Any good Skype clients? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As title asks - is there any good Skype clients out there? The official one is preposterously bad and one of the few I can find that actually does Skype is IM+ but that one isn't too minimalistic either.
Is there any good ones that I don't know about?

Seems like its all there is. Doesn't Skype allow any other to use Skypekit or what

Looks like you dont need video-calls support, right? I used IMO in the past.
Its a very good app, simple, clean and works with many services, even steam

Ye, I've been around IMO. I didn't really like the UI last time I used it but judging from screenshots it seems ok now. Sadly it also seems like Skype is no longer supported?
Boy, I missed the days when MSN/WLM got used. It was so much more flawless than Skype is an non of this "only possible to use official client" BS.. Sigh

Is there any good skype client now?

heard about texting on iphone with camera running as the background

which is sooo cool, i mean im always texting while walking, and i dont get very far constantly looking up and down!
i thought this was the coolest idea ever
anyone heard of this for android?
or anyone smart enough to add it to handcent!?
all i know is that this phone should be able to handle it
Here's a walk and text app for android
Edit: There's also a free alternative in market called "typo and walk for android)
thanks!
il give the free one a try
No problem! Hope it works for you
yes it doess, but maybe il try the paid one..
after you type using the free one you click send, then you have to click what program to use to send the text... once you get in your program of choice, you no longer have the video background and you still have to go through and choose a contact and stuff...
so the free ones pretty pointless but thanks again

Yeah! But I'm so absent-minded that I can only focus on one task at the time. Not even a small possibility that I could be able to look at the camera view and text at the same time. *LOL*
when i tried it out, thats exactly what i noticed lmao, i was busy making sure i didnt make a mistake, and wasnt looking at the background aahah
Yeah! The idea of the app sounds really smart, but the app it self; A NO-GO!
Had to try it myself, just out of curiosity
hahaha yepp

[Req] Woot Checker for WinMo?

So its a Woot Off today and it hit me, it would be so nice to have something that could do a check and show me what the new Woot is without me having to get on the internet every 2 mins.
I did a search and found one for the Android phones, anyone know of one for the WinMo phones?
Thanks!
i agree that would be a wonderful app
Ever hear of Twitter?
Using any Twitter client or the Twitter tab in Sense is the best/easiest way to keep track of Wootoffs IMO.
Ya, I just found that this morning from a buddy, might still be nice to have an app to check the site like sellout and shirtwoot.
But yes, twitter works just fine.

Twitter/Facebook clients with custom columns?

Ok. So up until now I have been using TweetDeck (or rather TweakDeck -- it's improved counterpart) and I guess I can still use it for a bit but Twitter has announced that the Adobe Air, Android, and iOS versions will be discontinued and will be removed from their app stores by May. There isn't a chance that just keeping the apk around will suffice though because apparently the app relies on depreciated APIs as well. What I'm looking for is a Twitter/Facebook client that will support custom columns to be added. I had 3 on mine. One for a work feed with very little activity (they post very specific updates) and a couple of other people that I want to watch that would of gotten lost in the noise of my news feed otherwise. I'm not finding any clients other than TweetDeck/TweakDeck that provide this. Can anyone provide me with any suggestions?
Thanks.
Source (app being discontinued): http://tweetdeck.posterous.com/an-update-on-tweetdeck
P.S. - I'm willing to take a Twitter only client with the custom columns since I only used it on that end but it becomes a pain since I've already gotten into a trend of reposting some twitter items onto my facebook profile for visibility and having just one app makes it easier.
Plume is worth checking out
You could try Ubersocial for Twitter.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.twidroid&hl=en
It has the ability to cross post to facebook as well.
This is a very good app, and is my go-to app for the twittersphere.
Trying Plume and Scope right now, and I believe I've tried Ubersocial in the past
Any app that lets you have one unified timeline that displays both Twitter AND Facebook posts at the same time? Plume wants them to be separate columns, and Scope wants to add additional 'social content' from places like Reddit, The Verge, and ThinkGeek into my timeline
All horrible
I've tried the following:
HootSuite
Plume
Scope
and they are all terrible. They contain much too much crap, they all want me to register with THEIR service (I need more accounts like I need a hole in the head), but worst of all, they don't allow me a single-column view of both Facebook and Twitter. Arguably the best feature of TweetDeck/TweakDeck. Also, they all have ads, and they're all annoying.
I honestly don't know what to do. I've been searching for a client ever since the original announcement, but I haven't been able to find anything. At this point I'm considering just writing my own. I'm not going to say "how hard can it be?", but as a software developer by trade, it's not just idle speculation. I think the hardest would be getting the Twitter and Facebook APIs in line. No ads, no registration, no bull****.
Edited to add: Mind you I don't *want* to have to do this, so any suggestions would be preferable.
Yeah, Plume seems like the best alternative, and it lacks significant features. I can't see every column status all at once, can't customize individual column notifications, and can't add users to their own column. May have to add requests to their support page. But I'm just using TweakDeck until it stops functioning. Apparently Facebook has already stopped working, so I haven't even seen Facebook updates for awhile. Lol. Hate when there's not that one perfect solution.

I still see facebook updates in TweakDeck. Occasionally, on the desktop version (0.38.2), the facebook updates won't come in, but a restart or two (of the application) usually solves that.
Bump. Anyone find any good clients that allow custom columns? The next best thing I've found so far is Scope Beta.

So Tweetdeck stopped working for everyone, right? Want to make sure, cause I don't want to let go. Lol. Thought it was supposed to end in May, so at least I got a couple more months out of it. Will have to try Seesmic. Didn't stack up when I tried it a couple years ago. Hootsuite looks good, but still can't find one that adds a single user's timeline *and* per-column updates.

I'm looking for the exact same thing. I don't think it exists. But a promising app I tried was Scope Beta. It's not exactly TweetDeck but it's the best I could find.

I'm looking for this exact same thing too! After TweetDeck stopped working, I immediately Googled and found TweakDeck, which is basically the exact same thing. Worked great, until the past week or so. Guessing it's dead again, but this time I didn't have any luck finding a good copy.
So yeah, I'll try that Scope Beta out, is it on PC too perhaps?

Unfortunately there's no desktop version. But I think TweetDeck for desktop is still up. I think only the Android version is dead. I don't think the desktop version of TweetDeck allows for custom Facebook columns though.

Ah yes my bad, Desktop version still works, very nice. I was just using a very outdated version.
Haven't tried Scope yet on Android, all I want is the lists tbh, I don't use facebook colums or so. I just want a much better overview of all the people I follow, and I'm currently doing that with lists.

If you want just Twitter lists then Plume is your best bet. It's what I've been using. It works like a dream and allows you to have columns for your lists. It's also got a nice clean modern UI.

Wondering if anyone discovered anything new since the last post? Looking for custom columns for Facebook specifically that allows for custom updates.

Baffled by Hangouts

I am completely blown away with how terrible hangouts is. Other than aesthetics, the app is horrible.
1. No clean buddy list for GTalk friends. This one blows my mind. There is also not a separate list for phone contacts, which again, numbs my brain.
2. Much like the "most contacted" feature in gmail (I use the term "feature" sarcastically) you cannot change who is on your top list, nor do you have an option to hide it. You cant even erase who is listed there. This is absolutely garbage and needs to be removed.
FIXES:
1. Obviously, make a GTalk buddy list view.
2. Remove the "most contacted" area of hangouts. Stop being presumptuous and putting an ex-girlfriend on my most contacted list, who is no longer even in my phone or contacts list on Google...

What happened to voice call?
In google talk you could voice call someone without the video feature running concurrently. Do you always have to video chat with someone in order to communicate via audio? Am I missing something here. The voice only feature in Talk seemed to work a lot better especially with slow connections. How can I download the old Google Talk(last version) without have to do an OS reinstall on my phone and tablet? It really sucks that Google removed Talk from my devices under the guise of upgrading the program.
Beggers can't be choosers.

I know that current version is not upto the mark
but we can expect great additions later . After all its developed by those who developed Gtalk in the first place !
Also you can send your feedback , that will always help to improve your experience in the future

The current version sucks. Why take away something I'm already using that works and replace it with something that doesn't have the current features I'm enjoying? If you want to beta test their software go ahead.

Hahaha, this. So much this.
To be fair, it's not just Google that does this sort of thing, the Windows 8 People Hub is even worse. Interesting that communication applications that allegedly put the user first don't make allowances for a tragically common component of regular human interaction - the break-up.

[Q] Group Messaging

Does anyone know if it possible to enable Group Messaging on the default messaging app? I tried searching the forums and looking through all the settings, but can't seem to find anything. What I mean is having everything in One thread.
Just type several numbers/names and you're good to go. I don't know if the participants will end up in one "thread", or if they'll end up in their own though. I'm afraid you'll have to try it out yourself Please report back with the result, so we all know how it works.

"group messaging" as in one thread doesn't exist. They each come in on their own thread. Looking around a lot last night I did, however, find an app that I am using as a full alternative to the native messaging app. Unlike WhatsApp and all those others, this isn't a chat service or anything along those lines. It was built to switch from the default messenger. Has full group messaging and a bunch of features. Not to mention free. Would highly recommend. Or just put cyanogenmod!

Everything about it is perfect (except for the ugly icon), and as u say, addresses all the shortcomings of native SMS.
