking methods?

I have no idea what was done to it, that's how he acquired it. He said he can get to the bootloader but can't move to any of the options using the volume buttons. I haven't even seen the phone yet since he lives a bit away. I was thinking since he can get to the bootloader flashing a new rom and kernel might fix him up. Any help much appreciated thank you

You could always try fastboot flashing, or just go into download mode and use LGNSPT.

Ok so here's an update; I have the device now and using Ubuntu. When I plug it in red light on power button comes on for a bit but eventually goes off, at first I though it was my cord but I ran lsusb but Qualcomm, Inc. Gobi Wireless Modem (QDL mode) shows up. Red light or no red light that's all it shows up as, and no adb or fastboot. Tried getting to bootloader with both combinations of Volume Up Down and Power buttons.

Pretty sure the only way to fix it is with JTAG.

You could ask in irc, but last I heard the files needed weren't available. Autoprime on irc would be someone to ask.

[Q] Can't get into the download mode in my TMOUS Vibrant

Hi tehre, i'm having problems to get the phone into the download mode, i'm hoding the vol down key along with the power button, but the only thing i get is the phone showing Samsug vibrant and restarting over and over again.
Am i doing something wrong? I just downloaded an app from the market called wuick boot, i tried selecting the bootlader option, but same thing, the phone just reboots, and i get back to the phone menu.
Any help will be more than apprecciated.
Thanks in advance!
Is your phone rooted? I had the same issue and resorted to just doing it by using a terminal command on my rooted phone.
If you have a terminal app, just do this:
Code:
>su
#reboot download

Just so happens I nearly bricked mine last night. Couldn't even get into recovery mode or see the charging icon when I plugged it in. Here's what I did (after much trial and error):
1. Removed SD and SIM card
2. Removed battery
3. plugged the phone into USB
4. held down vol-up and vol-down
5. popped the battery back in while holding vol buttons
...and that got be from looking like I was dead in the water to download mode and a stock ROM flash.

Work for New Vibrant?
Hey guys, I have a new Vibrant, Im guessing its the new batch of Vibrant because I can't use the volume up+down +power to go into recovery or download mode. I just wonder if this also works for my version of Vibrant because I did a lag fix and it bricked me... Therefore if this works, I would be so happy that I will cry. =( I'll try it anyways, but if anyone have a similar device to mine, please let me know I would love to get some info on it. =( I just needs it to be in Download Mode to flash it with ODIN back to stock. =)
By the way, would you mind telling me what stock rom you use? and software to flash it? Thanks a lot! I appreciate all of your help! Im really desperate to get my phone back to work... its been showing up vibrant screen make a start up sound and go blank... so scary...

Did you remove the sim? Is the phone plugged into a pc via the usb cord? From my experience, the vibrant will only go into download mode if it's plugged to a pc.
I think I also got the new batch of vibrant. Maybe we should get a list of release date and serial of the phone. Maybe we might be able to figure out which phone can or can not use the vol down + power. Mine is 8/13/2010 rs 170-0412

I will try that as soon as I get the phone back. My cousin has it now and he's trying to look for methods to help me fix it too. =( So i will go get the phone soon and try your methods of removing everything. I just wanted to ask you guys to see if you guys had that recovery mode function (volume up _ volume down +power) disabled by T-Mobile. Because if all of you guys have the new batch of Vibrant then most likely mine will have a chance too. =) But thanks for the reply and the tip I will definitely follow all of your instruction and update further about this case. Hopefully it would work with your methods for the new vibrant batch. No one here seem to post much threads about the new batch.

Yeah I definitely got the new batch since I cant use that recovery mode function like everyone else here does. I also got mine in August, 8/28/10. I dont have the box and phone to see the serial right now since it was taken to my cousin house to try and figure out a way to get it into download mode. =( But from the looks of it, anything from August is disabled... wonder hows the July one. My brother has a Vibrant from late July, which is July 23, 2010 and his recovery mode isn't disable at all. =(

I have another story. I bricked my Vibrant trying to go back to stock using Odin it hung on a step. The brick to where the (Cell Phone ! Computer) comes up. After 30 minutes of panic trying to get my phone to go into download mode. I opened Kies mini, unplugged my USB connector plugged it into a new USB slot then hooked up my Vibrant and re installed the drivers. It found it. But I still couldn't do anything. So then I closed Odin reopened it unplugged and then re plugged my Vibrant back in. It found it on a COM port so then I tried a restore from there and it let me do it. Wow! I am amazed at how hard it is to permanently brick this phone.

[Q] factory reset a 2.9.2 super clean froyo phone ... possibly bricked?

Hi,
I am not really savvy with Android and I think I may have possibly bricked my phone. My friend installed 2.9.2 super clean froyo on it for me. I wanted to erase all the data on my phone (giving the phone to my brother) and pressed factory reset.
At first when I tried turning the phone back on it was stuck at the samsung logo. Now it's stuck at a battery sign with a charging image. I tried holding down the volume rockers and rebooting but it doesn't work.
Is my phone dead? Any suggestions on how to undo all of this ...? Many thanks in advance.

Hey there,
I tried looking and going through your guide (and other guides on here) and one of the very first steps is to get into download mode. I've tried all the following:
Taking out battery, plugging in, holding the volume down
Holding the volume down, plugging in, putting in battery
etc...
You name it, I tried to access the download mode. Still nothing. It's stuck at the:
phone... /!\ ...computer sign and I can't get to the Android builder "Downloading" screen.
I was only trying to update the phone using the Samsung Kies to 2.3, everything was going fine until there was no progress bar and nothing was happening for 30 minutes.
ANY help would be appreciated, especially if someone knows a trick to getting into download mode because that's a key element
Thanks in advance

sounds like you bricked your device. I think there is a dl mode push thru heimdall, but I'm not familiar with it...also there is a jig out there that jumpers the usb port. I'm only familiar with
odin, so this is all the info I have...good luck.
I see stuff about Jigs and stuff but I have no idea on where to start. I see some one posted something about getting it from ebay?

Borked it - Flashed root66, now it won't power up

Verizon SGS3. This is my first Samsung, so I have no doubt that it was something I did - been running my OG Droid since it came out and I'm not very familiar with the Samsung setup.
I followed this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762204
The forum won't let me post my question there, due to my low post count, so I put it here...
I used Odin to flash the image in the PDA field. Right after that, without checking to see if the phone was working properly, I used ADB to put CWM on there. The phone was turned on (not in Odin mode) when I pushed the recovery. Now I can't get the phone to turn even turn on, much less get into Odin mode to reflash....(yes, I've pulled the battery).
My computer recognizes when I plug my phone in (it give the "you plugged something in" tone), but it doesn't register in Windows explorer.
Any ideas...?
Not sure if this will be any help but..
I was flashing the same rom as you and my computer randomly blue screened in the middle of it and my phone wouldn't boot. I tried just flashing it again with odin right over it, but same problem.
I had to do a factory reset, flash the Samsung stock rom (which unrooted), I think I did another factory reset, and finally re flashed the root 66 rom. I also booted up the phone and did the initial setup before pushing recovery over with adb, but I'm not sure if that makes a difference.
Good Luck!
I can't even get into Odin, though. Nothing happens when I try to power on....so no getting into Odin or Recovery....very frustrating.

Was your battery full/plenty of charge when you first flashed through ODIN? What happens when you try to turn it on? No luck with download mode? Are you getting any feedback whatsoever from holding the power button?
Which recovery did you download and flash? I ask because I did this same thing last night and had the same issue. I used the touch recovery (TWRP 2.2.0) from HERE but the direct download link is bad. It gets you the wrong recovery if you download it directly to push via ADB or terminal. You need this one HERE
I hope im wrong but it sounds like a brick. If you can get into download mode your fine.
Battery was 100% (charged it overnight).
Nothing happens when I try to power it on....no lights, no vibration, no noise. Screen doesn't come on, no backlight...nothing.
No feedback whatsoever.
That's interesting. I pulled the battery and plugged in my USB to computer (I'm at work and don't have a regular charger) and the red "charging" LED just came on, but still unresponsive to any button push.

Have you battery pulled already besides just now? If you pull the battery hold the power button after you pull for a few seconds, put it back in and then try to power on.
adb doesn't see the device, even though windows registers something as plugged in (tone thru speakers when plugged/unplugged)

Sorry, that's not entirely true. I followed those instructions but used the root66 image from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762204
The CWM file i used was from the [ROOT] [RECOVERY] SCH-i535 thread
After some searching, this same sort of brick seems to be happening when dudes are flashing roms coded for other carriers....but I've got an i535 and have only used i535 files....hmm.

Yes, both vol up and vol down. I've tried every iteration I can think of. I'm waiting to hear back from Josh @ MobileTechVideos to get me an address. I'll be driving out there to have him give it a crack at unbricking...
i am not sure about fixing it, but a good rule of thumb is verify your MD5 on your files always!
I downloaded the same root66 because it was a torrent verifed md5 before I even attempted flashing it.

+1. Always make sure to verify MD5's before flashing anything, especially in our case. Hopefully you can get that fixed, OP. That's really bizarre.
Possible Fix
Curious.... when you you type ./adb devices does it list any devices there? (Windows its just adb device)
I have seen this happen on Samsung Vibrants and it sounds like your device has forgotten what the hardware keys actually do. If adb works, you can reboot to download it it doesn't a resistor can be built with a Micro usb end to trick the device into download mode. Some were made for the Vibrants and should be able to find them on the forums over there. I believe Team Whiskey built them

[Q] Tablet Z half-bricked or bricked?

Hey all!
After successfully unlocking the bootloader, tried to flash rootedkernel thru adb but something went wrong
and the tablet became ly a paperweight with no lights screen or buttons working.
Let it idle for one night and then charged for a few hours.
Now when I pres power there are three led flashes.
Nothing else apparently happens. Can't get it to flash or fasittboot mode.
It is like this for the last 48 hours. I can only see three continuous red flashes.
When I put it on charge there is continuous red led light.
But now I want the battery to loose all power and to reflash. When connected to PC it is seen as generic USB devicee.
Any ideas? Would be greatful
Have you tried holding volume + and power button, you should see one white flash keep holding and you should see three more flashes. If that worked you may be able to get into flash mode.

so heres what i did, im not sure what i did when flashed the logo menu button kernel but it messed something up during the boot process and wouldnt let me use any button combo to fix it.
i let the battery drain, charged it up till i had a steady orange led light, held volume down + power and got into recovery and restored the backup i made before i flashed the kernel.
I'd still like to get the logo used as the menu button if anyone has been able to get this working on an AT&T htc one I'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction. thanks guys.

Logo2menu works fine. I'm unlocked s-off and rooted and I've used it on almost every Rom I've tried. It's enabled at the kernel level. Find a rom you like, then find a supported kernel then flash it and usually most kernels flash from aroma and let you pick from a list of features. Here's my last tip. Go to the regular HTC one forums not att HTC one. No one really hangs around here. It's the same phone...
